Definitions
- washed textiles especially those made from cellulose fibers, have an unpleasant hardening after drying. This occurs particularly when the laundry is done in the washing machine.
- Such undesirable hardening of the handle can be eliminated by treating the textiles after washing in a rinsing bath with cationic substances which contain at least two long-chain aliphatic residues in the molecule.
- the water-dispersible dialkyldimethylammonium salts or imidazoline derivatives of the formulas I ⁇ III are used in particular for this purpose:
- R alkyl or alkenyl with 8-22, preferably 10-18, carbon atoms
- R 3 is methyl or hydrogen
- x is a number from 1-5
- A is an anion such as Cl (-) , Br-I, CH 3 OSO 3 (-) or CH 3 OPO 3 (-) .
- the products of these formulas I ⁇ III have a liquid or solid consistency. If R is a saturated residue, the product is solid at room temperature. The transport then takes place in heated tankers or rail tank cars. It is delivered in barrels for overseas transport. The manufacturers of fabric softeners then have the products transferred to heated tank systems. If the raw material is processed, the warmed-up product is dispersed in hot water. If barrel goods are processed, the products must first be liquefied in a barrel heating system and can then be further processed.
- the alkyl radicals of the compounds I ⁇ III consist of unsaturated units
- these derivatives are liquid at room temperature. They can be processed into dispersions with cold water. Liquid fabric softener raw materials, however, have a reduced softening effect compared to the saturated derivatives. In order to achieve comparable grip properties, much more cationic substance has to be offered to the tissue in the case of unsaturated compounds.
- the softening effect corresponds to 1 kg of the compound types Formula to III with saturated radical R, approximately 1.33 kg of the compound types of Formula 1 to 111 with unsaturated radical R ,.
- the quaternary ammonium compounds are mixed with a liquid fatty amine oxyethylate and combined with a paraffin, a fatty alcohol, a fatty acid, a fatty acid ester, a polyglycol or a polyglycol ester or mixtures thereof.
- the premixes according to the invention can also contain further substances and auxiliaries.
- auxiliaries such as cationic or nonionic surface-active substances, solubilizers such as e.g. p-cumene sulfonate, electrolytes, acidifying agents such as e.g. Phosphoric acid, acetic acid, organic complexing agents, optical brighteners as well as colors and fragrances. They serve to additionally influence the handle of the goods or other properties of the textiles to be treated or to adjust the viscosity, to regulate the pH or to increase the stability at low temperatures.
- this premix can be diluted with water without further ado. With correspondingly less water, it is also possible to produce so-called 3-fold, 4-fold, 6-fold or 8-fold concentrate.
- These fabric softeners are used as usual by adding them to the last rinsing bath after the textile wash and then drying the textile material.
- laundry softener premixes according to the invention are described. Percentages are percentages by weight in all cases. In all cases, these premixes are prepared by simply stirring the liquid individual components in the cold.
- Example 2 25 g of the premix from Example 2 are mixed with 0.9 g of perfume and 1 g of a nonionic emulsifier of the isotridecyl alcohol type with 10 EO. 5 ml of a 10% CaCl 2 solution in 61.4 ml of cold water are added. This solution is stirred into the premix. A stable emulsion is obtained. The viscosity is approx. 150 mPas.

Description
Imidazolinderivate der Formeln I―III verwendet:
