Definitions

  • the invention relates to the use of nonionic surfactants, which have been obtained by ethoxylation of higher alcohols and subsequent butoxylation, in low-foaming dishwashing detergents, which are used above all in industrial cleaning processes.
  • nonionic surfactants for this purpose are the compounds commonly referred to as ethylene oxide-propylene oxide block polymers as described in U.S. Patent 2,674,619.
  • surfactants are characterized by good low foam and good dispersibility. However, they have a very low network capacity and the biodegradability, as prescribed in the legislation of the Federal Republic of Germany and in other countries, is well below 80%.
  • DE-A-18 14 439 discloses low-foaming, nonionic surfactants which have been obtained by reacting a maximum of 1.5 mol of butylene oxide with a higher alkanol ethoxylate which contains 4 to 10 mol ethylene oxide per higher alkanol.
  • DE-A-17 67 173 discloses nonionic surfactants which are obtained by reacting a C 8 -C 20 alcohol with 2 to 7 moles of ethylene oxide and then reacting to 1 to 6 moles of butylene oxide. According to this literature reference, however, these surfactants can only be used if they are imperatively used in a mixture with an ethoxylated diol, and only then does this system have the required foam properties.
  • the task was to develop non-ionic surfactants specifically for technical cleaning processes that are low-foaming on the one hand and biodegradable on the other hand in accordance with legal regulations.
  • fatty alcohols or fatty alcohol mixtures with 8 to 20 carbon atoms are, by definition, fatty alcohols or fatty alcohol mixtures with 8 to 20 carbon atoms. They can be branched or straight-chained; preferred are those which are as straight-chain as possible or only branched to a small extent. These are alcohols such as. B. octanol, nonanol, decanol, dodecanol, tetradecanol, hexadecanol and oxadecanol (stearyl alcohol) and mixtures thereof. Those which have been obtained by Ziegler or oxo synthesis are technically particularly preferred. These are mixtures that contain 9/11, 13/15 or 16/18 (oxosynthesis) carbon atoms. The alcohol mixtures obtained after the Ziegler synthesis and containing 8/10, 10/12, 12/16 or 16/20 alkyl groups are just as cheap.

Description

    Figure imgb0001
    • (+)BO = Butylenoxid
    • EO = Ethylenoxid
