Process for the production of a brown pigment of the benzanthrone series. It has been found that by condensation of halogen derivatives of the benzanthrone series with bodies of the 1-aminoanthrachirron-2-aldehyde type, valuable vat dyes are obtained.
Suitable halogen derivatives of the benzanthrone series are mono- and dihalobenzanthrones, their core substitution products, and dihalogen derivatives of 2.
2 'and Bzl. Bzl'-dibenzanthronyl and dibenzarrthronyl sulfides. Bodies of the 1-aminoanthrachirron-2-aldehyde type are 1-aminoanthrachirron-2-aldehyde itself and, for example, azomethines derived therefrom, such as 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehydanil or anthrachirron-1. 2 - isoxazole.
The condensation takes place at higher temperatures, advantageously in the presence of an organic diluent at its boiling point, advantageously with the addition of an acid-binding agent and a catalyst. The chemical composition of the new dyes is unknown. However, it can be assumed that hydrogen halide is initially split off during the reaction and the anthrimides thus formed undergo ring closure with splitting off of water in the further course of the reaction and an acridine or acridine. form an akridon ring by simultaneous oxidation.
The present patent now relates to a process for the preparation of a brown vat dye of the benzanthrone series, characterized in that Bz-1-bromobenzanthrone is condensed with 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde at higher temperatures.
The new dye is a brown powder, soluble in sulfuric acid with a reddish-brown color; which does not change due to the addition of formaldehyde. It forms a dark brown vat, which turns purple when standing, from which cotton is dyed in real brown tones.
Example: 31 kg of Bz-1-bromobenzanthrone and 27 kg of 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde are boiled with 25 kg of potash and 3 kg of copper chloride in 400 kg of nitrobenzene while stirring. After about 8 hours, the separated dye is filtered off with suction, washed with gasoline and alcohol, then with water containing a little ammonia. It can be cleaned by dissolving it in sulfuric acid.
