<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

If R1, R, R3 or R4 is an alkyl group, .co will preferably be a low molecular weight alkyl group, for example having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. If R1, R3 or R is a cyclo-alkylem group, this group will advantageously have six members. If R1, R3 or R4 is a substituted alkyl group, it will in particular be a benzyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group or a cyanoalkyl group.
If it is a group

If R2 is an alkoxycarbonyl group, it may in particular be the methoxycarbonylo or ethoxycarbonyl group or a propoxycarbonyl or butoxycarbonyl group, If R is an N-substituted carboxylamide residue, the substituents on the nitrogen will above all be lower alkyl groups .
In the compounds of formulas I, II and III which are preferred, R1 is an aryl group, in particular the phenyl group and R2 a lower alkyl group, mainly the methyl group.
In the case where R3 and R4 form with the nitrogen which connects them a non-aromatic heterocycle, this will preferably have 5 or 6 ring members and it will be in particular a pyrrolidine, pyrazoline, piperidine or morpholine.
Ar is preferably a p-arylene residue from the benzene series. As substituents @ which do not give rise to an acid dissociation in water on this residue Ar, there may be mentioned the aryl substituents indicated for but R 1, R 3 and R 4, in particular lower alkyl groups.

If R5 is an alkyl residue, the co residue will preferably have 1 to 4 carbon atoms and it may bear as substituents, for example an alkoxy-carbonylo group, a carboxylamide group, a phenyl group or the cyano group, a phenylalkyl group preferably being the rest benzylo.
As the strong mineral acid anion, X e may be the chlorine bromine ion, iodine, sulfate or the anion of a halogenated hydracid metal compound, for example the anion ZnCl3-As an anion d. The strong organic acid, X @ can be for example an alkoxysulfate ion, arylsulfonate, optionally the benzene-sulfonate or p-toluene-sulfonate ion or the oxalate ion.
The raw materials of formula I are for the most part known or they can be prepared according to known methods, for example by reaction of cyanomethyl-ketones or their iminos with hydrazines bearing the corresponding R1 substituent The diazotization of 5-aminopyrazoles of formula I with the nitrosyl acid sulfate so advantageously made in ------------

A large number of aromatic aminos are known to coupling in the para position with respect to the amine group, which can be used as raw materials. Particularly advantageous coupling components are the phenylamine compounds of formula IV.

Examples of compounds of formula IV in which one of the residues Y and complete Z, a heterocyclo with R3 or with R are 1.2.3.4-tetrahydroquinolino and, in particular, carbazolos.

preferably at a pH between 4 and 6 and preferably at low temperatures. The new monoazo dyes of formula II can be used, for example, for the dyeing of fibrous materials based on cellulose esters, mainly cellulose acetates such as diacetate and triacetate,
or also polyesters of aromatic polycarboxylic acids with polyalcohols such as polyethylene glycol terephthalates, polyhexahydroxylyl diols terephthalates and polyethylene glycol isphthalates.
Reactive alkanol esters with which the monoazo dyes of formula II are reacted to form the cyclic ammonium compounds of formula III include, for example, estels. methyl; ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, cyanethyl, benzylic acids hydrochloric, hydrobromic, hydroiodic, dimethyl sulphate and diethyl sulphate, methyl and ethyl esters of benzene sulphonic and p-toluene sulphonic acids, as well as alkyl esters of bromacetic acid, the alkyl residue of which will preferably have 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
Instead of certain substituted alkanol esters, it is also possible to use their progenitors, that is to say compounds which can generate them, for example, in place of ss-cyano-ethyl chloride or bromide or of ss -carbamoylethyl, acrylonitrile or acrylamido, hydrochloric or hydrobromic acid is present.
The reaction of a monoazo dye of formula II with a reactive alkanol ester to form the cyclic ammonium compound of formula III is advantageously carried out by / heating / two components in a non-participating organic solvent. to the reaction, the appropriate solvents

being, for example, aromatic hydrocarbons which are optionally halogenated or nitrated, such as toluene, xylene, halo-benzenes or nitro-benzenes or else optionally halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons 8). for example trichlorethylene or trichloroethane.
The new cyclic ammonium compounds of formula III are formed in the form of salts of the acids corresponding to the defined alkanol or aralkanol esters which were used to prepare them, that is to say in the form of colored salts of strong inorganic or organic acids. These will therefore mainly be chlorides, bromides, iodides, methosulphates, ethosulphates, bisulphates, benzene sulphonates or p-toluene sulphonates. If desired, it is also possible by double decomposition to prepare salts of other acids, for example oxalates by means of oxalic acid. Double salts can also be obtained, for example with the halides of the dyes and the corresponding zinc or cadminium salts.
The new compounds of formula III, in particular in the form of salts of strong inorganic or organic acids, are most often well soluble in water. In an aqueous, neutral or, preferably, weakly acidic bath, optionally in the presence of dispersing wetting agents, for example in the presence of condensation products, of alkylene oxides with higher alkanols, they show very well, sometimes completely, on fibrous materials based on polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile, by heating in an open cuva or in a closed dye bath under pressure, by producing on these materials dyes of orange, red tending to yellow or red, which are solid, for example in a humid environment, in crimping and in particular
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
in the light.
Completely perfect dyes, which are yellowish-orange in color and which are light-solid, are obtained with the dyes according to the invention of formula III which have a carbazole ring as the residue of the coupling component.
The following examples serve only to better describe the present invention, but they do not limit the scope of the invention in any way: EXAMPLE 1
