Method for the preparation of a m Oxy-plienylarylaininearbonsäui-e. It has been found that m-Oxy-pheiiylarylamitiearborisrittreii is reached when heating m-Oxyplieiiylai, ylainine in the form of their alkali metal salts with carbonic acid under pressure.
The process can be used, for example, to produce carboxylic acids of m-oxydiphonylamitis, and other ni-oxypheiiyiarylaniines can also be used which contain further substituents such as methyl or oxyalkyl groups or chlorine atoms in the aryl radical.
The oxy-phenylarylamine arbotic acids obtained are important intermediates for the production of dyes and are distinguished by their stability, which could not be expected as much as those obtained by the process of German Patent No. 50835 and Carboxylic acids described there, which are derived from m-aminophenol, easily split off the carboxyl group again.
If these m-aminophenolearboxylic acids are heated in a moist state on the water bath, then 1Zoh [eniä (ii-e #, th # #boi) acids do not undergo decomposition even when heated to their melting point.
Since the new acids give the iron chloride reaction, it can be assumed that the carboxyl group is in the ortho position to the OH group and has probably occurred in the para position to the NH group.
The m-oxyphenylarylamines used as starting material for the present process are formed, for example, by condensation of R.esorcinol with arylamines which contain further substituents in the aryl radical, such as methyl or oxacyl groups or chlorine atoms or several of them at the same time .
The present patent now relates to a process for the preparation of an m-oxyphenylarylaminecarboxylic acid, characterized in that an alkali salt of m-oxydiplienylamine is heated with carbonic acid under pressure.
The m-Oxydiphenylamii) carbonsäui-e is a gray-brown powder which, after recrystallization from dilute alcohol, has a melting point of 180-1810 C . Their alcoholic solution gives an intense cherry-red color with dilute iron chloride solution. Example 1:
1850 parts of in-Oxydiphei) ylainiii are mixed with 560 parts of caustic potash and 3000 parts of water in a stirrer Brought into solution in the autoclave and the water is distilled off in vacuo until the potassium salt formed is completely dry. After the reaction mass has been cooled as an egg, carbonic acid is introduced up to a pressure of 10 atmospheres and heated to 1700 for 16 hours. The cooled melt is dissolved in hot water, filtered and the carboxylic acid formed is precipitated with hydrochloric acid.
For further cleaning, it can be redissolved from soda or sodium acetate.
Example 2: 832 parts of in-Oxydiplienylainiti are made with 187.2 parts of caustic soda 96% and. 1700 parts of water were brought into solution in an autoclave equipped with a stirrer and the water was distilled off in vacuo until the sodium salt formed was completely dry.
