- Patent Document 1 discloses that a battery exterior material in which polypropylene (PP) is laminated and coated on an aluminum alloy foil containing 0.6% or more of Fe is effective in reducing the size and weight.
- PP polypropylene
- the breaking strength of the aluminum foil is lowered, and the material is easily broken during press working.
- an external force such as vibration, impact, or stab is applied to the battery exterior material, the material is deformed or broken, and there is a risk of leakage of the internal electrolyte.
- the current lithium ion secondary battery uses an electrolytic solution in which LiPF 6 is dissolved in a mixed solution of ethylene carbonate and dialkyl carbonate, and is known to generate hydrogen fluoride by reacting with water. It has been. Since hydrogen fluoride is very corrosive, if the electrolyte leaks, there is a high possibility of serious damage to the device equipped with the lithium ion secondary battery. For this reason, a metal foil that is a battery exterior material is required to have a high breaking strength from the viewpoint of safety.
- the stainless steel foil generally has a high strength such as a tensile strength several times that of an aluminum foil, and is a battery exterior material that can be made thinner and safer than before.

- Patent Document 2 a stainless steel plate with random polishing marks or hairline polishing marks is brightly annealed at 800 ° C. or higher to form an oxide film in which Si is concentrated by 50 mol% or more. Adhesion is improved.
- Patent Document 3 stainless steel foil having an arithmetic average roughness Ra of 0.1 ⁇ m or more is annealed at 600 to 800 ° C. by using a hairline polishing or a rough rolling roll, oxygen is contained in an amount of 20 mol% to 60 mol%, and Fe The adhesion with the polyolefin resin is improved by forming an oxide film containing a larger amount of Cr than that.
- Japanese Patent Gazette Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 10-208708 (published on August 7, 1998)” Japanese Patent Publication “JP 2005-001245 A” (published on January 6, 2005) Japanese Patent Publication “JP 2012-033295 A (published February 16, 2012)”
- Patent Document 2 when the technique disclosed in Patent Document 2 is applied to a stainless steel foil for battery exterior materials, Si is concentrated in the oxide film, so that the electrolyte and water react to generate hydrogen fluoride. At this time, hydrogen fluoride preferentially cleaves the Si—O bond, resulting in a problem that the adhesion with the resin after immersion in the electrolyte is lowered.
- annealing is performed at 600 to 800 ° C. to suppress Si concentration in the oxide film, and the arithmetic average roughness Ra is set to 0.1 ⁇ m or more.
- the adhesion to the resin is improved by containing more Cr than Fe in the oxide film using a change in the diffusion coefficient of atoms due to curing, further improvement in adhesion is desired.
- the temperature increases during charging, and thermal shock (temperature change) occurs repeatedly. Improvement of adhesion between the stainless steel foil and the resin after such a thermal shock is desired.
- further improvement in the adhesion between the stainless steel foil and the resin after immersion in the electrolyte is also desired.
- the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a stainless steel foil for battery exterior that has excellent adhesion to a resin after thermal shock and after immersion in an electrolytic solution.
- the element ratio of the oxide film is adjusted so that the Fe content is higher than the technique described in Patent Document 3, and the lower limit of the thickness of the oxide film is set.
- the stainless steel foil for battery exterior according to the present invention includes Fe oxide of 40 mol% or more, Cr less than Fe, Si 40 mol% or less, an oxide film having a thickness of 2 nm or more, and a direction orthogonal to the rolling direction.
- the arithmetic average roughness Ra is 0.02 ⁇ m or more and less than 0.1 ⁇ m.
- the content of Fe with a relatively large standard oxide energy and high wettability is as high as 40 mol% or more, and Cr is less than Fe.
- Improved adhesion Moreover, adhesiveness with resin after electrolyte solution immersion can be improved because the content rate of Si in an oxide film shall be 40 mol% or less. And the effect of improving adhesiveness with resin can fully be acquired by the thickness of an oxide film being 2 nm or more.
- the arithmetic average roughness Ra in the direction orthogonal to the rolling direction in the stainless steel foil for battery exterior having an oxide film to 0.02 ⁇ m or more and less than 0.1 ⁇ m, air entrainment between the oxide film and the resin can be achieved. It is possible to suppress a decrease in adhesiveness with the resin after the thermal shock and the electrolyte immersion.
- the stainless steel foil for battery exteriors which was excellent in adhesiveness with the resin after a thermal shock and after electrolyte solution immersion can be provided.
- FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view showing a stainless steel foil for battery exterior according to this embodiment.
- an oxide film 1a is formed on the surface of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior.
- the stainless steel foil for battery exterior 1 includes at least a rolling process for rolling a stainless steel plate using a rolling roll to produce a rolled stainless steel foil having a predetermined thickness, and an annealing process for annealing the rolled stainless steel foil obtained by the rolling process. It is manufactured through.
