Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a closed luminaire with fluorescent tubes, that is to say a lighting apparatus essentially comprising a shell fixed to a support and containing in particular tube supports, the accessories of these tubes and a reflector, as well as '' a diffuser closing the shell and diffusing the light produced by the tube or tubes.
  • Such luminaires are well known and often designated as watertight luminaires, because of the fact that precautions are taken, at the junction between the shell and the diffuser and at the other openings of the shell, to preserve the interior of the luminaire from dust. and even water runoff, which allows them to be used in fairly harsh environments (basements, cellars, covered parking lots, etc.).
  • These known luminaires if only because of the required tightness, generally comprise a hollow shell whose continuous edge is provided with a seal and an equally hollow diffuser whose continuous edge is applied against the shell seal, as well as locks attaching the diffuser to the shell.
  • the reflector carrying the tube supports and accessories is incorporated in the shell.
  • the subject of the invention is therefore a luminaire of a design better suited to the available manufacturing techniques, of lower cost, consequently, and offering advantages as regards storage and shipping.
  • this luminaire essentially comprises a half-shell body open at its two ends, a diffuser also in half-shell and open at its ends, adapted to complete said body, two pieces of ends arranged for closing the ends of an assembled body and diffuser, as well as sealing means arranged between, on the one hand, said diffuser and said end pieces.
  • the end pieces can be extensions of said body or are welded or glued to it or assembled by seals.
  • the body and / or the diffuser can be two sections of sections of great length, that is to say at low cost.
  • the end pieces will be relatively small molded pieces.
  • said body and / or said diffuser have an open profile. This makes it possible to store and transport dismantled luminaires, the most bulky parts of which are nested one inside the other.
  • said end pieces comprise a portion which is introduced between the body and the diffuser, the profile of which is adapted to that which these two pieces have between them and which carries a seal against which apply the body and the diffuser.
  • said end pieces carry the tube supports and optionally, a priming device.
  • the inductance (ballast) of the fluorescent tubes will be fixed to the bottom of said body.
  • the edges of said body and of said diffuser are formed so as to allow the stapling of an elastic profile surrounding these two edges and pressing them one against the other over their entire length, with interposition of a seal.
  • the configuration of this profile and of said edges is such that it allows the rotation of said diffuser carried by a clip left in place on one side of the luminaire, while the clip on the other side has been detached, and consequently l opening of the luminaire without the diffuser separating from the body.
  • FIG. 1 schematically represents the end of a luminaire produced according to the present invention. We can see the essential parts of this fixture: a body 1, a diffuser 2, an end piece 3, a clip 4.
  • the body 1 is a kind of elongated half-shell, open at its two ends. In one embodiment, it can be obtained by cutting a steel profile provided with an anti-corrosion coating, formed continuously from a steel sheet. This coating can be in "Aluzinc", produced among others by the manufacturer Bethlehem Steel, which offers the advantage of being reflective. The luminaire will thus not need to include a reflector, which therefore reduces its cost price.
  • the diffuser 2 is likewise a kind of half-shell open at its two ends, which can be obtained by cutting off an extruded profile in a transparent or translucent plastic material, such as a polycarbonate.
  • the two longitudinal parts of the luminaire, 1 and 2 are assembled using staples 4, one on each side.
  • Figure 2 illustrates the other end of the fixture of Figure 1, but with the diffuser in the open position, which allows you to see the inside.
  • an inductor 6 is partially visible. It is fixed to the bottom of the body 1, for example by waterproof rivets 7, in good thermal contact with the body 1 for better cooling.
  • the clip 4 which will be described later, is such that, when in place, it allows the pivoting of the diffuser and the opening of the luminaire. Unobstructed, it remains attached to the diffuser as can be seen in the lower part of Figure 2.
  • the end piece 3 comprises a flange 5 and a side wall 8, also visible in FIG. 1; it also includes an inner edge 9, on which is fixed, for example by gluing, a seal 10.
  • a transverse wall 11 also carries two sockets 12 and 13, for example conventional end supports of fluorescent tubes. One of them may be a combined socket comprising a priming device 14.
  • FIG. 3 represents a cross-sectional view of the luminaire in which, for simplicity, the content of the luminaire has not been represented (tubes, their supports, etc.).
