Abstract
"PROCEDIMENTO PARA DESLIGAR UM SISTEMA DE CéLULA COMBUSTìVEL EM OPERAçãO". Um sistema de célula combustível (100) é desligado pela desconexão da carga primária (148), interrupção do fluxo de ar (139), e controle do fluxo de combustível (141) para o sistema (incluindo interromper o fluxo de combustível) e o fluxo de gás para fora do sistema de uma maneira que resulte nos gases de célula de combustível atingirem um equilíbrio através das células a uma composição de gás de pelo menos 0,0001% de hidrogênio (em volume), e, de preferência entre 1,0% e menos do que 4,0% de hidrogênio, em volume, com um resíduo de nitrogênio e possivelmente outros gases inertes e não prejudiciais à célula de combustível, todo o oxigênio tendo sido consumido pela reação com o hidrogênio dentro da célula. A composição do gás é mantida dentro das células por todo o desligamento, como pela adição de hidrogênio para substituir qualquer que tenha sido consumido pela reação com ar vazando para as células durante o período de desligamento. Este procedimento de desligamento não causa, virtualmente, nenhuma perda de desempenho da célula.
