Es ist allgemein bekannt, Schmierölen zur Schmierung von Verbrennungskraftmaschinen verschiedene
Additive zuzusetzen, um deren Eigenschaften zu verbessern, insbesondere um den Ölen eine Reinigungswirkung
zu verleihen, ihren Viskositätsindex zu steigern und ihren Stockpunkt zu erniedrigen.
Aus der französischen Patentschrift i 228 353 ist es bekannt, hierfür öllösliche Copolymere von
aj) neutralen Estern aus und gegebenenfalls Substituenten*
beispielsweise Halogen,.Alkoxy-, Trialkoxy-, Amino-, Nitro-, Sulfonsäure-, Nitrilgruppen
enthaltenden aliphatischen, alicyclischen oder aromatischen Alkoholen, und oder
a^) Teilestern von äthylenisch ungesättigten Di- oder
Polycarbonsäuren und derartigen Alkoholen, deren veresterte Carboxylgruppen gegebenenfalls
mit Alkylenoxyd alkoxyliert sein können, sowie einer oder mehreren anderen polymerisierbaren
organischen Verbindungen, beispielsweise
b) Estern äthylenisch ungesättigter Alkohole, beispielsweise Vinylestern, insbesondere Vinylacetat,
c) aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen mit äthylenisch ungesättigten Seitenketten, beispielsweise
Styrol,
d) äthylenisch ungesättigten Nitrilen, beispielsweise Acrylnitril, oder
e) Anhydriden äthylenisch ungesättigter Dicarbonsäuren, beispielsweise Maleinsäureanhydrid, zu
verwenden.
Die Copolymerisation dieser Ester mit den übrigen polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen erfolgt
auf bekannte Weise.
Aus der französischen Patentschrift 1220 393 ist ferner ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Anstrichlatices
bekannt, bei welchem man Styrol,, Alkylacrylat, Methacrylsäure und Divinylbenzol copolymerisiert.
Diese Produkte sind jedoch sowohl nach ihrer Zusammensetzung als auch nach ihren Eigenschaften als
Schmierölzusätze völlig ungeeignet.
Es wurde nun ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von öllöslichen Copolymerisaten durch gegebenenfalls
mehrstufige Copolymerisation, von (a) mindestens einem Ester einer äthylenisch ungesättigten Carbonsäure
mit nicht mehr als 4 Kohlenstoffatomen mit einem aliphatischen Alkohol mit 3 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen
und (b) einem Vinylester einer gesättigten Monocarbonsäure mit 2 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen
gefunden, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man

Beanspruchte Priorität:

eine Mischung aus (a) und (b) mit einem Gehalt von 0,05 bis 20 Gewichtsprozent einer Verbindung mit
mehr als einer Vinylgruppe in an sich bekannter Weise copolymerisiert.
Durch Zusatz der erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Copolymerisate zu Sehmierölen kann man die Eigenschaften
der Schmieröle, besonders ihren Viskositätsindex, verbessern.
Als Verbindung mit mehr als einer Vinylgruppe werden insbesondere Divinylverbindungen, beispielsweise
Divinylbenzol, Divinylester von Dicarbonsäuren, Divinylacetale, Divinyläther zweiwertiger
Alkohole oder Divinylkohlenwasserstoffe, beispielsweise Butadien-(1,3), verwendet. Statt dessen können
auch Di- oder Mehrfachester der Acrylsäure oder einer α-substituierten Acrylsäure mit zwei- oder
mehrwertigen Alkoholen oder alkoxylierten Alkoholen, beispielsweise Diacrylate oder Dimethacrylate

werden. Die Verwendung von Divinylbenzol wird bevorzugt.
Der Gehalt der Polymerisationsmischung an der mehr als eine Vinylgruppe enthaltenden Verbindung
soll, bezogen auf das gesamte polymerisierbare Material, vorzugsweise nicht mehr als 5a/Qa, insrbesondere
0,05 bis 0,5 Gewichtsprozent betragen.

