Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft die Verwendung von
Metallsalzen von Phosphinsäurederivaten der Formel I

Das Metallkation Me bedeutet z.B. ein unsubstituiertes
Metall, wie Lithium, Natrium, Kalium, Kupfer, Magnesium, Calcium.
Zink, Strontium, Cadmium, Barium, Aluminium, Titan, Zirkon, Zinn,

Vanadium, Antimon, Chrom, Molybdän, Mangan, Eisen und Kobalt
oder es kann ein Metall sein, bei dem ein Teil der freien . Valenzen durch organische oder anorganische Reste, d.h. Anionen
abgesättigt ist. Derartige organische Reste sind z.B. Acyloxygruppen,
die sich von Carbonsäure!mit 1 — 30, vorzugsweise mit
2 - 18 Kohlenstoffatomen ableiten. Es sind dies beispielsweise
die Carbonsäureanionen der Essig-, Laurin-, Stearin-, Benzoe-,
Malon- und der Bernsteinsäure, das Anion von Phenolaten und alkylsubstituierten Phenolaten, von Alkyl- und Aryl- sulfaten
und -sulfonaten, von Alkyl- und Aryl-,phosphaten und -phosphonaten.
Geeignete anorganische Anionen sind das Chlorid-, Bromid-, Jodid-·,
Fluorid-, Nitrat-, Cyanid-, Cyanat-, Rhodanat- und Sulfation.
Besonders Dialkylzinn und Nickelmonoacetat werden als Metallkomplexe
bevorzugt.
Die Phenylalkylgruppe der Phosphinsäure ist im aromatischen Kern durch eine Hydroxylgruppe und durch eine'Cz=O) oder
zwei Cz = 1 bis 6) niedere Alkylgruppen substituiert. Die
Stellung dieser Substituenten in der Phenylgruppe kann verschieden
sein. Die beste Antioxydanswirkung des Phosphinsäurederivats wird dann erhalten, wenn eine 3,5-Dialkyl~4-hydroxy~
phenylalkyl-Gruppierung vorhanden ist, also wenn beispielsweise
ein 3,5-Di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzylphosphinat verwendet wird.
Andere Gruppierungen wie z.B. 2-Hydroxy-5-alkylphenyl~alkyl
gehören aber auch zu den erfindungsgemäss zu verwendenden Verbindungen.
Die Alkylhydroxyphenylgruppe ist durch eine gerad- oder
verzweigtkettige Alkylengruppe mit 1-4 Kohlenstoffatomen,
wobei die Anzahl der Kohlenstoffatome durch y definiert ist, an
die Phosphinsäure gebunden.

Ausser der Alkylhydroxyphenylalkylgruppe trägt das
Phosphpratom der Phosphinsäure einen Kohlenwasserstoffrest mit 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen. Dies kann ein aliphatischer Kohlenwasser
Stoffrest, insbesondere ein niederer Alkylrest, ein cycloaliphatischer
Kohlenwasserstoffrest, wie Cyclopentyl oder Cyclohexyl
oder ein aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoffrest, wie Phenyl, Kaphthyl, Xylyl, sein*
Der in der Beschreibung und den Ansprüchen verwendete
Ausdruck "Alkyl" bedeutet eine verzweigt- oder geradkettige
gesättigte Kohlenwasserstoffgruppe mit 1 - 12 Kohlenstoffatomen. Wird in diesem Zusammenhang der Ausdruck "nieder" verwendet, so
enthält die Kohlenwasserstoffkette 1-6 Kohlenstoffatome,
üolche Alkylgruppen sind beispielsweise die Methyl-, Aethyl-,
Propyl-, Isopropyl-, Butyl-, tert.Butyl-, Pentyl-, Isopentyl-,
Hexyl-, Octyl-, tert.Octyl-, Decyl- und die Dodecyl-gruppe.
Bevorzugt wird die erfindungsgemässe Verwendung von

