Abstract

Description

锂化的过渡金属氧化物目前被用作用于锂离子电池组的电极活性材料。在过去的数年中已经进行了广泛的研究和开发工作,以改善性能如电荷密度、比能量,以及其他性能如循环寿命降低和容量损失(所述性能可能不利地影响锂离子电池组的寿命或适用性)。已经进行了额外的努力来改进制备方法。
在制备锂离子电池组用阴极材料的典型方法中,首先通过共沉淀过渡金属形成所谓的前体,所述过渡金属为碳酸盐、氧化物或者优选为氢氧化物(其可为碱性或非碱性的,例如羟基氧化物)。然后将前体与锂源(例如但不限于锂化合物如LiOH、Li2O或Li2CO3)混合,并在高温下煅烧(焙烧)。锂化合物可以以水合物或脱水形式使用。煅烧或焙烧(通常也称为前体的热处理)通常在600-1000℃的温度下进行。在热处理期间发生固态反应,并形成电极活性材料。热处理在烘箱或窑(kiln)的加热区中进行。
一类典型的提供高能量密度的阴极活性材料含有大量的Ni(富Ni),例如相对于非锂金属的含量为至少80mol%。然而,这导致有限的循环寿命,因为在充电状态下的阴极存在数种不稳定问题。

本发明方法是制备具有下式的复合氧化物的方法:

由上式可以得出结论Ni、Mn、M1和M2的平均氧化态等于4x+3(1-x)。
在一个优选的实施方案中,z≤0.1且M2含有Co、Mn和Al中的至少一种。甚至更优选M2不含Co。
一些元素是普遍存在的。在本发明的上下文中,在本发明的描述中不考虑作为杂质的普遍存在的微量金属如钠、钙、铁或锌。就此而言,微量是指在前体的情况下,相对于起始材料的总金属含量为0.02mol%或更少的量。
本发明方法包括以下步骤:
(a)提供TM的颗粒氢氧化物、氧化物或羟基氧化物,其中TM具有通式x·Ni1-y1- y2Mny1M1 y2·(1-x)·Ni1-zM2 z或不含Mn、M1和/或M2的相应物种,下文中还称为前体。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,步骤(a)中提供的前体包含次级颗粒,所述次级颗粒是初级颗粒的附聚体。优选地,步骤(a)中提供的前体包含球形次级颗粒,所述球形次级颗粒是初级颗粒的附聚体。甚至更优选地,步骤(a)中提供的前体包含球形次级颗粒,所述球形次级颗粒是球形初级颗粒或小片的附聚体。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,步骤(a)中提供的前体的平均颗粒直径(D50)为3-20μm,优选5-16μm。平均颗粒直径可通过例如光散射或激光衍射或电声光谱学测定。颗粒通常包含初级颗粒的附聚体且上述颗粒直径是指次级颗粒直径。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,前体的比表面积(BET)为2-15m2/g,通过氮气吸附测定,例如根据DIN-ISO 9277:2003-05通过氮气吸附测定。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,前体可具有0.5-0.9的颗粒直径分布跨度,跨度定义为[(D90)-(D10)]/(D50),所有这些都通过激光分析测定。在本发明的另一实施方案中,前体可具有1.1-1.8的颗粒直径分布跨度。
前体可通过共沉淀Ni、Mn和如果适用,M1和M2的氢氧化物,然后在空气中干燥而获得。
在步骤(b)中,将锂源和任选地M1和/或M2的源以0.9:1-1.1:1的Li:(Ni+Mn+M1+M2)的摩尔比加入前体。
锂源的实例是Li2O、LiNO3、LiOH、Li2O2、Li2CO3,各自不含水或为水合物形式,如果适用,例如LiOH·H2O。优选为LiOH、Li2O和Li2O2。更优选的锂源是氢氧化锂。
用于进行步骤(b)的合适设备的实例是转鼓混合器、高剪切混合器、犁铧式混合器和自由下落式混合器。在实验室规模上,带杵的研钵和球磨机也是可行的。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,步骤(b)中的混合在1分钟至10小时,优选5分钟至1小时的时段内进行。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,步骤(b)中的混合在没有外部加热下进行。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,在步骤(b)中不加入掺杂剂。