- a resin (not shown) is laminated on the surface of the oxide film 1a of the battery exterior stainless steel foil 1 thus obtained, and processed into the shape of a battery container.
- the steel type of the stainless steel constituting the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior is not particularly limited, such as austenite, ferrite, and martensite, and examples thereof include SUS304, SUS430, and SUS316.
- austenite such as austenite
- ferrite such as stainless steel
- SUS316 examples thereof include SUS304, SUS430, and SUS316.
- an austenitic stainless steel having excellent spreadability and high workability in the solution heat treatment state, and high work hardening and high strength after molding is preferable.
- the thickness of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior is, for example, 5 to 100 ⁇ m, and more preferably 5 to 30 ⁇ m from the viewpoint of strength and weight reduction required as a battery exterior material. Since the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior is manufactured using a rolling roll, thickness is controlled by adjusting a rolling roll space
- the oxide film 1a is formed on the surface of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior by annealing the rolled stainless steel foil obtained by the rolling process in a reducing atmosphere.
- the oxide film 1a of this embodiment is characterized by containing Fe of 40 mol% or more, Cr less than Fe, and Si of 40 mol% or less, thereby improving the adhesion to the resin.
- the content ratio of Fe in the oxide film 1a is the sum of the contents of Fe existing as oxides or hydroxides, and Fe, which is contained in the oxide film 1a as a large amount of oxides or hydroxides, The value divided by the sum of the contents of Cr, Mn and Si is shown. The same applies to the Cr and Si contents.
- Patent Document 3 describes that the adhesion to the resin is improved by containing more Cr than Fe in the oxide film, but the present inventors have added 40 mol of Fe in the oxide film 1a. It has been found that the adhesion between the oxide film 1a and the resin is improved by containing Cr in an amount of at least% and less than Fe. The reason why the adhesion with the resin is improved by the oxide film 1a containing more Fe than Cr will be described below.
- the oxide film 1a contains a large amount of oxides or hydroxides of Fe, Cr, Mn, and Si.
- Fe oxide> Cr oxide> Mn oxide> Si oxide when comparing the standard generation energy of the oxide, Fe oxide> Cr oxide> Mn oxide> Si oxide, and the standard generation energy of Fe oxide is the highest.
- a high standard generation energy of an oxide means that the oxide is a thermodynamically unstable oxide. When a thermodynamically unstable oxide comes into contact with another substance, it becomes more stable and moves energy (transfer of electrons, etc.) with the other substance, and tends to attract the other substance more strongly. That is, wettability increases as the thermodynamically unstable oxide. From this, it is considered that the adhesion with the resin can be improved by the oxide film 1a containing Fe of 40 mol% or more and Cr less than Fe.
- Si in the oxide film 1a is as low as 40 mol% or less, even if hydrogen fluoride is generated by the reaction of the electrolyte inside the battery and water, it is not easily affected by hydrogen fluoride.
- the oxide film 1a in which the content ratio of Fe, which is the oxide having the highest standard generation energy, is 40 mol% or more is obtained by using a rolled stainless steel foil obtained by a rolling process with a dew point of ⁇ 40 to ⁇ 60 ° C. and a H 2 partial pressure. It can be obtained by annealing at 900 ° C. to 1180 ° C. in a reducing atmosphere of 75% or more.
- the annealing temperature of 900 ° C. to 1180 ° C. is higher than that of the technique of Patent Document 3 and is in the softening annealing region or a temperature region close thereto, so that the workability of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior can be improved.
- annealing is preferably performed at 900 to 1000 ° C. which is a soft annealing region, and when austenitic stainless steel is used, annealing is performed at 1000 to 1100 ° C. which is a solution annealing region. More preferred.
- the thickness of the oxide film 1a is 2 nm or more. If the thickness of the oxide film 1a is less than 2 nm, the effect of improving the adhesion with the resin cannot be sufficiently obtained.
- the thickness of the oxide film 1a is preferably 5 nm or less. This is because when the thickness of the oxide film 1a exceeds 5 nm, temper color is generated and aesthetics are deteriorated.
- the arithmetic average roughness Ra (JIS B 0601) in the direction orthogonal to the rolling direction of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior is 0.02 ⁇ m or more and less than 0.1 ⁇ m.
- the battery-covered stainless steel foil 1 When air is entrained between the resin and the oxide film 1a when the resin is laminated on the surface of the battery-covered stainless steel foil 1 (that is, the surface of the oxide film 1a), the battery-covered stainless steel foil 1 is used. If the temperature rises during charging of the secondary battery, the air between the resin and the oxide film 1a may expand and the resin may peel off. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the nip line pressure (pressure for pressing the resin against the oxide film 1a) of the laminate roll when the resin is laminated to prevent air from being caught between the oxide film 1a and the resin. When increasing the nip line pressure, it is necessary to appropriately adjust the resin amount in order to prevent the nip line pressure from becoming thinner than a desired resin thickness.
- the arithmetic mean roughness Ra of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior having the oxide film 1a less than 0.1 ⁇ m, even if the nip line pressure of the laminating roll when the resin is laminated is low, the resin and the oxidation foil 1 are oxidized. Air is less likely to be caught between the film 1a and the resin can be prevented from peeling off due to the air. In addition, since it is not necessary to increase the nip line pressure, it is easy to obtain a desired resin thickness.
- the electrolytic solution easily permeates and accumulates in minute concave portions on the surface of the oxide film 1a that forms an interface with the resin. There is a possibility that the adhesiveness between the resin and the oxide film 1a after the liquid immersion is lowered.
- the arithmetic average roughness Ra of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior is set to less than 0.1 ⁇ m, it is possible to suppress a decrease in the adhesion between the resin and the oxide film 1a after immersion in the electrolytic solution.
- the arithmetic average roughness Ra of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior can be adjusted by the surface roughness of the rolling roll used in the rolling process or the polishing process after rolling.
- the arithmetic average roughness Ra of 0.02 ⁇ m or more can be easily realized by appropriately selecting the surface roughness of the rolling roll in the rolling process without the polishing process after rolling.
- the thickness of the oxide film 1a is on the order of several nm, and the arithmetic average roughness Ra of the stainless steel foil before the annealing process for forming the oxide film 1a is maintained as it is after the annealing process.
- the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior may be subjected to chemical conversion treatment.
- chemical conversion treatment film By forming the chemical conversion treatment film, it is possible to obtain the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior having better adhesion to the resin.
- the kind of chemical conversion treatment film and the coating method are not particularly limited.
- a chromium-based chemical conversion treatment film by chromate treatment, a silane coupling agent, or the like, which is a general type of chemical conversion treatment film may be used.
- the roll coat method and the bar coat method are more preferable from the viewpoint of coating amount management.
- Both sides or one side of the stainless steel foil 1 for battery exterior are laminated with a resin such as polyolefin or polyester on the surface of the oxide film 1a.
- the resin to be laminated is a resin composition mainly composed of polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate having high chemical resistance, and is particularly used for the surface in contact with the electrolytic solution.
- the resin to be laminated may be polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate as a main component, and a modified resin having a functional group introduced or acid-modified may be copolymerized.
- the copolymer composition is preferably 50% by mass or more of polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate.
- the method for laminating and coating the resin on the battery exterior stainless steel foil 1 is not particularly limited, but as a general method, an adhesive is applied to the battery exterior stainless steel foil 1 and a film-like resin is thermocompression bonded.
- an adhesive is applied to the battery exterior stainless steel foil 1 and a film-like resin is thermocompression bonded.
- the press working method is not particularly limited, but as a general method, an overhanging process, a drawing process, or the like may be used.
- the shape of the battery container is not particularly limited, such as a rectangular parallelepiped rectangular tube shape or a cylindrical shape.
- a battery element such as a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator, an electrolytic solution, etc. What is necessary is just to accommodate the battery content part, and to adhere
- the type of secondary battery is not particularly limited, such as a lithium ion battery, a lithium polymer battery, a nickel metal hydride battery, or a nickel cadmium battery.
- the stainless steel foil for battery exterior has Fe oxide in an amount of 40 mol% or more, Cr less than Fe, Si in an amount of 40 mol% or less, and a thickness of 2 nm or more.
- the arithmetic average roughness Ra in the direction orthogonal to the direction is 0.02 ⁇ m or more and less than 0.1 ⁇ m.
- the stainless steel foil for battery exterior has a thickness of the oxide film of 5 nm or less.
- the stainless steel foil for battery exterior is preferably obtained by annealing a rolled stainless steel foil at 900 to 1180 ° C. in a reducing atmosphere having a dew point of ⁇ 40 to ⁇ 60 ° C. and a H 2 partial pressure of 75% or more.
- Ra 0.05 ⁇ m.
- the stainless steel foil for battery exterior according to Examples 1 to 5 and Comparative Examples 1 to 4 was manufactured by annealing the rolled stainless steel foil obtained by the rolling process under a plurality of conditions shown in Table 2. The element ratio and thickness of the oxide film on the surface of the outer stainless steel foil were analyzed.
- the content of Fe, Cr, Si, and Mn contained in the oxide film was analyzed with an X-ray source MgK ⁇ using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (manufactured by Shimadzu Corporation; AXIS NOVA). For the spectrum of each element, peaks corresponding to the bond energy of metal bond, oxide, and hydroxide were separated, and the integrated intensity of each was calculated. An example of the spectrum of Fe is shown in FIG. Excluding Fe metal bonds, the sum of the integrated intensities of the peaks corresponding to the oxides and hydroxides of Fe is divided by the sum of the integrated intensities of the peaks corresponding to the oxides and hydroxides of Fe, Cr, Si, and Mn, respectively. The value was defined as the Fe content (mol%) in the oxide film. The content of other elements was calculated in the same manner.
