Die erfindungsgemäß verwendbaren mehrbasischen Carbonsäuren schließen aliphatische, aromatische
und cycloaliphatische Dicarbonsäuren ein, wie Oxalsäure, Malonsäure, Bernsteinsäure, Glutarsäure, Adipinsäure,
Pimelinsäure, Suberinsäure, Azelainsäure, Sebacinsäure, Alkylbernsteinsäuren, Alkenylbernsteinsäuren,
Maleinsäure, Fumarsäure, Itaconsäure, Citraconsäure, Mesaconsäure, Glutaconsäure, Muconsäure,
Äthylidenmalonsäure, Isopropylidenmalonsäure, Allylmalonsäure, 1,2-Cyclohexandicarbonsäure,
l^-Cyclohexandicarbonsäure, 2-Carboxy-2-methylcyclohexanessigsäure,
Phthalsäure, Isophthalsäure, Terephthalsäure.l.e-Naphthalindicarbonsäure.S-Carboxyzimtsäure,
1,2-Naphthalindicarbonsäure, Tetrahydrophthalsäure und Tetrachlorphthalsäure. Bevorzugte
aliphatische Dicarbonsäuren sind aliphatische zweibasische Säuren mit 5 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen.
Andere brauchbare Carbonsäuren sind Tricarbonsäuren, wie z. B. 1,1,5-Pentatricarbonsäure,
1,2,4-Hexantricarbonsäure, 2-Propyl-l,2,4-pentantricarbonsäure,
S-Octen-S^.o-tricarbonsäure, 1,2,3-Propantricarbonsäure,
1,2,4-Benzoltricarbonsäure. Es können auch Mischungen von mehrbasischen Carbonsäuren
verwendet werden. Geeignet sind auch die Säureester, mehrbasischen Ester von mehrbasischen
Carbonsäuren, die Carboxylendgruppen enthalten, hergestellt aus einer mehrbasischen Carbonsäure
oder deren Anhydrid und einem mehrwertigen Alkohol. Mehrwertige Alkohole, die mit allen obengenannten
mehrbasischen Carbonsäuren oder deren Anhydriden umgesetzt werden können, um in bekannter
Weise die genannten mehrbasischen Carbonsäuren herzustellen, die Carboxylendgruppen enthalten,
sind z. B. Äthylenglykol, Diäthylenglykol, Triäthylenglykol.TetraäthylenglykoI,
1,2-Propylenglykol, 1,3-Propylenglykol,
Dipropylenglykol, Tripropylenglykol, 1,2-Butylenglykol, 1,4-Butandiol, 1,5-Pentandiol,
2,4-Pentandiol, 2,2-Dimethyl-l,3-propandiol, 1,5-Hexandiol, 2,5-Hexandiol, 1,6-Hexandiol, 3-Methyl-1,5-pentandiol,
2-Methyl-2,5-pentandioI, 3-Methyl-2,5-pentandiol, 1,4-Hexandiol, 2,2-Diäthyl-l,3-propandiol,

Bevorzugte mehrbasische Carbonsäureester, die Carboxylendgruppen enthalten, sind solche, die aus
Dicarbonsäuren oder Dicarbonsäureanhydriden, wie wie sie oben aufgezählt wurden, und zwei-, drei-
oder vierwertigen Alkoholen erhalten worden sind.
Die Verhältnisse, in denen die Dicarbonsäuren oder die Dicarbonsäureanhydride mit mehrwertigen Alkoholen
der oben genannten Art umgesetzt werden können, sind auf solche begrenzt, die Carboxylendgruppen
liefern. So muß die Dicarbonsäure oder das Dicarbonsäureanhydrid mit dem mehrwertigen Alkohol
in größeren als äquivalenten Mengen umgesetzt werden, und es muß darauf geachtet werden, daß,
falls drei- und vierfunktionelle Reaktionsteilnehmer gewählt werden, keine Gelbildung auf Grund von
vernetzten Polyestern eintritt. Es wurde festgestellt, daß geeignete Polyester hergestellt werden können,
vorausgesetzt, daß das Molverhältnis den in der folgenden Tabelle 1 angeführten Werten entspricht.

Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren wird durchgeführt, indem im allgemeinen eine Mischung aus dem mit
niederen Alkylgruppen substituierten oder nicht substituierten 3,4 - Epoxycyclohexancarbonsäure - 3,4 -epoxycyclohexylmethylester
und einem Anhydrid einer mehrbasischen Carbonsäure auf eine Temperatur von 50 bis 2500C erhitzt wird. Die bevorzugte Mindesttemperatur
ist die Temperatur, bei der die spezielle Reaktionsmischung eine homogene Masse bildet.
So werden bei aliphatischen Anhydriden Temperatüren von wenigstens 500C bevorzugt, während bei
höherschmelzenden aromatischen Anhydriden, wie z. B. Phthalsäureanhydrid, Temperaturen von etwa
100 bis HO0C benötigt werden. Die zur Gelbildung in annehmbaren Zeiten benötigte Temperatur liegt
im Bereich von 100 bis 1800C. Die für die Gelbildung benötigten Erwärmungszeiten variieren im allgemeinen
von 5 Minuten bis 5 Stunden. Die Gelierungszeit kann jedoch wesentlich vermindert werden, indem verschiedene
bekannte Katalysatoren zur Beschleunigung der Reaktion verwendet werden. Solche Katalysatoren
schließen sowohl Säuren und Basen ein, wie Essigsäure, Schwefelsäure, Zinnchlorid, Perchlorsäure,
Pyridin, Anilin, Benzyldimethylamin, Benzyltrimethylammoniumhydroxyd und verdünntes Natriumhydroxyd.
Vorzugsweise werden diese Katalysatoren in einer Menge von 0,001 bis 5,0 Gewichtsprozent,
bezogen auf das Gewicht der gesamten Reaktionsteilnehmer, verwendet.
Die Reaktion kann bei der ausgewählten Temperatur durchgeführt werden, oder es kann gegebenenfalls durch eine Temperaturerhöhung auf 250°C eine schnellere Umsetzung erzielt werden. Die zur Bildung eines harten, durchsichtigen und unlöslichen Form-

körpers benötigte Temperatur liegt im allgemeinen zwischen 5 bis 10 Minuten und 2 bis 6 Stunden, je
nachdem, ob ein Katalysator verwendet wird, in welcher Menge dieser vorliegt und wie hoch die angewendete
Temperatur ist.
In gewissen Fällen reagiert die mehrbasische Carbonsäurcverbindung
oder deren Anhydrid so schnell, daß eine völlig homogene Masse ohne eine vorherige
Bildung von Gelen nicht erhalten werden kann. Wird jedoch die Säure oder das Anhydrid in bekannter
und geeigneter Weise in einem Lösungsmittel gelöst, so daß die Reaktion verlangsamt wird, kann eine
homogene Masse gebildet werden.
Die erfindungsgemäß herstellbaren Formkörper besitzen eine höhere Wärmefestigkeit bzw. Härte als
Formkörper, die unter der Verwendung von Diepoxyverbindungen des Typs von Diepoxyperhydrodiphenylpropanen
hergestellt worden sind. Auch besitzen die erfindungsgemäßzu verwendenden Ausgangsmaterialien
eine sehr gute Fließbarkeit, die sie zur Herstellung auch sehr kompliziert geformter Formkörper sehr geeignet
machen.
Gegenüber den in der USA-Patentschrift 2 745 847 beschriebenen Formteilen werden erfindungsgemäß
Produkte mit höherer Wärmefestigkeit erhalten.
Die Erfindung wird in den nachstehenden Beispielen erläutert.
Umsetzung von Phthalsäureanhydrid mit
S^-Epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-
S^-epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexylmethylester
Eine Mischung aus gleichen molaren Mengen von 17,2 g Phthalsäureanhydrid und 32,8 g 3,4-Epoxyo-methyl-cyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methyl- cyclohexylmethylester wurde bis zur Homogenität erhitzt und dann bei 1200C in eine Form gegossen. Die Mischung wurde auf 1200C erhitzt und 3 Stunden gelieren gelassen. Das Produkt wurde 17 Stunden auf 1200C erhitzt, worauf der harzartige, bernsteinfarbige Formkörper untersucht und geprüft wurde. Es besaß folgende physikalische Eigenschaften:

S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
Eine Mischung aus 14,4 g Bernsteinsäureanhydrid und 35,6 g S^-Epoxy-o-methylcycIohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexylmethylester im Molverhältnis von 1,13 : 1,0 wurde 15V2 Stunden auf 1400C erhitzt. Es wurde ein hartes bernsteinfarbiges Reaktionsprodukt erhalten, das folgende physikalische Eigenschaften besaß:
S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
Eine Mischung aus 14,4 g Bernsteinsäureanhydrid und 35,6 g S^-Epoxy-o-methylcycIohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexylmethylester im Molverhältnis von 1,13 : 1,0 wurde 15V2 Stunden auf 1400C erhitzt. Es wurde ein hartes bernsteinfarbiges Reaktionsprodukt erhalten, das folgende physikalische Eigenschaften besaß:

3,4-epoxy-6-methylcycIohexylmethyIester
Eine Mischung aus gleichen molaren Mengen von 10,2 g Maleinsäureanhydrid und 39,7 g 3,4-Epoxyo-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
wurde bis zur Homogenität erhitzt, wobei sie 22 Stunden auf 1400C gehalten wurde.
Der bernsteinfarbige harzartige Formkörper war hart, in gewöhnlichen organischen Lösungsmitteln unlöslich
und besaß eine Barcol-Härte von 42.
Es wurde eine Mischung aus 1,47 g Maleinsäureanhydrid
mit 2,8 g S^-Epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-3,4-epoxy-6-methylcyclohexylmethylester
im Molverhältnis von 1,5 : 1,0 in Gegenwart von 0,25 Gewichtsprozent Benzyldimethylamin als Katalysator
hergestellt. Die Mischung wurde langsam bis zur Homogenität erhitzt und dann bei dieser Temperatur
stehengelassen. Nach einer Woche war die Mischung zu einem harten bernsteinfarbigen Formkörper
geliert.
Reaktionsfähigkeit von 3,4-Epoxy-6-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
mit verschiedenen Anhydriden und Wirkung von Benzyldimethylamin als Katalysator
Die Reaktionsfähigkeit verschiedener Dicarbonsäureanhydride mit S^-Epoxy-ö-methylcycIohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
wurde auf Grund der Zeit gemessen, die notwendig ist, um eine Gelbildung zu verursachen, wobei ein MoI-verhältnis
von 1,5 Mol Anhydrid zu 1 MoI Diepoxyd angewendet wurde. In der folgenden Tabelle sind die
Gelierungszeiten in Abwesenheit eines Katalysators und mit 0,6% Benzyldimmethylain-Katalysator bei
110°C aufgeführt.

Es wurden verschiedene Mengen von Phthalsäureanhydrid mit S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure
- 3,4 - epoxy - 6 - methylcyclohexylmethylester gemischt,
durch Erhitzen in Reagenzgläsern gelöst und in einen Ofen einer Temperatur von 180"C gegeben.
Die Proben gelierten in 5 bis 10 Minuten mit Ausnahme einer, die weniger als 0,1 Mol Phthalsäure-

anhydrid pro Mol S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-ß^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylester
enthielt und etwas länger braucht. Nach 3 Stunden Erhitzen auf 1800C wurden folgende Beobachtungen

Aus den obigen Daten ist zu ersehen, daß Formkörper, bei denen ein Molverhältnis von Anhydrid
zu Diepoxyd im Verhältnis von 0,10 bis 4,0 vorliegt, brauchbar sind und daß harzartige Produkte, die
höhere Molverhältnisse von Anhydrid zu Diepoxyd haben, für die meisten Verwendungen ungeeignet sind.

Auswirkungen verschiedener Katalysatoren auf die Umsetzung von Phthalsäureanhydrid mit 3,4-Epoxy-6-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure

1,10 g Phthalsäureanhydrid wurden mit 1,40 g S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-6-methylcyclohexylmethyIester
in einem Molverhältnis von 1,5 zu 1 vermischt. In verschiedene Proben
wurden geringe Mengen von Benzyldimethylamin, Kaliumhydroxyd in Äthanol, Zinnchlorid in Äthylacetat
und Äthylbutenylbernsteinsäure zugegeben und die Mischungen bis zur Homogenität erhitzt. Es wurde
die für die Gelbildung benötigte Zeit bei 110°C gemessen und als Maß für die Wirksamkeit des Katalysators
gewertet.

Umsetzung von Methyltetrahydrophthalsäureanhydrid mit S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexyl-
methylester
Eine flüssige Mischung von 23,5 g isomerer Methyltetrahydrophthalsäureanhydride,
hergestellt aus einer Mischung von Isopren, Piperylen und Maleinsäureanhydrid,
wurde mit 26,4 g ä.i-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure
- 3,4-epoxy - 6- methylcyclohexylmethylester in einem Verhältnis von 1,5 Mol zu 1,0 Mol
S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexanearbonsäure^^-epoxy-6-mel
hy lcyclohexyl methy lester vermischt. Die Lösung war homogen und bei Zimmertemperatur fließbar.
Beim Erhitzen auf 1100C trat in 9 Stunden eine Gelbildung
ein. Mit 0,6 Gewichtsprozent Benzyldimethylamin wurde die Gelierungszeit auf 75 Minuten verkürzt.
Das Produkt wurde 12 Stunden auf. 1200C und dann 4 weitere Stunden auf 1600C erhitzt, der
entstandene Formkörper besaß eine Wärmefestigkeit (18,48 kg/cm2) von 165°C.
Umsetzung polarer Adipinsäureanhydride mit S^-Epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-
6-methylcyclohexylmethy lester
Polymere Adipinsäureanhydride wurden mit 3,4-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäuie^^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
in einem Verhältnis von 1,5 Mol Anhydrid zu 1,0 Mol Ester vermischt. Die Mischung wurde auf 110' C erhitzt, und es trat nach
5,7 Stunden Gelbildung ein. Nach weiteren 22 Stunden bei 1100C wurde ein bernsteinfarbiger Formteil
mit einer Barcol-Härte von 22 erhalten.
Beispiel 9 Umsetzung von Bernsteinsäureanhydrid mit3,4-Epoxy-
o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-6-methylcyclohexylmethylester,
modifiziert durch Zugabe von Adipinsäure
12,9 g Bernsteinsäureanhydrid, 4,78 g Adipinsäure und 33,3 g S^-Epoxy-ö-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
wurden in einem Molverhältnis von 1 : 0,25 : 1 kombiniert und langsam bis zur Homogenität erhitzt. Das ternäre
System gelierte bei 1200C in 30 Minuten und wurde insgesamt 2,2 Stunden auf 120° C und 2 weitere Stunden
auf 1600C erhitzt. Es wurde ein harter hellgelber Formkörper erhalten, der folgende physikalische
Eigenschaften besaß:

Umsetzung von Alkyl- und Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydriden mit S^-Epoxy-o-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-S^-epoxy-o-methylcyclohexylmethylester
Heptylbernsteinsäureanhydrid bzw. Pentylbernsteinsäureanhydrid wurden mit 3,4-Epoxy-6-methyl-cyclohexancarbonsäure
- 3,4 - epoxy - 6 - methylcyclohexylmethylester in einem molaren Verhältnis von 1,5 Mol
Anhydrid pro Mol Diepoxyd zur Umsetzung gebracht. Diese Systeme gelierten bei 1100C in 30 Stunden. Enthielt
das gleiche System 0,6 Gewichtsprozent Benzyldimethylamin, so trat die Gelbildung bei 110°C in
4 bzw. 2 Stunden ein. Beim weiteren Erhitzen erhielt man ziemlich harte Formkörper.
Umsetzung von Bernsteinsäure- und Phthalsäureanhydrid mit 3,4-Epoxy-cycIohexancarbonsäure-3,4-epoxy-cyclohexylmethylester
0,75 g Bernsteinsäureanhydrid wurden mit 1,26 g SAEpoxycyclohexancarbonsäure^^-epoxycyclohexylmethylester
im molaren Verhältnis von 1,5 Mol Anhydrid zu 1 Mol Diepoxyd vermischt. Die Mischung
wurde bis zur Homogenität erhitzt und auf einer Temperatur von 110 'C gehalten, worauf nach 15 Miliutcn
Gelbildimg eintrat. Nachdem 2 Stunden auf

worden war, wurde ein bernsteinfarbiger Formkörper mit einer Barcol-Härtc von 32 erhalten.
1,11g Phthalsäureanhydrid wurden mit 1,26 g S^-Epoxycyclohcxancarbonsäure^^epoxycyclohexylmethylester
im Verhältnis von 1,5 Mol Anhydrid zu Mol Diepoxyd vermischt. Die Mischung wurde bis
zur Homogenität erhitzt, auf einer Temperatur von 110' C gehalten, worauf nach einer Stunde Gelbildung
eintrat. Es wurde 2 Stunden auf 110'C und weitere
Stunden auf 160"C erhitzt, wodurch ein bernsteinfarbiges
Produkt mil einer Barcol-Härte von erhalten wurde.

