Definitions

  • the invention relates to a multi-pole contact strip of the type described in the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such contact strips are available in different standardized designs and sizes. They serve, for example, as contact strips for plug-in printed circuit boards or the like.
  • the contact tongues which are bent around the front edge of the carrier, ensure a secure insertion of the contact strip into a mating connector receiving it and extensive contact with the mating contacts.
  • the protruding ends of the contact tongues over the rear of the carrier serve, for. B. as soldering lugs for connection to a circuit arrangement.
  • a contact strip of the generic type is already known, in which the approximately U-shaped bent contact tongues are pushed onto the carrier when the contact strip is assembled (GB-A-1413737).
  • the upper and lower legs each engage in holding devices which secure the contact tongues against lateral displacement or against lifting off the carrier.
  • the special design of the U-shaped contact tongues, which have to be pushed onto the support for assembly, does not allow them to be more rationally assembled in a manner already known for straight, elongated contact tongues by connecting webs which are cut through after assembly to connect a component.
  • the possibility is to be created to slide a unit consisting of a plurality of contact tongues connected by webs as a whole onto the carrier in one operation.
  • the contact tongues are connected in comb-like manner in their part projecting beyond the rear edge of the carrier via severable connecting webs, so that they can be pushed onto the carrier as a component in a single operation.
  • the holding devices are designed as ribs arranged in the spaces remaining between two contact tongues with holding lugs protruding laterally therefrom, under which tabs which protrude laterally on the contact tongues engage during sliding assembly.
  • the ribs are provided with ramps that rise in a ramp-like manner in the push-on direction, which cause the connecting webs to be lifted over these ribs during the sliding assembly, as is explained in more detail in the description.
  • the connecting webs slide over the rear edge of the carrier into a position in which they can be severed by punching; at the same time, the flags of the contact tongues come under the assigned retaining lugs.
  • the limbs of the contact tongues projecting beyond the rear edge of the carrier are bent approximately in a step-like manner around the rear edge of the carrier. In this way, the contact tongues are secured against displacement against the push-on direction when the contact strip is uncoupled from the mating contact.
  • the distance between the connecting webs and the laterally projecting tabs corresponds at least to the length of the retaining lugs in the push-on direction. It is thereby achieved that the flags only reach under the assigned holding lugs when the connecting webs are located behind the ribs in the push-on direction in order to avoid excessive bending of the contact tongues when the connecting webs are guided over the ribs.
  • Fig. 1 shows a plurality of contact tongues 4 connected by webs 2, which are punched out of a metal strip. For reasons of low-cutting punching, there is the possibility of punching out two interlocking contact tongue strips from a metal strip at the same time.
  • the first end 6 is bent downward in an approximately hook shape. Lateral flags 8 are formed on the contact tongues, the function of which will be described later.
  • the second ends 10 provided as soldering lugs have a smaller width than the contact tongues 4.
  • Fig. 3 shows a carrier 12 in a top view of the top.
  • the shaped pieces 14 arranged on the side of the supports 12 serve for precise positioning and mounting of the supports in the devices in which they are to be used. They also serve to hold the carrier in the devices in which the contact tongues are mounted.
  • the contact tongues are pushed onto the carrier 12 such that the downwardly bent first ends 6 lie on the underside of the carrier. They engage in pockets 16 formed on the underside of the carrier and are fixed by them.
  • the lugs 8 each grip under the projections 22 assigned to them, so that the contact tongues are fixed against lifting and laterally.
  • the contact tongues When the contact tongues are pushed onto the carrier 12, the webs 2 must slide over the receptacles 18, as FIG. 3 clearly shows.
  • the receptacles 18 are each preceded by approaches 24 which rise in a ramp-like manner and which raise the webs 2 against the resilient force of the contact tongues. If the contact tongues are pushed onto the carrier 12 to such an extent that the webs 2 lie behind the rear edge 26 of the carrier 12, the contact tongues 4 can snap resiliently downward, since the flags 8 are still in front of the projections 22, as seen in the push-on direction. Only when the contact tongues are pushed further onto the carrier 12 do the flags 8 engage under the projections 22, as has already been described.
  • the ends of the contact tongues projecting beyond the rear edge 26 are cranked downward in the region 28 approximately in a step-like manner, so that they are also positively secured against being pushed off the carrier 12, as shown in particular in FIG. 4.
  • the ends 10 are bent down at approximately right angles as soldering lugs.
  • Fig. 5 shows schematically the structure of a device for producing contact strips.
  • a punching device 30 contact strips are punched out of metal strips, preferably of tin-bronze.
  • the first ends 6 are bent downwards in a bending device 32.
  • the contact strip strips prepared in this way can then run into a galvanic station 34 for gold plating, or possibly directly into a winding device 36, where they are wound up in the manner described.
  • the contact strip tapes are unwound from the winding device and cut to length in a separating device 38.
  • the contact tongues meet the carriers, which are fed from a station 42.
  • the contact tongues After the contact tongues have been pushed onto the carrier in the station 40, the contact tongues are bent in a bending station 44 and the webs are punched out in a further punching and bending station 46, and the soldering lugs are bent. As can be seen in FIG. 5, the last two stations can be combined to form a common station.