在本发明的一个特殊实施方案中,在步骤(b)中加入Mg、Al、Sn、Ge、Ti、Zr、Co、Mn和Al的氧化物、氢氧化物或羟基氧化物或上述至少两种的组合,优选Al、Ti、Zr或Ge的氧化物、氢氧化物或羟基氧化物,下文中还称为掺杂剂。
该掺杂剂选自Mg、Ti、Zr、Mo、W、Co、Mn、Nb和Ta,尤其是Al的氧化物、氢氧化物和羟基氧化物。钛酸锂也是一种可能的钛源。掺杂剂的实例是选自金红石和锐钛矿的TiO2,其中优选锐钛矿,此外还有TiO2·aq,碱性二氧化钛如TiO(OH)2,此外还有Li4Ti5O12、ZrO2、Zr(OH)4、ZrO2·aq、Li2ZrO3,碱性氧化锆如ZrO(OH)2,此外还有MnO、Mn2O3、Mn3O4、MnO2、Mn(OH)2、MoO2、MoO3、Fe(OH)2、Fe(OH)3、Fe2O3、Fe3O4、SnO2、GeO2、Ta2O5、Sb2O3、Sb2O5、“NbO2”(Nb2O4)、Nb2O5、WO2、WO3、MgO、Mg(OH)2、Mg(NO3)2、Nb2O5,此外还有Al(OH)3、Al2O3、Al2O3·aq和AlOOH。优选为Al化合物如Al(OH)3、α-Al2O3、γ-Al2O3、Al2O3·aq和AlOOH。甚至更优选的掺杂剂为选自α-Al2O3、γ-Al2O3的Al2O3,最优选为γ-Al2O3。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,该掺杂剂可具有1-200m2/g,优选50-150m2/g的比表面积(BET)。比表面积(BET)可通过氮气吸附测定,例如根据DIN-ISO 9277:2003-05通过氮气吸附测定。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,该掺杂剂为纳米结晶的。优选该掺杂剂的平均微晶直径为至多100nm,优选至多50nm,甚至更优选至多15nm。最小直径可为4nm。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,该掺杂剂为平均直径(D50)为1-10μm,优选2-4μm的颗粒材料。掺杂剂通常为附聚体的形式。其颗粒直径是指所述附聚体的直径。
在一个优选的实施方案中,掺杂剂的用量为至多1.5mol%(相对于相应前体的总金属含量),优选0.1-0.5mol%。
尽管在步骤(b)中可以加入有机溶剂,例如甘油或乙二醇,或水并在球磨机中进行混合,但优选在干燥状态下进行步骤(b),即不加入水或有机溶剂。
由步骤(b)获得混合物。然后将所述混合物在含氧气氛中进行如下热处理:
(c)将由步骤(b)获得的混合物在含氧气氛中加热至680-800℃,优选加热至700-750℃,
(d)加入锂源,和
(e)将由步骤(d)获得的混合物在含有至少90体积%氧气的气氛中加热至450-580℃,优选500-580℃,更优选525-575℃。
步骤(c)可进行一次或两次。
步骤(c)中的气氛是氧化性的,例如空气或空气和非氧化性气体如氮气或氩气的混合物或甚至是纯氧。优选步骤(c)中的气氛为空气或所谓的合成空气(在标准条件下测定为21体积%的氧气和79体积%的氮气的混合物)。甚至更优选为纯氧。
步骤(e)中的氧气气氛含有至少90体积%的氧气。因此,步骤(e)中的氧气气氛可为纯氧或用少量的非氧化性气体稀释的氧气,例如在标准条件下测定为至多10体积%的氮气或氩气。甚至更优选步骤(e)中的气氛是纯氧。
步骤(c)和(e)可以在相同或不同容器中进行。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,步骤(c)(和(e)在辊底窑、推板窑或回转窑或上述至少两种的组合中进行。回转窑具有使其中制备的材料非常均匀的优点。在辊底窑和推板窑中,可以非常容易地设定关于不同步骤的不同反应条件。在实验室规模的试验中,箱式炉、管式炉和分管式炉也是可行的。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,本发明的步骤(c)和(e)在强制气流,例如空气、氧气和富氧空气下进行。该气体料流可称为强制气流。该气体料流可具有0.5-15m3/h·kg的比流速,获得本发明颗粒复合氧化物。体积在标准条件下测定:298开尔文和1个大气压。所述强制气流可用于移除气态裂解产物如水。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,步骤(c)和(e)各自具有2-30小时的持续时间。优选为10-24小时,更优选为5-20小时。就此而言,忽略任何冷却时间。
