Description
Hochpolymere Verbindungen sind bekanntlich gegen Sauerstoff, Hitze und Lichteinwirkung empfindlich,
wobei ein Abbau der Produkte eintritt, der sich durch Versprödung bemerkbar macht. Dies ist insbesondere
auch von Polymeren der Olefinreihe bekannt. Man S hat deshalb sowohl nach dem Hochdruckverfahren
als auch nach dem Niederdruckverfahren hergestellte Polymere des Äthylens wie auch nach dem Niederdruckverfahren
hergestellte Polymere der «-Olefine, beispielsweise des Propylens, Butens, Methylpentens-(l)
und andere gegen die Einwirkung von Hitze, Sauerstoff und Licht durch Zugabe von stabilisierend
wirkenden Substanzen geschützt.
So finden zur Stabilisierung von Polyolefinen ζ. Β. substituierte Phenole, wie 2,6-Di-tert.-butyl-p-kresol
oder auch schwefelhaltige phenolische Verbindungen, wie 4,4'-Thio-bis-(6-tert.-butyl-m-kresol) Verwendung.
Ebenso sind Amine, wie Dinaphthyl-p-phenylendiamin als Stabilisatoren bekannt. Auch zeigen Kombinationen
von phenolischen Verbindungen mit organischen sulfidischen Verbindungen, insbesondere bei Polymeren,
die tertiäre C-Atome im Kettenmolekül enthalten, besonders wirksame stabilisierende Effekte,
wobei die Verbesserung auf einen Synergismus zurückzuführen ist. So wird in der belgischen Patentschrift
577 252 die Verwendung des Kondensationsproduktes aus Nonylphenol mit Aceton in Kombination mit Thiodipropionsäurelaurylester
beschrieben, wodurch eine wesentliche Verbesserung der Wärmestabilität von Polyolefinen, insbesondere von Polypropylen erreicht
wird.
Es ist ferner bekannt, daß die Anwesenheit bestimmter Metalle, wie z. B. Kupfer und seine Legierungen,
Mangan, Kobalt oder Eisen die Wärme- und Oxydationsstabilität von Polyolefinen wesentlich
verschlechtern. So zeigen z. B. Formkörper aus Polyolefinen, die Teile der oben aufgeführten Metalle enthalten,
wesentlich schlechtere Alterungseigenschaften. Die Verwendung von Polyolefinen als Isolationsmaterial für die Ummantelung von elektrischen Leitern
ist deshalb nur in beschränktem Umfang möglich, da bei höheren Temperaturen die in Berührung mit den
genannten Metallen stehende Isolation aus Polyolefinen ohne Zusatz geeigneter Stabilisatoren relativ
schnell versprödet. Schutzüberzüge, die nach dem Wirbelsinterverfahren auf Metalle aufgebracht werden,
verspröden ebenfalls nach kurzer Zeit aus dem angeführten Grunde.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist nun die Verwendung einer Mischung aus a) Thiodipropionsäuredilaurylester,
b) dem Kondensationsprodukt aus Nonylphenol und Aceton und c) dem Kondensations-Stabilisierung
von Polyolefinen

produkt aus PCl3 und 4,4'-Thio-bis-(6-tert.-butylm-kresol)
zum Stabilisieren von Homo- oder Mischpolymerisaten von Monoolefinen.
Die Herstellung der mit den genannten Stabilisatoren zu stabilisierenden Niederdruckpolyolefine
kann nach dem in der belgischen Patentschrift 538 782 beschriebenen Verfahren erfolgen. Nähere Angaben
über die Herstellung von Polyolefinen nach dem Niederdruckverfahren sind in dem Buch von Raff
und Allison: »Polyethylene«, Interscience Publishers 1956, S. 72 bis 81, zu finden.
Die beschriebene Stabilisatorkombination eignet sich besonders zur Stabilisierung von Homo- und
Mischpolymerisaten von Olefinen, die für Metallbeschichtungen z. B. nach dem Wirbelsinterverfahren
oder zur Drahtisolation verwendet werden.
Die Versprödung der Polymeren wird wie folgt ermittelt: Ein Folienstreifen von ungefähr 1 mm
Stärke wird von Hand um 180° gebogen und so die Flexibilität bestimmt. Die Versprödung des Kunststoffes
macht sich durch Bruch beim Handbiegeversuch bemerkbar. Eine weitere Prüfmethode, um
insbesondere das Verhalten von Kunststoffen als Isolationsmaterial von elektrischen Leitern auf Versprödung
zu untersuchen, ist der sogenannte »Lockentest«. Hierzu wird ein mit dem Kunststoff ummantelter

elektrischer Leiter um seine eigene Achse in engen Windungen aufgewickelt und die so erhaltene »Locke«
einer Wärmeschranklagerung unterworfen. Durch das Aufwickeln wird der Kunststoff Spannungen ausgesetzt.
Die Versprödung ist durch Rissigwerden der Isolation zu erkennen. Um den Einfluß der Wirksamkeit
von Stabilisatoren in Gegenwart von Metallen, wie z. B. Kupfer, erkennen zu können, wurde dem
Polyolefin, ζ. B. dem Polypropylen, feines Kupferpulver zugesetzt und die Versprödung im Handbiegeversuch
festgestellt.
Die aufgeführten Stabilisatoren können nach bekannten Methoden den Polyolefinen zugemischt
werden. Aus den stabilisierten Pulvern wurden auf einer beheizten Presse Folien von 1 mm Stärke unter
folgenden Bedingungen hergestellt: 10 Minuten vorheizen bei 2000C unter Kontaktdruck, 2 Minuten
pressen bei 2000C unter einem Druck von 10 kg/cma,
Abkühlung innerhalb von 7 Minuten bei 50 kg/cm2.
Es wurden die in der Tabelle angegebenen Mischungen unter Verwendung eines isotaktischen Polypropylens
vom Schmelzpunkt 164° C und einer Dichte von 0,905 g/cm3 hergestellt. Die reduzierte spezifische
Viskosität des Polypropylenpulvers, gemessen an einer 0,l%igen Lösung in Dekahydronaphthalin bei
1350C unter Verwendung von 0,5% Phenyl-a-naphthylamin
als Stabilisator betrug 8,9.

In der folgenden Tabelle ist, im Vergleich zu bekannten Stabilisatoren, die Wirksamkeit der neuen
Stabilisatorkombination angegeben, die durch die Versprödungszeit am Handbiegeversuch und am
Lockentest ermittelt wurde. Die Isolationsstärke der eingesetzten Kabel betrug 0,6 mm. Der Kupferleiter
hatte einen Durchmesser von 0,8 mm.

- PATENTANSPRUCH:sieren von Homo- oder Mischpolymerisaten von Monoolefinen.Verwendung einer Mischung aus a) Thio- In Betracht gezogene Druckschriften:dipropionsäuredilaurylester, b) dem Konden- Deutsche Patentschriften Nr. 1 021 571, 1 041 243,sationsprodukt aus Nonylphenol und Aceton und 50 1 065 170;c) dem Kondensationsprodukt von PCl3 und belgische Patentschrift Nr. 562 417;4,4'-Thio-bis-(6-tert.-butyl-m-kresol) zum Stabili- britische Patentschrift Nr. 838 042.
