- a gas sensor which is disposed in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine and measures the oxygen concentration in exhaust gas passing through the exhaust pipe, has responsiveness indicating the measurement speed, moisture resistance indicating protection performance from moisture, and the like. Required.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a gas sensor including a detection element, a metal shell that holds the detection element, and a protector that houses a detection unit of the detection element.
- the protector has a large diameter portion and a small diameter portion.
- the first tip wall of the large-diameter portion is provided with a first depression that is recessed toward the rear end side in the axial direction and a first opening that opens at the first depression.
- the second distal end wall of the small diameter portion is provided with a second depressed portion that is recessed toward the rear end side in the axial direction and a second opening that opens at the second depressed portion.
- the water droplet is prevented from adhering to the detection element by adhering to the first depression or the second depression. Yes.
- first depression and the second depression protrude to the inside of the protector so as to block the flow of the gas to be measured that passes through the first opening or the second opening. For this reason, the time for the gas to be measured to reach the detection portion of the detection element is delayed, and the responsiveness of measurement by the gas sensor cannot be sufficiently improved.
- the present invention has been made in view of such a background, and has been obtained in an attempt to provide a gas sensor capable of ensuring water resistance and improving the response of measurement.

- the 2nd through-hole by which the perimeter was punched out is formed.
- the configuration of the cover makes it easier for the gas to be measured to pass between the outside and inside of the cover via the first through hole and the second through hole. In this case, the flow velocity of the measurement gas in the vicinity of the measurement gas side electrode can be kept high in the cover, and the measurement responsiveness of the gas sensor can be kept high.
- the gap D1 When the gap D1 is less than 1 mm, the inner peripheral surface of the large-diameter cover part and the gas to be measured electrode may interfere with each other. On the other hand, when the gap D1 exceeds 2.5 mm, the responsiveness of the gas sensor may be deteriorated. When the inner diameter D2 is less than ⁇ 3.8 mm, the responsiveness of the gas sensor may be deteriorated. On the other hand, when the inner diameter D2 exceeds ⁇ 9.8 mm, it is difficult to establish a two-stage shape of a large diameter cover portion and a small diameter cover portion. Description