Ester aus einer äthylenisch ungesättigten Carbonsäure mit weniger' als 4 Kohlenstoffatomen und
einem aliphatischen Alkohol mit 3 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen sind vorzugsweise die Ester der Acrylsäure,
Methacrylsäure, Fumarsäure oder Maleinsäure. Als Vinylester einer gesättigten Monocarbonsäure mit
2 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen wird Vinylacetat bevorzugt eingesetzt.
Als Komponente (a) eignet sich besonders eine Mischung aus mindestens einem Diester und mindestens
einem Monoester der Fumar- oder Maleinsäure mit aliphatischen Alkoholen mit 3 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen,
wie Propylalkohol, Isopropylalkohol, Butylalkohole, und durch Hydrierung von natürlich
vorkommenden Materialien, wie Kokosöl, gewonnene Alkohole mit 8 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen.
Die Copolymerisation der Mischung kann nach bekannten Polymerisationsverfahren, vorzugsweise
jedoch in zwei Stufen ausgeführt werden, wie dies in der französischen Patentschrift 1228 353 und der
britischen Patentschrift 906 412 beschrieben wird, wobei die mehr als eine Vinylgruppe enthaltende
Verbindung der Polymerisationsmischung in der zweiten Stufej vorzugsweise jedoch in der ersten
Stufe, zugesetzt wird. ' Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Mischpolymerisate
werden als Schmierölzusätze verwendet und bewirken insbesondere eine Verbesserung der Viskositätsindizes
der Schmierölmischungen. Sie verbessern außerdem den Stockpunkt, verleihen den Ölen eine erhöhte Reinigungswirkung und sind für
synthetische oder aus verschiedenen paraffinbasischen, naphthenbasischen, asphaltbasischen oder gemischtbasischen Ölen mineralischen, pflanzlichen oder
animalischen Ursprungs hergestellte Grundöle verwendbar.
Durch Copolymerisation einer Mischung aus
a) gemischten Fumaraten von C8- bis C18-Alkoholen
aus Kokosöl mit einem Molekulargewicht von 190, -
b) Monobutylmaleat, —
c) Dibutylfumarat und ' .
d) Vinylacetat - : ■ \
wurden entsprechend den in der folgenden Tabelle angegebenen Mengenverhältnissen mit oder ohne
Zugabe von Divinylbenzol Copolymere hergestellt.

Die Copolymerisation wurde in zwei Stufen durchgeführt, wobei die Zugabe des Divinylbenzols in der
ersten oder der zweiten Stufe durchgeführt wurde, entsprechend der Kennzeichnung in der Tabelle. Die
Polymerisation wurde bei 800C in Gegenwart von Azodiisobuttersäuredinitril als Katalysator durch-39,8

geführt. Alle Zahlenangaben für die Mengenverhältnisse des Monomeren sind in Gewichtsprozent,
bezogen auf den Gesamtgehalt an Monomeren, ausgedrückt.
In jedem FaU wurden 24% nicht umgesetztes
Vinylacetat durch Vakuumdestillation nach der zweiten Stufe zurückgewonnen.
Die auf diese Weise erhaltenen Copolymeren zeigten bei Verdünnung mit einem Verdünnungsöl auf etwa
4O°/o die folgenden Eigenschaften:'

Die Wirksamkeit dieser Polymeren zur Verbesserung öl auf Mineralölbasis mit einer Viskosität bei 99° G
des Viskositätsindexes wurde anschließend bei einer von 6,7 cSt verglichen und dabei folgende Ergebnisse
Konzentration von 2,4% in einem üblichen Schmier- 60 erhalten:

Aus diesen Ergebnissen ist zu ersehen, daß die Copolymeren B1, B2 und B3, die eine Verbindung mit
zwei Vinylgruppen, nämlich Divinylbenzol, enthalten, Schmierölmischungen, verglichen mit dem Copolymeren
A, das eine derartige Verbindung nicht enthält, verbesserte Viskositätsindizes verleihen. Der Stockpunkt
des Öles wird nicht verändert.
Es wurden Co-Polymere hergestellt, indem man ein Gemisch aus 60 Gewichtsprozent der gemischten
Fumarate von C8- bis C18-Alkoholen gemäß Beispiel 1
und 40 Gewichtsprozent Vinylacetat mit oder ohne Zugabe von 0,25 Gewichtsprozent Divinylsuccinat
copolymerisierte, wobei die Copolymerisation in einer Stufe bei 8O0C in Gegenwart von 0,1% Azodiisobutyronitril
durchgeführt wurde. Am Ende des Verfahrens wurden nach Destillieren 24% Vinylacetat
isoliert.
Die derart erhaltenen Copolymere hatten mit bzw. ohne den Zusatz an Divinylsuccinat in 40%iger
Verdünnung mit Verdünnungsöl bei 50° C eine Viskosität von 68,4 bzw. 67 Stokes.
Die Wirksamkeit dieser Mischpolymeren zur Verbesserung des Viskositätsindexes wurde dann bei
einer Konzentration von 2,4% in dem gleichen Öl wie im Beispiel 1 mit den folgenden Ergebnissen
verglichen:

Claims (1)
- Patentanspruch:Verfahren zur Herstellung von öllöslichen Copolymerisaten durch gegebenenfalls mehrstufige Copolymerisation von (a) mindestens einem Ester einer äthylenisch ungesättigten Carbonsäure mit nicht mehr als 4 Kohlenstoffatomen mit einem aliphatischen Alkohol mit 3 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen und (b) einem Vinylester einer gesättigten Monocarbonsäure mit 2 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man eine Mischung aus (a) und (b) mit einem Gehalt von 0,05 bis 20 Gewichtsprozent einer Verbindung mit mehr als einer Vinylgruppe in an sich bekannter Weise copolymerisiert.In Betracht gezogene Druckschriften:
