- Toshiba SCiB shown in Non-Patent Document 1 (Toshiba Review Vol.71 No.2 pp44) supports charging equivalent to 20C, and there is a battery that can be charged to nearly 100% in a few minutes. being developed.
- an active material represented by the general formula Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 disclosed in Patent Document 1 JP-A-6-275263), for example, is used for the negative electrode. Since it is 1.5 V (vs. Li/Li + ) or more, the problem of Li precipitation, which has been a problem with conventional graphite, is completely eliminated in normal charging and discharging. The above problem is particularly important because the overvoltage becomes large at high input.
- Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 has low electronic conductivity, it is necessary to add a conductive aid such as graphite or carbon black to the electrode.
- the original theoretical capacity of Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 is 175 mAh/g, which is lower than the theoretical capacity of graphite, 372 mAh/g. I had a problem.
- Patent Document 2 Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2008-255000 discloses a novel titanium oxide represented by the general formula H 2 Ti 12 O 25 .
- the charge/discharge potential of H 2 Ti 12 O 25 is about 1.5 V (vs. Li/Li + ), which is as high as the conventional spinel-based lithium titanate Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 , so the problem of Li deposition can be avoided.
- Patent Document 2 discloses that the theoretical capacity of Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 is about 175 mAh/g, while the capacity of H 2 Ti 12 O 25 is about 200 to 230 mAh/g. ing.
- Patent Document 3 Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-117416 discloses that a new production method for H 2 Ti 12 O 25 improves the capacity to 270 to 320 mAh/g.
- Patent Document 4 Japanese Patent No. 6030708 discloses a novel titanium oxide represented by the general formula TiNb 2 O 7 .
- TiNb 2 O 7 provides a capacity comparable to that of graphite.
- none of the negative electrode materials have solved the problem of low electronic conductivity of the active material.
- An object of the present invention is to improve the electronic conductivity of the electrode and improve the input/output characteristics in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
- a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte, the active material of which is a transition metal composite oxide containing lithium.
- the negative electrode is composed of titanium oxide particles that are particles of titanium oxide represented by the general formula H 2 Ti 12 O 25 , a binder, and a single carbon of 0.3 wt % or more and 5.0 wt % or less with respect to the titanium oxide. including nanotubes.
- the secondary particle diameter D50 of the titanium oxide particles is 1 ⁇ m or more and 15 ⁇ m or less, and the secondary particle diameter D90 is 50 ⁇ m or less.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery may be configured such that the titanium oxide particles have a specific surface area of 15 m 2 /g or more and 150 m 2 /g or less.
- the electron conductivity of the electrodes is improved and the input/output characteristics are improved.
- a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte, the active material of which is a transition metal composite oxide containing lithium.
- the negative electrode comprises titanium oxide particles that are particles of titanium oxide represented by the general formula H 2 Ti 12 O 25 , a binder, and single carbon nanotubes of 0.3 wt % or more and 5.0 wt % or less with respect to the titanium oxide. and
- the D50 of the secondary particles is preferably 1 ⁇ m or more and 15 ⁇ m or less, and the D90 is 50 ⁇ m or less.
- H 2 Ti 12 O 25 used in this embodiment is formed by granulating primary particles to form secondary particles. If the secondary particle diameter D50 is less than 1 ⁇ m, the dispersibility deteriorates during the preparation of the electrode paste, so it is necessary to add an excessive amount of binder and/or solvent, resulting in a relative decrease in the concentration of the active material. . On the other hand, when the D50 of the secondary particle diameter exceeds 15 ⁇ m or when the D90 exceeds 50 ⁇ m, the smoothness of the electrode sheet is impaired, and the H 2 Ti 12 does not receive the contribution of electron conductivity due to carbon deposition. An increase in the proportion of O 25 may deteriorate the properties.
- H 2 Ti 12 O 25 has a large specific surface area as a negative electrode active material and contributes to the improvement of the utilization rate, but it has poor electronic conductivity, so a large amount of conductive aid such as graphite or carbon black is added. can be considered. Therefore, for the purpose of improving input/output, electrodes added with existing conductive aids such as graphite, carbon black, ketjen black, vapor-grown carbon fiber (VGCF (registered trademark)), and multi-wall carbon nanotubes were used. As a result of examination, it was found that the improvement can be achieved by greatly increasing the amount of the auxiliary agent to 10 wt % or more.
- VGCF vapor-grown carbon fiber
- binders such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyimide, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), and polyacrylic acid all have low electronic conductivity, so increasing them reduces input/output.
- PVDF polyvinylidene fluoride
- SBR styrene-butadiene rubber
- CMC carboxymethylcellulose
- polyacrylic acid all have low electronic conductivity, so increasing them reduces input/output.
- the use of single carbon nanotubes as a conductive aid dramatically improved the input/output characteristics with a low addition amount compared to the above-mentioned existing conductive aids, which could not be achieved with conventional aids. It was found that a large capacity can be obtained.
- single carbon nanotubes cover the surface of H 2 Ti 12 O 25 particles having a large specific surface area, thereby efficiently improving the electron conductivity.
- Conductive agents such as general carbon black are present in large amounts not only on the surface of the active material but also in the spaces between the active materials, so the addition amount must be increased in order to sufficiently increase the above-mentioned surface conductivity. not.
- Most of the multi-wall carbon nanotubes exist on the surface of the active material. difficult to contribute.
- single carbon nanotubes have a long fiber length, even a small amount contributes not only to the surface but also to the conductivity between the active materials as described above, so that the desired characteristics can be satisfied with a small addition amount. Conceivable.
- a method of containing or supporting single carbon nanotubes in H 2 Ti 12 O 25 a method of mixing and adhering single carbon nanotubes to powder of H 2 Ti 12 O 25 by means of a dispersing machine or mechanochemical methods, or There is a method of wet-mixing single carbon nanotubes in a step in which H 2 Ti 12 O 25 or a proton exchanger of lithium titanate obtained in the preceding step is slurried in the production step of 2 Ti 12 O 25 , followed by drying at the same time. mentioned.
- H 2 Ti 12 O 25 or a proton exchanger of lithium titanate obtained in the preceding step is slurried in the production step of 2 Ti 12 O 25 , followed by drying at the same time. mentioned.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having the above structure has improved electron conductivity of the electrodes and improved input/output characteristics.
- the specific surface area of the active material used for the negative electrode according to the present embodiment is not particularly limited. However, as will be described later, it is preferable to form the negative electrode using a binder containing an active material having a specific surface area of 15 m 2 /g or more and 150 m 2 /g or less.
- H 2 Ti 12 O 25 has low electronic conductivity like Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 and has a specific surface area several times larger than that of Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 . Also, the surface area of H 2 Ti 12 O 25 is ten times or more as large as that of graphite which is commonly used.
- H 2 Ti 12 O 25 Although a preferred process for producing H 2 Ti 12 O 25 will be described later, it is preferable to mix a titanium raw material and a lithium raw material and synthesize lithium titanate as a precursor at a relatively low temperature by a hydrothermal synthesis method. - the solvent used for washing may be water or an inorganic acid such as low-concentration hydrochloric acid or nitric acid.
- the washed lithium titanate is dried by a known method such as a box dryer or a spray dryer.
- the lithium titanate obtained in the lithium titanate synthesis step is heat treated.
- This heat treatment removes solvent molecules intruding into the crystal structure of lithium titanate .
- Li 2 TiO 3 with a system crystal structure By having a composite crystal structure, the arrangement of lattice sites of titanium atoms becomes irregular compared to Li 2 TiO 3 having a single structure of rocksalt type crystal structure or monoclinic crystal structure. For this reason, Li 2 TiO 3 with this composite structure, compared to Li 2 TiO 3 with a single structure, during the dehydration process in the subsequent heat treatment process of the lithium titanate proton exchanger, anatase, rutile, etc. It becomes difficult to change to titanium dioxide.
