This results in a change in the relative position of the relevant touch flag 34 with respect to a transverse light barrier 38. This is interrupted. An error signal is triggered.

These conically tapering ends of the vibrating bars 46 ensure that the end areas of the cigarettes 13 are not mechanically stressed by the vibrating bars and consequently no fine tobacco parts are pressed out of the cigarettes.
- the design of the vibrating rods 41 in the above sense therefore has the consequence that tobacco leakage at the ends of the cigarettes is avoided as a result of the vibrating movements. If cigarettes are processed with a filter, it is sufficient if a cross-sectional taper is formed only at one end - at the end remote from the cigarette filter.
- the individual devices for ensuring a trouble-free flow of cigarettes within the chutes 12, that is to say the support rod 26, the feeler tabs 34 and the vibrating bars 41, can also be used independently of one another.
