Abstract

Una película de UHMWPE que tiene una resistencia a la traccion de al menos 2,0 GPa, una energía de traccion a la ruptura de al menos 30 j/g. un peso molecular de al menos 500.000 gramos/mol, y una relacion Pm/Mn de al menos 6, y un ancho de película de al menos 5 mm. En una realizacion preferida la película tiene un ancho de al menos 10 mm, en particular al menos 20 mm, incluso con mayor particularidad al menos al menos 40 nm, y un denier de al menos 3.000 dtex, en particular al menos 5.000 dtex, con mayor particularidad al menos 10.000 dtex incluso con mayor particularidad al menos 15.000 dtex, o aun al menos 20.000 dtex. La película puede producirse mediante un proceso el cual comprende someter un UHMWPE con un peso molecular promedio de al menos 500.000 gramos/mol, un modulo de elasticidad que se determina directamente después de fundir a 160sC de como máximo 1,4 MPa, y una relacion Pm/Mn de como máximo 6 a un paso de compactacion y un paso de ensanchamiento en tales condiciones que en ningun punto durante el procesamiento del polímero se eleva su temperatura hasta un valor por encima de su punto de fusion. La película puede utilizarse como material de partida en cualquier aplicacion donde sean importantes la resistencia a la traccion y la elevada energía de traccion a la ruptura. Las aplicaciones adecuadas incluyen aplicaciones balísticas, sogas, cables, redes, telas, y aplicaciones de proteccion.
