技术领域

背景技术
常规内容发射网络可经配置以从源发射器(例如,电缆集线器、卫星等等)向接收器(例如,电缆接收器、卫星碟等等)提供数据流。常规发射器可经配置以处置可由用于促进发射的物理技术确定(例如,限制)的某个带宽量(例如,每秒40兆位)。传统内容流可消耗较小的数据量,例如,单个高分辨率数字编码频道可消耗平均每秒4兆位。因此,常规内容提供商可在单个发射器上发射多个频道,例如,40兆位发射器可发射约十个4兆位频道。常规视频编码大小可取决于视频内容(不仅仅是基础视频的分辨率及格式),且因此在每一频道在任何给定时刻消耗的带宽量方面波动。常规求平均数、负载平衡及/或统计分析可用于配置每一发射流的频道负载且确定发射流上的频道的准确数目。不管所述准确数目,每一常规发射流可经配置以运载多个频道。

发明内容

以下描述包含体现本发明的各种要素的样本系统、方法及计算机程序产品。然而,应理解,可以除本文中描述的那些形式之外的各种形式来实践所描述的本发明。
在各种实施方案中,本发明的系统及方法可允许用户每调谐器记录一个以上频道,且直到每转发器记录单个多频道数据流中的每个频道。内容接收器的用户可能希望存取由内容提供商同时及/或实质上同时广播的内容的不同实例(例如,单个转发器流的多个频道)。举例来说,许多电视节目观看者希望观看占据同一广播时隙的不同电视节目。内容接收器可试图通过利用可各自单独呈现及/或记录不同的、同时广播的内容实例的多个调谐器来解决此问题。然而,对于每一同时或实质上同时的广播实例(例如,每一频道)来说,一股仍需要单独调谐器。这些单独调谐器可产生用于增加接收器可观看及/或记录的同时频道的数目的大量成本。此外,除每一内容实例或频道所需的单独调谐器之外,内容接收器还可需要充足的资源来解扰且存储用户所要的内容实例中的每一者,这也可产生用于增加解扰逻辑中使用的各种电子处理器的数目或功率的大量成本。

在常规系统中,可将调谐器107设置到特定站,且内容接收器可对准接收转发器以接收包含特定频道的特定多频带。接着,调谐器107可对所述特定频道进行解码,从而过滤掉所述带上的任何其它频道。在本发明的示范性实施例中,在那些频道位于同一带(或多个带,例如,在多个调谐器的情形中)内的情况下,接收器可促进用户选择一个以上频道以用于记录及/或观看。

示范性实施例可包含在同一时段期间存储与多个不同频道上的电视节目相关的内容(例如,四个频道)。所存储的信息可不解除多路复用到与特定频道相关联的单独文件中或到与那些频道上的特定节目相关联的单独文件中。而是,在此示范性实施例中,可存储单个信息块且所述单个信息块可包含与以如从组合器接收的多路复用形式布置的所有频道相关的数据。
本发明的示范性实施例可包含用于用户选择及用户输入的用户接口。图4说明(例如)如通过示范性用户接口实施的根据本发明的一个示范性实施例的一个示范性流程逻辑(例如,示范性方法)。在410处,所述示范性方法可从用户(例如,用户411)接收记录指令,例如指示用户411想要记录特定频道(例如,频道7)的时间段(例如,表演、节目等等)。在415处,所述示范性方法可接着识别选定的频道在哪个带上发射。在图4中说明各自具有四个频道的两个带,但任何数目个频道、任何数目个带或每个带任何数目个频道是可能的,以及每个带具有不同数量的频道。在识别频道7是在带2中发射之后,(例如)在420处,所述示范性方法可向用户显示此带的其它频道,例如向用户指示频道5、6及/或8也可用于显示或记录。在430处,用户411可做出偏好选择,指示应记录给定带中的其它频道中的哪一个(如果存在),且在440处,所述示范性方法可配置用户的机顶盒而(例如)以关于图1及2的示范性实施例说明的方式或任何数目个其它合适配置来配置用户机顶盒以记录及/或显示选定频道。
应了解,来自特定带内的多频道记录可暂时限于用户希望记录多个频道上的内容的那些时间。即,如本文中描述,仅可在用户希望在同一时间记录来自带内的第一及第二频道两者的内容时起始多频道记录。
在视频内容节目(例如,电视广播/分配)的示范性背景中,用户的偏好可为基于节目(例如,特定表演)且较少基于频道的。用户可具有记录整个频道(例如,天气频道、HGTV或任何其它)的偏好,但用户还可具有特定内容偏好,而不管所述内容是在哪一个频道上播出。因此,且在图4的示范性方法的背景中,当用户411提供用于记录频道7上的表演的指令时,所述表演可具有开始时间及结束时间。接着,在420处,作为对显示与频道7相同的带上的各种频道的代替或除此之外,所述示范性方法还可显示与用户选定的表演对准的特定节目。举例来说,用户可指定希望记录表演X(其在频道7上从下午7点持续到下午8点)。接着,作为对通知用户也可记录频道5、6及8的代替或除此之外,所述示范性方法还可通知用户也可记录表演(例如)A、B及C,其中表演A、B及C分别在频道5、6及8上从下午7点持续到下午8点。
在一些示范性情形中,多个频道上的节目内容可能不以相同的时间增量对准。举例来说,如图5中所说明,表演F可从下午8点持续到下午9点。在此示范性实施例中,如果用户指示希望记录表演G(其从8点半持续到9点),那么单个调谐器将能够记录表演G的下半部分而不需要任何额外发射资源,但记录表演G的上半部分可在8点到8点半的时段期间将示范性调谐器限于此带(例如,带2),在8点到8点半的时段期间所述调谐器原本将被自由安排在其它带上。不同的示范性实施例可包含用于解决失配的一个或一个以上规则。举例来说,当提供其它表演(基于希望记录第一个表演)时,如果调谐器资源在没有重叠的任何时段期间是空闲的,那么可将那些表演列出,例如,记录表演G将提示用户也记录表演K、L及/或F。接着,如果用户指示希望记录表演F,那么第二补充提示可向用户指示表演H、I及J也可在此框中记录。
示范性方法还可包含条件记录选项。举例来说,如果用户选择记录表演G,那么可向用户呈现潜在无冲突选择K及L。此外,可以类似于K及L的方式或以不同方式(例如,指示表演F的非重叠时间部分期间的潜在冲突)来向用户展示潜在冲突选择F。现在可向用户呈现“记录”选项以及“在没有冲突的情况下记录”选项。以此方式,用户可在调谐器空闲的情况下将此表演设置为记录,但可在产生后来的冲突的情况下(例如,在另一带上的非重叠时间期间的记录设定)使此表演自动从记录安排中删除。条件记录可不被真正地删除而可对于任何未来冲突呈现较低优先级;从而允许条件记录在冲突记录后来被删除的情况下恢复。在有或没有条件记录特征的情况下,示范性实施例可以其它方式解决冲突。举例来说,如果选择产生冲突(例如,与不同带上的时间重叠)的记录选项,那么示范性实施例可向用户提示可包含“取消当前记录请求”或“撤销先前设置的记录选项A”的选项。此外,因为示范性实施例可允许同一带上的多个记录,所以可需要将每一记录列在冲突解决选项中。举例来说,用户可安排记录带2上的所有七个表演F到L。接着,如果用户试图在带1上安排表演(从8点到8点半),那么可提示用户取消此请求或删除所有表演F、H、I及J。冲突解决选择在示范性实施例中可受限于有限数目个调谐器,但也可为复杂的且调谐器的数目增加,这是因为每一个选择可腾出非重叠时间块中的调谐器资源。可实施各种算法及/或规则以用于向用户呈现冲突解决选择及/或自动执行冲突解决,同时保持过程对用户友好且流畅。
在另一示范性实施例中,若干带之间的频道组织可部分地基于客户使用。举例来说,用户统计数据可指示哪些频道最频繁地被用户记录,且哪些次要频道最频繁地被记录第一频道的用户记录。内容递送提供商接着可将那些频道组织成若干带以使客户的记录选项最大化。举例来说,可确定四个主要网络为某些时段期间的四个最频繁地被记录的频道。内容递送提供商可接着确保那四个频道在同一带中被发射,使得仅需要一个转发器及一个调谐器来记录那些频道以及第五、第六及第N个最多地被记录的频道(其中某一带可处置“N”个频道的数据)。此外,当组织其它被较少记录的频道时,带可包含具有较强关联的若干频道。举例来说,“拳击频道”作为最多地被记录的频道可具有一部分的观众,但统计数据可指示记录“拳击”频道的用户具有记录“综合格斗术”频道上的表演的较高可能性。还可将这些频道分组到单个带中以满足那些重叠观众基础。任何其它分组、算法、组织、统计及/或配置对于本发明的示范性实施例也是可能的。
本发明的示范性实施例可经由预先存在的上行链路或通过单独及/或新的上行链路频道来收集使用统计数据。内容的卫星、电缆及/或无线分配可在分配技术内包含反馈频道,所述反馈频道可用于从终端用户上载使用统计数据及配置命令。然而,一些配置(例如,广播电视)不一定包含反馈路径。在这些例子中,单独及/或新连接(例如,当地因特网连接)可实施为反馈通信路径。其它专用网络或虚拟专用网络可独立于因特网服务提供商而实施以用于返回通信。图3的网络I/O129说明根据本发明的一个示范性实施例的机顶盒层级处的一个示范性网络连接。
示范性实施例不限于同时记录,且示范性实施例可包含同时显示的应用。内容提供商可围绕这些同时显示应用(例如运动赛事)而组织多频道带。用户可具有最感兴趣的体育赛事(例如,特定球队的大学橄榄球赛)的主要画面(例如,大画面),且可包含具有同时发生的比赛的一个或一个以上次要画面,所述同时发生的比赛可展示在较小画面上(例如,覆盖在主要画面上或沿着主要画面形成完全或部分块边框(boarder)等等)。用户可设置对显示样式的偏好,且可提供默认值(例如,4个相等地定大小的画面、具有沿着左侧/右侧/顶侧/底侧的三个较小画面的1个大画面及/或任何数目个其它多个画面大小/位置布局)。以此方式,广播商可提供多个频道(例如,运动频道A到运动频道H),且旧的调谐器可允许观众调谐到所要的频道,而示范性实施例可允许用户同时呈现所有这些频道中的全部或一些子集。可将其它类型的内容提供在单个带上供同时呈现。
本发明的示范性实施例可包含在示范性系统上执行的用于存取及显示多个内容实例的一个或一个以上示范性方法(例如,示范性系统120可执行图6中展示示范性方法150)。在图6中,展示用于存取及显示多个内容实例的示范性方法150的流程图。方法152可包含接收用于内容的内容识别信息152及用于显示所述内容的指令。可在154处根据内容识别信息确定内容识别符或PID或PID的群组。可基于正被搜索的内容识别符来选择156多路复用块,且可对所述块进行存取158及扫描160以寻找内容识别符。当找到对应的识别符时,可处理相关联内容。
在152处可从用户接收内容识别信息。当用户从菜单选择电视节目时,可接收所述内容识别信息。所述菜单可以若干不同方式中的一者布置,例如根据频道及时间、根据节目名称按字母顺序或某种其它组织模式。在这些情形中的任一者中,用户经由遥控器上的选择按钮或其它选择机构对内容的选择可提供内容识别信息。
在154处可基于内容识别信息来检索内容识别符或内容识别符的群组。即,举例来说,可通过处理器124以内容识别信息对内容识别符选择模块132进行存取。内容识别符选择模块132可用于查找与其相关联的内容识别符。举例来说,包含频道、日期及时间的内容识别信息可用于对内容识别符选择模块132进行存取且确定与节目相关联的PID或PID群组。
在一些实施例中,内容识别符可存储在用户可用的一个或一个以上选择菜单中。如此,用户对内容的选择可自动导向相关联的内容识别符且可不需要存取内容识别符选择模块132的步骤。在156处所述系统也可检索块识别符。即,虽然所述系统可具有内容识别符或内容识别符的群组,但其可能不具有关于内容存储在哪一块中的信息。因此,处理器124可对块选择模块130进行存取且查找或扫描模块130以确定可在哪一块中找到内容识别符。
处理器124接着可对所述块进行存取158且开始扫描160内容块以寻找与选定内容相关联的内容识别符(即,选定的内容识别符)。在扫描所述块且遇到内容识别符时,可将所遇到的内容识别符与选定的内容识别符进行比较。当所遇到的内容识别符不与选定的内容识别符匹配或对应时,处理器124可进行扫描以寻找额外内容识别符。当所遇到的内容识别符确与选定的内容识别符匹配或对应时,可处理与所遇到的内容识别符相关联的块中的内容。所述处理器可继续扫描所述块以寻找内容识别符,且可继续处理与和选定的内容识别符匹配或对应的所遇到的识别符相关联的内容。处理器124可继续此过程直到其到达块的末端为止。
处理内容可包含从存储媒体读取所述内容,使所述内容与相关内容同步且将所述内容发射到呈现装置。即,所述块中的多个内容实例的多路复用特性可使得若干条选定的内容在被提供到呈现装置之前被重组。所述同步过程可涉及基于内容识别符但还基于(例如)时戳来重组所述内容。举例来说,在电视节目的背景中,给定内容实例可包含(例如)音频、视觉及/或数据成分。内容实例的每一音频、视觉或数据可包含用于协调若干部分且确保节目以经协调方式呈现的时戳。此外,每一音频、视觉及数据群组(即,曾基于时间重组)可被重组且与其它音频、视觉及数据群组按顺序排列,使得用于显示节目的内容流被重组。所述处理器可进行这些操作且将内容发射到呈现装置供观看。
与上文描述的示范性系统及示范性方法相关联的至少一个优点为可用单个调谐器资源同时显示及/或记录一个以上频道且因此一个以上节目。用户可观看且记录多达N个同时播出的节目,其中N为某一带上的通过所述数目个调谐器多路复用的同时发生的节目的数目(例如,接收器可同时接收的带的数目)。
在本发明中,所揭示的方法可实施为可由装置读取的指令集或软件。此外,应理解,所揭示的方法中的操作的特定顺序或层次为样本方式的实例。在其它实施例中,所述方法中的操作的特定顺序或层次可重新布置且同时保持在所揭示的标的物内。所附方法权利要求以样本顺序呈现各种操作的要素且不一定意味着限于所呈现的特定顺序或层次。
可将所描述的发明提供为计算机程序产品或软件,所述计算机程序产品或软件可包含具有存储在其上的指令的非暂时性机器可读媒体,所述指令可用于对计算机系统(或其它电子装置)进行编程以执行根据本发明的过程。非暂时性机器可读媒体包含用于存储以可由机器(例如,计算机)读取的形式(例如,软件、处理应用程序)的信息的任何机构。所述非暂性机器可读媒体可呈但不限于以下形式:磁性存储媒体(例如,软盘、录像带等等);光学存储媒体(例如,CD-ROM);磁光存储媒体;只读存储器(ROM);随机存取存储器(RAM);可擦除可编程存储器(例如,EPROM及EEPROM);快闪存储器;等等。非暂时性存储媒体意在包含除暂时性传播信号之外的所有储存媒体。
我们认为,本发明及其许多伴随优点将通过以上描述而得到理解,且将为明显的是,可在不背离所揭示的标的物的情况下或在不牺牲其所有材料优点的情况下在组件的形式、构造及布置方面做出各种改变。所描述的形式仅为解释性的,且所附权利要求书意在涵盖且包含此类改变。

Claims (20)
1.一种用于记录多个频道的内容的方法,其包括:
以电子处理器从用户接收从内容递送网络记录一条特定内容的请求,
其中所述内容递送网络递送组织成多个频道上的多个内容子集的多条内容,所述多个频道组织成多个带上的多个频道子集;
识别与所述条特定内容相关联的特定频道;
识别与所述特定频道相关联的特定带;
通知所述用户与所述特定带相关联的其它频道;
从所述用户接收记录与和所述特定带相关联的所述其它频道中的一者相关联的另一条特定内容的请求;及
用单个调谐器同时记录所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中以预安排暂时线性方式同时递送所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述通知所述用户其它频道包含通知所述用户经安排以与所述特定频道上的所述条特定内容同时在与所述特定带相关联的所述其它频道上递送的多条特定内容。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述条特定内容为流式音频视频发射。
5.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中同时记录包含将所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容存储到另一电子存储媒体作为单独解码文件。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中每一条内容以控制字编码,且其中通过以相同控制字对所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容进行编码来促进同时记录。