Nachstehend sind verschiedene Beispiele von erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Formteilen aufgeführt.
Diese Formteile wurden in ähnlicher Weise wie in den oben beschriebenen Beispielen hergestellt. Aus
der Tabelle sind die Änderungen in den physikalischen Eigenschaften zu ersehen, die durch Zugabe modifizierender
mehrbasischer Carbonsäureverbindungen, ίο durch Änderung der Molverhältnisse der Reaktionsteilnehmer und durch Änderung der Katalysatoren
oder der Menge der verwendeten Katalysatoren entstehen.

Umsetzung von Phthalsäureanhydrid und 3,4-Epoxycyclohcxancarbonsäureestern,
die mit Säureestern aus Bernsteinsäure und Glycerin modifiziert wurden
6,2 g Phthalsäureanhydrid, 23,6 g 3,4-Epoxy-6-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-3,4-CpOXy-O-methylcyclohexylmethylester
und 5,2 g Säureester aus Bernsteinsäureanhydrid und Glycerin (Addukt von 3 Mol Bernsteinsäureanhydrid und 1 Mol Glycerin) wurden
in Verhältnissen von 1 Mol Diepoxyd zu 0,5 Mol Anhydrid zu 0,17 Mol Säureester vermischt. Die
Mischung wurde bis zur Homogenität erhitzt und auf
einer Temperatur von 1200C gehalten, worauf innerhalb
5 Minuten eine Gelbildung eintrat. Es wurde 2 Stunden auf 120° C und weitere 6 Stunden auf 160° C
erhitzt und so ein zäher hellgelbgefärbter Formkörper erhalten, der folgende Eigenschaften besaß:

Claims (2)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Epoxyd- oder Estern mehrbasischer Carbonsäuren in an sich
Polyaddukten durch Umsetzen von 3,4-Epoxy- bekannter Weise umsetzt, wobei das Verhältnis der
cyciohexancarbonsäure - 3,4- epoxy -cyclohexylme- 5 Carboxylgruppenäquivalente der den mehrbasischen
thylcster, der durch niedere Alkylgruppen substi- Carbonsäureanhydriden zugrunde liegenden mehrtuiert
sein kann, mit mehrfunktionellen Verbin- basischen Carbonsäuren zu den Epoxyäquivalenten
düngen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Epoxydverbindung χ — 0,1 bis 4,0 und das Verman
die Epoxydverbindungen mit Anhydriden hältnis der Carboxylgruppenäquivalente der mehrmehrbasischer
Carbonsäuren oder mit Mischungen iu basischen Carbonsäuren zu den Epoxyäquivalenten
aus Anhydriden mehrbasischer Carbonsäuren mit der Epoxydverbindung y — 0,0 bis 1,0 beträgt und

mehrbasischen Carbonsäuren und/oder Carboxyl- enthalten sind. Zum Beispiel ist das Carboxylgruppen
endgruppen enthaltenden mehrbasischen Carbon- äquivalent einer Dicarbonsäure 2. Im Falle eines Di
säureestern und/oder Estern mehrbasischer Car- carbonsäureanhydrids gibt der Ausdruck »Carbonyl
bonsäuren in an sich bekannter Weise hergestellt 35 gruppenäquivalent« die Anzahl der Carbonsäure
worden sind, wobei das Verhältnis der Carboxyl- gruppen an, die in der entsprechenden Dicarbonsäur
gruppenäquivalente der den mehrbasischen Car- enthalten wären. So würde z. B. 1 Mol eines Dicarbon
bonsäureanhydriden zugrunde liegenden mehr- säureanhydrids ein Carboxylgruppenäquivalent von .
basischen Carbonsäuren zu den Epoxyäquivalenten ergeben. Der hierin verwendete Ausdruck »Epoxy
der Epoxydverbindung χ = 0,1 bis 4,0 und das 40 äquivalent« bezeichnet die Zahl an Epoxygruppen
