Process for the production of a cobalt-containing azo dye. It has been found that one arrives at a new, valuable, cobalt-containing azo dye, if one uses the monoazo dye of the foianel

cobaltab, lets the same agent act in such a way that an azo dye containing cobalt is formed
contains two lionoazo dye molecules bound to a liobalt atom in a complex.
The new cobalt-containing dye is a water-soluble brown powder which dissolves, icli in sulphuric acid with orange-yellow, in Na-ti-iui-iicarbonatlösttng with yellow-brown color and wool from slightly alkaline, neutral or weakly acidic bath in full; gray tones of colors good Eclities.
The 1-lonoazo dye which is used as the starting material and corresponds to the above form can be prepared by coupling acetic acid and acid anilide with 11e-1 testicles known per se, e.g. B. by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium iitrite, dianotized? Amino-1-oxvbenzene-4-inethvlsttlfon are produced.
The treatment with the cobalt-releasing agents is carried out according to the present process in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced which contains less than one atom of cobalt in complex bond per molecule of dye. Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out with such cobalt-releasing agents and by such methods which, according to experience, provide complex cobalt compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one, but at least 1/2 atom of cobalt on a molecule of a dye and / or carry out the metalization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium. Cobalt salts such as cobalt sulphate or cobalt acetate are expediently used as cobalt-releasing agents, and if necessary, freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxy d.
Example: 3.75 parts of the dye from diazotized amino-1-oxybenzene-4-methy1sulfone and acetoacetic anilide are dissolved in 300 parts of water and 3.6 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution solved,
The solution, heated to about 80, is mixed with 30 parts of a cobalt sulfate solution with a cobalt content of 1.05% and stirred at 80 to 85 for 30 minutes. After this time, the complex formation is over. It is filtered hot and the filtrate is evaporated in vacuo.
