Description
2. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Kohlenwasserstoffreste
der Komponenten aliphatische Reste sind.
3. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die aliphatischen
Reste Alkylreste mit 4 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen sind.
4. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach den An-Sprüchen 2 und 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die
aliphatischen Reste tertiäre Alkylreste sind.
5. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß ein t-Butyl-,
t-Octyl- oder t-Dodecylrest als tertiärer Alkylrest
fungiert.
6. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sich
bei jeder Komponente zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befinden.
7. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach Anspruch 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sich die
Sulfidbrücke aller in ihr enthaltenen Sulfide in Parastellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet.
8. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach den An-Sprüchen 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie ein
Gemisch von Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel
enthält, worin R einen Aikylrest und χ 1,2, 3 oder 4
bedeuten.
9. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach den Ansprüchen
1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie 55 bis 65 Gewichtsprozent der Komponente (a), IO bis
15 Gewichtsprozent der Komponente (b) und 20 bis 35 Gewichtsprozent der Komponente (c) enthält.
10. Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie etwa 62
Gewichtsprozent 2,6-Di-t-butylphenol, etwa 12 Gewichtsprozent
2,6-Di-t-butylphenoldisulfid, etwa 19
Gewichtsprozent 2,6-Di-t-butylphenoltrisulfid, etwa
5 Gewichtsprozent 2,6-Di-t-butylphenoltetrasulfid
und etwa 2 Gewichtsprozent 2,6-Di-t-butylphenolmonosulfid
enthält
11. Öllösung, gekennzeichnet durch einen Gehalt
von 10 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent Verdünnungsöl und
60 bis 90 Gewichtsprozent Schmierölzusatzmischung gemäß den Ansprüchen 1 bis 10.
12. Schmierölmischung, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie ein Schmieröl und 0,01 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent
der Schmierölzusatzmischung nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 10 enthält.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen, die als Antioxidations- und Korrosionsschutzmittel
in Schmierölen wirkt.
Es wurde gefunden, daß Mischungen von kohlenstoffsubstituierten Phenolen und sulfidierten kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten
Phenolen sehr gute Antioxidations- und Korrosiorseigenschaften haben, wenn sie Schmierölen
zugesetzt werden.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist dementsprechend eine Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen, die sich zur Zugabe
zu Schmierölen und Brenn- bzw. Heizölen eignet, und dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß sie
(a) 45 bis 75 Gewichtsprozent eines mit ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffresten substituierten Phenols,
von denen sich einer in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet,
(b) 5 bis 20 Gewichtsprozent eines kohlenwassersloffsubstituierten
Phenoldisulfids, wobei jeder Ben/.olring ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt,
von denen sich einer bei jedem Ring in Orthoslellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet,
(c) 15 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent eines kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten
Phenoltrisulfids, wobei jeder Benzolring ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt, von denen sich einer bei jedem Ring in
Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet,
(d) bis zu 10 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Komponenten (a), (b) und (c), eines kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten
Phenoltetrasulfids, wobei jeder Benzolring ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt, von denen sich einer bei jedem
Ring in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet, und gegebenenfalls
(e) bis zu 5 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Komponenten (a), (b) und (c), eines kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten
Phenolmonosulfids (e), wobei jeder Benzolring ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste
besitzt, von denen sich einer bei jedem Ring in Orthostellungzur Hydroxylgruppe befindet.enlhiilt.
Aus dem Stand der Technik sind eine Vielzahl von Schmierölzusätzen und Schmierölzusatzmischungen
bekannt So betrifft die DE-PS 9 44 678 Schmieröle, die als Additiv Alkylphenolmono- und -disulfide in Korabination
mit den aus den Patenten 8 65 339, 9 34184, 9 34 185 und 9 41687 bekannten Additiven enthalten
können. Dementsprechend unterscheidet sich das Additivgemisch der DE-PS 9 44 678 grundsätzlich von der
erfindungsgemäßen Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen.
