Description
DEUTSCHES
Gegenstand des Hauptpatentes ist ein Verfahren zur Polymerisation von ungesättigten Verbindungen,
nach welchem man die Monomeren in Gegenwart von Bortrialkylen, vorzugsweise in Gegenwart von Sauerstoff,
polymerisiert.
In Weiterentwicklung dieses Verfahrens wurde nun gefunden, daß die genannten Bortrialkyle auch als
Katalysatoren für die Polymerisation von Chloropren (2-Chlorbutadien-l,3) in wäßriger Emulsion geeignet
sind, wobei das Chloropren Antioxydantien bzw. Stabilisatoren enthalten kann. Als Coaktivator ist
molekularer Schwefel geeignet.
Als Katalysatoren für die Durchführung des Verfahrens eignen sich die bororganischen Verbindungen
der allgemeinen Formel:

in der R1, R2, R3 = Alkyl, Cycloalkyl, Aralkyl bedeuten.
Solche Verbindungen sind z. B. Bortrimethyl, Bortriäthyl,
Bortripropyl, Bortriisopropyl, die verschiedenen isomeren Bortributyle und Bortricyclohexyl.
Die Polymerisation wird in wäßriger Emulsion, vorzugsweise in Gegenwart bekannter Emulgiermittel
und Regler, durchgeführt. Hierbei können z. B. IQO Gewichtsteile an Monomeren auf 80 bis 250 Gewichtsteile
Wasser eingesetzt werden. Die Menge an Katalysator beläuft sich im allgemeinen auf etwa
0,1 bis 2,5 Gewichtsprozent, die Menge an Coaktivator im allgemeinen auf 0,05 bis 1 Gewichtsprozent, berechnet
auf das Gewicht der eingesetzten Monomeren. An Antioxydantien können 0,01 bis 3 Gewichtsprozent
zugegen sein.
Es ist üblich, das monomere Chloropren durch Antioxydantien, wie Phenothiazin, oder solche aus
der Reihe der alkylierten und aralkylierten Phenole und Diphenylamine gegen unkontrollierte Polymerisation,
die bei der Lagerung und beim Transport leicht eintreten kann, zu stabilisieren. Es ist erwünscht,
diese Stabilisatoren während der Polymerisation im Monomeren zu belassen, da die Entfernung der Stabilisatoren
mit erheblichen Nachteilen verbunden ist. Einmal ist es erforderlich, das Chloropren durch
Destillation von den enthaltenen Antioxydantien zu trennen, was mit Verlusten an Chloropren verbunden
ist. Ferner muß das erhaltene, unstabilisierte Chloropren wegen seiner großen Polymerisationsneigung
stark gekühlt und unter strengem Ausschluß von Luft aufbewahrt werden. Außerdem zeichnen sich die in

Anwesenheit von Stabilisatoren erhaltenen Polymerisate durch besonders günstige Eigenschaften aus. Es ist
zwar bereits bekannt, Chloropren in Gegenwart von Stabilisatoren mit Hilfe von aliphatischen Azoverbindungen,
wie ζ. B. Azoisobuttersäuredinitril, zu polymerisieren. Dieses Verfahren erfordert jedoch die
Anwendung von Temperaturen von mindestens 40° C. Nach dem vorliegenden Verfahren gelingt es nun, die
Polymerisation von Chloropren in Anwesenheit von Stabilisatoren, wie z. B. Phenothiazin, mit Hilfe von
Bortrialkylen auch bei Temperaturen unterhalb 40° C durchzuführen.
Im Hauptpatent ist gezeigt, daß die bororganischen Verbindungen nur in Kombination mit einem oxydierenden
Agens, wie z. B. Luft, als Katalysatoren zur Polymerisation ungesättigter Verbindungen wirksam
sind. Die Verwendung von Luft oder von molekularem Sauerstoff als Coaktivatoren der Polymerisation von
stabilisiertem Chloropren ist jedoch mit Nachteilen verbunden: Einerseits besteht die Gefahr der Bildung
explosiver Gemische, andererseits ist schon eine leicht unterschiedliche Dosierung der Coaktivatoren mit
starken Schwankungen der Polymerisationsgeschwindigkeit verbunden.
Der Einsatz von molekularem Schwefel als Coaktivator der bororganischen Verbindungen bei der Polymerisation
von stabilisiertem Chloropren behebt diese Nachteile und gestattet eine stets gleichmäßige
Dosierung des Coaktivators. Damit verbunden ist auch eine gleichmäßige Polymerisationsgeschwindig-