本发明方法包括在步骤(c)和(e)之间加入锂源的步骤(d)。在加入锂源之前,优选使来自步骤(c)的中间物冷却至最高100℃,例如20-50℃。步骤(d)中加入的Li:(Ni+Mn+M1+M2)的摩尔量为0.01-0.6,优选为0.1-0.4,甚至更优选为0.1-0.2。
步骤(d)中加入的锂源选自与步骤(b)中相同的化合物且其可与步骤(b)中不同或相同。步骤(d)中的优选锂源是Li2O2、LiOH和LiNO3,各自不含水或为水合物形式。
步骤(d)中的混合可以以与步骤(b)相同的方式经适当修改进行。
在按照步骤(e)进行热处理后,将如此获得的电极活性材料在进一步加工前冷却。在进一步加工所得电极活性材料之前,额外的任选的步骤是筛分和解聚步骤。
在进行本发明方法的步骤(a)至步骤(e)之后,获得满足在开头所述目的的电极活性材料。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,在步骤(b)之后且在步骤(c)之前,例如在150-300℃的温度下进行预煅烧步骤。所述预煅烧步骤可具有1-5小时的持续时间。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,预煅烧步骤在含有氧气的气氛下进行,例如在含有在环境温度下测定为20-100体积%,优选60-95体积%氧气的气氛下进行。
在本发明的一个实施方案中,本发明方法包括在步骤(e)之后的额外步骤(f),并且其中所述步骤(f)选自涂覆步骤和湿处理步骤。
本发明的另一方面涉及电极活性材料,下文中还称为本发明电极活性材料或本发明阴极活性材料。

在一个优选的实施方案中,z≤0.1且M2含有Co、Mn和Al中的至少一种。甚至更优选M2不含Co。在本发明的上下文中,“不含Co”是指M2的Co含量为0.5mol%或更少。
在本发明电极活性材料的一个实施方案中,可例如通过透射电子显微镜(“TEM”)或高分辨率透射电子显微镜观察到域。在该类域中,优选Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3域中的阳离子和LiNi1-zM2 zO2域中的阳离子显现出基本分层的排序,其中Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3域显示出交替的Li和Li1/3[Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2]2/3阳离子层,且LiNi1-zM2 zO2域显示出交替的Ni/M2和Li阳离子层。Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3域中的Li1/3[Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2]2/3阳离子层显现出基本蜂窝型阳离子排序,其中每个Li阳离子在同一阳离子层中不具有其他Li阳离子作为最近的阳离子邻居(neighbor),如由X射线衍射图中存在的面内超结构(in-plane superstructure)峰测定。

根据本发明的电池组进一步包括外壳,其可具有任何形状,例如立方形或圆柱形盘或圆柱形罐的形状。在一种变体中,使用构造为袋的金属箔作为外壳。
根据本发明的电池组显示出良好的放电行为,例如在低温(0℃或更低,例如低至-10℃或者甚至更低)下,非常好的放电和循环行为。
根据本发明的电池组可包括两个或更多个彼此组合的电化学电池,例如可串联连接或并联连接。优选串联连接。在根据本发明的电池组中,至少一个电化学电池包含至少一个根据本发明的阴极。优选地,在根据本发明的电化学电池中,大多数电化学电池包含根据本发明的阴极。甚至更优选地,在根据本发明的电池组中,所有电化学电池均包含根据本发明的阴极。

实施例1描述了Li-过量x·Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3·(1-x)·LiNi1-zM2 zO2的合成,其中x=0.22,y1=0.45且y2=z=0(等同于0.22·Li2Ni0.55Mn0.45O3·0.78·LiNiO2、Li1.1[Ni0.9Mn0.1]0.9O2或Li1.1Ni0.81Mn0.09O2,以下为CAM.1)

步骤(b.1):将量为5.0g的P-CAM.1和2.383g的LiOH·H2O(过渡金属与锂的摩尔比为1:1)混合并在行星式球磨机中以300rpm在无溶剂下研磨1小时。获得混合物。
