Definitions
- an ink image receiving layer may be formed on a medium such as paper.
- a medium such as paper.
- an inexpensive medium such as plain paper cannot be used, the printing running cost greatly increases. Therefore, conventionally, a method that can reduce the amount of ink discharged to each position on the medium has been desired. Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a printing apparatus and a printing method that can solve the above-described problems.
- ink for color expression with an ink jet printer not only three color inks such as YMC but also a color between these (for example, an intermediate color) has been studied. Further, as the colors during this period, specifically, for example, further use of inks of R (red) color, G (green) color, and B (blue) color has been studied. More specifically, in this case, it is conceivable to perform printing by a seven-color separation method (seven-color separation method), which is a configuration using seven colors of YMCK plus three colors of RGB. By printing with the seven-color separation method, for example, higher-definition printing can be performed. Therefore, as a method capable of reducing the amount of ink discharged to each position on the medium, a method suitable for using such various inks is desired.
- a printing apparatus that performs printing on a medium by an inkjet method, and includes a plurality of inkjet heads that eject ink droplets of different colors by an inkjet method, and a plurality of inkjets facing the medium.
- a head holding unit that holds the head, a main scanning driving unit that causes a plurality of inkjet heads to perform a main scanning operation of ejecting ink droplets while moving relative to the medium in a preset main scanning direction,
- a sub-scanning drive unit that moves the inkjet head relative to the medium in a sub-scanning direction orthogonal to the scanning direction, and the head holding unit includes a plurality of six or more inkjet heads in the main scanning direction.
- the types of inks to be mixed to express various colors can be appropriately reduced.
- the plurality of inkjet heads are further divided into a plurality of columns whose positions in the sub-scanning direction are shifted, thereby ejecting ink droplets to the same position during the same main scanning operation.
- the number of heads can be appropriately reduced. Therefore, if constituted in this way, the amount of ink discharged to each position on the medium can be appropriately reduced, for example.
- various colors can be expressed by mixing two or less types of ink. Therefore, when using six or more colors of ink including YMC and RGB colors, if the ink jet heads are arranged in the first column and the second column, the same pixel position is obtained in each main scanning operation.
- the number of inkjet heads to be ejected can be one or more for each column. Further, in this case, by shifting the positions of the first column and the second column in the sub-scanning direction, ink droplets are not simultaneously ejected from the plurality of inkjet heads to the same pixel position. Therefore, with this configuration, it is possible to more appropriately reduce the amount of ink discharged to each position on the medium.
- Each of the three first basic color heads is, for example, an YMC ink jet head.
- Each of the three second basic color heads is, for example, an inkjet head for each color of RGB. If constituted in this way, various colors can be expressed appropriately and with high definition by, for example, six colors of ink. Also in this case, by disposing the ink jet heads for each color separately in the first row, the second row, and the like, the amount of ink discharged to each position on the medium can be reduced more appropriately.
- a plurality of six or more inkjet heads can be appropriately arranged in a plurality of rows.
- the first basic color head and the second basic color head are arranged in the main scanning direction in any column.
- an ink jet head for a color that does not need to be mixed to express various colors is selected. be able to. Therefore, with this configuration, for example, the amount of ink discharged to each position on the medium can be more appropriately reduced.
- a plurality of rows including at least a second row in which a plurality of inkjet heads are arranged in the main scanning direction at different positions are held in a medium.
- ink droplets are ejected only from two or less inkjet heads in the first row in one main scanning operation for the position of each pixel set in a region facing the plurality of inkjet heads in the first row.
- ink is supplied only from two or less inkjet heads in the second row. Let the drops be ejected. If comprised in this way, the effect similar to the structure 1 can be acquired, for example.
- a plurality of inkjet heads arranged in the first group and a plurality arranged in the second group A first printing mode in which printing is performed using both of the inkjet heads, and a printing in which a plurality of inkjet heads arranged in the first group are used and a plurality of inkjet heads arranged in the second group are not used. 2 print modes can be set.

- FIG. 5A
- the printing apparatus 10 is an ink jet printer that performs color printing by an ink jet method using a plurality of colors of ink.