Aus der DE-AS 10 54 196 (siehe auch die entspre- to chende US-PS 30 47 502) sind Additive für Schmiermittel
und Metallbearbeitungsmittel gemäß der in Patentanspruch 1 angegebenen Formel bekannt Diese Phenolmono-
oder -disulfide unterscheiden sich grundsätzlich von den erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Phenolsulfiden,
da sie aufgrund der Bedingung, daß die Anzahl der Alkylreste höchstens gleich der Anzatil der Halogensubstituenten
sein kann, immer Halogen enthalten müssen.
In der DE-OS 17 68 334 sind in der Beschreibungseinleitung
Verbindungen erwähnt, die zur Stabilisierung von Schmierölen geeignet sein sollen. Diese Verbindungen
unterscheiden sich jedoch grundsätzlich von den erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Phenolsulfiden, da sich
zwischen den Schwefelatomen eine Alkylgruppe oder eine substituierte Alkylgruppe befindet.
In der DE-OS 15 94 657 werden aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffdisulfide,
wie sie durch Umsetzung von Xylol mit Dischwefeldichlorid erhalten werden, als Zusätze
für Hochdruckschmieröle empfohlen. Hierbei handelt es sich jedoch nicht um die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten
Phenolsulfide.
Aus der GB-PS 7 44 534 sind Schmieröladditivzusammensetzungen
bekannt, die aus einer Mischung aus einem öllöslichen Metallsulfonat eines aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffs
und einem Alkylphenolsulfid oder Alkylthiophenolsulfid bestehen, wobei diese Mischung
wiederum mit Metallverbindungen zwecks Neutralisation des Alkylphenolsulfids oder Alkylthiophenolsulfids
behandelt worden ist. Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Phenolsulfide werden in dieser Patentschrift nicht
als Schmierölzusatz empfohlen und nur zum Teil als Zwischenprodukte erwähnt.
Aus der GB-PS 7 09 903 sind weiterhin Schmieröle bekannt, die eine Mischung aus einem öllöslichen aliphatischen
Teilester eines mehrwertigen Alkohols und einem Erdalkalimetallderivat eines Alkylphenolsulfids
oder eines sulforierten alkylierten Phenols enthalten. Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Phenolsulfide werden
in dieser Patentschrift wiederum nicht als Schmierölzusätze beschrieben und allenfalls in allgemeiner
Form als Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung der entsprechenden Erdalkalimetallderivate erwähnt.
Aus der US-PS 37 45 117 sind Schmieröle bekannt, denen Phenolsulfide, wie sie auch erfindungsgemäß verwendet
werden können, zusammen mit einem ausgewählten substituierten Phenol zugesetzt werden. Abgesehen
davon, daß in dieser Patentschrift nur ganz bestimmte Verbindungen als geeignet bezeichnet werden,
findet sich kein Hinweis auf die erfindungsgemäße Lehrc, wonach mengenmäßig festgelegte Gemische von
substituierten Phenolen, Phenoldisulfiden und Phenoltrisulfiden eingesetzt werden müssen.
In der US-PS 31 68 480 sind Schmieröladditive beschrieben,
die aus polymeren! phenolischen Material bestehen, das Schwefel und Chlor enthält. Abgesehen von
der ungeklärten Struktur dieser Verbindungen unterscheiden sie sich erheblich von den erfindungsgemäß
verwendeten Phenolsulfiden durch ihren Chlorgehalt Außerdem werden gemäß dieser Patentschrift keine
substituierten Phenole eingesetzt
Aus der US-PS 30 60 121 sind Verbindungen bekannt,
die u. a. als Schmieröladditive eingesetzt werden können.
Diese Verbindungen, bei denen es sich um substituierte Phenolsulfide handelt, können jedoch allenfalls einen
Teil der erfindungsgemäßen Mischung von Schmierölzusätzen bilden. Es findet sich kein Hinweis
darauf, Phenoldisulfide und Phenoltrisulfide in bestimmten Mengen mit substituierten Phenolen zu mischen.
In der US-PS 3044 961 sind als Schmieröladditive geeignete mehrwertige Metallsalze beschrieben, deren
Anionen aus mehreren über Brücken verbundenen Phenolresten und Essigsäure bestehea Diese Additive unterscheiden
sich grundlegend von den Schmierölzusätzen in der erfindungsgeir.äßen Mischung.
Die US-PS 30 44 960 schließlich stellt eine Weiterentwicklung
der Lehre der US-PS 30 44 961 dar und betrifft entsprechende mehrwertige Metallsalze, in denen jedoch
der phenolische Teil der Anionen vollständig hydriert ist.
Abgesehen von ihren insgesamt ausgezeichneten Eigenschaften führt die erfindungsgemäße Mischung von
Schmierölzusätzen im Vergleich zum umfangreichen Stand der Technik zu einer deutlichen Verbesserung der
Stabilität der damit behandelten Schmieröle. Daß dies ein besonders wichtiger Gesichtspunkt ist und daß die
Erzielung einer Kombination von gewünschten Eigenschaften (siehe das unten folgende Beispiel) besonders
schwierig ist, ergibt sich beispielsweise aus den Ausführungen in der US-PS 37 45 117 (Spalte 1 unten) und der
US-PS 31 68 480 (Spalte 1, Zeilen 13-45). Gegenüber den meisten in den oben diskutierten Druckschriften
beschriebenen Additiven besitzt die erfindungsgemäße Mischung darüber hinaus den Vorteil, daß sie weder
Metalle noch Halogen enthält. Wenngleich diese Bestandteile in den bekannten Additiven einen positiven
Einfluß auf bestimmte Eigenschaften haben, sind mit ihnen jedoch schwerwiegende Nachteile verbunden, die
durch die erfindungsgemäße Mischung von vornherein vermieden werden (vgl. hierzu DE-OS 15 94 657, Seite 2,
Zeilen 1 bis 6 und US-PS 31 68 480, Spalte 1, Zeile 66 bis Spalte 2, Zeile 3).
Wie der umfangreiche Stand der Technik zeigt, handelt es sich bei dem vorliegenden Gebiet um ein technisches
Gebiet, das seit vielen Jahren intensiv untersucht wird. Es ist deshalb überraschend und stellt einen erheblichen
technischen Fortschritt dar, daß durch Verwendung leicht zugänglicher und im Prinzip seit langem
bekannter Verbindungen in bestimmten Mengenverhältnissen erfindungsgemäß eine Additivmischung gefunden
worden ist, die den aus dem Stand der Technik bekannten Additiven, die in der Regel weniger leicht
zugänglich und komplizierter zusammengesetzt sind, nicht nur gleichwertig, sondern hinsichtlich der erzielbaren
Kombination von Eigenschaften und insbesondere hinsichtlich der dem Schmieröl verliehene Stabilität
überlegen sind.
Die Kohlenwasserstoffreste der Komponenten (a), (b), (c), (d) und (e) sind vorzugsweise aliphatische Reste,
zum Beispiel Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl- oder Alkenylreste. Falls es erwünscht ist, können die Substituenten auch aromatische
Reste sein wie Aryl-, Aralkyl- oder Alkylarylreste zum Beispiel Tolyl-, Phenyläthyl- oder Phenylbutylreste.
Vorzugsweise besitzt jeder aliphatische Rest mindestens drei Kohlenstoffatom^ zum Beispiel zwischen vier
und zwanzig Kohlenstoffatome. Beispiele hierfür sind
t-Butyl-, sec-Butyl-, Amyl-, Hexyi-, Cyclohexyl-, Octyl-,
Isooctyl-, Nonyl-, Decyl-, Dodecyl-, Octadecyl- oder Eikosylreste.
Vorzugsweise sind die AUcyireste verzweigt,
wobei insbesondere tertiäre Alkylreste wie t-Butyl-, t-Octyl- und t-Dodecylreste bevorzugt sind.
Andere geeignete aliphatische Reste sind Alkenylreste, die durch Polymerisation von Monoolefinen entstehen.
Geeignete Olefine sind zum Beispie! Äthylen, Propylen, Butylen oder 1-Hexen. Solche Alkenylreste enthalten
gewöhnlich zwischen 20 und 50 Kohlenstoffatome, zum Beispiel zwischen 60 und 70 Kohlenstoff atome.
Jede Komponente (a) bis (e) kann ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste
je Benzolring besitzen, wobei sich einer von ihnen in Orthosteilung zur Hydroxylgruppe
befinden muß. Besitzt ein Benzolring zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste, so sollten sich beide vorzugsweise in
Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befinden.
Die Kohlenwasserstoffreste können sowohl für jede einzelne Komponente als auch für die Komponenten
untereinander gleich oder verschieden sein. Im allgemeinen sind die Kohlenwasserstoffreste jedoch für die
Komponenten (a), (b) und (c) und für die gegebenenfalls vorhandenen Komponenten (d) und (e) gleich. Normalerweise
ist die Zahl der Kohlenwasserstoffreste für alle Komponenten gleich und wenn jede Komponente zwei
Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt, befinden sich diese alle in der gleichen Stellung zur Hydroxylgruppe.
Bei den Komponenten (b), (c), (d) und (e) kann sich die Schwefelbrücke zwischen den beiden Benzolringen in
Orthostellung befinden, befindet sich jedoch vorzugsweise in ParaStellung zur Hydroxylgruppe.
Die Komponenten (b), (c), (d) und (e) können im allgemeinen
durch folgende allgemeine Formel dargestellt werden:

wobei R ein Kohlenwasserstoffrest, vorzugsweise ein Alkylrest ist, der für eine oder mehr Stellungen verschieden
sein kann, aber normalerweise gleich ist; und wobei χ für die Komponenten (b), (c), (d) und (e) 2, 3, 4
bzw. 1 ist.
Die bevorzugten Anteile der Komponenten (a), (b) und (c) sind 55 bis 65Gew.-% bzw. 10 bis 15 Gew.-%
bzw. 20 bis 35 Gew.-%. Typische Anteile für die Komponenten (d) und (e) sind 3 bis 7 Gew.-°/o bzw. 1 bis
2 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Komponenten (a),(b)und(c).
Somit hat ein typischer Schmierölzusatz, worin (a) 2,6-Di-t-butylphenol ist und die anderen Komponenten
die entsprechenden 2,6-Di-t-butylphenolsulfide sind, folgende
Zusammensetzung:
etwa 62 Gew.-% Komponente (a) etwa 12 Gew.-% Komponente (b)
etwa 19 Gew.-% Komponente (c) etwa 5 Gew.-% Komponente (d) etwa 2 Gew.-% Komponente (e)
Der Schmierölzusatz kann durch Zusammenmischen der einzelnen Komponenten oder zum Beispiel nach
dem in der DE-OS 23 59 396 beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt werden. In der genannten DE-OS wird ein
Verfahren zur Herstellung von sulforierten Alkylphenolen vorgeschlagen, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß
ein AJkylphenol der allgemeinen Formel,
(OH)n,
ίο in welcher R eine aliphatische Gruppe und m und η
ganze Zahlen von 1 bis einschließlich 5 unter der Voraussetzung bedeuten, daß m + π nicht mehr als 6 ergeben,
in Gegenwart eines organischen Amins mit einem pKb von 2 bis 12 mit Schwefel umgesetzt wird. Das
Produkt dieses Verfahrens enthält nicht umgesetztes Phenol zusammen mit Phenolsulfiden, die bei dem erfindungsgemäßen
Gemisch aufgeführt sind. Geeignete organische Amine mit einem pKb zwischen 2 und 12 sind
zum Beispiel Piperidin und Morpholin.
Gewöhnlich enthält die Schmierölzusatzmischung ein Verdünnungsöl, zum Beispiel ein Mineralschmieröl. Andere
geeignete Verdünnungsöle sind synthetische Esterschmieröle. Wenn die Schmierölzusatzmischung nach
dem in der DE-OS 23 59 396 beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt wird, ist das eingesetzte Alkylphenol im allgemeinen
in dem öl gelöst
Die Menge des Verdünnungsöls kann schwanken, aber normalerweise enthält die Öllösung zwischen 10
und 40Gew.-% öl, zum Beispiel zwischen 15 und
25 Gew.-o/o öl.
Die Schmierölzusatzmischung kann einem Schmieröl, insbesondere einem Kurbelgehäuseschmieröl zugesetzt
werden, wobei sie als Antioxidations- und Korrosionsschutzmittel wirkt Sie kann auch in geringen Gewichts-
mengen Treibstoffen wie Benzin oder Diesel zugesetzt werden.