  • the body 1 whose flared profile, from the elbow 15 to the elbow 16, is extended by two identical edges comprising a first part 17 carrying a longitudinal seal 18 and a second part 19 returned in the form of a hook.
  • the profile of this body 1 is relatively open, so that the storage or transport of luminaires will be facilitated by the fact that a large number of them can be fitted together in a small volume.
  • the internal border 9 of the end piece 3 comprises a part 20 conforming to the profile of the body 1 and carrying the seal 10, just like the part visible in FIG. 2. The body 1 is thus pressed against the seal which seals between the latter and the end piece 3, up to the level of the longitudinal joint 18.
  • the part 21 of the border 9 follows the shape of the profile of the diffuser 2 which, when stapled to the body 1 also comes to be pressed against the seal 10, so that effectively the internal border 9 of the end piece 3 is arranged with a complete seal inside the tubular structure formed by the body 1 and the diffuser 2.
  • the longitudinal connection between the edges of the body 1 and of the diffuser 2 comprises a seal 18 of each side of the luminaire, so that the interior of the luminaire is effectively protected from the outside environment.
  • the pieces of ex hoppers 3 also include a cable entry orifice (22) which will also be provided with sealing means.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates the method of assembling an end piece 3 to the body 1 and to the diffuser 2.
  • the end piece 3 in the form of a cup with a flat bottom, the wall lateral 8, extended at right angles by the inner border 9 and, outside of this, with a rounded connection, by the flange 5.
  • the border 9 which carries the seal 10. It is also possible to add that this border also comprises, coming from molding, lugs 23, 24 having a double role: retaining the seal 10 in position and preventing it from being crushed. To this end, these tabs, arranged in pairs all around the edge (see FIG. 3) have a height less than the thickness of the joint 10.
  • the flange 5 comprises, internally, snap tabs 25, elastic, provided for engage in openings in the vicinity of the end of the body 1. These openings will preferably be made during the cutting operation of the profile from which the body 1 is obtained.
  • the end piece 3 is therefore fixed to the body 1 which engages between the inner edge 9, over the seal 10, and the flange 5, under which it extends.
  • the diffuser 2 is shorter and stops before the flange 5. It is however long enough to rest firmly on the seal 10 of the two end pieces.
  • Figures 5 and 6 are two sectional views on an enlarged scale of a junction between the edges of the body 1 and the diffuser 2 by means of a clip 4.
  • the profile of the body 1 is extended by an edge which successively comprises an elbow 15, towards the outside, - a flat part 17, carrying a seal, another elbow 26, towards the inside, from which the edge is extended into a hook 19 whose end part 27 is folded towards outside.
  • the flat part 17 includes a gently sloping projection 35 from the elbow 17 and returning abruptly towards the part 17 a little before the elbow 15.
  • This planar part as we have seen, carries the longitudinal seal 18.
  • the projections 35 are used for hooking the clip 4.
  • the diffuser 2 ends with an edge 28 consisting of a wing 29, at right angles to the outside, extended by a curved portion 30.
  • the wing 29 bears technically against the seal 18.
  • the curved part receives the end of clip 4.
  • This clip 4 having the general shape of a C is a profile extruded, for example PVC, elastic but resistant. It includes a loop 31 which engages inside the curved part 30, a connecting branch 32, an upright 33 and a hook 34.
  • this clip is supported inside the curved part 30 and is hooked by its end 34 behind the projections 35, in the angle 15.
  • the elasticity of the material from which it is made and the dimensioning of the profile 4 is such that this profile exerts a force pressing one against the other the edges of the body 1 and of the diffuser 2 by uniformly pinching the joint 18. This keeps the luminaire closed and ensures the tightness .
  • the hook 19, inside the clip 4 bears against the latter by its end portion 27, while its main leg bears against the curved portion 30.
  • Figure 6 illustrates the same junction as Figure 5, but while the diffuser has been detached by unhooking the clip 4 on the opposite side (see Figure 2) and has tilted clockwise . We see that it remains carried by the clip 4 left in place.
  • the end pieces can be associated with the body 1 by welding or gluing, or be extensions of the body 1, which then dispenses with the need for a seal between these parts and the body.