keit. Die Gegenwart sehr geringer, normalerweise
immer vorhandener Mengen an Luft bzw. Sauerstoff ist dabei nicht störend.
Das vorliegende Verfahren eignet sich auch zur Herstellung von Chloroprenmischpolymerisaten, wobei
als Mischpolymerisationskomponenten Verbindungen mit einer und mit mehreren aliphatischen Kohlenstoff-Kohlenstoff-Doppelbindungen,
wie z. B. Butadien, Isopren, Styrol, Dichloräthen, Dichlorbutadien, Acrylsäureester, Methacrylsäureester, Vinylacetat und
Acrylnitril, in Frage kommen. Diese ungesättigten Verbindungen werden vorzugsweise in geringeren
Mengen als Chloropren eingesetzt.
Der pH-Wert der Polymerisationsansätze kann
innerhalb weiter Grenzen schwanken. Es haben sich jedoch pH-Werte von 7 bis 12 als besonders geeignet
erwiesen. Die Polymerisation der Monomeren tritt bereits bei einer Temperatur von etwa 5° C ein, kann
jedoch auch bei höheren Temperaturen durchgeführt werden. Die Polymerisation wird im allgemeinen nach
Erzielen einer Ausbeute von 60 bis 95% durch Abkühlen und/oder Entgasung beendet.
100 Teile Chloropren, mit 0,1 Teilen Phenothiazin stabilisiert, und 0,2 Teile n-Dodecylmerkaptan (Regler)
werden mit einer Lösung, die aus 4 Teilen des Natriumsalzes der disproportionierten Abietinsäure,
0,8 Teilen des Natriumsalzes des Kondensationsproduktes von Naphthalinsulfosäure mit Formaldehyd §o
sowie 0,9 Teilen Ätznatron in 150 Teilen Wasser besteht, vereinigt und emulgiert. Die wäßrige Emulgatorlösung
wird vor dem Einsatz 15 Minuten mit Stickstoff gespült. Die Emulsion wird auf eine Temperatur
von 5° C gebracht, die Luft durch Stickstoff verdrängt und die Polymerisation durch Zugabe von
0,4 Teilen Bortriäthyl und 0,2 Teilen Schwefel ausgelöst. Nach einer Zeit von 12 Stunden ist eine Ausbeute
von 75fl/o erreicht. Hierauf wird das restliche
Chloropren im Vakuum bei schwach erhöhter Temperatur entfernt. Der erhaltene Latex wird in bekannter
Weise auf Festprodukt verarbeitet.
100 Teile Chloropren, welche 0,1 Teil Phenothiazin enthalten, werden mit 0,2 Teilen n-Dodecylmerkaptan
und der mit Stickstoff gespülten wäßrigen Phase (wie im Beispiel 1) emulgiert. Die Emulsion wird unter
Rühren auf eine Temperatur von 5° C gebracht. Danach wird die Luft durch Einleiten von Stickstoff 50'
verdrängt. Trotz Zugabe von 0,5 Teilen Bortrialkyl erfolgt im Verlauf einer Beobachtungszeit von
24 Stunden keine Polymerisation, sofern kein Schwefel
zugegeben wird.
100 Teile Chloropren, die 0,15 Teile Phenothiazin enthalten, werden wie im Beispiel 1 mit n-Dodecylmerkaptan
und der mit Stickstoff gespülten wäßrigalkalischen Seifenlösung emulgiert und bei 15° C mit
Hilfe von 0,45 Teilen Bortriisopropyl und 0,2 Teilen Schwefel polymerisiert. Nach Erreichen einer Ausbeute
von 80% wird die Reaktion durch Entgasen beendet.
100 Teile Chloropren, welche mit 0,15 Teilen Phenothiazin stabilisiert sind, werden mit n-Dodecylmerkaptan
und mit der wäßrig-alkalischen, mit Stickstoff gespülten wäßrigen Phase wie im Beispiel 1 emulgiert.
Die Polymerisation wird nach dem Vertreiben der Luft durch Stickstoff bei einer Temperatur von 10° C
mit Hilfe von 0,5 Teilen Bortri-n-propyl und 0,3 Teilen
Schwefel durchgeführt. Nach 13 Stunden ist eine Ausbeute von 75% erreicht, worauf in bekannter
Weise entgast und aufgearbeitet wird.

90 Teile Chloropren und 10 Teile 2,3-Dichlorbutadien-(l,3),
welche jeweils 0,1% Phenothiazin enthalten, werden wie im Beispiel 1 mit n-Dodecylmerkaptan
und der wäßrig-alkalischen Phase emulgiert und bei einer Temperatur von 10° C mit Hilfe von 0,4 Teilen
Bortriäthyl und 0,2 Teilen Schwefel polymerisiert. Die Polymerisatausbeute beträgt nach 10 Stunden
etwa 80%.
Claims (1)
- PATENTANSPRUCH:Weiterbildung des Verfahrens zur Polymerisation von ungesättigten Verbindungen unter Verwendung von Bortrialkylen als Katalysatoren nach Patent 1 056 372, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als ungesättigte Verbindung Chloropren, gegebenenfalls in Mischung mit Monomeren, die mit Chloropren mischpolymerisationsfähig sind, verwendet wird und daß die Polymerisation in wäßriger Dispersion oder Emulsion in Gegenwart von Stabilisatoren für das Chloropren in Abwesenheit peroxydischer Katalysatoren, jedoch in Anwesenheit von Schwefel als Oxydationsmittel, durchgeführt wird.In Betracht gezogene Druckschriften:
