Abstract
um processo para a produção de ácido glicólico ou um derivado do mesmo compreende: reagir formaldeído com monóxido de carbono e água em um reator de carbonilação na presença de um catalisador de enxofre, o dito reator operando sob condições adequadas, de modo que ácido glicólico é formado; recuperar uma primeira corrente de produto compreendendo ácido glicólico, impurezas e uma espécie de enxofre no reator de carbonilação; passar a primeira corrente de produto para um reator de esterificação onde ela é submetida a esterificação para formar um glicolato de alquila e em que a esterificação é catalisada pela espécie de enxofre recuperada na primeira corrente de produto; recuperar uma segunda corrente de produto que compreende o glicolato de alquila, a espécie de enxofre e as impurezas do reator de esterificação; separar a espécie de enxofre da segunda corrente de produto e reciclá-la para o reator de carbonilação na etapa (a) para formar uma segunda corrente de produto com enxofre empobrecido; separar o glicolato de alquila a partir da segunda corrente de produto com enxofre empobrecido em uma zona de destilação; e recuperar o glicolato de alquila e converter o glicolato de alquila em ácido glicólico.
