- HINTERGRUND DER ERFINDUNG
- 1. Bereich der Erfindung
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft allgemein Mikroprozessoren und spezieller Verfahren und Systeme für Mikroprozessoren zum Bereitstellen von Daten von Speichersystemen.
- 2. Beschreibung der verwandten Technik
- Ein typischer Server-Computer wie z.B. ein Webserver hat einen Hauptspeicher. Ein Server sendet Daten vom Speicher zu einem Client-Computer, der die Daten angefordert hat.
1 zeigt einen typischen Webserver102 und Client-Computer110 , die über ein Netzwerk104 wie z.B. das Internet oder ein anderes Netzwerk miteinander verbunden sind.2 ist ein allgemeines Blockdiagramm eines typischen Webservers102 . Wie gezeigt, beinhaltet der Webserver102 einen Prozessor202 , ein Speichersystem203 , das einen ROM204 , einen Hauptspeicher-DRAM206 und ein Massenspeichergerät210 beinhaltet, die jeweils durch ein peripheres Bussystem208 angeschlossen sind. Das periphere Bussystem208 kann einen oder mehrere Busse beinhalten, die über verschiedene Brücken, Steuerungen und/oder Adapter miteinander verbunden sind, wie sie in der Technik gut bekannt sind. So kann beispielsweise das periphere Bussystem208 ein „Bussystem" beinhalten, das durch einen Adapter mit einem oder mehreren Erweiterungsbussen verbunden ist, wie z.B. einem PCI-(Peripheral Component Interconnect)-Bus. Mit dem peripheren Bussystem208 sind auch eine Netzwerkschnittstelle210 , eine Anzahl (N) von E/A-(Ein-/Ausgabe)-Geräten216-1 bis216-N und ein peripherer Verschlüsselungsprozessor220 gekoppelt. - E/A-Geräte
216-1 bis216-N können beispielsweise eine Tastatur, ein Zeigegerät, ein Anzeigegerät und/oder andere herkömmliche E/A-Geräte beinhalten. Ein Massenspeichergerät210 kann ein beliebiges geeignetes Gerät zum Speichern großer Datenvolumen beinhalten, z.B. Magnetplatte oder -band, ein MO-(magnetooptisches)-Speichergerät oder beliebige von verschiedenen Typen von DVD-(Digital Versatile Disk) oder CD-(Compact Disk) Speichergeräten. - Die Netzwerkschnittstelle
212 bietet Datenkommunikation zwischen dem Computersystem und anderen Computersystemen auf dem Netzwerk104 . Somit kann die Netzwerkschnittstelle210 ein beliebiges Gerät sein, das für den Webserver102 geeignet ist oder diesen befähigen kann, Daten mit einem Fernverarbeitungssystem (z.B. dem Client-Computer110 ) über eine Datenkommunikationslink zu übermitteln, wie z.B. ein herkömmliches Telefonmodem, ein ISDN-(Integrated Services Digital Network)-Adapter, ein DSL-(Digital Subscriber Line)-Adapter, ein Kabelmodem, ein Satelliten-Transceiver, ein Ethernet-Adapter oder dergleichen. - Der Webserver
102 verarbeitet typischerweise große Datenmengen, wie z.B. Streaming-Daten wie Streaming-Video oder Streaming-Audio oder Daten zum Versorgen einer Website oder andere Webdaten.3 zeigt ein Fließschema der Verfahrensoperationen300 des Webservers102 , der ein großes Datenvolumen wie z.B. einen 10 MB Datenstrom bereitstellt. In Operation305 empfängt der Webserver102 eine Anforderung für den 10 MB Datenstrom vom Client110 . Wenn der 10 MB Datenstrom eine Verarbeitung wie z.B. eine Verschlüsselung erfordert, dann muss der 10 MB Datenstrom zunächst vom DRAM206 in den Prozessor202 abgerufen werden. In Operation310 wird der Datenstrom vom DRAM206 und/oder von anderen Teilen des Speichersystems203 abgerufen. - In Operation