- Each of the printing apparatuses 10 ejects ink droplets of a plurality of colors to the position of each pixel in a medium (medium) 50 to be printed.
- Various colors are expressed by mixing multiple colors of ink at pixel positions.
- the printing apparatus 10 is an inkjet printer that performs printing by a serial method that causes the inkjet head to perform a main scanning operation (scanning operation), and includes a head unit 12, a carriage 14, a guide rail 16, a platen 18, and a heater. 20, a main scanning drive unit 22, a sub-scanning drive unit 24, and a control unit 26.
- the main scanning operation is, for example, an operation of ejecting ink droplets while moving relative to the medium 50 in a preset main scanning direction (Y direction in the drawing).
- the main scanning direction can be considered as the moving direction of the inkjet head during the main scanning operation.
- the head unit 12 is a part that ejects ink droplets toward the medium 50, and includes a plurality of inkjet heads that eject ink droplets of different colors by an inkjet method. More specifically, in this example, the head unit 12 includes a plurality of six or more inkjet heads. In this case, it is preferable that the head unit 12 has six or more ink-jet heads that eject chromatic ink droplets.
- the chromatic ink droplets are, for example, ink droplets of color ink for coloring used to express various colors.
- these inkjet heads eject ink droplets of ink fixed on the medium 50 by volatilizing and removing the solvent.
- the ink that is fixed to the medium 50 by volatilizing and removing the solvent is, for example, a water-based ink.
- solvent ink or latex ink may be used as such ink.
- the carriage 14 is an example of a head holding unit, and holds a plurality of inkjet heads in the head unit 12 facing the medium 50.
- the guide rail 16 is a rail that guides the movement of the carriage 14 in the main scanning direction.
- the platen 18 is a table-like member that holds the medium 50 so as to face the head portion 12.
- the heater 20 is an example of a fixing unit that fixes ink on the medium 50, and volatilizes and removes the solvent contained in the ink on the medium 50 by heating the medium 50.
- the printing apparatus 10 may include fixing means other than the heater 20 according to the ink to be used.
- an ultraviolet light source for example, UVLED
- a fixing unit that cures the ink with an electron beam may be used.
- solvent UV ink it is conceivable to use a heater 20 and an ultraviolet light source as fixing means.
- the head unit 12 includes, for example, an inkjet head 102y that ejects Y-color ink droplets, an inkjet head 102m that ejects M-color ink droplets, an inkjet head 102c that ejects C-color ink droplets, and K
- An inkjet head 102k that ejects ink droplets of color is included.
- these inkjet heads 102y to 102k have a nozzle row 202 in which a plurality of nozzles are arranged in the sub-scanning direction, and are arranged side by side in the main scanning direction, for example, as shown in the drawing. Accordingly, in each main scanning operation, the plurality of inkjet heads 102 y to 102 k discharge ink droplets to the same region (band region) on the medium 50.
- the fact that the positions in the sub-scanning direction are shifted by a distance equal to or longer than the length of the nozzle row means, for example, that the ink-jet heads in different head rows are arranged so that the positions in the sub-scanning direction do not overlap. That is.
- the plurality of inkjet heads in the head row 100b are sub-scanned with the plurality of inkjet heads in the head row 100a by a distance equal to or longer than the length of the nozzle row of the inkjet head in the head row 100a.
- the positions in the direction are shifted and aligned in the main scanning direction.
- the positions of the inkjet heads in each of the head arrays 100a to 100c can be appropriately shifted with respect to the inkjet heads in the other head arrays.
- the total amount of the three inks is equal to the maximum ink discharge amount in the YMC method and is a value of 100% or less. That is, by using the seven color separation method, for example, all colors can be expressed with an ink ejection amount of 100% or less. As a result, the ink discharge amount can be reduced to about half that of the YMC method on average. Further, the maximum ink discharge amount for each color is the same as the maximum value in the YMC method.
- the primary color ink meter, the secondary color ink meter, and the tertiary color ink meter are 40%, 20%, and 40%. Further, the total ink amount becomes 100%.
- the primary color ink meter, the secondary color ink meter, and the tertiary color ink meter are 60%, 20%, and 20%. Further, the total ink amount becomes 100%.
