Definitions
- the invention relates to a multi-purpose device with interchangeable tools, in particular for ice and mountain sports, with a handle and a head attached to it and carrying two tools.
- a multi-purpose device of the type mentioned is described for example in US-A-42 87 623. It is for a wide variety of applications, particularly in rescue operations, and shows a tool head with two tools, one of which, an ax, is an integral part of the tool head, while the second can be selected from an abundance of Wex tools and used on the tool head.
- the invention has now set itself the task of eliminating the disadvantages and creating a multi-purpose device, especially for mountain and ice sports, on which as large a number of different pairs of tools can be provided.
- the tool head has a central part with a sleeve, into each of which a tool is inserted from both sides, and in that both tools have projecting connecting sections into the sleeve, which engage directly with one another, preferably being screwed together.
- the design of the military-grade device according to the invention enables the mountaineer to take tools according to the probable terrain conditions and to exchange each one for another if necessary, so that several different tool combinations are possible. This reduces the total weight to a minimum.
- each tool is supported on the sleeve, but is only indirectly attached to it.
- the connecting section of at least one tool has a conical outer surface and the associated receiving region of the sleeve has a conical inner surface.
- At least one anti-rotation device is formed between the tools connected to one another and the sleeve.
- Such a rotation lock can, for example, have two coaxial locking rings which hold one another in a rotationally fixed manner by interlocking corrugations and which are arranged on the connecting section of one of the tools and at least one of which is designed to be axially resilient, one of the locking rings being torsion-proof on the sleeve and the other on the tool is held.
- the preferred screwing of the two tools requires furthermore also a special training of certain tools, for example the pick shovel, the cutting edge of which is to take up a certain position relative to the tool handle. Since, due to the screw connection, the required position cannot always be reached, it is further provided according to the invention that the pick ax is formed by a piece of pipe with a perforated wall that widens conically towards the free end.
- Fig. 1 shows the head of the multi-purpose tool according to the invention in longitudinal section
- Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section through the central part of the tool pin
- Fig. 3 and 4 a locking washer in plan view and in section
- Figs. 5 to 8 show different interchangeable tools.
- a multi-purpose tool according to the invention - an ice ax - has a handle 1 and a tool head 2 according to FIG. 1, which are connected to one another in a conventional manner.
- the tool head 2 is composed of the middle part 3 with the handle attachment and two tools 14, 15, which are interchangeable with other tools.
- the central part 3 as can be seen more clearly from FIG. 2, has a sleeve 4 with a conical inner surface 8, which on the tapered side merges into an annular extension 5 into which four bores 6 open radially, at the other end of the sleeve 4 are at least two, possibly also a plurality of grooves 7 embedded in the wall at the end.
- the tools 14, 15 which are inserted into the sleeve 4 are connected directly to one another in the interior of the sleeve 4.
- the tool 14 has, as the connecting section 11, an insertion pin whose conical outer surface 25 is connected to the conical inner surface 8 the sleeve 4 is adapted.
- the taper of the surfaces 8, 25 is selected so that they can be easily detached from one another even after heavy loading of the tool 14.
- the conical insertion pin is provided with a threaded bore 12.
- two lugs 16 are formed on the tool 14, which engage in the grooves 7 of the sleeve 4 and thus hold the tool 14 in the sleeve 4 in a torsion-proof manner.
- a conventional hole 17 in the tool 14 can also serve to facilitate the release of the tool.
- 7 and 8 show two examples of interchangeable tools, namely special designs of pimples, which differ in the angle and the toothing. 8 has a special design of the tip, which is designed as a groove 24, the two side cheeks of which bear the toothing. This pick ax is particularly suitable for water-bearing ice, since a drain channel is created by the fillet 24.
- the tools 15, which are inserted into the second side of the sleeve 4, have a threaded pin as the connecting section 13, which can be screwed into the threaded bore 12 of the connecting section 11 of the other tool 14.
- 5 and 6 show examples of such tools 15, namely a hammer 20 and a pick shovel 21.
- the tools 15 also have a hole 18 which, among other things, serves to loosen or tighten the tool.
- the pimple blade 21 according to FIG. 6 is formed by a piece of pipe which widens towards the free ends and ends in a circumferential cutting edge 26. As a result, the pick ax 21 can be used regardless of its rotational position.
- the sleeve 4 has an annular extension 5 into which radial bores 6 open.
- the extension 5 serves to receive a rubber ring 9 or the like.
- the retaining rings 10 are radially corrugated and have bent tabs 19, the ends of which, after insertion, expand tion 5 are bent back into the holes 6 (see dashed line in Fig. 4).
- An annular groove 27, corresponding to the extension 5, with radial bores 28 is also provided on the assembly side of each tool 15, into which a rubber ring 9 or the like and the second locking ring 10 are also inserted and secured against rotation by bending the tabs 19.
- the locking rings 10 projecting with their wave crests over the end faces of the sleeve 4 and the tool 15 come into contact with one another.
- the further rotation of the tool 15 allows a wave crest of a circlip 10 to engage continuously in the trough of the other circlip 10, the rubber rings 9 each serving as axially acting spring elements which allow the circlips 10 to slightly deviate.
- the tools 15 connected in this manner in a rotationally secure manner to the sleeve 4 cannot loosen themselves automatically during use, but can only be unscrewed deliberately, for which purpose each tool 14, 15 is suitable.
- the tools 15 have holes 18 that are at least large enough that the connecting section 13 of the tool to be exchanged can be used for loosening.
- the tip sections of the pick ax 22, 23 are also suitable for this purpose.
- the multifunction device provides in particular for the climber the advantage of a greater number of specialized tools for the different application areas and operating conditions to have available, and apply them in the best possible combination to be able, without the disadvantages of a significant increase in weight of Ge ieres p and the larger space requirement to have to put up with.

Abstract
