Definitions
- the present invention relates to an antenna feed system with a four-gate network for separating four signal paths which are assigned to two polarizations and two frequency bands, the input waveguide in which signals of both frequency bands and both polarizations of the basic wave type can be propagated, is connected to an exciter horn of a microwave antenna and one having a branching arrangement provided with a plurality of branching arms for frequency and polarization separation.
- Microwave antennas are often used to send and receive signals from two frequency bands and polarizations. Feeding systems that allow such multiple use of the antenna are known under the name of four-wire network, system switch or quadruplexer.
- the prior art includes four-door networks which are designed for two linearly orthogonally polarized frequency bands (cf. e.g. DE - B-24 43 166) and those which are designed for two circularly orthogonally polarized frequency bands (cf. e.g. DE-A-29 32 626, DE-A-27 03 878).
- Such feed systems are used, for example, in ground station antennas for satellite radio in the 4/6 GHz range.
- methods and devices are required which allow the ground station antenna to be aligned or tracked to the assigned satellite.
- the known monopulse method is usually used for this, according to which antenna placement signals are derived from the radiation properties of one or more higher waveguide wave types.
- monopulse methods are described in detail in DE-C-21 35 611 and DE-C-22 12 996.
- DE-A-25 21 956 also describes an arrangement for decoupling a higher wave type serving as a direction-finding signal from a polarization switch.
- a coaxial line protrudes up to the branching point of a waveguide branch, which decouples the higher wave type excited there.
- a wave type switch known from DE-A-28 04 132 certain wave types are decoupled from a waveguide via coaxial lines arranged therein.
- the frequency band (4 GHz) of the downward signal is generally far below the frequency band (6 GHz) of the upward signal.
- the monopulse device of the ground station antenna requires the downward signal (reception signal) to obtain the storage signals.
- the problem generally arises that the higher wave types required for obtaining the storage signals can only exist in the throat of the exciter horn of the antenna.
- the higher wave types are reflected on the tapered throat of the exciter horn, which only lets the fundamental wave through.
- the higher shaft types can therefore only be coupled within the conical horn mouth.
- Devices for coupling the higher types of waves in a waveguide and in particular in a conical exciter horn are known as mode couplers z. B.
- US-A-3 815 136 states that higher wave types, which serve as antenna tracking signals, are decoupled from an antenna exciter by means of a conductor projecting into it, which is arranged coaxially in a waveguide connected to the antenna exciter.
- this conductor arranged in the waveguide is provided on the inside with coaxial lines, via which the coupled higher wave types are led out of the waveguide.
- the invention is based on the object of supplementing an antenna feed system with a four-port network of the type mentioned at the beginning by simple means which accomplish the derivation of at least one higher wave type required for monopulse tracking without the useful signal transmission properties of the four-port network being disturbed.
- the figure shows in longitudinal section a four-gate network 2 connected to a grooved exciter horn 1, as is known from DE-B-24 43 166.
- This four-port network 2 begins with an input waveguide 3 with a round or square cross-section, in which two double-polarized waveguide waves can be propagated in two frequency bands (4 GHz / 6 GHz).
- the input waveguide 3 is followed by a waveguide section 4 with a cross-sectional taper, which forms the transition to a waveguide 5, in which the waves of the lower frequency band (4 GHz) cannot propagate due to its cross-sectional dimensions.
- a polarization switch (not shown in the figure) is connected to the waveguide 5 and divides the upper frequency band (6 GHz) into its two orthogonal polarizations.
- the high-pass characteristics of the waveguide 5 effect at the end of the input waveguide 3 and in the front part of the transition hollow conductor Section 4, where the two frequency bands should branch, standing waves in the lower frequency band.
- These waves are coupled with four coupling elements arranged in a double symmetry. In the figure, only the coupling elements 6, 7 lying in a longitudinal section plane are shown. The other two coupling elements are arranged in the longitudinal sectional plane perpendicular to the plane of the drawing.
- Each of the four coupling elements is followed by a waveguide arm 8, 9, each of which has a filter 10, 11 in the form of z. B. a radial circuit lock is integrated. These filters 10, 11 serve to block signal portions of the upper frequency band which have been coupled by the coupling elements 6, 7 together with the signals of the lower frequency band.
- Two mutually opposite waveguide arms 8, 9 are brought together in a 180 ° hybrid 12 (magic T).
- the useful signal of the lower frequency band of one polarization direction is then present at the sum output 13 of the one hybrid 12 and the useful signal of the lower frequency band of the other polarization direction is present at the sum output of the second hybrid.
- the four-to-four network described above and on which DE-B-24 43 166 is based is designed for the separation of linearly polarized signals from two different frequency bands.
- the four-port network is also able to separate circularly polarized signals.
- the E ol wave excited in an excitation horn with a round cross section or the E 11 wave excited in an excitation horn with a rectangular cross section is usually used.
- the figure shows the means by which the Eo i or E ll wave, which cannot normally propagate through the throat of the excitation horn 1 and the subsequent waveguide sections 14, 15, 3 due to their cross-sectional dimensions, is coupled to the four-pole network 2.
- the coupling takes place with the aid of a conductor 16 which runs through the waveguide sections 14, 15, 3 between the excitation horn 1 and the branching for the frequency bands in the four-port network 2 centrally in the longitudinal direction.
- the waveguide section 14 represents a transition from the round to the square (or vice versa) waveguide cross section, and the waveguide section 15 is, for example, a polarization converter, as is known from DE-A-29 32 626.
- the conductor 16 extends so far into the exciter horn 1 (e.g. with a round cross section) that it completely couples the E, 1 wave present there in the case of an antenna deposit (in the grooved exciter horn, it is the E o p wave), and converts this wave type into a coaxial wave type (L or TEM wave).
- the conductor ends 16 In the vicinity of the coupling means 6, 7, where the branch of the frequency bands is carried out in the four-port network, the conductor ends 16 and generates an aperiodic E ll field that together with the useful signal of the lower frequency band to the behind the coupling means following waveguide arms 8, 9 is coupled.
- the higher shaft type is finally separated from the useful shaft in the 180 ° hybrid 12 which unites the waveguide arms 8, 9.
- the useful wave can be tapped at the sum output and the higher wave type at the differential output 17 of the hybrid 12.
- the four-door network has a total of two hybrids, on each of which two waveguide arms are brought together.
- Each hybrid therefore delivers a signal component of the higher wave type at its differential output.
- the two signal components can be combined in that the two differential outputs of the hybrids are connected together via a 3dB coupler and an upstream phase element.
- One of the two differential outputs can also be provided with a displaceable short circuit, as a result of which the impedance matching of the other differential output to the higher wave type can be optimized at a desired frequency.
- the attachment of the conductor 16 in the center of the waveguide sections 14, 15 and 3 can by dielectric supports, for. B. diagonally braced threads. To ensure that the disturbance of the useful wave remains negligibly small, it must be ensured that the supports have only a little dielectric material.
- the conductor can be attached to the diagonally extending dielectric plate.
- the higher wave type passes through the filters 10, 11 arranged behind the coupling means 6, 7 and is thereby kept free of signal parts of the higher frequency band.
