Additional patent to the main patent No. 304040. Process for the production of an azo dye. It has been found that a new, valuable, metal-containing azo dye is obtained by using a mixture of the two monoazo dyes having the following formulas
EMI0001.0006
correspond, allows cobalt-releasing agents to act in such a way that a cobalt-containing azo dye is formed which contains one molecule of each of the two starting monoazo dyes bonded to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new cobalt-containing dye forms a dark powder that dissolves in water and dyes wool from a neutral or slightly acidic bath in olive-tinged gray tones.
The two in the present process serving as starting materials monoazo dyes can be made by methods known per se by diazotized 4-amino-3-oxy-1,1'-diphenylsulfone with 1-acetylamino-7-oxynaphthalene and with 1. Acetoacetyl aminobenzene-3-sulfonic acid amide in each case in alkaline medium couples.
i The treatment with the cobalt-releasing agents is carried out according to the present process in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced that has less than one atom of cobalt per molecule of dye in complex. Contains binding. Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out with such cobalt-releasing agents and by such methods which, experience has shown, give complex cobalt compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one atom of cobalt per molecule of dye and / or to carry out the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium. Simple cobalt salts, such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate, and, if appropriate, freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxide, are expediently used as the cobalt-releasing agent.
Example: 23 parts of the dye from diazotized 4-amino-3-oxy-1,1'-diphenylsulfone and 1-acetylamino-7-oxynaphthalene and 25.8 parts of the dye from diazotized 4- Amino-3-oxy-1.1'-dinhenyl sulfone and 1-acetoacetylamino-3-sulfonic acid amide, both dyes in the form of a feuehten paste (filter cake), are dissolved in 800 parts of water with the addition of 8.0 parts of sodium hydroxide.
It is now heated to 80 and mixed with 110 parts of a cobalt sulfate solution with a cobalt content of 95%. After brief heating to 85, the complex formation is complete. The dye is separated off by neutralizing with dilute acetic acid and adding sodium chloride.
