in welcher η gleich 1, 2 oder 3 ist und in welcher R1,
verwendet, in welcher R ein einwertiger organischer Rest ist.
Die organischen Reste R1 bzw. R, die an das Phosphoratom über ein eigenes C-Atom gebunden
sind, sind ein-, zwei- oder dreiwertige aliphatische, cycloaliphatische, Aryl-, Aralkyl- oder Aralkenylreste
oder solche Reste, bei denen 1 C-Atom durch ein Heteroatom, insbesondere 1 N-Atom, ersetzt ist. Die
genannten aliphatischen Reste sind vorzugsweise ein-, zwei- oder dreiwertige Alkan- oder Α^εηΓεδίσ
mit bis zu 12 C-Atomen, z. B. Vinyl-, Methyl-, Äthyl-, Propyl-, Butyl-, Hexyl-, Octyl-, Decyl-, Dodecyl-,
Äthylen-, Trimethylen-, Propylen-, Tetramethylen-, Hexamethylen- und 1,3,5- Pentylrest. Die genannten
cycloaliphatischen Reste sind vorzugsweise einwertige Cyclohexyl- und C-Methylcyclohexylreste. Die
genannten Aralkyl- oder Aralkenylreste sind vorzugsweise einwertig und monocyclisch, z. B. Benzyl-,
/9-Phenyläthyl- oder /J-Phenylvinylrest. Die genannten
Arylreste sind vorzugsweise ein-, zwei- oder dreiwertige Benzol- oder Naphthalinreste, z. B. Phenyl-,
Tolyi-, 1- oder 2-Naphthyl-, 1,4-Naphthylen-, 1,3-
oder 1,4-Phenylen- und 1,5,8-Naphthylenrest. Solche
Arylreste können außerdem andere Substituenten, wie Chloratome, enthalten. Als Beispiele für organische
Reste, bei denen 1 C-Atom durch 1 N-Atom ersetzt ist, sind 5- oder 6gliedrige stickstoffhaltige
heterocyclische Ringe, wie der Piperidinorest, und Alkanreste, bei denen 1 C-Atom durch 1 N-Atom
ersetzt ist, wie der Alkyl-NH-Alkylenrest, beispielsweise
das /?-(Äthylamino)-äthyl, zu erwähnen.
Beispiele für Phosphonsäuren, die erfindungsgemäß verwendet werden können, sind Methylphosphonsäure,
Äthylphosphonsäure, n-Propylphosphonsäure, Cyclohexylphosphonsäure, Phenylphosphonsäure,
/S-Phenyläthylphosphonsäure, p-Tolylphosphonsäure,
p-Chlorphenylphosphonsäure, 1,4-Butandiphosphonsäure,
1,5-Pentandiphosphonsäure, 1,4-Cyclohexandiphosphonsäure,
p-Benzoldiphosphonsäure, p-Xylylendiphosphonsäure, 1,3,5-Pentantriphosphonsäure
und Naphthalin-S.o^-triphosphonsäure.
Bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren wird das Polyamid in Mischung mit der Phosphonsäure vorzugsweise
auf eine über dem Schmelzpunkt des Polyamids liegende Temperatur erhitzt, bis die gewünschte
Erhöhung des Molekulargewichts des Polyamids erreicht ist. Man arbeitet insbesondere unter Luftausschluß,
beispielsweise in Gegenwart von einem inerten Gas, wie Stickstoff. Das Verfahren kann diskontinuierlich,
beispielsweise in einem verschlossenen Gefäß, oder auch kontinuierlich, beispielsweise in
einem Schmelzextruder, wie z. B. in den britischen Patentschriften 886 635, 924 630 und 964 822 beschrieben,
durchgeführt werden.
Polyamide der angegebenen allgemeinen Strukturformel sind Polykondensationsprodukte im wesentlichen
gleichmolarer Mengen eines Alkylendiamins, das mindestens 2 C-Atome zwischen den Aminogruppen
enthält, z. B. von Trimethylendiamin, Tetramethylendiamin, Pentamethylendiamin, Octamethylendiamin
und vor allem Hexamethylendiamin, mit einer Alkylen- oder Phenylendicarbonsäure, die mindestens
2 C-Atome zwischen den Carbonsäuregruppen enthält, z. B. mit Terephthalsäure, Isophthalsäure,
Sebacinsäure, Octadecandicarbonsäure, Suberinsäure, Azeleinsäure, Undecandicarbonsäure, Glutarsäure,
Pimelinsäure und vor allem mit Adipinsäure.
Gegebenenfalls können diese Polyamide auch herkömmliche Zusatzstoffe, wie Mattierungsmittel, Füllstoffe,
Lichtstabilisierungsmittel und Wärmestabilisierungsmittel enthalten.
Polyamide, in welche das Molekulargewicht erfindungsgemäß erhöht worden ist, eignen sich zur Verwendung
in Reifencorden sowie zur Herstellung von Preßpulvern oder Strangpreßlingen.
In den nachfolgenden Beispielen und Vergleichsversuchen sind alle Mengenangaben auf das Gewicht
bezogen.
50 Teile Polyhexamethylenadipinamid mit einer relativen Viskosität von 35,2 (gemessen in 8,4%iger
Lösung in 90%iger Ameisensäure bei 25° C) und 0,36 Teile Cyclohexylphosphonsäure wurden 10 Minuten
unter einer Stickstoffatmosphäre auf 290° C erhitzt. Das entstandene Polymere hatte eine relative Viskosität
von 64,3.
Der nachstehenden Tabelle sind weitere Beispiele zu entnehmen, bei welchen jeweils 50 Teile PoIyhexamethylenadipinamid
mit einer relativen Viskosität von 35,2 mit den in der 2. Spalte der Tabelle angegebenen Mengen der verwendeten Phosphonsäure
unter den in der 3. Spalte angegebenen Bedingungen erhitzt worden sind. Der 4. Spalte der Tabelle
sind die jeweiligen relativen Viskositäten der entstandenen Polymeren zu entnehmen.