- the lithium titanate heat treatment step is performed in air or in an inert gas atmosphere such as nitrogen or argon.
- the heat treatment temperature is preferably 100° C. or higher and 600° C. or lower. At a firing temperature of less than 100°C, the phase change from the rock salt crystal structure to the monoclinic crystal structure does not proceed easily, and at temperatures exceeding 600°C, most of the rock salt crystal structure changes to the monoclinic crystal structure. . More preferably, the heat treatment temperature is from 200°C to 500°C. Also, the heat treatment time is preferably between 0.5 hours and 100 hours, more preferably between 1 hour and 30 hours.
- lithium in the heat-treated lithium titanate is exchanged for protons. That is, by immersing the heat-treated lithium titanate in an acidic aqueous solution and applying a proton exchange reaction, a proton-exchanger of lithium titanate in which almost all of the lithium in the heat-treated lithium titanate is exchanged with hydrogen can be obtained. At this time, it is preferable to disperse the lithium titanate in an acidic aqueous solution, retain it for a certain period of time, separate it by filter filtration, centrifugation, or the like, and dry it.
- the acid used in the lithium/proton exchange step is preferably an aqueous solution of any concentration containing one or more of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid, more preferably dilute hydrochloric acid with a concentration of 0.1N to 1.0N.

- a known method such as a box dryer or a spray dryer can be used.
- a conductive aid such as carbon may be mixed and added to the proton exchange body before drying.
- the mixed addition of the conductive aid may be carried out by making the proton exchanger into a slurry and stirring and mixing. If necessary, a dispersant may be added or a dispersing machine may be used.
- the proton exchanger heat treatment step the lithium titanate proton exchanger obtained in the lithium/proton exchange step is heat treated. By heat treatment, the dehydration reaction of the proton exchanger proceeds to obtain titanium oxide H 2 Ti 12 O 25 .
- the atmosphere of the heat treatment includes air, an inert gas atmosphere such as nitrogen or argon, a hydrogen gas-containing atmosphere, or under reduced pressure, and the inert gas atmosphere or reduced pressure atmosphere is preferable.
- the temperature of the heat treatment is preferably 200° C. or higher and 600° C. or lower, and more preferably 260° C. or higher and 500° C. or lower.
- the heat treatment time is usually 0.5 to 100 hours, preferably 1 to 30 hours. Firing in an atmosphere containing oxygen and firing at a high temperature of 600 ° C. or higher promotes the formation of side reactions such as anatase and rutile, so the above heat treatment atmosphere, temperature, and time should be performed. is preferred.
- H 2 Ti 12 O 25 obtained by the proton exchange body heat treatment step shows a peak at the same peak position as in Patent Document 3 (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2008-255000) in powder XRD measurement using Cu-K ⁇ as a radiation source. It is good if there is Also, the peak intensity ratios may be different. The difference in the peak intensity ratio is due to the fact that the crystal growth of a specific crystal plane has become poor due to the refinement of the primary particles. The peak derived from the (020) plane that appears has a significantly weak intensity, or overlaps with neighboring peaks and becomes difficult to distinguish. A small amount of titanium dioxide such as anatase and rutile may be contained in H 2 Ti 12 O 25 as an impurity in some cases.
- the content of titanium dioxide in H 2 Ti 12 O 25 is determined by the peak height I 0 appearing near 28° of the (003) plane of H 2 Ti 12 O 25 obtained by powder XRD measurement, and the main peak of titanium dioxide ( It is calculated by the ratio I 1 /I 0 of the peak height I 1 of the (101) plane appearing around 25° in anatase and the (110) plane appearing around 27° in rutile.
- the peak height is the height from the base to the apex of the peak, based on a straight line connecting the heights of the local minimum points before and after the peak.
- I 1 /I 0 of H 2 Ti 12 O 25 is preferably 5 times or less, more preferably 3 times or less.