Die Schmieröle können tierische, pflanzliche oder mineralische öle sein, wie beispielsweise Petroleumölfraktionen
von Naphta bis Spindelölen und Schmierölen mit SAE-Werten von 30, 40 oder 50, ferner Rhizinusöl,
Fischöl oder oxydierte Mineralöle.
Geeignete synthetische Esterschmieröle sind beispielsweise Diester wie Dioctyladipat, Dioctylsebacat,
Didecylazelat, Tridecyladipat, Didecylsuccinat, Didecylglutarat oder deren Mischungen. Außerdem können als
synthetische Ester auch Polyester verwendet werden, die durch Umsetzung von Polyalkoholen wie Trimethy-Iolpropan
und Pentaerythritol mit Monocarbonsäuren wie Buttersäure, Capronsäure, Caprylsäure oder Pelargonsäure
unter Bildung der entsprechenden Tri- oder Tetraester hergestellt werden.
Gegebenenfalls können als Basisöle atich komplexe
Ester Einsatz finden, wie beispielsweise solche, die durch Veresterung von Dicarbonsäuren, Glykolen und
einem Alkohol und/oder einer Monocarbonsäure hergestellt werden.
Die sulfurierten Alkylphenole werden den Schmierölen in Mengen von etwa 0,01 bis 10Gew.-% wie
beispielsweise 0,1 bis 5Gew.-°/o, bezogen auf das Ge-
samtgewicht von öl und sulfuriertem Alkylphenol, zugesetzt.
Die Schmieröle können gegebenenfalls andere Zusätze, wie beispielsweise Dispergiermittel wie Polybutensuccinimide,
Viscositätsindex-Verbesserer wie Vinylacetat/Fumarat-Mischpolymcre,
Korrosionsinhibitoren wie beispielsweise Diolestcr oder weitere Antioxidationsmittel
wie beispielsweise phenolische Verbindungen enthalten.
Es wurde eine Schmierölzusatzmischung mit folgender Zusammensetzung hergestellt:

Diese Schmierölzusatzmischung wurde mit dem Ro- is
tary Bomb Oxidation Test (RBOT) - ASTM D 2272 auf seine Wirksamkeit als Antioxidationsmittel in einem
öl getestet. Ferner wurde die Korrosionsschutzmittelwirksamkeit nach dem USA Federal-Testverfahren,
Standard No. 791 Method 5321-1 (abgeändert für eine Laufzeit von 20 Stunden) getestet. Zu Vergleichszwekken
wurden ähnliche Tests mit 2,6-Di-t-butylphenol selbst und den entsprechenden Mono-, Di-, Tri- und
Tetrasulfiden durchgeführt. Ferner wurden mit dem öl allein, das ein typisches 10 W/30, aschenfreies Mineral-Schmieröl
mit einem VI-Verbesserer und einem Dispergierungsmittel war, Tests durchgeführt. Es wurden folgende
Ergebnisse erhalten:

(a) 45 bis 75 Gewichtsprozent eines mit ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffresten substituierten
Phenols, von denen sich einer in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet,
(b) 5 bis 20 Gewichtsprozent eines kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten
Phenoldisulfids, wobei jeder Benzolring ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt, von denen sich einer bei jedem Ring
in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet,
(c) 15 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent eines kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten
Phenoltrisulfids, wobei jeder Benzolring ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt, von denen sich einer bei jedem Ring
in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet, gegebenenfalls
(d) bis zu 10 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gewicht
der Komponenten (a), (b) und (c), eines kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten Phenoltetrasulfids,
wobei jeder Benzolring ein oder zwei Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt, von denen sich
einer bei jedem Ring in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe befindet, und gegebenenfalls
(e) bis zu 5 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Komponenten (a), (b) und (c), eines
kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten Phenolmonosulfids (e), wobei jeder Benzolring ein oder zwei
Kohlenwasserstoffreste besitzt, von denen sich einer bei jedem Ring in Orthostellung zur Hydroxylgruppe
befindet, enthält.
