Definitions
- the most commonly used extinguishing system is the sprinkler system, which is screwed to the water pipe network and is the most common extinguishing system.
- the water outlet nozzle is closed by a glass barrel filled with a suitable liquid.
- the hot flue gases heat up the explosive; this expands and bursts the glass keg when a trigger temperature specified by the filling quantity is reached. This automatically releases the nozzle and sprays the source of the fire with an extinguishing jet that is torn into droplets.
- the thermal capacity of the explosive fluid but also its thermal conductivity and viscosity play an important role. So that the spread of the trigger temperature is within the narrowest possible tolerances of approx. 5%, the explosive liquid should also cause the steepest possible rise in pressure when heated, that is, it should have a high value that is decisive for the rise in pressure with temperature (dP / dT) Have ratio of thermal expansion coefficient to compressibility (> 10 bar / K).
- the response time can be influenced by the material properties on the one hand, and by design measures on the other.
- a reduction in response time results, for example, from a reduction in the wall thickness of the glass barrel, an increase in the thermal conductivity of the glass material and / or the explosive fluid, as well as a reduction in volume of the glass barrel.
- German published patent application DE 32 20 124 A1 published in December 1983, describes a reduction in the volume of filling liquid by means of an inserted displacer.
- alcohols are mainly used as explosives for glass barrel sprinklers, namely n-butanol, isopropanol and glycerin, less often paraffin oil or more recently ethyl acetate.
- the present invention shortens the response time by using special explosive liquids, in which the heat absorption takes place particularly quickly, as the inner filling of the sprinkler glass vials. It was found experimentally that the response time of the glass vials serving as trigger elements depends on the one hand on the product of the average thermal capacity of the explosive liquid with its density and the glass barrel volume (thermal capacity of the inner filling), but on the other hand also depends on the thermal conductivity of the explosive liquid and its viscosity. The coefficient of thermal expansion, toxicity and chemical resistance of a liquid over time also play a role in its use as an explosive.
- Table II below shows the volume-related heat capacities (i.e. the products of the heat capacity and the density), the viscosities, the thermal conductivities and the calculated values of the pressure rise with the temperature (which correspond to the ratio of thermal expansion coefficient to compressibility) of some explosive liquids specified.
- the volume-related heat capacity C ' has a value ⁇ 1.5 J / ml
- the viscosity has a value ⁇ 0.8 mPa ⁇ s
- the thermal conductivity has a value> 0.025 W / cm ⁇ K
- the Pressure increase with the temperature dP / dT has a value> 10 bar / K.
- worse values for one or more properties and better values for other properties can balance each other out to some extent.
- the invention now relates to a trigger element for a sprinkler, wherein the trigger element consisting of a glass barrel and filled with an explosive liquid keeps the water outlet nozzle of the sprinkler closed, which is characterized in that the explosive liquid is composed of lower alkyl homologues of benzene, medium aliphatic hydrocarbons and lower cycloaliphatic Hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons and their mixtures with one another or with other liquids miscible therewith are selected.
- the lower alkyl homologues of benzene, the middle aliphatic hydrocarbons, that is, for example, aliphatic hydrocarbons with 5 to 12 carbon atoms, the lower cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons, that is, for example, cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons with up to 8 carbon atoms, and the halogenated hydrocarbons can, as a rule, with one another and with other liquids with organic compounds known as explosive liquids, such as lower mono- or polyhydric aliphatic alcohols and lower alkyl esters of lower alkane carboxylic acids, in any ratio in which they are miscible with one another.
- the explosive liquid can consist of toluene, xylene, n-decane, cyclohexane, trichlorethylene, tetrachlorethylene or mixtures thereof.
- the explosives can be used for different nominal opening temperatures.
- n-decane is suitable for nominal opening temperatures up to 182 ° C.
- the explosive liquid can be used as a lower mono- or polyhydric aliphatic alcohol or lower alkyl ester of a lower alkane carboxylic acid or a mixture thereof, e.g. Contain methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, glycerin or ethyl acetate or mixtures thereof, but usually no special advantages can be achieved.