7.一种用于在单个调谐器上记录多个内容流的系统,其包括:
转发器接收器,其经配置以经由频道分配网络从多个带选择且接收频道带;及电子处理器,其与所述转发器接收器通信且与电子存储媒体通信,所述电子处理器经配置以:
接收用于记录一条特定内容的用户输入;
识别与所述条特定内容相关联的特定频道;
识别与所述特定频道相关联的特定带;
向所述用户提供与所述特定带相关联的其它频道的信息;
从所述用户接收记录与和所述特定带相关联的所述其它频道中的一者相关联的另一条特定内容的请求;
响应于预安排内容开始时间的出现,将所述调谐器调谐到所述特定带;及
用单个调谐器同时记录所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容。
8.根据权利要求7所述的系统,其中以预安排暂时线性方式同时递送所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容。
9.根据权利要求7所述的系统,其中经配置以通知所述用户其它频道包含通知所述用户经安排以与所述特定频道上的所述条特定内容同时在与所述特定带相关联的所述其它频道上递送的多条特定内容。
10.根据权利要求7所述的系统,其中所述条特定内容为流式音频视频发射。
11.根据权利要求7所述的系统,其中经配置以同时记录包含将所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容存储到所述电子存储媒体作为单个编码文件。
12.根据权利要求7所述的系统,其中经配置以同时记录包含将所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容存储到所述电子存储媒体作为单独解码文件。
13.根据权利要求7所述的系统,其中每一条内容以控制字编码,且其中通过以相同控制字对所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容进行编码来促进所述经配置以同时记录。
14.一种以经配置以由处理器执行的指令编码的非暂时性计算机可读存储媒体,其中所述指令在由所述处理器执行时致使一方法的执行,所述方法包括:
以电子处理器从用户接收从内容递送网络记录一条特定内容的请求,
其中所述内容递送网络递送组织成多个频道上的多个内容子集的多条内容,所述多个频道组织成多个带上的多个频道子集;
识别与所述条特定内容相关联的特定频道;
识别与所述特定频道相关联的特定带;
通知所述用户与所述特定带相关联的其它频道;
从所述用户接收记录与和所述特定带相关联的所述其它频道中的一者相关联的另一条特定内容的请求;及
用单个调谐器同时记录所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容。
15.根据权利要求14所述的计算机可读存储媒体的方法,其中以预安排暂时线性方式同时递送所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容。
16.根据权利要求14所述的计算机可读存储媒体的方法,其中所述通知所述用户其它频道包含通知所述用户经安排以与所述特定频道上的所述条特定内容同时在与所述特定带相关联的所述其它频道上递送的多条特定内容。
17.根据权利要求14所述的计算机可读存储媒体的方法,其中所述条特定内容为流式音频视频发射。
18.根据权利要求14所述的计算机可读存储媒体的方法,其中同时记录包含将所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容存储到另一电子存储媒体作为单个编码文件。
19.根据权利要求14所述的计算机可读存储媒体的方法,其中同时记录包含将所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容存储到另一电子存储媒体作为单独解码文件。
20.根据权利要求14所述的计算机可读存储媒体的方法,其中每一条内容以控制字编码,且其中通过以相同控制字对所述条特定内容及所述另一条特定内容进行编码来促进同时记录。
