Process for the preparation of metal complexes The present invention relates to the preparation of metal complexes of dyes of general formula
EMI0001.0002
in which R represents the remainder of a diazotizable base having in the ortho position of the NH group:
> a group capable of taking part in the formation of a metal complex, but for example, apart from the group in the ortho position, of the SO3H group, or of the COOH group, R 'represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl group and R " represents a heterocyclic ring optionally bearing non-solubilizing substituents such as halogen atoms, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, alkylthio groups.
In accordance with the invention, these metal complexes are obtained by diazotizing a base of formula R-NH, and by coupling the diazo thus obtained with a coupler of formula R'-CO - CH., - CONH - R "(II) R , R 'and R "having the same meanings as in the previous paragraph, the dyes thus produced being transformed into metal complexes.
Among the groups capable of taking part in the formation of a metal complex and which must be in the ortho position of the NH 2 group of the diazotizable bases which can be used as raw materials for the preparation of dyes, mention may be made of -OH groups , -OCH3, -O-CH2-COOH, -COOH. These diazotizable bases may, in addition, contain other substituents such as halogen atoms, alkyl groups, -OCH3, -N02,
acylamino, arylamino, SO2NH2, alkyl-sulfonylamino, arylsulfonylamino, -CO-alkyl, sulfone (-SO2CH3, -SO2C2H5 for example).
The couplers used are those of general formula (II). They can be constituted, for example, by acylacetylated derivatives of dihydrothioparatoluidine, by acylacetylated derivatives described in French patents 834513, 848290, 977972 and the addition 55825 to French patent 977972, by acylacetylated derivatives of amino- 2 benzothiazole and its derivatives substituted with non-solubilizing groups,
by acylacetylated derivatives of amino carbazoles.
The transformation of the mono-azo dyes thus prepared into metallic dyes can take place according to any known general method of metallization; in particular, it can be carried out by metallizing treatments which lead to metal complexes containing per molecule of mono-azo dye less than one complexed metal atom.
All the methods leading to complexes corresponding to the latter constitution can be used and among these should be understood those using chromating in the presence of amides or ammonium salts of carboxylic acids, of ortho-hydroxy acids. - aromatic carboxylic acids, aliphatic hydroxy carboxylic acids, aminocarboxylic acids,
heating in alkali metal salts of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids containing water of crystallization in the presence of a metallizing agent, chromating in the presence of organic solvents, heating in aqueous solution in the presence of a cobalt salt, nickel, copper, iron, manganese or aluminum and an excess of caustic soda, optionally in the presence of an aliphatic hydroxycarboxylic acid,
reacting the unmetallized dye with a metallizing agent in the presence of another metallizable dye, reacting the unmetallized dye with a metalliferous dye containing one metal molecule per dye molecule.
The metalliferous dyes obtained by the process according to the present invention can be used for the coloring of organic solvents, lakes, varnishes and masses based on cellulose esters and ethers; some of them, in particular those containing in the residue R of the general formula (1) a group -S02NH2, -S02NH-CH3, -S02CH3, -SO., C2H5, are capable of dyeing in a neutral bath or weakly acetic wool, natural silk, leather, animal fibers,
superpolyamides and superpolyurethanes, giving shades exhibiting excellent general strengths, while keeping plant fibers and acetate rayon well.
The following examples, in which the parts indicated are parts by weight, illustrate the invention. Example 1 2.3 parts of 2-acetoacetylamino benzothiazole are dissolved in 30 parts of water and 2 parts of 36.1 Bé sodium hydroxide solution. Gradually pouring a solution of the diazo obtained by diazotizing a solution of 2.3 parts of 1-hydroxy-2-amino-4-amino-sulfamido-benzene in 50 parts of water and 2,
5 parts of hydrochloric acid at 220 Bé by addition between 0O C and -I-50 C of 5 parts by volume of a solution of sodium nitrite 2N. The alkalinity of the medium by adding a solution of sodium carbonate. Stirred for another hour at 30-40.1 C, then the precipitated yellow dye is filtered, washed with a little cold water and dried at 60 ° C.
A solution of one part of the colorant obtained above in 50 parts of water to which sodium hydroxide solution has been added so that the pH is close to 10 is brought to the boil under reflux. add 7.5 parts by volume of a sodium cobalt tartrate solution containing 14.75 grams of cobalt per liter. The dye dissolves quickly. When a touch on filter paper no longer turns to acetic acid, it is left to cool and the dye is precipitated by sodium chloride. It is filtered and dried. This dye dyes wool from an ammonium acetate bath in a yellow shade, very fast to light and endowed with good fastness to wet tests.
Example 2 In Example 1, 2-acetoacetylaminobenzothiazole is replaced by 3.2 parts of 2-methylthio-5-chloroacetoacetylamino-6benzothiazole. A solution of 1.2 part of the colorant obtained in 50 parts of water to which sodium hydroxide solution has been added to bring the pH to 10 is boiled under reflux. 7.5 parts by volume are added. 'a sodium chromotartrate solution, containing 10.4 g of chromium per liter.
After 5 hours, the mixture is left to cool and precipitated with sodium chloride and a little sodium bicarbonate. It is filtered and dried. The dye dyes the wool from a neutral bath in orange-yellow.
