<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Watertight timepiece case The subject of the present invention is a watertight timepiece case, which constitutes an improvement of that which is the subject of the main patent.
The sealed box according to the main patent comprises, on the one hand, a closure member which is held in place by engaging, under an inner rim of a part of the box, an outer rim of the closure member located on a part elastically deformable in the radial direction of this closure member, the latter being removable, but being able to be put in place or removed only by elastically deforming said part of the closure member in the radial direction, and, on the other hand hand, a gasket interposed between said part of the box and the closure member, and it is characterized in that the working face of one of said flanges is slightly inclined with respect to a plane perpendicular to the axis of the box,
but not enough to constitute a notch closure, so that the radial elastic pressure tending to open the periphery of the closure member causes the rim of this member to slide along said inclined face and thus compresses the seal in the direction axial.
To carry out the establishment of the closure member in the box according to the main patent, it is a question of grasping this member as if to open the box, using a tool which deforms its peripheral zone towards the interior, so that the rim of the closure member can pass inside the corresponding rim of the part of the housing to which this closure member is attached. However, this mode of installation does not only involve several manipulations which take time; it further exposes the closure member to the danger of being subjected to excessive deformation.
Indeed, the worker responsible for putting it in place does not have a mark which allows him to determine exactly to what extent he must deform the peripheral zone of this closure member, so that he can put it in place. To be sure of getting there on the first try, this worker may be tempted to distort this area excessively.
The aim of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. To this end, the box according to the invention is characterized in that one of said flanges has two adjacent faces, an engagement face and a working face, its engagement face being slightly inclined with respect to the axis. of the box and its working face being slightly inclined relative to a plane perpendicular to the axis of the box, but not enough to constitute a snap closure, so that the radial elastic pressure tending to open the periphery of the member closure slides the rim of this member along said working face and thus compresses the seal in the axial direction, in that the other rim also has an engagement face,
which has the same inclination as that of the first flange and in that the engagement faces of the two flanges have dimensions such that the outer engagement face of the outer flange of the closure member penetrates at least partially into the inner face engagement of the inner edge of the part of the box, when the closure member is placed freely on the part of the box.
One embodiment of the box according to the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, the single figure of which is a partial section.
The case shown is a wristwatch case, which comprises a metal part 31 simultaneously constituting the back, the middle and the bezel of the case. A movement 32 is housed in this part 31 by means of a casing ring 33. The part 31 is closed by a glass 34, which has a peripheral zone 35 and a rim 36 whose outer face 37 is inclined by relative to the axis of the watch.
In the case of a round watch, the face 37 is frustoconical, while in the case of a square case, this
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
face has the shape of the lateral face of a trunk of a pyramid.
In the closed position of the box, the rim 36 of the glass 34 is engaged inside a housing 38 of the part 31, in which is placed a seal 39 which has, in the original state, a section circular. A rim 40 of the part 31 extends above the housing 38. This rim has an internal face 41 of similar shape to that of the face 37 of the lens; it is therefore inclined like this face 37. The rim 40 also has a lower face 42 which is also inclined.
The dimensions of the edges 40 of the part 31 and 36 of the glass 34 are chosen so that the face 37 of the glass can be engaged at least in part in the face 41 of the rim 40 of the part 31, when the glass 34 is placed freely. on this part 31 with a view to its installation.
To put the glass in place, it is thus sufficient to place the glass 34 on the part 31, then to exert an axial pressure on the periphery of this glass. This pressure has the effect of sliding the face 37 of this lens along the face 41 of the part 31. During this movement, the peripheral zone 35 of the lens 34 is deformed inwardly, until the moment when the upper edge of the rim 36 of the lens 34 passes beyond the lower edge of the face 41. At this instant, the peripheral zone 35 of the lens 34 relaxes, so that the rim 36 of the lens passes under the rim 40 of the part 31, compressing the seal 39 in the radial direction as well as in the axial direction.
The opening of the box described is carried out as in the main patent, by gripping the peripheral zone 35 of the lens 34 inside a clamp capable of radially deforming this zone 35 until the rim 36 can pass. inside the ledge 40.
As in the main patent, glass 34 retains movement 32 axially in place by pressing on the periphery of dial 43 attached to movement 32.
The box described may be shaped and have sharp angles. Finally, instead of being formed by glass, the closure member of the box according to the invention could also be the bottom of the box.
