Definitions
- the present disclosure relates to a wound non-aqueous electrolyte battery.
- Patent Document 1 in manufacturing a non-aqueous electrolyte battery using a lithium-aluminum alloy as a negative electrode, a lithium-aluminum alloy foil having a lithium content of 80 atomic% or more is cut into a rectangular shape, and a rectangular lithium- By putting aluminum alloy flakes into a negative electrode can and rolling, it is possible to manufacture a non-aqueous electrolyte battery with good productivity and good load characteristics until the end of discharge.
- Patent Literature 2 discloses a negative electrode in which lithium is used as an active material and aluminum is placed on the surface of lithium on the positive electrode side, which is used in an organic electrolyte primary battery. Lithium diffuses to the aluminum side and electrochemically forms a LiAl alloy. By using aluminum that has not been annealed at all or only slightly after rolling represented by temper symbol H 16 or H 28 according to JIS H 0001, internal resistance is low and pulse discharge is performed. It is said that a battery with excellent characteristics can be obtained.
- Patent Document 3 discloses that a porous aggregate of light metal powder particles or light metal alloy powder particles (for example, LiAl alloy particles) having an average particle size of 10 to 300 ⁇ m is used as a negative electrode to improve the heavy load characteristics of a non-aqueous electrolyte battery. I am proposing to improve it.
- light metal powder particles or light metal alloy powder particles for example, LiAl alloy particles
- the LiAl alloy negative electrode is crimped into the negative electrode can by rolling the LiAl alloy negative electrode in the negative electrode can.
- This method is difficult to apply to a battery using a rotary electrode group.
- cracks are likely to occur at the grain boundaries of the LiAl alloy when the negative electrode is rolled into the negative electrode can, which may lead to deterioration in discharge characteristics.
- the LiAl alloy is pulverized, and gaps exist at the interfaces of the LiAl alloy particles.
- a deep discharge state for example, a depth of discharge (DOD) of 90% or more
- this gap widens, and the electrical connection path between particles is easily cut.
- the conductivity of the negative electrode is lowered in the final stage of discharge, and the output characteristics at low temperatures may be lowered.
- the battery described in Patent Document 3 also has gaps between the LiAl alloy particles, so that the output characteristics at low temperature may decrease in the final stage of discharge.
- a wound-type nonaqueous electrolyte battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte.
- the negative electrode includes a lithium-aluminum alloy sheet, and the surface of the lithium-aluminum alloy sheet has a continuous flat plane through grain boundaries.
- the sum ⁇ G i of the number of grain boundaries G i crossing M line segments PQ i connecting the points P i and Q i on the surface of the lithium-aluminum alloy sheet is M lines
- the average grain boundary number N obtained as ⁇ G i / ⁇ L i divided by the total ⁇ L i of the length L i of the component PQ i is 8.75 or less (M is an integer greater than 1, i is 1 ⁇ i ⁇ integer that satisfies M).
- FIG. 1 is a diagram showing an enlarged micrograph of the surface of a negative electrode used in a non-aqueous electrolyte battery according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
- FIG. 2 is a front view of a partial cross-section of a non-aqueous electrolyte battery according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
- FIG. 3 shows the relationship between the average grain boundary number (G ⁇ +G ⁇ ) / 2 of the lithium-aluminum alloy sheet used for the negative electrode of the non-aqueous electrolyte battery according to one embodiment of the present disclosure and the voltage V 1 after pulse discharge. It is a figure which shows.
- a wound-type nonaqueous electrolyte battery according to an embodiment of the present disclosure (hereinafter sometimes simply referred to as a “nonaqueous electrolyte battery”) includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode and a non-aqueous electrolyte.
- the negative electrode includes a lithium-aluminum alloy sheet (LiAl alloy sheet).
- a wound-type non-aqueous electrolyte battery usually includes a wound-type electrode group formed by spirally winding a strip-shaped positive electrode and a strip-shaped negative electrode with a separator interposed therebetween.
- the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet has a continuous flat plane through the grain boundaries of the LiAl alloy. As a result, the electrical connection between the LiAl alloy particles can be maintained even at the end of the discharge.