315 wird der Datenstrom im Prozessor202 verarbeitet. In Operation320 wird der verarbeitete Datenstrom im DRAM206 gespeichert. In Operation325 wird der Datenstrom durch die Netzwerkschnittstelle212 zum Netzwerk104 zum Client110 übertragen. - Der verarbeitete Datenstrom muss im Speichersystem
203 gespeichert werden, weil der Prozessor202 und die Netzwerkschnittstelle212 typischerweise unterschiedliche Datenverarbeitungsraten haben. Das periphere Bussystem208 arbeitet typischerweise mit etwa 166 MHz, daher arbeitet die Netzwerkschnittstelle212 typischerweise mit weniger als 2 GHz und kann die Daten nicht so schnell zuführen, wie sie der Prozessor verarbeiten kann. Infolgedessen müssen die verarbeiteten Daten vorübergehend im Speichersystem203 gespeichert werden, so dass die Netzwerkschnittstelle212 die verarbeiteten Daten mit der optimalen Rate für die Netzwerkschnittstelle212 übertragen kann. Die Netzwerkschnittstelle212 könnte auch in der Lage sein, die Daten schneller auszugeben, als sie der Prozessor verarbeiten kann, daher können sich die verarbeiteten Daten im Speichersystem203 ansammeln und die Netzwerkschnittstelle203 kann die Daten vom Speichersystem203 mit einer hohen Rate übertragen. - Wie in
3 oben beschrieben, muss der 10 MB Datenstrom jetzt über das periphere Bussystem208 zwischen dem DRAM206 und dem Prozessor202 dreimal übertragen werden. Daher hat die Übertragung eines 10 MB Datenstroms zur Folge, dass ein 30 MB Datenstrom zwischen dem DRAM206 und dem Prozessor202 fließt. Diese mehreren Durchgänge zwischen dem DRAM206 und dem Prozessor202 brauchen einen großen Teil der gesamten E/A-Bandbreite von E/A des Prozessors202 , die die Fähigkeit des Prozessors202 begrenzen kann, andere Operationen neben der Übertragung des 10 MB Datenstroms auszuführen. - Es besteht Bedarf an einem System und einem Verfahren zum Reduzieren des Bandbreitengebrauchs des Prozessors zur Speichersystemschnittstelle.
- Der technische Artikel „A Tightly-Coupled Processor-Network Interface" von D.S. Henry und C.F. Joerg. Oktober 1992, offenbart die Verwendung des Cache-Busses für eine direkte Datenübertragung zwischen dem Prozessor und einer Netzwerkschnittstelle.
- ZUSAMMENFASSUNG DER ERFINDUNG
- Grob ausgedrückt, die vorliegende Erfindung deckt diesen Bedarf durch Bereitstellen eines Systems und eines Verfahrens zum Cachen von DRAM zum Reduzieren des Bandbreitengebrauchs des Prozessors zur Speichersystemschnittstelle. Es ist zu verstehen, dass die vorliegende Erfindung auf viele Weisen ausgeführt werden kann, wie z.B. als ein Prozess, eine Vorrichtung, ein System, ein rechnerlesbares Medium oder ein Gerät. Mehrere erfinderische Ausgestaltungen der vorliegenden Erfindung werden nachfolgend beschrieben.
- Eine Ausgestaltung beinhaltet einen Server, der einen Prozessor und ein angeschlossenes Speichersystem beinhaltet, die mit einem ersten Bussystem gekoppelt sind. Eine Netzwerkschnittstelle ist mit dem Prozessor gekoppelt und ein Egress-Puffer ist mit dem Prozessor und der Netzwerkschnittstelle durch einen zweiten dedizierten Egress-Bus gekoppelt.
- Der Prozessor kann auch mehrere Prozessoren beinhalten. Die mehreren Prozessoren können auf einem ersten Chip enthalten sein. Alternativ können die mehreren Prozessoren auf mehreren separaten Chips enthalten sein.
- Der Egress-Puffer kann einen schnellen Arbeitsspeicher beinhalten. In einer Ausgestaltung beinhaltet der Egress-Puffer einen Arbeitsspeicher mit einer Betriebsfrequenz von etwa 400 MHz.
- Der Egress-Puffer und der Egress-Bus können eine Datendurchsatzrate haben, die gleich oder mehr als etwa das Zweifache der Menge eines zu übertragenden Datenstroms beträgt.
- Der Egress-Puffer kann auch einen Puffer mit der doppelten Datenrate aufweisen.
- Der Egress-Bus hat eine Bandbreite, die gleich oder größer als etwa das Zweifache der Menge eines zu übertragenden Datenstroms ist. Der Egress-Bus kann auch einen 32-Bit-Datenbus beinhalten.
- Eine Ausgestaltung beinhaltet ein Verfahren zum Bereitstellen von Daten, das die folgenden Schritte umfasst: Empfangen einer Anforderung für Daten in einem Prozessor in einem Server, wobei der Prozessor mit einem ersten Bussystem gekoppelt ist. Die angeforderten Daten werden abgerufen. Die abgerufenen Daten werden im Prozessor verarbeitet. Die verarbeiteten Daten werden in einem Egress-Puffer gespeichert, der mit dem Prozessor und einer Netzwerkschnittstelle gekoppelt ist. Die gespeicherten Daten werden vom Egress-Puffer durch die Netzwerkschnittstelle zugeführt.
- Der Egress-Puffer ist mit dem Prozessor und der Netzwerkschnittstelle durch einen zweiten dedizierten Egress-Bus gekoppelt.
- Die angeforderten Daten können einen Datenstrom beinhalten.
- Der Egress-Bus hat eine Bandbreite von etwa dem Zweifachen der Bandbreite des Datenstroms.
- Der Egress-Bus kann einen 32-Bit-Datenbus beinhalten.
- Die verarbeiteten Daten können im Egress-Puffer im Wesentlichen gleichzeitig mit den vom Egress-Puffer bereitgestellten gespeicherten Daten gespeichert werden.
- Das Verarbeiten der abgerufenen Daten im Prozessor kann auch das Formatieren der Daten, das Verschlüsseln der Daten und das Entschlüsseln der Daten unter anderen Vorgängen beinhalten.
- Weitere Aspekte und Vorteile der Erfindung gehen aus der nachfolgenden ausführlichen Beschreibung in Verbindung mit den Begleitzeichnungen hervor, die beispielhaft die Grundsätze der Erfindung illustrieren.
- KURZBESCHREIBUNG DER ZEICHNUNGEN
- Die vorliegende Erfindung wird anhand der folgenden ausführlichen Beschreibung in Verbindung mit den Begleitzeichnungen leicht verständlich, und gleiche Strukturelemente sind mit denselben Bezugsziffern bezeichnet.

1 zeigt einen typischen Webserver und Client-Computer, die durch ein Netzwerk wie z.B das Internet oder ein anderes Netzwerk miteinander verbunden sind. -

6 zeigt ein Blockdiagramm eines Prozessors gemäß einer Ausgestaltung der vorliegenden Erfindung. - AUSFÜHRLICHE BESCHREIBUNG DER AUSFÜHRUNGSBEISPIELE
- Es werden nun mehrere Ausführungsbeispiele zum Cachen von DRAM zum Reduzieren des Bandbreitengebrauchs des Prozessors zur Speichersystemschnittstelle beschrieben. Es wird für die Fachperson offensichtlich sein, dass die vorliegende Erfindung auch ohne einige oder alle der hierin dargelegten speziellen Dateils praktiziert werden kann.
- Eine Ausgestaltung der vorliegenden Erfindung beinhaltet einen Egress-Puffer, der zum vorübergehenden Speichern verarbeiteter Daten von dem Prozessor verwendet werden kann, die von der Netzwerkschnittstelle bereitgestellt werden. Der Egress-Puffer reduziert dadurch den Bandbreitenbedarf des Prozessors zur Speichersystemschnittstelle um etwa zwei Drittel.

