Definitions
- the invention relates to a sub-caliber floor with a sabot and a sealing washer at the rear.
- Such a projectile is described in DE 35 25 854 A1.
- the sealing washer is used to cover joints between the split sabot.
- a guide band is arranged on the sabot. This is necessary in order to avoid gas slip through the trains when the projectile is fired from a drawn weapon barrel. It is disadvantageous that, in spite of the sealing washer, gas reaches the guide band lying in front of the sealing washer and can penetrate laterally through the split sabot.
- the guide band of DE 35 25 854 A1 is slipping on the sabot so that the swirl of the barrel of the gun barrel is not transmitted to the wing-stabilized arrow projectile. This structure is complex.
- the projectile of DE 35 25 854 A1 is not intended to be fired from a smooth weapon barrel.
- GB 1 335 076 describes a similar lower-caliber projectile with a sealing washer and a guide band.
- a wing-stabilized arrow projectile which is to be fired from a drawn weapon barrel.
- the swirl is not compensated here by means of a slipping guide band, but by a rotatable mounting of the Wing on the floor.
- the object of the invention is to propose a lower-caliber bullet of the type mentioned, which, with a simple construction, leads to a secure gas seal in a smooth and also in a drawn weapon barrel.
- the above object is achieved in a lower-caliber projectile of the type mentioned at the outset in that the sabot is without a guide band and that the sealing disk has on its outer edge a rearwardly projecting, laterally spreadable sealing lip which is caused by the gas pressure when it is fired into the trains of the weapon barrel or seals against its wall.
- the floor has no guide band. This simplifies the design and manufacture of the sabot. Since the sabot does not have to be designed so that a guide belt can be stored on it, it requires less space. This space can be used to increase the charge of the associated cartridge, so that an increase in performance is achieved.
- the sealing lip of the sealing disc leads to a secure sealing of the sabot in the gun barrel.
- the projectile can be used both with a drawn tube and with a smooth tube. Changes in the diameter of the weapon barrel, for example when it is worn, are also compensated for without the gas seal deteriorating. Since the sealing takes place at the rear of the sabot, it is avoided that gas enters laterally between segments of the sabot.
- the sealing washer sits loosely at the rear of the sabot.
- the seal is thus rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the projectile relative to the sabot.
- the swirl of the barrel of the gun barrel is then hardly on the sabot and thus that Sub-caliber floor transferred.
- a certain twist transmission can remain due to the friction between the sealing washer and the rear of the sabot due to the friction. This is not a bad thing.
- the sealing disk can be easily connected to the rear of the sabot in a rotationally fixed manner.
- FIG. 1 shows a sub-caliber floor before the launch.
- An arrow projectile (1) has stabilizing wings (2).
- the arrow projectile (1) is held in a sabot (3) divided in the longitudinal direction.
- a cartridge case (5) filled with propellant charge is flanged to the sabot (3).
- the stabilizing wings (2) are inside the cartridge case (5).
- the sealing disc (7) has on its outer edge (8) a circumferential, rearwardly projecting sealing lip (9). This can be expanded laterally. It rests on the inside of the cartridge case (5).
- the rear (6) and accordingly the sealing washer (7) are conical. This creates an annular pocket (10). This favors the radial spreading of the sealing lip (9) under the effect of the gas pressure of the propellant charge.
- Neither the sabot (3) nor the feed hood (4) are provided with a guide band. Otherwise this would be in the Area (11) of the sabot (3) arranged. This area (11) is shorter in the longitudinal direction than if it had to take up a guide band.
- the space normally occupied by the guide band in the cartridge chamber of the tube can be used by extending the sleeve edge (13). This results in a gain in space (12) in the cartridge case (5), which enables the propellant charge to be reinforced.
- the gas pressure acts on the sabot (3) via the sealing disc (7).
- the sealing lip (9) expands radially under the effect of the gas pressure so that it lies sealingly against the inner wall of the gun barrel. If the weapon barrel has trains, the sealing lip (9) nestles into it.
- the application of the sealing lip (9) to the weapon barrel can also be supported by the fact that it rests on the inside of the cartridge case (5) with a certain preload.
- the sealing lip (9) leads to a secure gas seal in the weapon barrel in such a way that gas slip does not occur in its features. Thus, propellant gas cannot enter between the parts of the sabot (3).
- the sealing disc (7) rotates in a drawn gun barrel at the rear (6) of the sabot (3), since it engages the trains with its sealing lip (9). Their swirl is transferred to the sabot (3) only to the extent of the friction between the sealing disk (7) and the rear (6).
- the feed hood (4), the sabot (3) and the sealing disc (7) are removed from the arrow projectile (1).

Abstract
