Description
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine Vorrichtung zur Lichtmodulation mit Hilfe eines elektrochromen Materials, mit einer Anordnung aus einem transparenten Träger, der eine Schicht aus persistent elektrochromen Material zur Lichtmodulation trägt, und einer vom elektrochromen Material durch ein ionenleitendes Material getrennten Gegenelektrode. Weiter betrifft die Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer solchen Vorrichtung.
Elektrochrome Vorrichtungen sind bekannt und werden beispielsweise in US-PS 3 521 941,3 704 057,3 708 220, 3 843 232,3 847 468 und 3 879 108 beschrieben. Hieraus gehen geeignete Materialien und Verfahren zur Herstellung der gesamten erfindungsgemässen elektrochromen Vorrichtung hervor. Ferner sind daraus verschiedene und bisher verwendete Anordnungen für Gegenelektroden ersichtlich. Gemäss US-PS 3 521 941 gelangt eine Goldfilm-Gegenelektrode zum Einsatz, während man es nach US-PS 3 843 232 mit einer aus Palladium 5 hergestellten Gegenelektrode zu tun hat. Nach US-PS 3 704 057 wird ein elektrochromes Material für die Gegenelektrode sowie für die Entwicklungsfläche verwendet.
Die bekannten Gegenelektrodenanordnungen arbeiten zwar bei elektrochromen Vorrichtungen erfolgreich, doch soll io durch die Erfindung eine solche Vorrichtung mit einer Gegenelektrode geschaffen werden, die bei vergleichbar niedrigen Kosten besser reversibel und länger haltbar ist.
Die Erfindung wird im folgenden anhand der Zeichnung beispielsweise erläutert.
15 Wie aus Figur 1 hervorgeht, ist die elektrochrome Vorrichtung eine Sandwichänordnung aus einem transparenten Träger 3, der mit einem leitenden Material 11, wie Zinnoxid, beschichtet ist. Bei dieser Anordnung aus Träger und leitendem Überzug kann es sich um handelsübliches Nesa-Glas handeln, das ein m Produkt ist, bei dem eine Oberfläche einer Glasplatte mit einem transparenten Überzug aus leitendem Zinnoxid versehen ist. Die Schicht 4 aus dem elektrochromen Material lässt sich auf die Zinnoxidschicht durch bekannte Vakuumtechniken niederschlagen. Die ionenleitende Schicht 5 kann aus einer Flüssig-25 keit, einem Halbfeststoff oder einem Feststoff bekannter Art bestehen.
Erfindungsgemäss wird als Gegenelektrode eine Papierelektrode 6 verwendet. Der Träger 7 kann beispielsweise Glas, Metall oder Kunststoff sein und muss je nach dem für das 30 Produkt gewünschten Verwendungszweck nicht transparent sein. Die Papierelektrode kann mittels eines Klebstoffes auf den Träger gebunden sein. Ist dieser Klebstoff elektrisch leitend und auch der Träger elektrisch leitend, dann macht man den elektrischen Anschluss besser direkt an den Träger 7 als an die 35 Papierelektrode 6.
Die Papiergegenelektrode ist im wesentlichen eine mit Kohlenstoff gefüllte Fasermatte. Zur Herstellung dieser Fasermatte werden Acrylfasern bevorzugt, wobei man in dieses Material zur Bildung einer besser zusammenhaltenden Platte als Bindemittel 4o vorzugsweise ein Fluorkohlenstoffharz, wie «Teflon» (Polyte-trafluoräthylen), einarbeitet. In die Platte kann man ferner auch ein elektrochromes Material einarbeiten. Ein hierzu bevorzugtes Material ist W03.
Die Erfindung wird anhand der folgenden Beispiele weiter 45 erläutert.
Beispiel 1
Ein Gemisch aus 160 ml einer 1,17-prozentigen Suspension von Acrylfaserpulpe (Cyanamid T98) in Wasser, 3,0 g Kohle-50 pulver mit hoher Oberfläche (United Carbon 6310-4), 2,0 ml einer 0,2-prozentigen wässrigen Lösung eines hochwirksamen und hochmolekularen flüssigen kationischen Flockungsmittels (Cyanamid M1653C), 1,0 ml eines 10-prozentigen nichtionischen oberflächenaktiven Mittels in Form eines Reaktionspro-55 dukts aus Nonylphenol und Äthylenoxid (Jefferson Chemical Company Surfonic N120), 2,0 ml 60-prozentigem Polytetra-fluoräthylen (Teflon TFE 30-B) und 200 ml Wasser vermischt man zuerst bei niedriger Geschwindigkeit über eine Zeitspanne von 15 Sekunden und dann unter hoher Mischgeschwindigkeit 60 über eine Zeitspanne von 15 Sekunden. Aus dem auf diese Weise hergestellten und mit Kohlenstoff imprägnierten Acrylfa-sermaterial bildet man dann in bei der Papierherstellung üblicher Weise ein Vlies, das man anschliessend unter Druck bei einer Temperatur von 70 bis 120° C trocknet. Zur Entfernung 65 von bei der Herstellung eingeschleppten Verunreinigungen tränkt man den hierdurch erhaltenen Bogen anschliessend 2 Stunden in 10% Schwefelsäure enthaltendem Isopropanol.

Isopropanol gespült und dann 0,5 Stunden bei 80° C vakuumge- Entsprechende Vergleichsuntersuchungen ergeben, dass die trocknet. in obiger Weise hergestellte Papiergegenelektrode in verschie-Beispiel 2 dener Hinsicht bekannten Gegenelektroden überlegen ist. Ver-Beide Seiten des nach dem Spülen mit Isopropanol und nach wendet man diese Gegenelektrode beispielsweise bei der in Vakuumtrocknung gemäss Beispiel 1 erhaltenen Bogens 5 US-PS 3 844 636 beschriebenen elektrochromen Abbildvor-beschichtet man mit einer Lösung aus elektrochromen W03 in richtung, dann ergibt sich hier eine Erhöhung der Schaltge-NH4QH. Der auf diese Weise beschichtete Bogen wird dann 1 schwindigkeit für die Farbe von 30 auf 10 Sekunden und für das Stunde bei einer Temperatur von 80° C vakuumgetrocknet. Der so hergestellte Bogen wird dann unter einem Druck von s'c^ hierdurch eine Verbesserung der Lebensdauer von 4 X106
1,2 kg/cm2 zur Bildung eines 0,305 mm starken Bogens zyklen auf mehr als 7 x 1q6 Zyklen, ohne dass es dabei zu einem gepresst, der sich auf die gewünschte Grösse zuschneiden lässt. 15 Ausfall kommt.

Claims (16)
- 616 0062PATENTANSPRÜCHE1. Vorrichtung zur Lichtmodulation mit Hilfe eines elektro-chromen Materials, mit einer Anordnung aus einem transparenten Träger, der eine Schicht aus persistent elektrochromen Material zur Lichtmodulation trägt, und einer vom elektrochromen Material durch ein ionenleitendes Material getrennten Gegenelektrode, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Gegenelektrode im wesentlichen aus einem Papierbogen besteht, der aus einem Fasermaterial mit Kohlenstoff als Füllmittel besteht.
- 2. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Fasern Acrylfasern sind.
- 3. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Papierbogen als Bindematerial ein Fluorkohlenstoffharz enthält.
- 4. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Papierbogen ein elektrochromes Material enthält.
- 5. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das elektrochrome Material W03 ist.
- 6. Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Papiergegenelektrode für die lichtmodulierende Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man aus einer wässrigen Suspension von Fasermaterial und pulverförmigem Kohlenstoff ein Vlies schöpft und dieses dann zu einem Papierbogen für die Gegenelektrode presst und trocknet.
- 7. Verfahren nach Anspruch 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass als Fasermaterial Acrylfasern verwendet werden.
- 8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man dem wässrigen Gemisch zur Bildung eines besser zusammenhängenden Papierbogens ein Bindemittel zusetzt.
- 9. Verfahren nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man als Bindemittel ein Fluorkohlenstoffharz verwendet.
- 10. Verfahren nach Anspruch 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man dem wässrigen Gemisch ein Flockungsmittel und ein oberflächenaktives Mittel zusetzt.
- 11. Verfahren nach Anspruch 10, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man den gepressten und getrockneten Papierbogen abschliessend in Säure und Alkohol wäscht und dann trocknet.
- 12. Verfahren nach Anspruch 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man auf den gewaschenen Bogen ein elektrochromes Material aufbringt.
- 13. Verfahren nach Anspruch 12, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man als elektrochromes Material W03 verwendet.
- 14. Papiergegenelektrode für eine elektrochrome lichtmo-dulierende Vorrichtung, hergestellt nach dem Verfahren von Anspruch 6.
- 15. Papiergegenelektrode für eine elektrochrome lichtmodulierende Vorrichtung, hergestellt nach dem Verfahren von Anspruch 11.
- 16. Papiergegenelektrode für eine elektrochrome lichtmodulierende Vorrichtung, hergestellt nach dem Verfahren von Anspruch 12.
