Parmi les copulants utilisables, on peut citer le (3-naphtol, le p-crésol, les N-alcoylamino-3-méthyl- 4-phénols, le dichloro-5,8-hydroxy-1-naphtalène, les aryl-1-méthyl - 3 -pyrazolones - 5;
On sèche à l'étuve.

Process for the preparation of monoazo dyes The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of monoazo dyes comprising the group of formula
EMI0001.0006
in which Rl and R @ represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl or aryl radicals,
hydroxyalkyl or alkoxyalkyl or together with the nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic residue. The process according to the invention is characterized in that the diazo derivatives of the amines of formula are coupled in an aqueous alkaline solution.
EMI0001.0016
with phenolic or ketoenolic compounds of the aryl or heterocyclic series, capable of coupling in position a with respect to the phenolic or enolic hydroxyl.
The amines of formula (I), which are for the most part new, can be obtained by hydrolysis in aqueous acidic medium of the corresponding acyl derivatives, themselves prepared by the action of the sulphochlorides of formula
EMI0001.0026
on the amines of formula
EMI0001.0028
in aqueous medium at cold or moderate temperature. The sulfochlorides of formula (II) can be prepared according to French patent 782126 of February 23, 1934.
Among the couplers that can be used, mention may be made of (3-naphthol, p-cresol, N-alkylamino-3-methyl-4-phenols, dichloro-5,8-hydroxy-1-naphthalene, aryl-1- methyl - 3 -pyrazolones - 5;
8-hydroxyquino-lein, 2,4-dihydroxy-quinoline, 6-hydroxy-indazole, 3-hydroxy-thionaphthene, acylacetyl-aryl-amines.
The dyes obtained can be transformed into chromiferous complexes by demethylating chromating. This operation can be carried out according to known methods, for example, by heating between 100 and 1500 C in solution in a solvent such as di-ethylene glycol, formamide, dimethylformamide in the presence of a trivalent chromium salt such as' acetate, formate, basic sulfate or an alkaline bichromate.
The dyes obtained are also suitable for demethylating chromating by the process consisting in heating, in an organic solvent medium, a substantially equimolecular mixture of such a dye and of the chromium complex 1/1 of an o, ô-dihydroxy, o- dye. carboxy-o'-hydroxy or o-hydroxy-ô -aminoazoic acid. In the case of such mixed complexes,
one of the two dyes used may contain a sulfonic group.
It has been recognized that chromium complexes are particularly suitable for coloring varnished and varnished floors as well as for neutral or weakly acid bath dyeing of natural and artificial protein fibers such as wool, silk, leather, superpolyamide or superpolyurethane fibers. The range of achievable shades is very wide and the strengths are generally excellent.
In the following examples, the amounts are by weight unless otherwise indicated. Example 1 The starting amine was prepared as follows: 50 parts of acetylamino - 2 - nitro - 5 - anisol - sulfochloride-4 are suspended in 120 parts of water. Without exceeding 250C is added while stirring 120 parts by volume of concentrated ammonia. Stirred 16 hours at room temperature, filtered and rinsed with water. It is dried in an oven.
Weight of acetyl-amino-2-nitro-5-sulfonamido-4-anisol collected: 41.7 parts. Melting point: 261-262o C.
24 parts of the above product in 95 parts of water and 48 parts by volume of ten times normal hydrochloric acid are heated under reflux for 3 to 4 hours. It is filtered at boiling to separate traces of insoluble matter, the filtrate is diluted by adding an equal volume of cold water and left to stand for a few hours in the cold. After filtration and drying 18 parts of amino-2-nitro-5-sulfonamido-4-anisol are collected in the form of yellow crystals with a melting point of 199-200C (201-202 C after recrystallization from alcohol).
A number of related compounds, substituted on the nitrogen atom, have been prepared in an analogous manner. It may be advantageous to carry out the hydrolysis of the acetyl derivative in slightly dilute sulfuric acid.
Table I lists the melting points of some specific products

After 20 minutes of stirring, the filtered solution is introduced into a solution prepared from 4,
5 parts of (3-naphthol, 250 parts of water, 30 parts of 40 g / l soda ash and 15 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate. It is verified that the diazo derivative has completely disappeared, filters the precipitated dye, washed and dried in the oven.

spin and dry at 1000 C. The complex thus obtained gives on wool in a neutral or weakly acetic bath with a very good dyeing performance, a neutral gray shade endowed with excellent general fastnesses. Example 2 8.7 parts of amino-2-isopropylsulfonamido-4-nitro-5-anisol are dissolved in 60 parts of acetone and 15 parts of hydrochloric acid at 365 g / l.
Diluted with 60 parts of ice water and dinitrogen between 5 and 100 C by addition of 30 parts of a sodium nitrite solution at 69 g / l. The mixture is stirred for 20 minutes, a slight insoluble material is filtered off and the filtrate is introduced into a solution prepared with 5.7 parts of .phenyl-1-methyl-3-pyrazolone-5, 150 parts of water, 33 parts of sodium hydroxide. at 40 g / l and 15 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate.
The diazo derivative disappears rapidly. The precipitated dye is filtered, washed and dried in an oven.
After chromating according to a process identical to that of Example 1, a complex is obtained which dyes the wool from the neutral or weakly acetic bath in a bright scarlet shade endowed with excellent general fastnesses. The dye yield is excellent.
Example 3 8 parts of the dye prepared as described in Example 1 by coupling the diazo derivative of amino-2-sulfonamido-4-nitro-5-anisol with p-naphthol and 10 parts of chromium complex 1/1 of the dye obtained by coupling the diazo derivative of amino-1-naphthol-2-sulfonic-4 with (3-naphthol are heated for 3 hours at 130 135,
1 C in 200 parts of formamide. The reaction product is poured into 1000 parts of water and salted at 80 ° C. by the addition of 150 parts of salt. It is filtered, drained and dried in an oven. The mixed chrome complex thus prepared dyes the wool from a neutral or weakly acetic bath in a gray blue shade endowed with excellent general fastnesses.
Example 4 By replacing in Example 3 the chromiferous complex of the dye used by that of the dye obtained by coupling the diazdic derivative of amino-1-naphthol-2-sulfonic acid-4 with a-naphthol, a mixed complex of very similar tinctorial properties is prepared. The following table gives other examples of dyes obtained in a manner analogous to that of Examples 1 and 2.
