Abstract
【課題】エアバッグの膨張展開時にハウジングを開きやすくすることが可能なエアバッグモジュールを提供することを目的とする。 【解決手段】本発明にかかるエアバッグモジュール100の構成は、折り畳まれたまたは巻回されたエアバッグクッション102と、エアバッグクッション102に内蔵されたインフレータ104と、エアバッグクッション102を収納する箱型のハウジング110とを備えるエアバッグモジュールにおいて、ハウジングは、上側が開口になっている4つの側壁112・114・116・118と、4つの側壁のうち1つの側壁とその両側に位置する2つの側壁とをつないでいてエアバッグクッションが膨張展開する前は折り畳まれた状態になっていてエアバッグクッションが膨張展開する際に広がることにより4つの側壁の上側の開口が広がる2つの伸縮壁120a・120bとを有することを特徴とする。
Description
本発明は、エアバッグクッションを収納する箱型のハウジングを備えるエアバッグモジュールに関するものである。
近年の車両にはエアバッグ装置がほぼ標準装備されている。エアバッグ装置は、車両衝突などの緊急時に作動する安全装置であって、ガス圧で膨張展開するエアバッグクッションを利用して乗員を受け止めて保護する。膨張展開前のエアバッグクッションは、折り畳みや巻回などによって小さくまとめられた収納形態となって車両の各所に設置されている。
例えば特許文献1には、ステアリングコラムを覆うコラムカバーの下面側に折り畳まれて収納されるエアバッグと、エアバッグに膨張用ガスを供給するインフレーターとを備えた膝保護用エアバッグ装置が開示されている。特許文献1の膝保護用エアバッグ装置では、インフレーターから吐出された膨張用ガスが流入したエアバッグが、コラムカバー下面側の収納部位から突出して、コラムカバーの下面側を覆うように展開膨張する。これにより、運転者の両膝を保護可能であるとしている。
緊急時には、エアバッグを迅速に膨張展開させる必要がある。しかしながら、ハウジングが開きづらいと、エアバッグの膨張展開に支障が生じたり、エアバッグを所望のタイミングで膨張展開させたりすることが難しくなる。このため、ハウジングをより開きやすくする技術の開発が求められていた。
本発明は、このような課題に鑑み、エアバッグの膨張展開時にハウジングを開きやすくすることが可能なエアバッグモジュールを提供することを目的としている。
上記課題を解決するために、本発明にかかるエアバッグモジュールの代表的な構成は、折り畳まれたまたは巻回されたエアバッグクッションと、エアバッグクッションに内蔵されたインフレータと、エアバッグクッションを収納する箱型のハウジングとを備えるエアバッグモジュールにおいて、ハウジングは、上側が開口になっている4つの側壁と、4つの側壁のうち1つの側壁とその両側に位置する2つの側壁とをつないでいてエアバッグクッションが膨張展開する前は折り畳まれた状態になっていてエアバッグクッションが膨張展開する際に広がることにより4つの側壁の上側の開口が広がる2つの伸縮壁とを有することを特徴とする。
上記構成によれば、膨張展開するエアバッグクッションによって伸縮壁が広がり、ハウジングの上側の開口が広がる。その結果、エアバッグクッションの膨張展開時にハウジングの開口が開きやすくなる。このようにハウジングが開きやすいことにより、エアバッグクッションの展開速度を速めることができる。これにより、展開挙動が安定し、より早く乗員を拘束できるため、乗員傷害値を低下することが可能となる。またハウジングが開きやすいことで、エアバッグクッションの展開時の内圧低下によるクッション耐性の向上を図ることができる。これにより、クッション基布量の低下やハウジングの板厚低減が見込めるため、コストの削減を図ることが可能となる。
上記2つの伸縮壁の各々は、蛇腹状に折り畳まれているとよい。かかる構成によれば、エアバッグクッションの膨張展開時に伸縮壁を好適に広がらせることが可能となる。
上記2つの伸縮壁の各々は、上記の1つの側壁の縁に沿った第1の辺と、上記の2つの側壁のいずれかの縁に沿った第2の辺と、第1の辺および第2の辺の上端同士を結ぶ第3の辺とで構成される三角形状を有するとよい。このような構成によっても、エアバッグクッションの膨張展開時に伸縮壁を良好に広がらせることができる。
本発明によれば、エアバッグの膨張展開時にハウジングを開きやすくすることが可能なエアバッグモジュールを提供することができる。
以下に添付図面を参照しながら、本発明の好適な実施形態について詳細に説明する。かかる実施形態に示す寸法、材料、その他具体的な数値などは、発明の理解を容易とするための例示に過ぎず、特に断る場合を除き、本発明を限定するものではない。なお、本明細書及び図面において、実質的に同一の機能、構成を有する要素については、同一の符号を付することにより重複説明を省略し、また本発明に直接関係のない要素は図示を省略する。
(第1実施形態)
図1は、本発明の第1実施形態にかかるエアバッグモジュール100のハウジング110の斜視図である。図2は、図1のハウジングを直線A-A断面で切断したときの模式的な断面図である。

なお、本実施形態のエアバッグモジュール100は、乗員の膝部を保護する膝用エアバッグ装置として用いられることを想定している。ただし、これに限定するものではなく、本実施形態のエアバッグモジュール100は、二輪車用エアバッグとして用いることも可能である。
