已知,在眼用场合,包括卤化物品体的光致变色玻璃通过吸收紫外线而活化。这种吸收与玻璃在可见光光谱内的透射率的变化有明显的关系。由于这些玻璃对于波长小于320纳米的射线具有较强的吸收能力,对于波长为320至400纳米的射线具有稍弱一些的吸收能力,所以眼睛得到了一定的保护。虽然波长为320至400纳米的射线光谱的危害性比之较短波长的射线光谱要小,但是在某些情况下,也必须将其去除。
然而,在其它场合,玻璃在暴露于紫外线或阳光下时,不必发生透射率的变化。因此,得到一种能完全截止紫外线而不发生光致变色的玻璃是十分重要的。
而且,护目镜市场的趋势是使用高折射率的材料。事实上,如果使用常规的折射率为1.523的玻璃的话,具有较大的负光焦度(negative power)的表面镀膜透镜会具有很厚的边缘。与用这种玻璃精制的透镜相比,在相同的校正值的情况下,使用高折射率的玻璃可增加透镜的曲率半径,从而减薄其厚度。
迄今为止,还不曾知道有这样一种玻璃,它能将以下几个优点结合起来:高折射率,在紫外线和可见光范围之间有清晰的截止界限,同时保持非光致变色和无色。
本发明的目的是提供基本透明的非光致变色的玻璃,它的折射率至少为1.58,它在约400纳米处对于紫外线存在突然的截止界限,其特征在于具有以下组成,组成以基于氧化物的重量百分数表示:

比率R=(M2O+2MO-Al2O3-ZrO2)/B2O3,用摩尔%表示,在0.50与1.00之间,其中M2O和MO分别表示碱金属氧化物的总含量和碱土金属氧化物的总含量。
比率R与玻璃的碱度有关。一般来说,得到最佳的晶体沉淀的比率R的值约为0.60-0.90,特别是约0.70。所指出的R的范围的最低值是混合高含量的ZrO2和Al2O3而得到的,这使得玻璃难以熔融,从该混合中得不到任何特别的益处。在另一个端点处,对于那些碱金属氧化物和/或碱土金属氧化物含量大的玻璃,能得到比率R的最大值。在这些情况下,铜胶体的沉淀是优先的。对于构造晶体所需要的元素(铜和卤素),以及对于还原铜所必须的还原剂量的减少,必须进行严格的控制。
在胶体沉淀的情况下,所得的玻璃可以有不同的颜色(绿蓝色、红色、褐色、橙色等),这取决于铜的氧化态以及所含还原剂的量。在就紫外线截止的吸收性能而言不造成任何可见的损害的情况下,可通过加入少量的着色剂(如过渡金属元素或稀土金属元素的离子)来调节玻璃在可见光范围内的透射率和玻璃的最终显色。因此,虽然本发明的主要目的是得到无色的玻璃,但是也可以考虑有色玻璃。在特定的条件下,可以通过使用较高用量(如3-4%)的还原剂(如SnO),或者在玻璃组合物中混入常规的着色剂来制备有色玻璃。这些有色玻璃主要可用于制造太阳镜的透镜。
至少必须存在一种卤素,以使得卤素能够与铜化合,形成卤化铜晶体,卤化铜晶体的作用是进行紫外线截止。最常用的卤素是氯和溴。氟和碘也是有利的,但是在不存在氯和溴的情况下,一般不使用氟和碘。
不需要使用一氧化镉来吸收紫外线。在吸收方面除了铜的贡献以外的一氧化镉所作出的贡献与其较高的毒性相比,是较少的。而且,在一些情况下,它会促进光致变色,这一现象在本发明中是不希望的。一氧化镉较好的用量是小于1%,更好的为0。
为了增加折射率,一般使用大量的一种或多种氧化物(如TiO2、Nb2O5、ZrO2、ZnO、PbO),也可任选地加入碱土金属氧化物。包含TiO2或Nb2O5的优点是能快速地提高折射率,而玻璃的密度没有任何明显的变化。因此,目前市售的折射率约为1.6的玻璃含有大量的这些氧化物。然而遗憾的是,在铜的存在下使用TiO2、PbO或Nb2O5,会使得玻璃有严重的黄色显色,而铜是得到约400纳米处的紫外线截止所需要的。这种显色用于精制防护阳光的眼镜是有利的,但是作为本发明的玻璃是不能接受的。因此,本发明的玻璃较好的是基本上不含TiO2、PbO和Nb2O5,然而,很少量的这些化合物还是允许的,即总量少于2%。
同样,为了得到高折射率,较好的是使用氧化物,如ZrO2、Al2O3、La2O3、Y2O3、ZnO和碱土金属氧化物。然而,其它重金属氧化物(如MoO3、WO3、PbO、TiO2和Nb2O5)的总量较好的应该保持在4%以下,更好的在2%以下。当然,用于显色不那么重要的场合(如有色太阳镜),该总量可以相对高一些。
使用重金属氧化物的局限性是包括一些不希望的结果,如密度的增加,以及在MoO3和WO3的情况,有利于光致变色现象的发生,这是本发明所不希望的。
较好的玻璃组合物如下,用重量%表示:

本发明的玻璃有以下性质:
-折射率在1.58和1.65之间;
-阿贝数在40和60之间;
-密度小于3.5克/厘米3;
-可见光区域的光透射率大于85%;
-完全吸收紫外线,以在波长为315至380纳米区域内的平均透射率少于0.5%来定义;
-非光致变色。
美国专利No.5,023,209(Grateau等人)是市售的折射率约为1.6的玻璃的有代表性的例子。该专利提出了含有大量TiO2的基础玻璃组合物(base glasscompositions),在热处理后会产生明显的光致变色。
法国专利No.A2,717,915中记述了具有高折射率和低原有显色的光致变色玻璃。这一改进是由于使用了少于2%的TiO2和多于6%的Nb2O5而得到的。然而,本发明的组合物与这些玻璃不同,不同点在于本发明组合物不含银,以及它的Nb2O5含量低得多。
美国专利No.5,145,805(Tarumi等人)覆盖了含有最多为15%的氯化铜的两类玻璃。不含磷酸盐的一类玻璃含有以下重量百分数的组分:SiO2 20-85%,B2O32-75%,15%Al2O3或更少,约为30%或更少的至少一种碱金属氧化物,10%或更少的至少一种二价金属氧化物,约10%的至少一种下列氧化物:ZrO2、La2O3、Y2O3、Ta2O3、Gd2O3。该专利未给出折射率的范围,在实施例中,氧化物(如ZrO2、La2O3和Y2O3)的浓度小于1%。因此,虽然Tarumi专利较宽的范围与本发明的组合物范围之间有所重叠,但是,在Tarumi专利中,没有一个有效的实施例是具有本发明玻璃的范围内的基本组成的。
美国专利No.5,281,562(Araujo等人)揭示了非光致变色的透明的硼硅酸盐玻璃的组合物,它含有氯化铜和铜/镉的结晶相,在约400纳米处有突然的紫外线截止界限。作者要求保护的组合物范围与比率R有关,比率R用摩尔%表示,在0.15和0.45之间,最优选值约为0.25。因此,必须严格地控制碱金属和碱土金属氧化物的用量,以达到这一条件。该专利还指出,通常用来提高折射率的氧化物(如钛、锆、铌或铅的氧化物)的用量必须是少量。因此,该专利所述的组合物的折射率在标准值(1.523)附近的范围内。本发明所述的玻璃组合物有高得多的折射率,因为比率R(以摩尔%表示)在5,281,562专利所述的范围外。
欧洲专利No.A 0,586,948(Sugimoto等人)揭示了吸收紫外线的铝硼硅酸盐玻璃。该专利未提及使用重金属氧化物,如La2O3和Y2O3,也未给出折射率的值。
表I概括了玻璃组合物,以基于氧化物的重量份表示,它表明了本发明的产物。在各组分的总和等于100或接近100的条件下,对于所有的实践目的,表内所提及的值可以被认为是表示重量百分数。另外,在与卤素化合的阳离子未知,且后二个卤素的比例较低的条件下,Cl、Br、I和F以元素形式表示。所指出的Cl、Br、I和F的值为一批投料量。经验表明,实际留在玻璃基体中的百分数明显地低于这些值,卤素的保留量一般约为50-75%。
起初一批原料的组分可以包含任何物质,可以是氧化物或者其它化合物,当它们熔融在一起时,会转化成所需比例的所需氧化物。Cl、Br、I和F一般以碱金属或碱土金属卤化物的形式混入这批原料中。
将这批原料的各组分合并,彻底混合以促进形成均匀的熔体,将其放置在铂坩埚内,用焦耳效应加热至1250℃至1300℃间,温度取决于这批原料的组成。当该批原料完全熔融时,将熔体的温度升高至约1350-1450℃,以确保良好的均一性和得到良好的纯化。然后,使熔体冷却,同时将其加工成具有所需几何形状的玻璃制品,立即将该玻璃制品转移至退火炉中,该炉在约450℃的温度下运行。
应该注意,以上描述所反映的只是在实验室进行的熔融和形成过程,然而,本发明的玻璃可以在大型的熔融设备中进行熔融,用制玻璃工艺中常用的技术形成具有所需几何形状的制品。因此,根据常用的熔融和形成玻璃的方法,只需将原料彻底混合,在足够高的温度下熔融原料,经历足够长的时间,以得到均匀的熔体。冷却熔体,同时形成具有所需几何形状的玻璃体,通常再将该玻璃体退火。
从经退火的玻璃制品上切割下样品,将这些样品引入电加热炉中,暴露一段时间,以在炉中形成对紫外线区域有吸收作用的卤化铜结晶相,在炉中所经历的暴露时间以分钟计,温度以℃计,均在表II中给出。