- the primary color ink meter, the secondary color ink meter, and the tertiary color ink meter are 40%, 0%, and 40%. Further, the total ink amount is 80%.
- the primary color ink meter, the secondary color ink meter, and the tertiary color ink meter are 20%, 0%, and 40%. Further, the total ink amount is 60%.
- the amount of ink ejected simultaneously to the same position is further reduced by determining the arrangement of the ink jet heads using such properties in the seven-color separation system. More specifically, in this case, for example, as described above with reference to FIG. 3, the primary color (YMC), the secondary color (RGB), and the tertiary color (K) for a plurality of inkjet heads. Dividing into three rows, the positions in the sub-scanning direction are shifted.
- the configuration of this example can be said to be a configuration in which bleeding is further less likely to occur than in the case where printing is performed by, for example, a seven-color separation method having a simple configuration.
- the configuration is suitable for high-speed printing. Therefore, this point will be described in more detail below.
- FIG. 6 is a diagram for explaining the configuration of the head unit 12 when printing is performed by the seven-color separation method.
- FIG. 6A is a diagram for explaining the relationship of ink colors used in the seven-color separation method.
- ejecting ink droplets from only one or less inkjet heads at the position of each pixel means, for example, that ink droplets from one inkjet head with respect to the pixel position selected as the pixel from which the ink droplets are ejected. Is to discharge.
- an inkjet head for a color that does not need to be mixed to express various colors is selected as the plurality of inkjet heads arranged in the same head row. Therefore, when any of the inkjet heads 102y to 102c and any of the inkjet heads 102r to 102b are arranged in the same head row, the colors of the ink droplets ejected by the inkjet heads 102r to 102b are YMC colors which are three kinds of primary colors. Among them, the color is between two colors other than the color of the ink droplets ejected by the inkjet heads 102y to 102c in the same head row.
- FIG. 8 as an example of the change in the ink discharge amount, more specifically, the combination of the Y and R color ink discharge amounts and the ink discharge amount are shown.
- the ink discharge amount the ink discharge amount for each of the Y color and the R color and the average ink discharge amount are shown on the assumption that the appearance probabilities are the same regardless of the combination of the inks.
- FIGS. 7 and 8 are diagrams for explaining the same matters as in FIGS. 7 and 8 for other colors.
- FIG. 9 is a diagram for explaining the same matters as FIG. 7 for other colors.
- the sum of Y ink and G ink (Y + G) is 100% constant
- FIG. 10 is a diagram for explaining the same matters as in FIG. 8 for other colors, and the Y-color inkjet head 102y and the G-color inkjet head 102g are arranged in separate head rows and are sub-scanned.
- Y color is mixed with Y color under the condition that the sum of Y ink and G ink (Y + G) is constant at 100%.
- an example of the change in the ejection amount of the G ink is constant at 100%.
- each head in addition to being able to reduce the amount of ink ejected simultaneously to the same position, each head is provided by dividing a plurality of ink jet heads into a plurality of head rows shifted in the sub-scanning direction. It is also possible to dry the ink by using a moving time for moving the inkjet heads in a row relative to the medium. Further, it is possible to more appropriately prevent bleeding caused by mixing different color inks.
- ink can be appropriately dried before ink bleeding occurs, for example, even in a printing apparatus (high speed machine) that performs printing at high speed, printing can be performed more appropriately. Further, for example, even when a non-absorbing medium (non-absorbing medium) having a property of hardly absorbing ink is used, printing can be performed more appropriately. More specifically, for example, even when using non-absorbable media such as plastic, metal, and glass, printing can be performed more appropriately.
- various types of ink can be used in accordance with the properties of the medium. More specifically, for example, various inks such as latex ink, UV ink, solvent UV ink, or aqueous UV ink may be used in combination with various media.
- high color reproducibility can be realized by printing in the 7-color separation system. More specifically, for example, high color reproducibility equivalent to or higher than that of an offset printing machine or the like can be realized by performing printing by a seven color separation method. Thereby, for example, printing with high color reproducibility can be performed at high speed.
- high color reproducibility can be printed on both sides of the medium at high speed and appropriately. This also makes it possible to appropriately perform, for example, printing for applications conventionally performed by an offset printing machine using an inkjet printer.
- FIG. 11B is a diagram illustrating an example of color reproducibility when using actual ink.
- FIG. 11B The example of the relationship between a reflectance and a wavelength is shown.
- a pigment or the like that is a color material included in the ink has characteristics different from that of an ideal ink, for example, as shown in FIG.
- the reproduced color of R color obtained by mixing the Y color and the M color is turbid.
- the four-color separation method the same problem occurs with respect to the reproduction colors of G color and B color.
- each color of RGB can be expressed without mixing a plurality of colors, so that each color of RGB is reproduced by the forward path and the backward path in the bidirectional main scanning operation. There is no difference in color.
- the head unit 12 used in this example is configured so that a plurality of inkjet heads do not eject ink droplets to the same position in the same main scanning operation, as shown in FIG. It is configured. In this case, in each main scanning operation (during one pass), only one color ink lands on the same position for both the primary color (YMC) and the secondary color (RGB).
- each color of YMC and each color of RGB is mainly used as a color ink for expressing various colors
- the color of the ink used as the color ink is not limited to this combination and can be variously changed.
- FIG. 12 is a diagram for explaining a further modified example of the configuration of the head unit 12.
- FIG. 12A shows a further modification of the configuration of the head unit 12. Except as described below, the configuration in FIG. 12 denoted by the same reference numerals as those in FIGS. 1 to 11 may have the same or similar features as the configurations in FIGS.
- a plurality of inkjet heads y to k and r to b are arranged so as to include a configuration in which printing is performed by the four-color separation method.
- the plurality of ink jet heads y to k and r to b are arranged in a plurality of head rows 100a and 100b.
- the inkjet heads y to k for the same color as the inkjet head used when printing by the four-color separation method are located in one head row 100a in the sub-scanning direction. Are arranged side by side in the main scanning direction.
- the inkjet heads r to b used only when printing in the seven-color separation method are arranged in the main scanning direction with the positions in the sub-scanning direction aligned in the other head row 100b.
- the YMC inkjet heads and the RGB inkjet heads do not overlap in the sub-scanning direction within the carriage that moves at the same speed during the main scanning operation. Can be placed properly. In addition, this makes it possible to reduce the amount of ink ejected simultaneously to the same position and appropriately suppress the occurrence of bleeding. In addition, it is possible to appropriately prevent the color overlap between the forward pass and the return pass in the bidirectional main scanning operation. Accordingly, for example, high color reproducibility can be appropriately realized even when printing is performed at high speed by performing a bidirectional main scanning operation. Therefore, even when configured in this manner, for example, high-quality and high-quality images can be appropriately printed at high speed.
- the K ink jet head 102k is the same as in the case shown in FIG. 2A, and the YMC ink jet head 102y.
- the ink-jet head 102k for K color is sufficient even if the position of the ink-jet heads 102y to 102c in the sub-scanning direction is shifted. It is considered that a good compatibility can be obtained. Therefore, the position of the inkjet head 102k may be changed to a position different from that in FIG.
- the inkjet head for special colors is compared with the inkjet heads 102y to 102c for each color of YMC that is the primary color and the inkjet heads 102r to 102b for each color of RGB that is the secondary color.
- the positions in the sub-scanning direction are shifted.
- the straight line in the main scanning direction passing through the position where the primary color inkjet heads y to c are arranged is the first axis, and the straight line in the main scanning direction passing through the position where the secondary color inkjet heads r to b are arranged.
- the printing apparatus 10 for example, a combination of ink and a medium that easily causes bleeding is conceivable.
- a textile printer that performs printing on a fabric a digital offset printer that performs printing on a medium such as paper, and the like can be considered.
- the fabric for example, it is possible to use a nonwoven fabric or other various fabrics.
- a non-absorbing (non-permeable) medium such as a metal, glass, or plastic film may be used.
- the present invention can be widely applied to printing apparatuses that perform ink-jet printing for various uses, such as indoor / outdoor signage printers, T-shirt printers, smartphone cover printers, industrial UV printers, and decorative printers. it can.
- the present invention can be suitably used for a printing apparatus, for example.