図2は、図1のハウジングを直線A-Aで切断したときの模式的な断面図である。図2では、図1では図示省略しているエアバッグクッション102およびインフレータ104を破線で例示している。図2に例示するように、第1実施形態のエアバッグモジュール100は、エアバッグクッション102、インフレータ104および箱型のハウジング110を備える。インフレータ104は、エアバッグクッション102に内蔵されている。エアバッグクッション102は、折り畳まれたまたは巻回された状態でハウジング110に収納されている。
図1に例示するように、ハウジング110は、上側が開口110aになっている4つの側壁112・114・116・118、および2つの伸縮壁120a・120bを含む。2つの伸縮壁120a・120bは、1つの側壁112とその両側に位置する2つの側壁114・118とをつないでいる。2つの伸縮壁120a・120bは、図1に例示するように、エアバッグクッション102(図2参照)が膨張展開する前は折り畳まれた状態になっている。
図3は、図1のハウジング110の伸縮壁120a・120bが広がった状態を例示する斜視図である。図3に例示するように、2つの伸縮壁120a・120bは、エアバッグクッション102(図2参照)が膨張展開する際に、このように広がる。これにより、4つの側壁112・114・116・118の上側の開口が広がる。
上記構成によれば、エアバッグクッション102の膨張展開時にハウジング110の開口が開きやすくなる。このようにハウジング110が開きやすいことにより、エアバッグクッション102の展開速度を速めることができる。これにより、展開挙動が安定し、より早く乗員を拘束できるため、乗員傷害値を低下することが可能となる。
またハウジングが開きやすいことで、エアバッグクッション102の展開時の内圧低下によるクッション耐性の向上を図ることができる。これにより、クッション基布量の低下やハウジング110の板厚低減が見込めるため、コストの削減を図ることが可能となる。
特に第1実施形態のエアバッグモジュール100では、2つの伸縮壁120a・120bは三角形状を有する。2つの伸縮壁120a・120は対称的な形状を有するため、それらを代表して、伸縮壁120aを用いて、以下詳細に説明する。図3に示すように、伸縮壁120aは、側壁112の縁に沿った第1の辺126と、側壁114の縁に沿った第2の辺124と、第1の辺126および第2の辺124の上端同士を結ぶ第3の辺122とで構成される三角形状を有する。
上記構成では、2つの伸縮壁120a・120bが上方に向かうにしたがって幅が広がる三角形状である。これにより、エアバッグクッション102の膨張展開時に2つの伸縮壁120a・120bが広がった際、ハウジング110の開口は、上方に向かうにしたがって広くなる。これにより、エアバッグクッション102の展開速度を更に速めることが可能となる。
(第2実施形態)
図4は、本発明の第2実施形態にかかるエアバッグモジュール200のハウジング210の斜視図である。第2実施形態を例示する図4では、第1実施形態と同様の要素に同一の符号を付すことで説明を省略する。エアバッグモジュール200も、図2で例示したようなエアバッグクッション102およびインフレータ104を備えているが、図4ではこれらの図示を省略している。
図4は、本発明の第2実施形態にかかるエアバッグモジュール200のハウジング210の斜視図である。第2実施形態を例示する図4では、第1実施形態と同様の要素に同一の符号を付すことで説明を省略する。エアバッグモジュール200も、図2で例示したようなエアバッグクッション102およびインフレータ104を備えているが、図4ではこれらの図示を省略している。
図4(a)に例示するハウジング210では、2つの伸縮壁220a・220bの各々は、蛇腹状に折り畳まれている。これにより、エアバッグクッション102が膨張展開すると、図4(b)に示すように蛇腹状の伸縮壁220a・220bが長方形状に広がり、4つの側壁112・114・116・118、すなわちハウジング210の上側の開口210aが広がる。したがって、第1実施形態のエアバッグモジュール100と同様の効果を得ることが可能となる。

- 折り畳まれたまたは巻回されたエアバッグクッションと、該エアバッグクッションに内蔵されたインフレータと、該エアバッグクッションを収納する箱型のハウジングとを備えるエアバッグモジュールにおいて、
前記ハウジングは、
上側が開口になっている4つの側壁と、
前記4つの側壁のうち1つの側壁とその両側に位置する2つの側壁とをつないでいて前記エアバッグクッションが膨張展開する前は折り畳まれた状態になっていて前記エアバッグクッションが膨張展開する際に広がることにより前記4つの側壁の上側の開口が広がる2つの伸縮壁とを有することを特徴とするエアバッグモジュール。 - 前記2つの伸縮壁の各々は、蛇腹状に折り畳まれていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエアバッグモジュール。
- 前記2つの伸縮壁の各々は、前記1つの側壁の縁に沿った第1の辺と、前記2つの側壁のいずれかの縁に沿った第2の辺と、前記第1の辺および第2の辺の上端同士を結ぶ第3の辺とで構成される三角形状を有することを特徴とする請求項2に記載のエアバッグモジュール。