Die erfindungsgemässe Verwendung der Verbindungen der
Formel I ergibt insbesondere bei synthetischen Polymerisaten,
wie z.B. bei Poly-a-olefinen des Polyäthylen-.und des PoIypropylentyps
eine Verminderung der Neigung der Polymerisate zu verspröden und sich zu verfärben, wenn sie dem Licht ausgesetzt
werden, sowie eine bessere Anfärbbarkeit- Die erfindungsgemäss
verwendeten Verbindungen können in das Polymerisat während den üblichen Methoden der Verarbeitung, beispielsweise
bei der Heisswalzung eingearbeitet werden, wonach die Mischung zu Filmen, Fasern, Faden oder Formen extrudiert, verpresst oder
geblasen wird. Die Metallsalze der erfindungsgemäss verwendeten
Phosphinsäurederivaten besitzen ferner gute hitzestabilisierende Eigenschaften. Sie stabilisieren deshalb das Polymerisat gegen
Abbau durch hohe Temperaturen, wie sie bei der Weiterverarbeitung auftreten. Darüberhinaus können Polymerisate, die die erfindungs-gemäss
verwendeten Salze enthalten, entweder direkt nach dem Einarbeiten des Salzes oder auch nach der Herstellung der Garne oder
Gewebe gefärbt werden. Das Polymerisat wird durch die Gegenwart dieser Metallsalze, sowohl vor und nach dem Färben stabilisierte
Zusätzliche Antioxydantien, die normalerweise zugesetzt werden}
sind nicht nötig, obwohl ein weiterer Zusatz von bekannten Stabilisatorenj Additiven oder synergistisch wirkenden Substanzen
die Wirksamkeit noch erhöhen kann* Die gefärbten, erfindungsgemässe
Metallsalze enthaltenden Polymerisate sind wärme-, licht-
und lösüngsmittelbeständig, Eigenschäften die beim Waschen und
bei der Trockenreinigung wichtig sind. · . .

Die erfindungsgemäss erhältlichen StoffZusammenstellungen
können nach Verfahren gefärbt werden, die sich sonst für viele Polymere nicht eignen. Die Färbebedingungen hängen natürlich von
den speziell verwendeten Farbstoffen ab. Im allgemeinen ist die Art des Farbstoffs nicht eingeschränkt. So kann z.B. jeder der
vielen bekannten Metallkomplexfarbstoffe verwendet werden. Man
kann durch Variation der Metallkationen der erfindungsgemäss verwendeten Verbindungen und durch die in die Polymeren eingearbeitete
Menge dieser Verbindungen mit einem bestimmten Farbstoff verschiedene Effekte' erreichen. Im allgemeinen wird 0,05
bis 10, vorzugsweise.0,1 bis 5,0 Gewichtsprozent der Verbindungen der Formel I verwendet, wobei diese Menge aber nicht kritisch ist.
Neben dem bevorzugten Polypropylen können die erfindungsgemäss
verwendbaren Verbindungen auch in andere schwer färbbare synthetische, organische homo- oder copolymere Substanzen eingearbeitet werden, zum Beispiel Vinylharze, die durch Polymerisation
von Vinylhalogenid oder durch Copolymerisation von Vinylhalogenid
mit anderen ungesättigten polymerjsierbaren Verbindungen, wie Vinylester, α,ß-ungesättigte Säuren, α,ß-ungesättigte Ester,
ajP-ungesattig-te^Ketone, α, β-ungesättigte Aldehyde und ungesättigte
Kohlenwasserstoffe hergestellt werden? Poly-oc-olefine
wie Polymethylen, Polyäthylen, Polypropylen, Polybutylen, Polyisopren;
Polyurethane wie sie aus mehrwertigen Alkoholen und organischen Polyisocyanaten hergestellt werden; Polyamide wie
Polyhexamethylenadipamät; Polyester wie Polymejthylenterephthalate;
Polycarbonate; Polyazetate; Polystyrole; PoIyäthylenoxyd
und Folyacryle wie Polyacrylnitril, sowie Mischungen

der erwähnten Polymeren, wie hochschlagfestes Polystyrol, das(
Copolymere des Butadiens und Styrols enthält und das Copolymerisat.aus
Acrylonitril, Butadien und/oder Styrol. Natürlich können die erfindungsgemäss verwendbaren Verbindungen der
Formel I, wenn die Polymerisate nicht gefärbt werden sollen, auch nur zur Stabilisierung verwendet werden=
Auch andere organische Stoffe, die nicht gefärbt werden,
können somit durch die erfindungsgemässe Verwendung der Phosphinsaurederivate
der Formel I stabilisiert werden, wie z.B.
w Schmieröle aliphatischer Ester, wie Azelainsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester,
Pentaerythrit-tetracapronsäureester5 tierische
und pflanzliche OeIe, z.B. Leinöl, Fett, Talg, Schweinefett, Erdnussöl, Lebertran, Rizinusöl, Palmkernöl, Baumwollsaatöl;
Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Benzin, Dieselöl, Mineralöl, Heizöl, Schneidöle, Wachse, Harze, Fettsäuren, Lacke, Seifen.
Wie vorstehend erwähnt besitzen die erfindungsgemäss
verwendeten Metallsalze und Komplexe wertvolle Eigenschaften,
indem sie organische Stoffe gegen Oxydation, gegen thermische
^ Zersetzung und gegen schädliche Lichteinflüsse, insbesondere
gegen Ultraviolettstrahlung, schützen und gleichzeitig die Färbbarkeit von Polymerisaten verbessern.
Die erfindungsgemäss verwendbaren Verbindungen werden
durch Behandlung von Alkylhydroxyphenylphosphinsäuren mit einer das Metallsalz oder komplexe Metallsalz bildenden Verbindung,
beispielsweise mit Natriumhydroxyd, Lithiumhydroxyd oder Kaliumhydroxyd
hergestellt» Auch kann, besonders bei Metallkomplexen
oder bei anderen als den Alkalimetallen, eine doppelte Umsetzung bei der Herstellung der Salze der Phosphinsaurederivate angewandt