*) Die relativen Viskositäten der Polyamide gemäß den Beispielen 3 und 5 waren zu hoch, um gemessen zu werden.
Vergleichsversuche
a) Die Wiederholung des Beispiels 1 ohne Zusatz der Cyclohexylphosphonsäure führte zu einem
Polymeren mit einer relativen Viskosität von 41,0.
b) Jeweils 50 Teile Polyhexamethylenadipinamid mit einer relativen Viskosität von 34,7 (bestimmt in
einer 8,4%igen Lösung des Polymeren in 90%iger Ameisensäure bei 25° C) wurden mit 0,9 Teilen
Phenylphosphonsäure bzw. mit 0,9 Teilen Orthophosphorsäure 10 Minuten auf 290° C unter einer
Stickstoffatmosphäre erhitzt. Nach Abkühlen und Schnitzeln wies das Polymere im Falle der Verwendung
der Phenylphosphonsäure eine relative Viskosität von 44,1 auf, während die Behandlung
mit der Orthophosphonsäure zu einem Produkt mit der relativen Viskosität von nur 26,7 führte.
Claims (2)
1. Verfahren zur Molekulargewichtserhöhung von Polyamiden, die sich wiederholende Einheiten
der allgemeinen Strukturformel
— CO — NH-X — NH- CO-X1 —
in welcher X einen Alkylenrest und X1 einen Alkylen-
oder Phenylenrest bedeutet, enthalten, durch Erhitzen der Polyamide in Gegenwart von 0,1
bis 5 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Polyamid, einer Säure des Phosphors, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß man Phosphonsäuren der allgemeinen Formel

verwendet, in welcher η gleich 1, 2 oder 3 ist und
in welcher R1, je nach dem Wert von n, einen ein-, zwei- oder dreiwertigen organischen Rest
darstellt.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man Phosphonsäuren der allgemeinen
Formel

verwendet, in welcher R ein einwertiger organischer Rest ist.
Es ist bekannt, das Molekulargewicht eines Polyamids, das sich wiederholende Einheiten der allgemeinen
Strukturformel
— CO — NH-X-NH- OC-X1 —
in welcher X einen Alkylenrest und X1 einen Alkylen- oder Phenylenrest bedeutet, enthält, durch Erhitzen
in Gegenwart von 0,1 bis 5 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Polyamid, einer Säure des Phosphors zu
erhöhen.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß eine wesentlich größere Molekulargewichtserhöhung erreicht werden
kann, wenn man an Stelle der bislang verwendeten Säuren des Phosphors bestimmte Phosphonsäuren
verwendet.
Gemäß der Erfindung verwendet man bei der angegebenen Arbeitsweise zur Molekulargewichtserhöhung
von Polyamiden der angegebenen Art Phosphonsäuren der allgemeinen Formel

je nach dem Wert von n, einen ein-, zwei- oder dreiwertigen organischen Rest darstellt.
Bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren werden vorzugsweise Phosphonsäuren der allgemeinen Formel