步骤(c.1):将来自步骤(b.1)的混合物在管式炉中在100%的氧气气氛中以3℃/分钟的升温速度加热至200℃并保持2小时,然后冷却至环境温度。在重新研磨后,将混合物在700℃下在100%的氧气气氛中煅烧24小时,然后将其自然冷却至室温。
步骤(d.1):通过使用研钵和研杵将0.25g来自步骤(c.1)的中间物和0.0145gLi2O2混合而将步骤(c.1)中产生的材料与Li2O2混合。
步骤(e.1):然后将所得混合物在管式炉中在100%的氧气气氛中以3℃/min的升温速度加热至550℃并保持20小时,然后自然冷却至室温。获得CAM.1。
对比例2:制备C-CAM.2
进行与实施例1相同的程序,不同的是省略步骤(d.1)和(e.1),以生产具有Li1.0Ni0.9Mn0.1O2组成的化学计量层状材料C-CAM.2。
实施例3:制备本发明阴极活性材料CAM.3
步骤(b.3):将量为3.0g的P-CAM.1和1.752gLiOH·H2O(过渡金属与锂的摩尔比为1:1)混合并使用管式研磨以8,000rpm在无溶剂下研磨5分钟。获得混合物。
步骤(c.3):将来自步骤(b.3)的混合物在管式炉中在100%的氧气气氛中以3℃/分钟的升温速度加热至500℃并保持2小时,然后在100%的氧气气氛中加热至750℃并保持15小时,然后将其自然冷却至环境温度。
步骤(d.3):通过使用研钵和研杵将0.5g来自步骤(c.3)的中间物和0.0239gLiOH·H2O混合而将步骤(c.3)中产生的材料与LiOH·H2O混合。Li与过渡金属的总体摩尔比为1.1:0.9。
步骤(e.3):然后将所得混合物在管式炉中在100%的氧气气氛中以3℃/min的升温速度加热至570℃并保持15小时,然后自然冷却至室温。获得CAM.3。
阴极活性材料的评估:
-阴极活性材料特性:CAM.1和C-CAM.2的XRD图案在5°和45°之间用MoKα辐射记录。
-电池组特性:用CR2032硬币电池在2.5-4.8V和2.5-4.3V之间评估电化学性能。阴极通过将80重量%的活性材料与10重量%的炭黑和10重量%的PVDF粘合剂混合,用刮刀将混合物在铝箔上浇注成约150μm厚的薄片而制备。使用如此制备的阴极、锂箔阳极、碳酸亚乙酯/碳酸二乙酯(EC/DEC)电解质中的1M LiPF6和Celgard聚丙烯隔膜组装硬币电池。
附图的简要解释:
图1是CAM.1和C-CAM.2的XRD图案的图。CAM.1和C-CAM.2均具有典型O3层状结构(空间群:R-3m,具有布拉格峰)。在图1(b)中,CAM.1具有在约2θ=10-15°处观察到的上层结构反射,对应于过渡金属离子和Li离子在层状晶格的过渡金属层的排序。除了上层结构的反射外,过量的锂没有明显改变主要的反射,表明CAM.1保持O3层状结构,其中过量的锂处于主体结构中的过渡金属层中。上层结构的反射表明Li2Ni0.55Mn0.45O3域中的Li相对于Ni/Mn的蜂窝排序。
图2是一系列显示C-CAM.2和CAM.1在4.3-2.5V电压窗口中在10mA/g速率下的第一次充放电电压曲线和dQ/dV曲线的图。在该电压窗口中,样品C-CAM.2在第一个循环中显示出~215mAh/g的可逆容量,而CAM.1在第一个循环中显示出~185mAh/g的较小可逆容量。样品CAM.2在充电曲线中显现出约4.2V处的强烈的稳定期(plateau),这主要是由于H2-H3相变。约4.2V处的H2-H3相变伴随着c晶格参数随体积变化的强烈不连续收缩,最终导致疲劳和机械退化。与样品CAM.2相比,CAM.1在该4.2V稳定期显现出弱稳定期。
图3是一系列显示C-CAM.2和CAM.1在4.8-2.5V电压窗口中在10mA/g速率下的第一次充放电电压曲线和dQ/dV曲线的图。样品-CAM.2在第一个循环中显示出~250mAh/g的可逆容量,这与镍氧化还原的理论容量(~275mAh/g)相似。C-CAM.2的电压曲线也与4.3-2.5V中的电压曲线几乎相似而不含任何额外的稳定期。然而,CAM.1在第一次充电曲线中显现出约4.5V的稳定期,这主要归因于可逆的氧氧化和不可逆的氧由层状晶格中损失的组合,这二者均是由Li2Ni0.55Mn0.45O3域的存在所促成的且表明Li2Ni0.55Mn0.45O3域的存在。从由图4(c)中还可以看出在第一个循环中,Li-过量样品显示出比Ni氧化还原反应的理论容量(~200mAh/g)高的可逆容量~230mAh/g,这可以归因于可逆的氧氧化还原反应。不希望受到任何理论的束缚,充电容量和放电容量之差可归因于不可逆的氧化反应,可能涉及氧气由材料中的释放。因此,CAM.1可在较低的电压窗口中循环,实现较低的容量,但没有氧气释放,或循环至较高的电压(>4.3V),实现较高的容量,但可能遭受氧气释放。在两种情况下,缓解H2-H3相变和层间收缩。
图4显示了CAM.1和C-CAM.2在4.8-2.5V之间在10mA/g下20个循环的循环性能。C-CAM.2在20个循环中显示88.1%的容量保持率。相比之下,CAM.1在前20个循环中显现出改进的容量保持率(93.5%)。不希望受到任何理论的束缚,CAM.1的较好循环性可能是由于抑制了H2-H3的相变。
Claims (14)
1.制备根据式x·Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3·(1-x)·LiNi1-zM2 zO2的复合氧化物的方法,其中x为0.01-0.5,z为0-0.5,
M1选自Ti、Zr、Sn、Ge、Ta、Nb、Sb、W和Mo及上述至少两种的组合,
M2是Na、K、Co、Al、Mg、Mn和Fe及上述至少两种的组合,
0.1≤y1≤0.75,和
0≤y2≤0.05,
所述方法包括以下步骤:
(a)提供TM的颗粒氢氧化物、氧化物或羟基氧化物,其中TM具有通式x·Ni1-y1- y2Mny1M1 y2·(1-x)Ni1-zM2 z或不含M1和/或M2的相应物种,
(b)以0.9:1-1.1:1的Li:(Ni+Mn+M1+M2)的摩尔比加入锂源和任选地Mn或M2或M1的至少一种氧化物、氢氧化物或羟基氧化物,
(c)将由步骤(b)获得的混合物在含氧气氛中加热至680-800℃,
(d)加入锂源,和
(e)将由步骤(d)获得的混合物在含有至少90体积%氧气的气氛中加热至450-580℃。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中0.15≤(y1+y2)≤0.6。
3.根据前述权利要求中任一项所述的方法,其中步骤(c)和(e)在强制气流下进行。
4.根据前述权利要求中任一项所述的方法,其中锂源选自氢氧化锂、碳酸锂、硝酸锂和氧化锂。
5.根据前述权利要求中任一项所述的方法,其中z≤0.1且M2含有Co、Mn和Al中的至少一种。
6.根据前述权利要求中任一项所述的方法,其中M2不含Co。
7.根据前述权利要求中任一项所述的方法,其中所述方法包括在步骤(e)之后的额外步骤(f),并且其中所述步骤(f)选自涂覆步骤和湿处理步骤。
8.具有组成x·Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3·(1-x)·LiNi1-zM2 zO2的颗粒复合氧化物,其中x为0.01-0.5,z为0-0.5,
M1选自Ti、Zr、Sn、Ge及上述至少两种的组合,
M2是Na、K、Co、Al、Mg、Mn和Fe及上述至少两种的组合,
0.1≤y1≤0.75,和
0≤y2≤0.05。
9.根据权利要求8所述的颗粒复合氧化物,其中0.15≤(y1+y2)≤0.6。
10.根据权利要求8或9所述的颗粒复合氧化物,其中z≤0.1且M2含有Co、Mn和Al中的至少一种。
11.根据权利要求8-10中任一项所述的颗粒复合氧化物,其中M2基本不含Co。
12.根据权利要求8-11中任一项所述的颗粒复合氧化物,其中Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3域中的阳离子和LiM2O2域中的阳离子显现出基本分层的排序,其中Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3域显示出交替的Li和Li1/3[Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2]2/3阳离子层,且LiNi1-zM2 zO2域显示出交替的Ni/M2和Li阳离子层,且其中Li2Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2O3域中的Li1/3[Ni1-y1-y2Mny1M1 y2]2/3阳离子层显现出基本蜂窝型阳离子排序,其中Li阳离子在同一阳离子层中不具有其他Li阳离子作为其最近的阳离子邻居。
13.阴极,包含
(A)至少一种根据权利要求8-12中任一项所述的颗粒复合氧化物,
(B)导电形式的碳,
(C)至少一种粘合剂。
14.包含根据权利要求13所述的阴极的电化学电池。