werden. So wird beispielsweise Ratriumsalz mit Nickelchlorid
behandelt; werden dabei äquimolaren Mengen eingesetzt, so erhält
man ein Mckel~[phosphinat]-chlorid, das dann mit einer
Alkallmetallseife, z.B. mit Eatriumpropionat. umgesetzt wird
und das entsprechende phosphinsaure Mckelpropionat bzw. eine
andere Seife des Nickelphosphinats ergibt. Wird eine zwei- oder mehrfache molare Menge .des Natriumphosphinats verwendet,
so erhält man das Niekel-diphösphinat. Auf ähnliche Weise erhält
man durch die Verwendung anderer Halogenide, wie Aluminiumchlorid oder Bariumchlorid, das entsprechende Metallderivat.
Iiach einer weiteren Herstellungsmethode wird die freie Phosphinsaure
und ein Metall oder ein Metalloxyd, beispielsweise Zinn-II-oxyd, umgesetzt.
Die als Ausgangsmaterial benötigten Phosphinsaurederivate
können nach bekannten Methoden hergestellt werden. Vorteilhaft setzt, man ein Alkylhydroxyphenyl-alkylhalogenid
und einen Alkyl- oder Arylphosphonsäure-diphenyl- oder dialkylester
auf bekannte Weise um. Der so erhaltene Phosphinsäureester wird dann verseift, beispielsweise mit einer wässrigalkoholischen Alkylihydroxydlösung, wobei man das entsprechende
Salz der freien Phosphinsaure erhält. Eine weitere, neue
Methode zur Herstellung der Phosphinsäurederivate ist die Umsetzung
eines Alkylhydroxyphenylalkylhalogenids mit einem Phosphindichlorid in Gegenwart von Aluminiumchlorid und anschliessender
Hydrolyse des dabei gebildeten Produkts. Beispielsweise ergibt die Umsetzung von 3,5-Di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl
chlorid mit Phenylpho sp hin di chlor id in Gegenwart von Aluminiümchlorid und die anschliessende Hydrolyse mit

Wasser die (3,5-Di-tert.butyi-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinsäure.
Die Herstellung des erfindungsgemäss verwendbaren Salzes erfolgt dann wie zuvor beschrieben.
Die Erfindung wird durch die folgenden Beispiele näher
erläutert. Teile und Prozente bedeuten darin, sofern nichts
anderes angegeben wird, Gewichtsteile und -prozente. Die Temperaturen
sind in Celsiusgraden angegeben.

0,5 Gew. % der erfindungsgeniässen Metallsalze oder
Komplexe werden in Polypropylen verarbeitet und dieses als 0,65 mm dicke Platten in einem Luftumwälzungsofen bei 150°
einem Alterungstest unterworfen, wobei die Zeit bis zur Versprödung
festgestellt wird. Es werden für die mit den folgenden Salzen oder Komplexen stabilisierten Polypropylene folgende
Zeiten erhalten:
Natrium-(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat

0,5 Gew.% der erfindungsgemässen Metallsalze oder Komplexe
werden in Polypropylen verarbeitet und dieses als 0,65 mm dicke Platten in einem Fadeometer mit einem Kohlenbogenlicht
belichtet, wobei die Zeit bis zum Sprödewerden bestimmt wird. Es wird für das mit den folgenden Salzen oder Komplexen stabilisierte
Polypropylen folgende Zeiten erreicht:

Beispiel 3 ■
Nickel-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat
]-acetat wird in einer Menge von 0,5 Gew.# "zu Polypropylenpulver
gemischt und bei 230° in Tabletten gepresst. Diese werden zu 0,08 mm starken Einzelfasern versponnen und nach dem
Spinnen viermal heiss verstreckt.. Die Fasern werden dann auf weissen Baumwollstoff aufgenäht und auf ihre Waschechtheit
geprüft.
Der Waschtest ist der durch die "American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists" (Test method 61 - 1961 T,
condition IV A) empfohlene, wobei mit Detergentien gewaschen und dann eine Stunde bei 120° getrocknet wird, wobei jeder
Wasch- und Trocknungsvorgang ein Zyklus ist. Die Polypropylenprobe,
die 0^5 % Nickel-[(3,5-di-tert*butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]-aeetat
enthält, Überdauert 33 Zyklen, die unstabilisierten Polypropylenfasern jedoch nur 4 Zyklen.
Eine Mischung von linearem Polyäthylen mit 0,1 Gew.%
Nickel-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]
wird im Spritzgussverfahren zu Stäben verarbeitet, die dann in einen Luftumwälzungsofen bei 120° gegeben werden. Xm Gegensatz
zum gänzlichen Verlust der Zugfestigkeit der Kontrollstäbe -.
die aus Polyäthylen und 0,1 % butyliertem Hydroxytoluol, ein
handelsübliches Antioxydans, hergestellt wurden, innerhalb von zwei Wochen, behält das Polyäthylen,: das das Nickelphosphinat
enthält, seine Zugfestigkeit für eine wesentlich längere Zeit.

Geformtes Nylon 6, das 0,5 Gew.% Aluminium-tris-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hy.droxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat
jenthält, wird im Fadeometer belichtet, wobei durch den Zusatz des Nickelsalzes die Vergilbung wesentlich verzögert wird.
Ferner behalten Polyamid-Stäbe die aus einer Mischung
von Nylon 6 und 0,5 Gew.% Aluminium-tris-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]
hergestellt werden, ihre Zugfestigkeit bei 100° über eine wesentlich längere Zeitdauer
hin bei.
Eine Polyvinylchloridinischung, die 100 Teile Vinylchloridharz
(Goodyear Geon 103 EP), 2 Teile Dibutylzinnmaleat und 0,5
Teile Stearinsäure enthält, wird zu Platten geformt und in einen
Luftumwälzungsofen einer Temperatur von 180° ausgesetzt. Diese PVC-Mischung wird nach 160 Minuten gelb und nach 200 Minuten schwarz»
Im Gegensatz dazu bleiben die Platten viel länger klar, wenn der
obigen PVC-Mischung noch 1,0 Gew.% Nickel-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.
butyl-4-hydroxyhenzyl)-benzolphosphinat] beigegeben werden»
Eine Probe die aus einem Acrylnitril-butadien- styrolterpolymerisat
und 1,0 Gew.# Nickel-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat}
besteht, bleibt bei 120° viel

länger unverfärbt als ein Polymerisat das den Stabilisator nicht enthält.
Polyurethan, das 1,0 Gew.% Nickel-[(3,5-di-tert,butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]-acetat
enthält, ist gegen Belichtung mit UV- und IR-Strahlen sowie Fluoreszenzlicht beständiger
als nicht stabilisiertes Polyurethan.
a) Stabilisiertes Benzin wird dadurch hergestellt, dass
man 0,1 Gew.$ Dibutylzinn-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)
-benzolphosphinat ] in Benzin, das keine Zusätze enthält, löst. .
b) Stabilisiertes Sehweinefett wird so hergestellt, dass
man 0,1 Gew.% Nickel-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]
in das Fett einverleibt.
c) Stabilisiertes hochtemperaturbeständiges aliphatisches Esterschmieröl wird dadurch erhalten, dass man 1 Gew.% Aluminiumtris-[(3,5-di-tertο
butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat] mit
Diisoamyladipat gründlich verrührt. .,
d) Heptanal wird durch Auflösen von.0,1 Gew.% Zinn-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat],
im frisch destillierten Aldehyd, stabilisiert.

e) Paraffinwachs wird durch Einverleiben von 0,1 Gew.% Dibutylzinn-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]
stabilisiert.
Nickel-bis-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]
wird Polypropylen in einer Menge von 1,6 Gew.% durch Schmelzen einverleibt; danach enthält das Polypropylen
0,12 % Nickel. Ein so erhaltener ca. 0,2 mm dicker Polypropylenfilm
wird dann mit dem orangen Farbstoff der Formel
C-N=N-CH N
gefärbt.
Verwendet man im obigen Beispiel 0,9 Gew.^ Nickel-[(3,5-di-tert.butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-benzolphosphinat]-acetat,
so erhält man ebenfalls einen gut färbbaren Film.
Beide Polypropylenfolien lassen sich ferner z.B, mit den
folgenden Farbstoffen: Poly Dark Blue 2 BM, Poly Brilliant Yellow GM, Poly Scarlet RBM, Poly -Green BM und Poly Brilliant Violet
3 RM, gut färben. / .
Im Gegensatz dazu kann Polypropylen, welches die erfindungsgemässen
Salze nicht enthält, nicht gut gefärbt werden.
