In US-PS 3362972 wird bereits ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Molybdänsalzen von Carbonsäuren
mit 4 bis 50 Kohlenstoffatomen beschrieben. Hiernach wird beispielsweise Molybdänoxid mit Oxalsäure
in Gegenwart von Hexansäure, der Carbonsäure, die zur Bildung des gewünschten Molybdäncarboxylats
dient, umgesetzt. Man gelangt dabei zu Molybdänhexanoat mit einem Gehalt an Molybdän in kohlenwasserstofflöslicher
Form von etwa 5%. Die Anwesenheit von Oxalsäure wird dabei als unbedingt erforderlich bezeichnet, damit sich das gewünschte
Produkt überhaupt ergibt, wie beispielsweise aus Spalte 2, Zeilen 39 bis 47 dieser PS hervorgeht.
Nach einem anderen Verfahren werden Molybdäncarboxylate hergestellt, indem man Molybdänhexacarbonyl
in Gegenwart eines Überschusses einer Carbonsäure umsetzt und die Reaktionsmischung bis zum
Aufhören der Gasentwicklung erwärmt.
Jedes dieser bekannten Verfahren benötigt schwer zugängliche Ausgangsstoffe, führt zu Carboxylaten
mit niederem Metallgehalt und/oder macht mehrere und gegebenenfalls aufwendige Verfahrensstufen
notwendig. Die Erfindung hat sich daher die Aufgabe gestellt, ein einfaches und mit geringem Aufwand
durchführbares Verfahren zur direkten Herstellung von kohlenwasserstofflöslichen Molybdäncarboxylaten
mit hohem Molybdängehalt bereitzustellen, und diese Aufgabe wird in der in den Ansprüchen angegebenen
Weise erfindungsgemäß gelöst.
Sowohl metallisches Molybdän als auch Molybdänsulfid setzen sich nicht direkt mit einer Carbonsäure
um und bilden daher keine Molybdäncarboxylate. Ferner reagiert keine dieser Verbindungen mit einer
Carbonsäure, wenn man die beiden Ausgangsstoffe lediglich miteinander erwärmt. Es ist deshalb sehr
überraschend, daß durch Umsetzen der angegebenen Molybdänverbindungen mit den genannten Carbonsäuren
nun direkt Molybdäncarboxylate erhält, wenn man die Umsetzung unter Entfernung von Wasser
durchführt. b5
Zu Wasser, das beim vorliegenden Verfahren entfernt wird, gehört Wasser, das von vornherein vorhanden
sein kann, und das Wasser, das während der Um
setzung gebildet wird.
Einzelbeispiele für erfindungsgemäß verwendbare Molybdänverbindungen sind Molybdänhexafluorid,
Molybdänpentachlorid, Molybdändioxid, Molybdäntrioxid, Molybdänsesquioxid, Cäsiummolybdat, Ammoniummolybdat,
Kaliummolvbdat, Calciummolybdat, Ammoniummolybdat oder Molybdänsäure 85% (die beiden letzten Angaben beziehen sich auf dieselbe
Verbindung, in den Spezifikationen für Molybdänsäure 85 % ist jedoch gewöhnlich ein etwas niedriger
MoOj-Gehalt angegeben), wobei Molybdäntrioxid und insbesondere Ammoniummolybdat (Molybdänsäure
85%) besonders bevorzugt werden.
Die verwendbaren aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren können niedere aliphatische Säuren mit 2 bis 6
Kohlenstoffatomen wie Essigsäure, Propionsäure, Buttersäure, Isobuttersäure, Valeriansäure oder Capronsäure,
mittlere aliphatische Monocarbonsäuren mit 7 bis 11 Kohlenstoffatomen wie Heptansäure, Octansäure
oder Decansäure, und höhere aliphatische Carbonsäuren mit 12 bis 35 Kohlenstoffatomen wie
Dodecansäure, Hexadecansäure, Docosansäure, Tetracosansäure oder Tricosansäure, sein. Mittlere aliphatische
Monocarbonsäuren, wie Octansäure, werden dabei bevorzugt.
Die Umsetzung der Molybdänverbindung mit der aliphatischen Monocarbonsäure, kann in Gegenwart
eines inerten Lösungsmittels durchgeführt werden, und ein solches Lösungsmittel wird vor allem dann
verwendet, wenn die jeweils eingesetzte Carbonsäure bei der Reaktionstemperatur nicht flüssig ist. Gewöhnlich
dient jedoch die verwendete aliphatische Monocarbonsäure gleichzeitig auch als Lösungsmittel.
