Definitions
- the present invention relates to a propellant lighter according to the preamble of the main claim.
- the performance of a gun largely depends on the kinetic energy of the projectiles fired, especially if they are sub-caliber hard-core projectiles.
- the muzzle energy of the projectiles depends on the amount of propellant powder that drives the projectile. Without changing the dimensions of the cartridge case determined by the gun used, this measure inevitably leads to increased loading densities of the propellant charge powder and to an associated difficulty in igniting it.
- conventional propellant igniters can produce catastrophic pressure states because the amount of ignition gases entering the propellant charge from the partial charge igniter is only available with a substantially reduced empty volume. The pressurized ignition gases cannot relax quickly enough due to the lack of space and the increased throttling effect of the now more compactly packed propellant powder grains.
- the construction of a conventional type of propellant lighter in which the above-mentioned problems arise, and which essentially e.g. is known from DE-OS 32 26 269, is explained below with reference to Figure 1.
- the propellant charge lighter consists of an outer body 1 with the ignition piece 2 located therein and an ignition tube 3 inserted into the outer body 1 via casting compound 4.
- the column of ring tablets 6 held by a shrink tube 7 is attached in the ignition tube 3 and a spacer tube 5, rings 8 and 9 and a further spacer tube 10 and a screw plug 11 are fixed.
- the ignition tube 3 has bores 12 in the area of the tablet column.
- the pillar of ring tablets 6 is the element during the combustion of which the hot ignition gases are formed, which then enter the propellant charge (not shown) through the bores 12 of the ignition tube 3 and ignite it.
- the reinforcement set itself hinders this flow because the ring pillar column is fired from the inside. Only after some time have the tablets burned out and clear the way for the kindling gas. At this point, however, the internal pressure in the propellant charge lighter has already risen sharply, and the ignition gases are already under a damagingly high pressure when they pass through the bores 12 of the ignition tube 3.
- annular tablets consisting of an annular base body having a neck gertn on at least one of its end faces -T ge rer wall thickness wears, the outside diameter of which corresponds at most to the outer diameter of the base body.
- the lugs on the base body have a smaller wall thickness than the base body itself, the internal pressure inside the pillar of ring tablets only rises steeply until connections between the interior of the pillar are burned off by the lumps and open the holes in the ignition tube. From this point on, the pressure is reduced so that the tablets burn off at a slower rate and the propellant charge is ignited gently.
- the lugs are preferably formed on both end faces of the base body.
- the approaches have the same inner diameter, but a smaller outer diameter than the base body.
- the gases can continue to relax in the free annular spaces between the inner wall of the ignition tube and the outer walls of the tablet sets after the lugs have burnt through, as a result of which the pressure is reduced again and the ignition is made more even and gentle.
- the approaches have recesses which connect the bore of the ring tablet and the outer space.
- the ignition gases are not stored exclusively in the interior of the column right from the start, but are immediately conducted through the recesses and the holes into the propellant charge. For this reason, there is no significant increase in pressure inside the igniter. Furthermore, the burning rate of the tablets is reduced from the outset due to the lower internal pressure, so that the ignition process is very long-lasting. By avoiding the high internal pressure it can no longer happen that, as before, the tablets are smashed and unburned debris get through the holes in the ignition tube into the powder propellant charge, where they act in an uncontrolled manner.
- the width of the recesses is advantageously chosen to be less than the width of the remaining parts of the lugs. In this way it is ensured that even if the ring tablets are stacked without any particular orientation to one another, no "interlocking" of the ring tablets and the resulting uncontrollable change in cross-section of the recesses can occur.
- the total height of the ring tablets is advantageously selected in accordance with the distance between the bores in the longitudinal direction of the ignition tube, it being particularly advantageous if at least one bore is to be found in the ignition tube at the height of each attachment.
- the gap between the interior 21 and the exterior of the tablet burns open only gradually, so that pressure surges cannot occur.
- the lugs 20, 20 ' are provided with cutouts 23 which connect the interior 21 of the tablets 6 to the exterior.
- the approaches thus form the image of a crenellated wall crown, the cross section of the recesses 23 advantageously being essentially semicircular.
- the width b of the recesses is preferably chosen to be less than the width a of the remaining parts of the projections 20, 20 '. In this way it cannot happen that the remaining parts of the lugs snap into the recesses during stacking and at least partially close them in an uncontrolled manner.

Abstract