为了得到这一沉淀,玻璃必须含有至少0.15%的氧化铜,CuO。该量可以增加至约1%,然而,增加了该量,二价铜和/或一价铜离子易于被还原成中性。因此,较好的是使用约0.25-0.75%的CuO。
对光谱的红色部分的吸收,会导致形成绿蓝色的显色,这种吸收与二价铜离子(Cu2+)的″d″跃迁有关。如果铜是一价铜形式(Cu+),那么这些″d″轨道就被完全占满了。因此,这些离子对玻璃的可见显色没有贡献。因为只有这一形式的铜是得到紫外线截止所必需的,所以可以通过以合适的方式调节铜的氧化态来得到无色玻璃。
玻璃中所得到的铜的氧化态受数种参数的影响,主要的参数为玻璃的碱度(通过比率R来评定)和还原剂(如As2O3、Sb2O3、SnO2和SnO)的浓度。这些多价离子在移动二价铜和一价铜离子之间的平衡方面很有效,因此它们对于玻璃的颜色有重要的影响。至少必须存在一种氧化剂,其用量以氧化物计最高为4%(重量),较好的在0.05-3%的范围内,更好的在0.2-2.5%的范围内。而且,因为As2O3、Sb2O3、SnO2和SnO作为还原剂有累积或并发效应,所以它们的总量应该不超过4.0%(重量)。在所述的还原剂中,氧化亚锡SnO是较好的,因为它具有很高的还原能力。然而,必须仔细地控制其浓度,以防止将铜还原至金属形式Cu0,它会使玻璃形成很浓的红色显色。可以使用较高浓度的还原剂,最高为4%,而看不到胶体铜的沉淀。
表II示出了每个实施例的玻璃的以下数据:
-以上定义的比率R的值;
-用于形成吸收紫外线的结晶相的温度(以℃计)和时间(以分钟计);
-折射率(R.I.);
-阿贝数(Abbe);
-密度,单位为克/厘米3,用液浸法测量;
-可见光区域内的透射因子(T),用厚度为2毫米的样品测量;
-颜色,用三色坐标(x和y)来定义;
-紫外线截止界限(UV cutoff),定义为透射率等于1%处的波长(以纳米(nm)计);
-紫外线区域的平均透射率百分数,定义为在315至380纳米间每隔5纳米所测量到的透射率的平均值。
实施例1是典型的折射率约等于1.6的透明玻璃,其中未引入形成吸收紫外线的结晶相所需的元素。这种玻璃可以被认为是市场上可购得的高折射率玻璃的光学性能的实例,它不能防护紫外线。具体而言,这种玻璃的紫外线截止只发生在约315纳米处,这使得在紫外线区域内的平均透射率在45%的数量级。
实施例2至6显示了对紫外线的理想防护,这是由玻璃中卤化铜的沉淀得到的,玻璃的折射率约为1.6,因此其比率R超过了0.5。
实施例2在本发明玻璃的性能和实施例1中所示的标准玻璃的性能之间进行了比较。本发明的玻璃在可见光区域内有相同的透射率,在颜色方面没有严重的缺陷,能够完全吸收紫外线。对紫外线的完全吸收表现在紫外线截止界限位于波长明显大于380纳米(即紫外线的上限)处。这些光学性能是通过向与实施例1中所用相同的基质组合物中加入卤化物、铜和还原剂(如SnO)而得到的。
实施例3是使用高含量的氧化镧来得到所需性能的例子。
实施例4是使用高含量的氧化镧和氧化钇的例子,它具有降低所得的玻璃密度的优点。
实施例5和6表明了可引入附加量的碱金属和碱土金属氧化物,而不降低产物的光学性能。在这些实施例中,比率R增至0.80,紫外线吸收性能保持优良。实施例6显示了热处理对吸收性能的影响。该实施例表明了可通过合适的热处理对产物的最终性能进行调节。
实施例7至9是由于这种或那种原因而不落在本发明较好范围内的组合物。
实施例7是典型的具有高含量的碱土金属氧化物的组合物,在比率R或结晶相的组成元素(即铜、卤素和/或还原剂)的调节上没有特别留意。因此,氧化钡的含量超出了权利要求所要求的界限,比率R在上限上。该实施例显示了在一定情况下可观察到的沉淀现象。尽管透射率有明显的下降,透明度有所损失,然而玻璃保持了它的射线吸收性能。这类玻璃,它不落在本权利要求优选的范围内,可以用于透明性能不那么重要的场合,例如用于太阳眼镜。
实施例8显示了氧化锌含量在权利要求范围之外的玻璃。在这种情况下,玻璃保持了透明度,但是,相反地,它损失了紫外线吸收性能。
实施例9显示了氧化铌含量大于权利要求所要求的界限值的玻璃,所示玻璃呈黄色,在紫外线吸收方面,未发现任何特别的优点。

1.一种基本透明的非光致变色的玻璃,它的折射率至少为1.58,它在约400纳米处对于紫外线存在突然截止界限,其特征在于具有以下组成,组成以基于氧化物的重量百分数表示:
