<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Waterproof case for a watch The present invention relates to a waterproof case for a watch. This sealed case is characterized by the fact that it comprises a body at least partially made of plastic, in which the crystal is engaged, a middle-bezel surrounding said body and having a frustoconical interior bearing surface acting on the part of the box body, made of plastic, surrounding the rim of the mirror, and a bottom supporting, at least indirectly,
on the case body to exert axial traction on the caseband-bezel by which said part of the case body is elastically deformed and thus tightly applied against the crystal, which ensures the sealing of the assembly.
The drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the object of the invention.
Figs. 1 to 6 are six partial axial sections of six embodiments.
In the first embodiment, the box shown comprises a body 1 of plastic material in which is engaged the rim 2a of a glass 2. A reinforcing ring 3 is itself forced inside the rim 2a. A rim 4a of the bottom 4 is engaged in the box body 1 made of plastic. The latter is surrounded by a caseband-bezel 5 to which is hooked, in a notch, a ring 6 resting on a peripheral part 4b of the base 4 and holding it pressed against the case body 1.
The back thus exerts on the box body an axial pressure which applies the part 1b of the box body, in which the crystal 2 is engaged, against a frustoconical interior bearing surface 5a of the caseband-bezel. This part 1b deforms elastically, thus ensuring the tightness of the assembly. In this embodiment, the movement has not been shown, only its dial designated by 7 is shown.
The embodiment of FIG. 2 differs from the first mainly by the fact that the back 8, which has a flange 8a engaged in the box body 9 of plastic material, has an annular flange 8b hooked into the caseband-bezel 10. The force axial exerted by the notch on the base 8 produces, also in this embodiment, a compression of the gearbox body 9. Finally, the lens 11 is itself mounted in a notch in the gearbox body 9, without a reinforcing ring .
In the embodiment of FIG. 3, the back 12 which has a flange 12a engaged in the plastic box body 13 is pressed against this box body by a ring 14 screwed into the middle-bezel 15. The flange 16a of the crystal 16 is engaged between two parallel flanges 13a and 13b of the case body 13. In this embodiment, the movement has not been shown, nor the dial.
In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the back, designated by 17, is screwed into the middle-bezel 18. The case body is designated by 19. As in the previous embodiments, the axial traction exerted by the bottom on the middle-bezel produces, by the action of a. tapered interior bearing 20 of the middle-bezel on a rim 19a of the case body, an elastic deformation of this rim which is thus applied closely against the crystal 21, which ensures the sealing of the assembly. The winding tube, designated by 19b, comes in one piece with the box body 19. This tube can be wrapped on the outside by a metal sheath.
The body
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
case 19 is introduced into the caseband-bezel 18 from below, by first engaging the tube 19b in the hole in the caseband-bezel provided for this purpose.
In the embodiment of FIG. 5, the box body is formed of two parts 22 and 23, the first in plastic material, the second in metal. The crystal 24 is engaged in the part 22 of the case body on which acts a frustoconical inner bearing surface 25 of the caseband-bezel 26. The back 27 is screwed into the caseband-bezel and rests on the part 23 of the case body by through a seal 28. A flange 29 is engaged in part 22 of the case body and acts as a support for the dial 30 of the movement, as well as for the crystal.
The parts 22 and 23 of the box body can be assembled permanently, for example by molding part 22 on part 23.
The embodiment of FIG. 6 is identical, in principle, to that of FIG. 5. However, the metal part 31 of the case body, in which the plastic part 32 is mounted, has an inner rim 3 forming it as a flange for the dial 32 of the movement.
As a variant, provision can be made for the case where the plastic part of the box body can extend internally in the direction of the movement so that the latter, in particular the thread of the plate, rests on it.
In the embodiments of FIGS. 4 and 5 the movement will be placed in the case from above, while in all other executions it is placed from below.
The invention applies equally well to shaped watch cases as to round cases.
The mirrors shall be of ordinary glass or of unbreakable organic glass.
As a variant, the plastic box body could be made in one piece with a false bottom disposed between the outer metal bottom and the movement.
