Definitions
- the present invention relates to a torque wrench, in particular for loosening and tightening wheel nuts of a motor vehicle, consisting of a bending rod with a rotating jacket indicator rod attached to it on one side.
- This so-called on-board tool usually contains a polygon tool, which is used on the one hand to operate the jack and on the other hand to loosen the wheel nuts.
- Wrenches for wheel nuts are available on the market, which in particular make it easier to loosen the wheel nuts. It is the so-called cross wrenches, which consist of two cross wrenches that are interconnected. Angled screw connections are also known for this purpose. Both keys are more handy than the usual on-board tools and allow better power transmission. Various torque wrenches are also commercially available, but they are neither useful nor appropriate for the intended use.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an inexpensive torque wrench, especially for wheel nuts, which is accurate defined tightening of the wheel nuts with a torque specified by the factory.
- the torque indicator rod interacts with an acoustic signal transmitter arranged on the bending rod, which emits an acoustic signal when a predetermined torque is reached.
- the particular advantage of this embodiment of the torque wrench according to the invention is that it allows screw nuts of any design to be tightened in a simple manner without special force or torque measuring devices, not only by hand, but also with a predetermined, identical torque.
- the torque wrench according to the invention is composed of two modified tools known per se.
- the bending rod 1 corresponding to the conventional torque wrench and of rectangular cross section is shown in FIG. 1.
- a torque indicator rod 3 is firmly connected to the bending rod 1.
- An acoustic signal transmitter 5 is attached to the opposite end 4 of the bending rod 1.
- a handle 6 is pulled.
- the torque indicator rod 3 advantageously consists of a relatively thin flat iron, the width of which corresponds approximately to the width of the bending rod 1.
- the free end of the torque indicator rod 3 ends in a specially shaped tip 7.
- the acoustic signal generator 5 also advantageously consists of a resilient plate 8, the width of which corresponds approximately to the width of the bending rod 1.
- the leaf spring 8 ends in a tip 9, the special shape and effect of which will be explained in more detail later with reference to FIG. 3.
- the bending rod 1 as shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, is pushed in the operating state onto a pipe socket wrench 10 running perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and connected to it in a form-fitting manner.
- the ends 11 of the tubular socket wrench 10 are designed as socket wrenches for two different sizes of wheel nuts.
- an opening 12 is arranged on the socket wrench 10, which suitably corresponds in size and shape to the cross section of the bending rod 1 with the torque indicator rod 3.
- the openings 12 penetrate the socket wrench 10 diametrically.
- the bending rod 1 is inserted through one of the openings 12 in the tubular socket wrench 10.
- the shape of the openings 12 allows only two possibilities for introducing the bending rod 1.
- the torque indicator rod 3 is on the visible side of the user.
- the lever length of the bending rod 1 must always be the same. In the simplest version, this can be done very advantageously by means of an optical marking 9.
- the positioning of the bending rod 1 can optionally also advantageously be carried out by means of mechanical locking members.
- simple cams can be used as stops.
- the tubular socket wrench 10 is to be designed in such a way that it can be pushed onto the bending rod 1 approximately up to the middle. In this case, one of the many known variants of a releasable spring lock is best used as the locking member.
- both variants come into question here, namely with a locking member on the bending rod 1 or on the tubular socket wrench 10.
- a tubular key which is provided with a resilient locking device which snaps into corresponding recesses in the bending rod.
- the bending rod 1 is elastically deformed over its entire length.
- the unloaded torque indicator rod 3, however, remains straight or in its rest position.
- the bending rod 1 is deformed so much that the tip 7 of the rod 3 touches the tip 8 of the acoustic signal generator 5.
- the tips 7 and 8 are advantageously only bent obliquely or, as shown in FIG. 3a, are diamond-shaped in cross section. With a diamond-shaped design, the two surfaces 31 of the tips lie parallel to the surface of the bending rod 1, on which the torque indicator rod 3 and the acoustic signal generator 5 are mounted.
