Description

Process for the production of a brominated vat dye. It has been found that valuable dyes are obtained which are distinguished in comparison to the starting materials by a shade shifted to blue and improved chlorine fastness of the dyeings obtained therewith, if acylamino group-containing alkaline condensation products from benzanthronyl-l-aminoanthraquinones of a bromination Subjected under mild conditions.

The present patent now relates to a process for the production of a brominated vat dye, characterized in that the vat dye obtainable by the process according to the patent claim of Swiss patent no. 150007 is bromine in amounts that are a slight excess over that for the entry of 2 atoms of bromine represent the required amount.

The new dye dissolves in sulfuric acid with a green color and dyes cotton from a blue-violet vat in blue-tinged olive tones of great fastness, especially to chlorine. Example: 25 kg of the dye, obtained according to Swiss patent no.

150007 by action of benzoyl chloride on the condensation product, obtained by treating Bz-l-benzanthronyl-l-amino-5-amino-anthraquinone with alkaline agents, are finely divided with a solution of 16 kg of bromine in about 200 kg Glacial acetic acid is added in the presence of 25 kg of sodium acetate and a small amount of iodine, and the mixture is then stirred for a long time. The reaction mass is then heated to the boil and refluxed for another 3 hours.

After suctioning off and washing off, a dye is obtained which contains approximately 11-12% bromine.