4 zeigt ein Blockdiagramm eines Servers400 gemäß einer Ausgestaltung der vorliegenden Erfindung. Der Server400 kann ein Webserver oder ein anderer Servertyp sein. Der Server400 beinhaltet ein Bussystem408 , das einen Prozessor402 und ein Speichersystem404 koppelt. Der Prozessor402 hat wenigstens einen Prozessorkern402A . Der Server400 beinhaltet auch einen Egress-Puffer420 , der mit dem Prozessor402 und einer Netzwerkschnittstelle412 gekoppelt ist. - Der Egress-Puffer
420 ist mit dem Prozessor402 und der Netzwerkschnittstelle412 über einen dedizierten Egress-Bus422 gekoppelt. Der Egress-Bus422 kann so breit wie notwendig sein; so kann der Egress-Bus422 z.B. eine Breite von 32 Bit (d.h. Zeilen) haben, aber der Egress-Bus422 kann auch schmäler oder breiter sein, z.B. 16 Bit oder 64 Bit. Der Egress-Puffer420 kann groß genug sein, um den gewünschten Datendurchsatz der Netzwerkschnittstelle412 zu puffern, wie nachfolgend ausführlicher beschrieben wird. Mit Bezug auf das obige Beispiel eines 10 Gigabit-Datendurchsatzes, müsste der Egress-Puffer420 32 Megabyte groß oder noch größer sein. - In einer Ausgestaltung hat der Egress-Puffer
420 einen sehr schnellen RAM wie z.B. einen RAM mit schneller Zykluszeit (FCRAM), der mit etwa 400 MHz oder mehr arbeitet. Der FCRAM lässt es zu, dass der Egress-Puffer420 die Daten über den Egress-Bus422 mit der Geschwindigkeit der Netzwerkschnittstelle412 zu dieser überträgt. - In einer Ausgestaltung kann der Server
400 mehrere Prozessoren auf mehreren Prozessorchips beinhalten. Der Egress-Bus422 kann auch einen einzelnen Egress-Puffer420 mit allen der mehreren Prozessoren koppeln. Es kann eine Egress-Bussteuerung vorgesehen sein, um den Datenfluss zwischen den mehreren Prozessoren und dem Egress-Puffer420 zu verwalten. -
5 ist ein Fließschema der Verfahrensoperationen500 des Übertragens von Daten mittels eines Egress-Puffers gemäß einer Ausgestaltung der vorliegenden Erfindung. In Operation505 geht eine Datenanforderung im Server400 ein. Die Anforderung kann von einer Applikation im Server400 kommen oder auf eine von einem externen Datenanforderer empfangene Anforderung zurückzuführen sein, z.B. ein Client-Computer110 in1 , der über ein Netzwerk mit dem Server400 verbunden ist. - Der Prozessor
402 ruft die angeforderten Daten in Operation510 ab. Die Daten können von zahlreichen Quellen wie z.B. vom Speichersystem404 oder von anderen Quellen über den Systemdatenbus408 abgerufen werden. In Operation515 verarbeitet der Prozessor402 die abgerufenen Daten, z.B. er paketiert die Daten oder führt eine andere Funktion wie Formatieren, Verschlüsseln, Entschlüsseln oder eine andere Verarbeitung an den abgerufenen Daten durch. - Die verarbeiteten Daten werden in Operation
520 im Egress-Puffer420 über den Egress-Bus422 gespeichert. In Operation525 ruft die Netzwerkschnittstelle412 ,412' die verarbeiteten Daten vom Egress-Puffer420 über den Egress-Bus422 ab und überträgt die Daten zum Datenanforderer. -
6 zeigt ein Blockdiagramm eines Prozessors402' gemäß einer Ausgestaltung der vorliegenden Erfindung. Der Prozessor402' hat einen Prozessorkern402A' und eine integrierte Netzwerkschnittstelle412' . Da die integrierte Netzwerkschnittstelle412' auf dem Prozessorchip402' mit dem Prozessorkern402A' enthalten ist, kann die Netzwerkschnittstelle412' Daten schneller ausgeben als die oben in4 beschriebene Netzwerkschnittstelle412 . - In einer Ausgestaltung koppelt ein dedizierter Bus
422A den Prozessorkern402A' mit dem dedizierten Egress-Bus422 durch eine Prozessdatenvermittlung430 . Die Prozessdatenvermittlung430 ist auch über einen Bus422B mit der Netzwerkschnittstelle412' gekoppelt. Alternativ kann die Netzwerkschnittstelle412' durch einen separaten dedizierten Bus mit dem Egress-Puffer420 gekoppelt sein. Die Prozessdatenvermittlung430 leitet die Daten vom Prozessorkern402A' zum Egress-Puffer420 oder zum Speichersystem404 und steuert den Datenfluss über den Egress-Bus422 , so dass die Daten entweder zur Netzwerkschnitstelle412' oder vom Prozessorkern402A' fließen. - In alternativen Ausgestaltungen kann der Egress-Bus
422 auch andere Komponenten auf dem Prozessorchip mit dem Egress-Puffer420 verbinden. - In einer Ausgestaltung ist der Egress-Puffer
420 ein DDR-(doppelte Datenrate)-Puffer von etwa 400 MHz. In Kombination mit einem 32-Bit breiten Egress-Bus422 erzeugt ein 400 MHz DDR-Puffer 800 MHz X 32-Bit breiten Egress-Bus422 zum Erzeugen von 3,2 GB Durchsatz pro Sekunde mit einem relativ kleinen eigentlichen Puffer von nur zwei oder vier Bit pro 32-Bit-Leitung des Egress-Busses422.3 ,2 GB Durchsatz pro Sekunde des Egress-Busses422 und des Egress-Puffers420 entsprechen etwas mehr als 24 Gigabit pro Sekunde. Ein Egress-Puffer420 mit 24 Gigabit pro Sekunde kann zwei Datenströme von 10 Gigabit pro Sekunde unterstützen: ein erster 10-Gigabit-Datenstrom wird in den Egress-Puffer420 eingegeben, während ein zweiter 10-Gigabit-Datenstrom vom Egress-Puffer420 zur Netzwerkschnittstelle412 ,412' ausgegeben wird. Die Speichergeschwindigkeit des Egress-Puffers420 muss ausreichen, um die Datenanforderungsrate der Netzwerkschnittstelle412 ,412' zu unterstützen. - Der Egress-Puffer
420 - Da der Egress-Puffer
24 durch den dedizierten Egress-Bus422 mit dem Prozessorkern402A' gekoppelt ist, kann der Egress-Bus422 die Daten viel schneller zuführen als ein gemeinsamer Datenbus wie die E/A-Schnittstelle432 zwischen dem Speichersystem404 und dem Prozessorkern402A' . Ferner kann der Egress-Puffer420 , da er einen weitaus schnelleren RAM (z.B. FCRAM) verwendet, die Daten schneller übertragen als ein standardmäßiger DRAM. - Der Egress-Puffer
420 kann auch die Datenschnittstelle zwischen der Datenverarbeitungsrate des Prozessorkerns402A und der Rate, mit der die Netzwerkschnittstelle412 die Daten zuführen kann, im Wesentlichen ausglätten. Die Verarbeitungsratendifferenz (d.h. die transiente Variation) kann häufig variieren, wenn der Prozessor andere Operationen ausführt oder das Netzwerk belegt ist und die Rate reduziert, mit der die Netzwerkschnittstelle412 die Daten übertragen kann. Die Menge an transienter Variation nimmt mit zunehmender Größe des Egress-Puffers420 zu. - Der FCRAM des Egress-Puffers
420 kann in einem beliebigen Bereich von etwa 100 MHz oder noch langsamer bis etwa 400 MHz oder noch höher arbeiten. Je höher die Geschwindigkeit des Egress-Puffers420 , desto höher die Effizienz des Prozessors, der die Daten zur Netzwerkschnittstelle überträgt. Alternativ würde auch ein langsamerer FCRAM des Egress-Puffers420 die Effizienz erhöhen, indem er die Anforderung über den Systembus408 und insbesondere über die Schnittstelle zwischen dem Speichersystem404 und dem Prozessor402 reduziert. - Der Egress-Puffer
420 könnte sich auf demselben Chip befinden wie der Prozessor402 . Der Egress-Puffer420 wäre jedoch typischerweise nicht Teil des Prozessorchips, weil die physische Größe des Speichers im Vergleich zur Größe der Mikroprozessor-Bauelemente im Prozessor402 relativ hoch ist, und daher ist eine Integration des Egress-Puffers keine effiziente Nutzung des Raums auf dem Prozessorchip. - Die Netzwerkschnittstelle
412 ,412' kann eine beliebige Bandbreite wie z.B. etwa 4 Gigabit pro Sekunde oder etwa 10 Gigabit pro Sekunde haben. Die Netzwerkschnittstelle412 ,412' hat direkten Zugang zum Egress-Puffer420 über den dedizierten Egress-Bus422 . - Der hierin verwendete Begriff „etwa" bedeutet +/– 10%. Zum Beispiel, der Ausdruck „etwa 250" bedeutet einen Bereich von zwischen 225 und 275.
- Im Hinblick auf die obigen Ausgestaltungen ist zu verstehen, dass die Erfindung möglicherweise verschiedene computerimplementierte Operationen ausführen könnte, die in Computersystemen gespeicherte Daten beinhalten. Diese Operationen sind solche, die eine physikalische Manipulation physikalischer Größen erfordern. Diese Größen haben gewöhnlich, aber nicht unbedingt, die Form von elektrischen oder magnetischen Signalen, die gespeichert, übertragen, kombiniert, verglichen oder auf andere Weise manipuliert werden können. Ferner werden die ausgeführten Manipulationen häufig mit Begriffen wie Produzieren, Identifizieren, Ermitteln oder Vergleichen bezeichnet.
- Alle hierin beschriebenen Operationen, die Teil der Erfindung bilden, sind nützliche Maschinenoperationen. Die Erfindung betrifft auch ein Gerät oder eine Vorrichtung zum Ausführen dieser Operationen. Die Vorrichtung kann speziell für die benötigten Zwecke konstruiert sein, oder sie kann ein Universalcomputer sein, der von einem in dem Computer gespeicherten Computerprogramm selektiv aktiviert oder konfiguriert wird. Insbesondere können verschiedene Universalmaschinen mit Computerprogrammen verwendet werden, die gemäß den Lehren hierin geschrieben wurden, oder es kann praktischer sein, eine speziellere Vorrichtung zum Ausführen der benötigten Operationen zu konstruieren.
- Die Erfindung kann auch als rechnerlesbarer Code auf einem rechnerlesbaren Medium ausgestaltet sein. Das rechnerlesbare Medium ist ein beliebiges Datenspeichergerät, das Daten speichern kann, die danach von einem Computersystem gelesen werden können. Beispiele für das rechnerlesbare Medium sind unter anderem Festplatten, NAS (Network Attached Storage), Festwertspeicher, Arbeitsspeicher, CD-ROMs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, Magnetbänder und andere optische und nichtoptische Datenspeichergeräte. Das rechnerlesbare Medium kann auch über netzwerkgekoppelte Computersysteme verteilt sein, so dass der rechnerlesbare Code in einer verteilten Weise gespeichert und ausgeführt wird.
- Es wird ferner verständlich sein, dass die durch die Operationen in
5 repräsentierten Befehle nicht in der illustrierten Reihenfolge ausgeführt zu werden brauchen und dass nicht unbedingt die gesamte durch die Operationen repräsentierte Verarbeitung zum Praktizieren der Erfindung notwendig ist. Ferner können die in5 beschriebenen Prozesse auch in Software implementiert werden, die in RAM, ROM und/oder Festplattenlaufwerk oder Kombinationen davon gespeichert ist. - Die obige Erfindung wurde zwar recht ausführlich zur Vermittlung eines klaren Verständnisses beschrieben, aber es ist offensichtlich, dass bestimmte Änderungen und Modifikationen im Rahmen der beiliegenden Ansprüche möglich sind. Demgemäß sind die vorliegenden Ausgestaltungen als illustrativ und nicht als beschränkend anzusehen und die Erfindung ist nicht auf die hierin gegebenen Details begrenzt, sondern kann innerhalb des Umfangs und der Äquivalente der beiliegenden Ansprüche modifiziert werden.
