本发明涉及任何动物,优选地为哺乳动物,更优选地为陪伴动物。术语“陪伴动物”指生活与人密切相关的任何动物并且包括(但不限于)任何品种的犬和猫。然而,本文期待其饮食可由人控制的任何动物可从本文所公开的配方食物的喂养中得益。这些动物可包括例如饲养的农场动物(例如牛、马、猪等)以及关养例如在动物园等中的未驯化动物。优选地,动物为猫科动物,小猫或成年猫。

动物的“生长”生命阶段指从出生或断奶(约8周龄)至约1岁龄的时期。
如在此使用的,术语“小猫”指未成熟的猫,一般地年龄在出生与12个月之间。
如在此使用的“必需氨基酸”指不能被生物重新合成因而必须由膳食提供的那些氨基酸。本领域技术人员应该理解必需氨基酸在物种与物种之间各不相同,这取决于生物的代谢。例如,通常理解为对于狗和猫(及人)的必需氨基酸为苯丙氨酸、亮氨酸、甲硫氨酸、赖氨酸、异亮氨酸、缬氨酸、苏氨酸、色氨酸、组氨酸和精氨酸。另外,牛磺酸尽管在学术上不是氨基酸,却是半胱氨酸的衍生物,被认为对猫是必需的。均衡膳食可提供所有的必需氨基酸,然而,存在某些更关键的必需氨基酸,因为缺乏它们中的一种的膳食将限制其它种氨基酸的有用性,即使其它必需氨基酸以足够的量存在。
如由本领域技术人员理解的,“限制氨基酸”指如果膳食中存在量不足会导致限制其它必需氨基酸的有用性的氨基酸,即使其它必需氨基酸以足够大的量存在。赖氨酸为在此公开的组合物中的限制必需氨基酸。因此,剩余的必需氨基酸被定量配制或与对影响所需生物学效果关键的确定的赖氨酸量维持“平衡”关系。如在此使用的,“平衡氨基酸(balanced amino acid)”指以确保最佳动物生长和发育的必需氨基酸赖氨酸与能量的关系。
如在此使用的“必需营养素”指不能由身体合成的正常身体功能需要的营养素。必需营养素的种类包括维生素、膳食矿物质、脂肪酸和氨基酸。本领域技术人员应该理解,营养素被认为取决于生物的代谢而在物种与物种之间基本是变化的。例如,对于狗和猫的必需营养素包括维生素A、D、E、K、B1、B6、B12、核黄素、烟酸、泛酸、叶酸、钙、磷、镁、钠、钾、氯、铁、铜、锌、锰、硒和碘。胆碱,通常看作是B族复合维生素,可包含在半必需营养素中。
肉毒碱,也称为L-肉毒碱(左卡尼汀),为自氨基酸赖氨酸和甲硫氨酸合成的季铵化合物并负责将脂肪酸从胞液输送进线粒体。
不囿于任何理论或特定作用模式,本发明基于惊人的发现:向宠物食品组合物加入某些成分并给予动物这些组合物可促进生长期动物的生长。数据表明,喂给本发明的组合物的动物(或其雌亲在妊娠期间和断奶前喂给组合物,但是在其幼子的整个生长期继续喂给的那些动物)表现出增强的神经发育,一方面,本发明涉及促进生长期动物神经发育的方法,包含给予所述动物本发明组合物。可如通过MRI谱和/或通过与对照动物比较的更好的认知和运动技能评分测量的那样,通过更好的大脑发育表明神经发育的提高。例如,可通过测量给予本发明组合物的生长期动物的可训练性水平并比较适用的对照动物的水平,评价神经发育的状态。
如本文所预期的那样,本发明的组合物包含营养上完整和平衡的动物饲料组合物。除其它营养素和成分之外,这类组合物包含,推荐的有益建康的量的蛋白质、碳水化合物和脂肪。
″营养上完整和平衡的动物饲料组合物″以及适于动物饲料组合物的营养素和成分及其推荐的量,为本领域的技术人员所熟知(参见,例如,国家研究会,狗和猫的营养需要2006,国家学术出版社,Washington D.C.或美国饲料检验员协会的正式出版物,狗和猫的营养需要2006)。
在此期待本文公开的组合物也可包含以本领域技术人员熟悉的量和组合存在的抗氧剂、添加剂、稳定剂、增稠剂、矫味剂、增味剂和着色剂。“抗氧剂”指能够与自由基反应或减少自由基产生并中和它们的物质。实例包括(但不限于)β-胡萝卜素、硒、辅酶Q10(泛醌)、黄体素、生育三烯酚、大豆异黄酮、S-腺苷甲硫氨酸、谷胱甘肽、牛磺酸、N-乙酰半胱氨酸、维生素E、维生素D、维生素C、类黄酮(flavanoids)、花色素和硫辛酸。
尽管期待任何稠度(consistency)或水分含量的食物,优选地本发明的组合物可为例如湿的、半干或干的动物食物组合物。“湿的”食物指以罐或箔袋形式出售并具有约70%-90%水分含量的组合物。“干的”食物指具有约5%-15%水分含量并通常以小片或粗粒形式制备的组合物。半干组合物指具有约15%-70%水分的组合物。在此也期待适中水分稠度的组合物和可包含具有不同稠度的组分以及可包含多于一种稠度的组分的组合物,例如软的,耐嚼的肉样颗粒以及,例如,美国专利6,517,877中描述的具有外层谷物组分和内层乳脂组分的粗粒。
以下实施例进一步阐明本发明并且不打算限制本发明。如全文所使用的,范围被用做描述该范围内每一个和各个值的简写。所述范围内的任何值可选作范围的端值。应该理解当描述配方食物时,它们可如本领域常见的那样,根据其组分进行描述,尽管在实际配方中的这些组分可在其制备、贮存和使用时相互反应,并且这样的产物打算包含在所描述的配方食品中。

实施例1
促进生长期动物发育的配方食品在以下得到公开。开发这些组合物考虑到“理想蛋白质概念”(Baker和Czamecki-Maulden,1991Annu.Rev.Nutr.11:239-63)。
食物被开发用于“生长”生命阶段。这些食物包括用于犬生长和猫生长的配方食品。关于这些食物的最小营养素推荐值以及原型食物(prototype food)的目标值列于以下表1中。

19只母猫在妊娠前喂给配方食品X或商品A至少2周。母猫保持群体生活在笼舍中,直到经触诊确认有孕,然后被转移到产房。自喂给商品A的母猫产下48只小猫和自喂给配方食品X的母猫产下16只小猫。在小猫出生后,产自母猫的小猫继续喂给相同食物直到小猫断奶。
在断奶后,将产自喂商品A的母猫的48只小猫如下分组:16只小猫喂给商品A1(图1中的A3组);16只小猫喂给商品B(图1中的A2组);和16只小猫喂给配方食品X(图1中的A1组)。断奶后,产自喂给配方食品X的母猫的16只小猫保持喂给配方食品X(图1中的B0组)。
当小猫7个月大时,进行大脑成像研究,以评价神经发育与生长。采用单体素(single-voxel)光谱,用磁共振成像评价大脑代谢产物。对各受实验者以单次大剂量注射阿托品和肌内或皮下注射乙酰丙嗪进行术前给药。采用适当的注射麻醉剂引起麻醉并采用异氟烷-氧混合物维持。=256)的APRES S或点解析(point-resolved)光谱(Probe-P)。总采集时间为约7分钟。采用LC型按拟合程序确定表3中的代谢物浓度。

Claims (16)
1.一种促进猫科动物的神经发育的宠物食品组合物,其包含:
0.1%-0.7%的DHA;
0.1%-0.7%的EPA;
200IU/kg-1200IU/kg的维生素E;
50-500ppm的维生素C;
50ppm-200ppm的锰;
2.5g/1000千卡-7g/1000千卡的赖氨酸;
0.5%-1.6%的甲硫氨酸;
2400ppm-7500ppm胆碱;和
100ppm-500ppm肉毒碱。
2.如权利要求1所述的宠物食品组合物,其包含0.1%-0.5%的DHA。
3.如前述权利要求中任一项所述的宠物食品组合物,其包含1000-4000ppm的牛磺酸。
4.如权利要求1所述的宠物食品组合物,其包含3000-5000ppm胆碱。
5.如权利要求1所述的宠物食品组合物,其包含2.5%-6%的亚油酸。
6.如权利要求1所述的宠物食品组合物,其包含1%-3%的总ω-3脂肪酸。
7.如权利要求1所述的宠物食品组合物,其还包含:
0-90%重量的碳水化合物;
5%-70%重量的蛋白质;
2%-50%重量的脂肪;
0.1%-20%重量的总膳食纤维;和
0-15%重量的维生素、矿物质和其它营养素。
8.权利要求1-7中任一项的宠物食品组合物在制备药物中的用途,所述药物用于通过给予猫科动物或者该猫科动物还在子宫中时给予其母亲权利要求1-7中任一项的宠物食品组合物促进猫科动物的神经发育。
9.权利要求8的用途,其中所述猫科动物是小猫。
10.权利要求8或9的用途,其中所述猫科动物出生于喂给权利要求1-7中任一项的组合物的母猫。
11.权利要求9的用途,其中所述猫科动物在子宫内。
12.权利要求10的用途,其中的母猫在妊娠前喂给根据权利要求1-7中任一项的组合物。
13.权利要求10的用途,其中的母猫在大部分妊娠期间喂给根据权利要求1-7中任一项的组合物。
