Abstract

La presente invención se relaciona con una película de UHPMPE que tiene una resistencia a la tensión de por lo menos 2.0 GPa, una energía de tensión hasta ruptura de por o menos 30 J/g, un Pm de por lo menos 500000 gramos/mol, y una relación Pm/Mn de a lo más 6, y un ancho de película de por lo menos 5 mm. En una realización preferida la película tiene un ancho de por lo menos 10 mm, más en particular por lo menos 20 mm, todavía más en particular por lo menos 40 mm, y un denier de por lo menos 3000 dtex, en particular por lo menos 5000 dtex, más en particular por lo menos 10000 dtex, aún más en particular por lo menos 15000 dtex, o aún por lo menos 20000 dtex. La película se puede fabricar por medio de un proceso que comprende someter un UHPMPE de partida con un peso promedio del peso molecular de por lo menos 500000 gramos/moI, un módulo de corte elástico determinado directamente después de fusión a 160°C de a lo más 1.4 MPa, y una relación Pm/Mn de a lo más 6 en una etapa de compactación y una etapa de estiramiento bajo tales condiciones que en ningún punto durante el procesamiento del polímero su temperatura se eleva a un valor por encima de su punto de fusión. La película se puede utilizar como material de partida en cualesquier aplicaciones en donde son importantes la alta resistencia a la tensión y alta energía hasta ruptura. Las aplicaciones adecuadas incluyen aplicaciones balísticas, cuerdas, cables, redes, telas, y aplicaciones protectoras.