Claims (17)
- Server (
400 ) zum Bereitstellen von Daten, der Folgendes umfasst: einen Prozessor (402 ), der mit einem ersten Bussystem (408 ) gekoppelt ist; ein Speichersystem (404 ), das mit dem ersten Bussystem (408 ) gekoppelt ist; eine Netzwerkschnittstelle (412 ), die mit dem Prozessor (402 ) gekoppelt ist; und gekennzeichnet durch einen Egress-Puffer (420 ), der durch einen zweiten dedizierten Egress-Bus (422 ) mit dem Prozessor (402 ) und der Netzwerkschnittstelle (412 ) gekoppelt ist. - Server nach Anspruch 1, wobei der Prozessor (
402 ) eine Mehrzahl von Prozessoren beinhaltet. - Server (
400 ) nach Anspruch 2, wobei die Mehrzahl von Prozessoren auf einem ersten Chip enthalten ist. - Server (
400 ) nach Anspruch 2, wobei die Mehrzahl von Prozessoren auf einer Mehrzahl von Chips enthalten ist. - Server (
400 ) nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, wobei der Egress-Puffer (420 ) einen schnellen Direktzugriffsspeicher aufweist. - Server (
400 ) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, wobei der Egress-Puffer (420 ) einen Direktzugriffsspeicher mit einer Betriebsfrequenz von etwa 400 MHz aufweist. - Server (
400 ) nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, wobei der Egress-Puffer (420 ) und der Egress-Bus (422 ) eine Datendurchsatzrate haben, die gleich dem oder mehr als etwa das Zweifache(n) der Menge eines zu liefernden Datenstroms ist. - Server (
400 ) nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche, wobei der Egress-Puffer (420 ) einen Puffer mit der doppelten Datenrate aufweist. - Verfahren zum Bereitstellen von Daten, das die folgenden Schritte umfasst: Empfangen einer Anforderung für Daten in einem Prozessor (
402 ) in einem Server (400 ), wobei der Prozessor mit einem ersten Bussystem gekoppelt ist; Abrufen der angeforderten Daten, Verarbeiten der abgerufenen Daten in dem Prozessor (402 ); gekennzeichnet durch Speichern der verarbeiteten Daten in einem Egress-Puffer (420 ), der mit einer Netzwerkschnittstelle (412 ) gekoppelt ist und durch einen zweiten dedizierten Egress-Bus (422 ) mit dem Prozessor (402 ) gekoppelt ist; und Zuführen der gespeicherten Daten von dem Egress-Puffer (420 ) durch die Netzwerkschnittstelle (412 ). - Verfahren nach Anspruch 9, bei dem der Egress-Puffer (
420 ) durch den Egress-Bus (422 ) mit der Netzwerkschnittstelle gekoppelt ist. - Verfahren nach Anspruch 9, bei dem die angeforderten Daten einen Datenstrom beinhalten.
- Verfahren nach Anspruch 11, bei dem der Egress-Bus (
422 ) eine Bandbreite hat, die etwa das Zweifache einer Bandbreite des Datenstroms beträgt. - Server nach Anspruch 1 oder Verfahren nach Anspruch 11, wobei der Egress-Bus (
422 ) einen 32-Bit-Datenbus beinhaltet. - Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 9 bis 13, bei dem die verarbeiteten Daten im Wesentlichen zur gleichen Zeit im Egress-Puffer (
420 ) gespeichert werden, wie die gespeicherten Daten aus dem Egress-Puffer (420 ) zugeführt werden. - Verfahren nach Anspruch 9, wobei die Verarbeitung der abgerufenen Daten in dem Prozessor (
402 ) wenigstens eine Tätigkeit aus einer Gruppe bestehend aus dem Formatieren der Daten, dem Verschlüsseln der Daten und dem Entschlüsseln der Daten beinhaltet. - Server nach Anspruch 1 oder Verfahren nach Anspruch 11, wobei der Egress-Bus (
422 ) eine Bandbreite hat, die gleich dem oder mehr als das Zweifache(n) des zuzuführenden Datenstroms ist. - Verfahren nach Anspruch 16, bei dem der Datenstrom wenigstens ein Mitglied aus der Gruppe bestehend aus Audio und Video beinhaltet.