Die Entfernung von Wasser ist für den Erfolg des vorliegenden Verfahrens unerläßlich. Wird ohne Entfernung
von Wasser gearbeitet, dann entsteht praktisch kein Molybdäncarboxylat. Die Art und Weise,
in der das Wasser entfernt wird, ist dabei jedoch nicht von Bedeutung. Es können hierzu daher beliebige bekannte
Maßnahmen angewandt werden. Beispielsweise kann das Wasser durch Verwendung von Entwässerungsmitteln
wie Calciumchlorid entfernt werden, oder man kann hierzu vorzugsweise auch ein azeotropes Mittel verwenden. Es läßt sich jedes azeotrope
Mittel einsetzen, das selbst reaktionsinert ist. Die bevorzugten azeotropen Mittel sind Benzol oder
Aralkylverbindungen, zum Beispiel niedere Alkylbenzole mit 1 bis 3 Alkylgruppen und 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen
je Alkylgruppen wie Äthylbenzol, Xylol oder Cumol, oder irgendein anderer geradkettiger
oder verzweigter Kohlenwasserstoff, beispielsweise Alkane mit 5 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen wie Hexan,
Octan oder Decan. Für die erfindungsgemäßen Zwecke wird vorzugsweise ein niederes Alkylbenzol
wie Äthylbenzol verwendet. Gewünschtenfalls kann das azeotrope Mittel auch als Lösungsmittel in dem
System dienen, oder man kann bei Bedarf auch die azeotropen Mittel zusätzlich zu einem Lösungsmittel
verwenden. Die erforderliche Menge an anzeotropen Mitteln hängt von der zu entfernenden Wassermenge
ab und ändert sich von System zu System. Sie kann jedoch leicht durch Vorversuche bestimmt werden.
Die Umsetzung wird vorzugsweise bei einer Temperatur von 150 bis 25O0C, und insbesondere von
190 bis 225° C, vorgenommen. Die Reaktionstemperatur
hängt dabei neben anderen Faktoren insofern auch von der verwendeten Monocarbonsäure ab, als
sie bei oder unter dem Siedepunkt der Carbonsäure
bei dem angewandten Druck liegen soll. Die Reaktionsdauer ist nicht kritisch, und die Reaktion wird
so lange durchgeführt, bis die Umsetzung praktisch beendet ist. Die Umsetzung kann zweckmäßig in einer
Zeit von 2 bis 48 Stunden oder darüber erfolgen. Die Konzentrationen der Reaktionsteilnehmer sind ebenfalls
nicht kritisch und können entsprechend den im Einzelfall angewandten Reaktionsteilnehmern und
Bedingungen eingestellt werden.
a) Ein 250-ccm-Kolben, der mit einem Thermometer,
einem Rückflußkühler und einer Dean-Stark-Falle ausgerüstet ist, wird mit einer Mischung
aus 60 g Octansäure, 17,7 g »Molybdänsäure, 85%« und 30 g Äthylbenzol beschickt.
Der Kolben wird dann in ein ölbad gestellt, das bei einer konstanten Temperatur von 200s C gehalten
wird. Der Kolbeninhalt wird bei Atmosphärendruck 48 Stunden unter Rückfluß gehalten,
anschließend zur Entfernung von gegebenenfalls vorhandenen ungelösten Feststoffen
filtriert und liefert ein Produkt mit 15,2 Gew.% Molybdän.
Wenn die vorstehend beschriebene Umsetzung bei 100° C, 150° C, 250° C oder 300° C so
lange durchgeführt wird, bis sich kein Wasser mehr abscheidet, werden ähnliche Ergebnisse
erhalten.
b) Ebenso wird bei Wiederholung der Arbeitsweise
a) mit einer äquivalenten Menge Molybdäntrioxid an Stelle von Molybdänsäure Molybdänoctanoat
mit einem Gehalt von 3,4 Gew.% Molybdän erhalten.
Wenn eine äquivalente Menge Molybdänhexafluorid, Molybdänpentachlorid, Molybdändioxid,
Molybdänsesquioxid, Kaliummolybdat oder Calciummolybdat an Stelle von Molybdäntrioxid nach der
vorstehend beschriebenen Arbeitsweise umgesetzt ίο wird, werden ähnliche Ergebnisse erhalten.
Wenn die Arbeitsweise des Beispiels mit einer äquivalenten Menge Molybdäntrioxid an Stelle von
Molybdänsäure wiederholt und die Umsetzung so durchgeführt wird, daß 1 1 Ammoniak pro Stunde
durch die Reaktionsmischung geleitet wird, werden ähnliche Ergebnisse erhalten.
Ebenso werden ähnliche Ergebnisse erzielt, wenn die vorstehend beschriebene Umsetzung unter Verwendung
von Octan, einem Xylolisomeren oder Cumol an Stelle von Äthylbenzol wiederholt wird.
Bei Durchführung der Umsetzung mit Valerian-
säure, Naphthensäure, Dodecansäure oder Cyclohexansäure an Stelle von Octansäure werden Molybdänvalerat,
Molybdännapthenat, Molybdändodecanoat bzw. Molybdäncyclohexanoat erhalten.
Wenn die Arbeitsweise a) mit metallischem Molybdän oder Molybdänsulfid an Stelle von Molybdänsaure
durchgeführt wird, wird ein Octanoat mit einem Gehalt von 0,04 bzw. 0,02 Gew.% Molybdän erhalten.
Claims (2)
- Patentansprüche:3. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Molybdäncarboxylaten aliphatischer Monocarbonsäuren mit 2 bis 35 Kohlenstoffatomen durch Umsetzen eines Molybdänoxids, Molybaänhalogenids, Alkalimolybdats, Erdalkalimolybdats, Ammoniummolybdats oder einer Mischung aus einem Molybdänoxid, Molybdänhalogenid, Alkalimolybdat oder Erdalkalimolybdat und Ammoniak mit einer aliphatischen Monocarbonsäure mit 2 bis 35 Kohlenstoffatomen bei einer Temperatur von 100 bis 3OO'°C, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man das vorhandene Wasser während der Umsetzung entfernt.
- 2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man das Wasser azeotrop entfernt.10