- the other side surfaces 32 run obliquely to that surface, but parallel to one another. If the bending rod 1 is deformed further, the tip 7 of the torque indicator rod 3 slides under the tip 8 of the signal generator 5 and lifts it up against a spring force. If the force acting on the bending rod 1 is increased further, the latter is deformed even more, the tip 8 slides over the upper plane 31 of the tip 7 and springs down onto the bending rod 1. An audible, clicking sound is generated. This sound signals that the desired torque has been reached. The application of force is stopped and the bending rod 1 returns to its starting position. The tip 8 of the signal generator 5 is pushed under the tip of the torque indicator rod 3, and the two tips 7 and 8 are again in their original relative position to one another.
- the bending rod 13 is curved at one end with a handle 14 and at the other, opposite end and is provided with a plug-on device 15 for receiving a wrench 16, the so-called nut.
- This push-on device 15 arranged on the bending rod 13 advantageously enables the wrench 16 in use to be easily replaced by a larger or smaller one, as a result of which the area of application of the bending rod 13 according to the invention can be considerably expanded.
- 6, is in the loaded state, that is, the tip 17 of the torque indicator bar 18 and the tip 19 of the acoustic signal generator 20 touch.
- the bending rod 13 is subjected to a further load in the direction of the arrow 21, the bending rod 13 is deformed even further and an acoustic signal is triggered by the signal generator 20 in the manner described above. In the position shown in FIG. 7, the bending rod 13 is again in the unloaded state and the tips 17 and 19 of the signal transmitter do not touch.
- the acoustic signal generator 20 can also very advantageously consist of a bolt-shaped extension 23 arranged on the torque indicator rod 22, which is operatively connected to a leaf spring 25 which is attached to the bending rod 24 and is slightly bent outwards stands.
- the bending rod 24 In the position shown in FIG. 9, the bending rod 24 is in the unloaded state. With a corresponding load on the bending rod 24, namely when tightening a screw benmutter, the bending rod 24 is moved in the direction of arrow 26 (FIG. 10) or deformed by bending and the bolt-shaped extension 23 is moved over the leaf spring 25 into the position shown in FIG. 11, the leaf spring 25 being set in vibration, emits an acoustic signal.
- the acoustic signal transmitter 20 can also very advantageously be designed as a spring leaf 28 that is pretensioned with a flat curvature 36 to form a membrane 43, one end 45 clamped in the handle 33 of the bending rod 13 and its free end 44 with a cam 29 arranged on the torque indicator rod 22 cooperates.
- the curvature 36 designed as a membrane 43 jumps over in the surface of the spring leaf 28 with a spontaneous reduction in tension and thereby produces a sharp bang, similar to a whip or shot bang.
- the spring leaf 28 assumes the original position and shape again with increasing bending relief, whereby it also springs back into the neutral position with a bang.
- Such spring membranes used to generate a bang are also known to be used in children's toys under the name "bang-frog”.
- the advantage of an application to the signal generator 20 of the present invention resides in the fact that the popping noise generated in the manner described is unmistakably loud and that the trigger point for the spring 28 skipping is extremely precisely adjustable.
- the end 47 of the handle 33 receiving the bending rod is formed into a housing 30 surrounding the signal transmitter 20, 28, 29 and the free end 46 of the torque indicator rod 22, a guide 42 being provided in the interior of the housing 30 is arranged for clamping the spring leaf 28.
- the housing 30 is also designed as a resonance body with a semicircularly curved wall part 38 for directional sound reflection. Opposite this wall part 38 there is a sound emission opening 40, which is advantageously closed with a closure piece 37 through which a large number of small sound emission openings 41 pass.
- a flange 35 is arranged between the handle 34 of the handle 33 and the housing part 30 of the handle 33.
- a very advantageous and inexpensive manufacture of the signal transmitter 20 shown in FIGS. 12 to 14 is achieved in that on the one hand the spring leaf 28 is clamped into a guide 42 formed in the plastic material of the housing 30 and is fastened therein in an uncomplicated manner and on the other hand the cam 29 is a a guide 29 'with a tight fit on the free end 46 of the torque indicator rod is a molded plastic body which has a finger-shaped extension 48 for acting on the spring leaf 28 of the signal transmitter 20.
- the torque wrench designed according to the invention is therefore not only distinguished by its convincingly simple and uncomplicated design and inexpensive to produce, it also enables due to its clear and foolproof handling the correct tightening of nuts of any shape and size with a precisely specified torque, for everyone.
- the device is therefore ideally suited as an on-board tool for motor vehicles.