- the thickness of the oxide film was measured by the following procedure. An electron beam was irradiated using Auger electron spectroscopy analysis (manufactured by JEOL; JAMP-9500F), and the kinetic energy intensity of Auger electrons generated by the Auger transition process of Fe and O was measured in an analysis range of 50 ⁇ m 2 . Quantitative analysis based on the intensity value of each spectrum and etching with an Ar ion gun were performed, and the relationship between the analysis depth obtained by converting the sputtering rate into thickness using a standard sample of SiO 2 and the element ratio of Fe and O was obtained.
- FIG. 3 is an example of a graph showing the relationship between the analysis depth and the Fe and O element ratios. The analysis depth at the position where the obtained Fe and O curves intersected was defined as the thickness of the oxide film.
- projection process was performed in the area of 50x50 mm, and the workability was evaluated on the following references
- ⁇ When the overhang height is 3 mm or more and less than 5 mm, the battery exterior stainless steel foil is cracked.
- the adhesiveness between the acid-modified polypropylene film and the stainless steel foil for battery exterior was evaluated for the laminate by a thermal shock test and an electrolytic solution immersion test.
- the thermal shock test gives a temperature change by alternately repeating the environment of the laminated body in a low temperature state and a high temperature state, and the stress caused by the difference in expansion coefficient of the joint part of different materials due to expansion and contraction accompanying the temperature change.
- This is a method for evaluating peeling and the like.
- a cycle of 120 ° C. ⁇ 1 hour and ⁇ 40 ° C. ⁇ 1 hour is defined as one cycle, and a 90 ° peel test (peeling test) is performed before and after the thermal shock test of 300 cycles.
- Adhesion with stainless steel foil was evaluated.
- A The peel strength after the thermal shock test is 80% or more before the test.
- ⁇ The peel strength after the thermal shock test is 40% or more and less than 80% before the test.
- X The peel strength after the thermal shock test is less than 40% before the test.
- the electrolytic solution immersion test is a method for evaluating the adhesion between the acid-modified polypropylene film and the stainless steel foil for battery exterior when the laminate is immersed in the electrolytic solution and the electrolytic solution penetrates.
- Example 5 As shown in Table 3, in Examples 1 to 5 having an oxide film containing Fe of 40 mol% or more, Cr less than Fe, and Si containing 40 mol% or less, and having an oxide film thickness of 2 nm or more, The evaluation results of the property and the adhesion were ⁇ or ⁇ .
- the annealing temperature is relatively low, the Fe content of the oxide film is close to the lower limit of 40 mol%, and the Si content is close to the upper limit of 40 mol%. Therefore, compared with the other Examples 1 to 4.
- the results were inferior in workability and adhesion after immersion in the electrolyte.
- Comparative Example 1 the annealing temperature was even lower than 900 ° C., the Fe content of the oxide film was lower than 40 mol%, and the Si content was higher than 40 mol%. An evaluation result of ⁇ was obtained. Further, since the oxide has a higher standard generation energy of Cr than Fe, the adhesion after the thermal shock test is inferior to that of Examples 1 to 5.
- Comparative Examples 2 and 3 although the annealing temperature exceeded 900 ° C., the dew point or H 2 partial pressure reduction conditions were lower than those in Examples 1 to 5, and the Si content of the oxide film exceeded 40 mol%. An evaluation result of x was obtained for the adhesion after immersion in the liquid. In Comparative Example 2, since the Cr content was higher than that of Fe, the adhesion after the thermal shock test was inferior to that of Examples 1-5.
- Comparative Example 4 since the reduction conditions in annealing were higher than those in Examples 1 to 5, the thickness of the oxide film was as thin as 1 nm, and adhesion could not be ensured.
- Examples 6 and 7, Comparative Example 5 When the stainless steel plate is cold-rolled, for the battery exterior according to Example 6, Example 7 and Comparative Example 5 under the same conditions as in Example 1 except that rolling rolls having different finishing roughness are used. A stainless steel foil was obtained. Table 4 shows the arithmetic surface roughness Ra in the direction orthogonal to the rolling direction in the rolled stainless steel foil after the rolling step. Table 4 also shows the analysis results of the composition and thickness of the oxide film in the stainless steel foil for battery exterior after the annealing process.

- workability and adhesion were evaluated.
- the laminate coating was performed with the nip line pressure of the laminate roll set to a low value of 3.5 N / mm. Table 4 shows the evaluation results of workability and adhesion.
- the present invention can be used for a secondary battery container such as a nickel-cadmium battery, a nickel-hydrogen battery, or a lithium ion secondary battery.
