<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The present brief !; The subject of the invention is a process for the exterior cleaning of metal drums and a device suitable for its production, according to the main patent mentioned above, characterized in that in a new embodiment of the process, a container in the form of a bowl to bottom. triangular, the side walls of which are provided on the one hand and on the outside with pivots articulated on the uprights of a frame and, on the other hand, on their upper edges with bearings between which a shaft controlled by a motor placed on a frame fixed externally on the rear face of said tray, which shaft is provided with toothed wheels engaged with endless chains provided with detachable links,
allowing them to be lengthened or shortened according to the needs and intended to keep suspended by allowing its rotation, the metal barrel being treated on and in an abrasive material and by their translational movement, forcing it to turn on the material envisaged, filling the lower part of the tank, for the purpose of cleaning its outer cylindrical face and the bottoms.
Other characteristic details will be mentioned during the description of the description and the operation of the machine envisaged in the patent prevet, with the aid of the appended schematic drawings which represent in one embodiment of such a machine in accordance with to the present patents
Fig. 1 a front elevational view of the metal drum cleaning machine.
Fig. 2, a side elevational view of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3, a plan view of a construction detail.
Fig. 4, a section in horizontal direction along IV-IV, FIG. 2.
Fig. 5, an elevational view of a construction detail.
Referring to the figures above, 1 designates the pan or pan with a triangular bottom, 3 represents the side faces and 2 the upper edges of the faces 3, the representing the rear rear face of the pan 1, supported by the pivots or journals 17 engaged on the upper ends of the uprights or columns 18 integral with a frame 19 bearing on the ground 31.
In the upper part of the edges 2 of the tank 1 are fixed the bearings 4 between which is disposed the shaft 5 on one of the outer ends of which is wedged a drive pulley 8 on which passes a belt 9 driven by the drive pulley 10 of the shaft of a motor 11 fixed, for example, on cross members 12 integral with the rear wall 1a of the tank 1.
On the shaft 5 are wedged the pinions 6 engaged with endless chains 7 with detachable ridges making it possible to lengthen or shorten them, depending on the diameter of the metal barrel to be treated which in the example is represented by 16 and is suspended by the chains 7 which surround it, see Fig. 1 and 2.
The bottom of tank 1 is filled with an abrasive material 29 suitable as described in the main patent, advantageously immersed in water with or without the addition of detergent and reaching for example level 30 in tank 1. By 25 , is shown a perforated sheet disposed above the bottom and allowing the fine particles coming from the disintegration of the material 29 rubbing on the drum 16, and the impurities or dirt detached from the drum 16 in treatment, to spread into the space 28, from where they can be easily removed as will be explained in what follows.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
On the shaft 5 are freely engaged bushings 13 joined by an arm (the U-shaped hand actuator 14 on which are arranged, see Fig. 3, rollers 15 intended, see Fig. 2, to press on the shaft. drum 16, rotated by endless chains 7 to force, if necessary by weighing on 14, the contact of the drum 16 on the material 29 and thus increase the effect of the cleaning action. do not wish to use this device, it is folded backwards following arrow a, see Fig. 2.
As the container is suspended by the journals 17 and as the load on the container is exerted to the left of the X - Y axis, it is necessary to provide a device making it possible to maintain the container 1 in the position shown in solid lines. To this end, provision is made, see particularly FIGS.
4 and 5, fixing on one or on the two side walls 3 a threaded stud 20 capable of engaging in the notch 21 of a plate 22 fixed at 24 on the uontant or column 18, and comprising at the ends of the edges or projections 23 forming a stop for the locking nut 25 operated by the flywheel 26 so that, during trepidations if there was a loosening of the nut 25, the threaded stud 20 can only escape from the notch 21 if the nut 25 is sufficiently unscrewed so that it can no longer be retained by 23 and can with its flywheel 26, for example, occupy position 1 ', 2', 3 ', shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, while the latter is only desirable when it is desired to empty or clean the tank. This position 1 ', 2', 3 'of the tank allows the discharge on the ground 31 of the used abrasive materials and sludge.
The machine is operated as follows:
The maneuvering arm being thrown back and the tank 1 being in the position shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the drum 16 is placed between and on the chains 7 so that it rests on the abrasive material 29 and the motor 11 is started. By the rotation of the shaft 5, the barrel 1 is driven by the chains 7 in a rotational movement and its entire exterior surface, including the bottoms, is automatically cleaned.
In the event that the weight of the barrel is not sufficient to obtain cleaning by its friction on the abrasive material, the operating arm 14 can be folded forward as shown in FIG. 2, by hand weighing on 14, to accentuate the friction action.
When the operation is finished, the barrel 1 is removed and it is replaced by the next one of the same type or for example different in diameter. In this case, the length of the endless chains 7 will be adjusted accordingly.
When it is desired to remove the abrasive material 29 in order to renew it and / or to remove the sludge and dirt accumulated in 28 below the perforated sheet or mesh 27, the nut 25 will be unscrewed by its handwheel 26 and automatically the tray 1 will tilt forwards occupying the position 1 ', 2', 3 ', which will allow the dumping on the ground of the abrasive material 29 and the possibility of scraping by a suitable tool, the es- pace 28 where the residue to be removed could be accumulated.
Once the operation is complete, the tray 1 is brought back to its working position and it is wedged by the handwheel 26 tightening the nut 25 of the stud 20 integral with the tray 1 on the notched face 21 of the solid plate 22. from 18.
It goes without saying that it is possible to install below the tank 1, a heating ramp provided for this purpose with burners to heat the liquid contained in the tank in order to activate the intensity of the cleaning.
During the exterior cleaning operation, the interior may be cleaned by inserting through the plug 32, for example chains of appropriate conformity or the equivalent with or without addition

liquid,
It will be recalled that the abrasive material may consist of crushed quarry stoneware, steel or hard cast iron shot, crushed glass, etc.
In summary, it is necessary to consider as coming within the scope of the field of the present patent, a process for the exterior cleaning of metal drums and a device suitable for its realization, characterized by the following.
CLAIMS,
1. Method for the exterior cleaning of metal drums, according to the main patent of September 9, 1954, characterized in that the metal drum is arranged so as to rest on a suitable abrasive material advantageously immersed in water. with or without the addition of a detergent material in a tank in which it is held and suspended by endless chains animated by a translational movement, imparting to the drum a rotation on the abrasive material envisaged, with the intervention of a appropriate mechanism.