- the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet is formed by connecting exposed surfaces of LiAl alloy particles separated by grain boundaries. Normally, the exposed surfaces of the LiAl alloy particles are not parallel to each other, and the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet has fine irregularities. Moreover, when the LiAl alloy sheet is porous, gaps exist between the LiAl alloy particles.
- the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet is composed of continuous flat planes through grain boundaries means that, firstly, the LiAl alloy sheet is not porous, and there are substantially no gaps between the LiAl alloy particles. means that In this case, the exposed surfaces of the LiAl alloy particles are connected via grain boundaries, and the surface of one LiAl alloy sheet is formed as a whole. Second, the exposed surfaces of each of the LiAl alloy particles are substantially parallel and substantially coplanar. This means that the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet has substantially no unevenness and the surface is flat.
- the arithmetic mean roughness Ra defined in JIS B 0061:2001 may be 0.8 ⁇ m or less or 0.4 ⁇ m or less.
- lithium tends to be preferentially consumed from the LiAl alloy sheet near the grain boundary. If the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet has fine dents or gaps due to grain boundaries, lithium is preferentially consumed from the dented portions during discharge, and the depth of the dents is deep or the gaps are widened. may break the electrical connection between them.
- the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet is composed of continuous flat planes through grain boundaries, the thickness of the LiAl alloy sheet is uniformly thinned over the entire surface area during discharge. , discharge proceeds uniformly. As a result, the LiAl alloy sheet remains thin even at the end of the discharge, and it is considered that the electrical connection between the LiAl alloy particles is maintained.
- L (mm) be the length of the straight line segment PQ.
- the points P and Q are preferably selected such that the length L is greater than or equal to 1 mm.
- the metal structure on the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet is observed with a microscope or the like, and grain boundaries are obtained by image processing of the photographed image. Find the number G of grain boundaries in the lithium-aluminum alloy crossing the segment PQ. Specifically, a plurality of M sets of points P i , Q i (points P 1 , Q 1 , points P 2 , Q 2 , . . .
- points P M , Q M are selected (M is an integer greater than 1, i is an integer that satisfies 1 ⁇ i ⁇ M).

- the average grain boundary number N is preferably 3.12 or more and 8.75 or less, more preferably 3.12 or more and 7.5 or less, and further preferably 3.12 or more and 6.25 or less. .
- the average grain boundary number N is 8.75 or less, the total length of the grain boundaries in the LiAl alloy sheet is sufficiently small to prevent the grain boundaries from becoming a resistance component and increasing the internal resistance of the non-aqueous electrolyte battery. can be suppressed. Therefore, high output characteristics can be maintained even at the end of discharge.
- FIG. 1 shows an example of an enlarged micrograph (SEM image) of the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet that is the negative electrode used in the non-aqueous electrolyte battery according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
- White portions in the figure represent grain boundaries Lg.
- a 1.28 mm x 0.96 mm rectangular area on the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet is selected.
- This rectangular area has two diagonals ⁇ , ⁇ .
- the number of grain boundaries of the lithium-aluminum alloy crossing one diagonal line ⁇ is G ⁇
- the number of grain boundaries of the lithium-aluminum alloy crossing the other diagonal line ⁇ is G ⁇
- the length of the diagonal lines ⁇ and ⁇ is L (mm) and by.
- the average grain boundary number N can be obtained by the following formula.
- N (G ⁇ + G ⁇ )/(2 L) Since the length L of the diagonals ⁇ and ⁇ is 1.6 mm, if (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 is 14 or less, the average grain boundary number N satisfies 8.75 or less, and the output even at the end of the discharge It can maintain high characteristics. Therefore, when (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 is 14 or less, the average grain boundary number N is 8.75 or less. (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 is preferably 5 or more and 14 or less, more preferably 5 or more and 12 or less, or 5 or more and 10 or less.

Specifically, high output characteristics can be maintained at a deeper depth of discharge (for example, a depth of discharge of 95% or more).
- a LiAl alloy sheet that satisfies the above relationship of the average grain boundary number N (or the relationship of G ⁇ and G ⁇ ) and has a flush plane whose surface is continuous through the grain boundary is, for example, Li and Al It can be manufactured using an LiAl alloy ingot obtained by cooling a molten liquid. By controlling the cooling rate (that is, solidification rate) of the molten liquid, the average grain boundary number N (or (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2) of the ingot can be controlled to a desired value.
- a LiAl alloy ingot is formed into a sheet having a desired thickness by, for example, extrusion molding to obtain a LiAl alloy sheet.
- Extrusion forms a continuous flat plane through grain boundaries on the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet.
- can be controlled, and the grain boundary aspect ratio A can be controlled to a desired value.
- the flush plane continuous through the grain boundary occupies 80% or more of the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet. Specifically, when randomly selecting 10 arbitrary 1.28 mm ⁇ 0.96 mm regions on the surface of the LiAl alloy sheet, 8 or more regions satisfy the above average grain boundary number N relationship. It is preferable to have
- the Al content in the LiAl alloy is preferably 0.3% by mass or more and 1.0% by mass or less.
- the average grain boundary number N (or (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2) can be decreased, but the grain boundary aspect ratio A tends to increase.
- the average grain boundary number N is set to 8.75 or less (or (G ⁇ + G ⁇ ) / 2 to 14 below) becomes difficult to make smaller. If the Al content exceeds 1.0% by mass, it is necessary to slow down the cooling rate of the molten liquid more than necessary in order to obtain a LiAl alloy with a small average grain boundary number N, resulting in a decrease in production efficiency.
- the LiAl alloy sheet is preferably not rolled, apart from the above extrusion. Rolling may cause fine cracks in the LiAl alloy sheet. As a result, gaps are generated between the LiAl alloy particles, and the gaps widen with discharge. The widening of the gaps may cut the electrical connection paths between the particles, degrading the output characteristics at low temperatures.
- the LiAl alloy sheet that has not been rolled it is possible to suppress the deterioration of the output characteristics even at the end of the discharge, and to improve the output characteristics at low temperatures.

Batteries A1 to A4 are examples, and batteries B1 to B4 are comparative examples. Table 1 shows the Al content of the LiAl alloy sheet in each battery, G ⁇ , G ⁇ , (G ⁇ + G ⁇ )/2,
- the voltage V1 after pulse discharge decreased to 1 V or less, and the output characteristics at low temperature decreased significantly.
- FIG. 3 is a graph plotting the relationship between (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 and voltage V 1 after pulse discharge for batteries A1 to A4, B1 and B2. As shown in FIG. 3, when (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 exceeds 14, the voltage V 1 after pulse discharge drops sharply, and the drop in output characteristics at low temperatures remarkably appears. However, when (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 is less than 14, the voltage V 1 after pulse discharge maintains a high voltage of 1.8 V or higher.
- (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 becomes smaller, it is necessary to cool the molten liquid slowly over a long period of time in producing an ingot of the LiAl alloy, resulting in a decrease in production efficiency.
- (G ⁇ +G ⁇ )/2 is preferably 5 or more (the average grain boundary number N is 3.12 or more) from the viewpoint of suppressing an increase in battery manufacturing cost.
- Lithium primary batteries A5 and A6 for testing were produced in the same manner as battery A3 except for this, and evaluated in the same manner.
- the extrusion speed was changed from 50 m/min to 150 m/min. In Battery A6, the extrusion speed was changed to 100 m/min. As the extrusion speed increases, the difference between G ⁇ and G ⁇ increases and the grain boundary aspect ratio increases.
- the lithium primary battery immediately after assembly was subjected to constant current discharge at 25°C and 2.5 mA until the depth of discharge (DOD) reached 95% (discharge 2).
- the battery after discharge 2 was placed in an environment of -30°C. After that, the battery was discharged with a pulse current of 300 mA for 1 second , and the battery voltage (closed circuit voltage) V2 after pulse discharge was measured.
- Table 2 shows the evaluation results.
- Table 2 shows the Al content of the LiAl alloy sheet in each battery, G ⁇ , G ⁇ , (G ⁇ + G ⁇ )/2,
- the voltage V 2 after pulse discharge in an environment of -30 ° C. could be maintained at 1.8 V or higher.
- Table 3 shows the evaluation results.
- Table 3 shows the Al content of the LiAl alloy sheet in each battery, G ⁇ , G ⁇ , (G ⁇ + G ⁇ )/2,
- the non-aqueous electrolyte battery of the present disclosure has high energy density and excellent discharge characteristics, so it can be suitably used, for example, as the main power source and memory backup power source for various meters.

Abstract
