Definitions
- the present invention relates to a lithium secondary battery with improved lifespan characteristics.
- Lithium secondary batteries generally include various additives in the positive electrode, the negative electrode, the separator, and the electrolyte.
- life-long electrolyte additives form a solid solid electrolyte interface (SEI) film on the surface of the electrode during the initial formation of the cell, or repair some damaged SEI film during repeated charge and discharge processes. When used, it has the effect of extending the life.
- SEI solid solid electrolyte interface
- SEI membranes are dependent on the type of solvent or additives contained in the electrolyte, and are known as one of the major factors that affect the performance of the battery by affecting ion and charge transfer (see Shoichiro Mori, Chemical). properties of various organic electrolytes for lithium rechargeable batteries, J. Power Source (1997) Vol. 68).
- the oxidation / reduction potential is about 0.1 V with respect to the Li / Li + potential, so that the nonaqueous electrolyte is decomposed on the surface of the negative electrode to react with lithium, and the additive is also easily reacted with SEI. To form a film.
- the SEI film functions as an ion tunnel to pass only lithium ions.
- the effect of the ion tunnel solvates lithium ions, and organic solvent molecules having a large molecular weight, such as lithium salts, EC, DMC, or DEC, which move together with lithium ions in the electrolyte are inserted into the cathode, thereby It can prevent the collapse of the structure.
- lithium salts such as lithium salts, EC, DMC, or DEC
- the amount of charge consumed to form the SEI film has a property of not reversibly reacting upon discharging at an irreversible capacity.
- LTO lithium titanium oxide
- the oxidation / reduction potential of the negative electrode is relatively 1.5V relative to the potential of Li / Li + . Therefore, it is difficult to form the SEI film by the additive in the formation process, and accordingly, the internal pressure of the battery is increased due to the generation of H 2 gas due to the continuous catalysis, and thus, the lifespan performance of the battery is not solved.
- the present invention aims to solve the problems of the prior art as described above and the technical problems that have been requested from the past.
- the lithium secondary battery according to the present invention is a lithium secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and an electrolyte
- the negative electrode is lithium titanium oxide (LTO) as a negative electrode active material Included as, the electrolyte solution, lithium salt; Non-aqueous solvents; And (a) a phosphate compound capable of suppressing the generation of gas during high temperature storage, a (b) sulfonate compound capable of reducing discharge resistance by forming a low resistance SEI layer, or the Mixtures of compound (a) and compound (b); Characterized in that it comprises a.
- LTO lithium titanium oxide
- Lithium secondary batteries using a carbon-based material as a negative electrode have a low oxidation / reduction potential of about 0.1 V with respect to the potential of Li / Li + , and the reaction of the electrolyte and the negative electrode, or the reaction of additives in the electrolyte during initial formation. A film is formed and also maintained.
- a lithium secondary battery including LTO as a negative electrode active material as in the present invention, is structurally stable, and almost no electrolyte decomposition occurs, and the oxidation / reduction potential of the negative electrode is 1.2 V to 1.5 V relative to the potential of Li / Li + .
- the conventionally used additives are difficult to form the SEI layer, there is a problem of gas generation due to the catalytic action at high temperature and thereby deterioration of life characteristics.
- the inventors of the present application after an in-depth study, can perform an electrochemical reaction within an operating potential of lithium secondary battery including LTO as a negative electrode active material, in detail, 1.2V to 1.8V, more specifically 1.3V to 1.5V. Revealed the substance present.
- the (a) phosphate compound, (b) sulfonate compound, or a mixture of the compound (a) and compound (b) is reduced at the operating potential of the secondary battery to
- a passivation film containing a chemical reaction product may be formed on part or all of the surface of the cathode, and the passivation film may be a solid electrolyte interface (SEI film) film.
- the SEI film is formed by a surface reaction through an initial formation process of the battery or an aging process at room temperature or high temperature.
- the secondary battery according to the present invention in which the SEI film is formed, may prevent gas generation during high temperature storage, thereby improving safety and performance of the battery.
- the (a) phosphate compound and (b) sulfonate compound are mixed together rather than being mixed alone, a superior synergistic effect is obtained.
- the phosphate compound may stabilize the Ti 4+ produced when the LTO is charged to inhibit the promotion of the electrolyte decomposition reaction, and the sulfonate compound is present on the electrode surface by a reduction reaction, so that Li may be coordinated.
- Providing a site can reduce the resistance of the battery. Therefore, when the two compounds are mixed together, generation of gas can be reduced due to suppression of the electrolyte decomposition reaction, and a low resistance SEI layer is formed on the cathode through a reduction reaction even at a high potential of LTO to improve the performance of the battery. It can be improved, and contribute to the stabilization of the surface properties of the positive electrode through the reduction reaction.
- the (a) phosphate compound may be represented by the following formula (1).
- R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are each independently halogen, halogen substituted or unsubstituted C 1 to C 10 alkyl groups, halogen substituted or unsubstituted C 2 to C 10 alkenyl groups, or halogen substituted Or an unsubstituted C 1 to C 10 alkoxy group, or at least two of R 1 , R 2 , R 3, and R 4 are connected to each other to form an oxalate group.

- the compound or mixture is contained in less than 0.1% by weight, it is not preferable that the desired SEI film is difficult to form, and when it exceeds 10% by weight, performance may be degraded due to the material remaining unreacted.
- the compound (a) and compound (b) may be included in a weight ratio of 1: 1 to 1: 5, and mixed in the above range.
- an SEI film having a property of maximizing battery performance may be formed.
- one selected from the group consisting of a lactam compound, a silazane compound, a silyl amide compound, a sultone compound, a siloxane compound containing at least one unsaturated group, and a vinylidene carbonate compound substituted with an electron withdrawing group may be further included.
- the lactam compound has a low oxidation / reduction potential. This is presumably due to the large electron density of the nitrogen atoms in the ring in the compound. Therefore, in the case of lowering the electron density of the nitrogen atom by replacing the electron withdrawing group (EWG) at the nitrogen position of the lactam compound, it is easier to accept electrons from the outside, but more difficult to give electrons to the outside, thereby oxidizing the compound.
- the reduction potential can be high and aid in SEI film formation.
- the siloxane compound is a material containing at least one of -Si-O-Si- bonds and carbon-carbon double bonds, or at least one of -Si-O-Si- bonds through reaction with impurities in an electrolyte such as water. It may be a material containing the above carbon-carbon double bonds. Carbon-carbon double bonds in the material may preferably be two or more, more specifically two or three. In this case, a functional group having a carbon-carbon double bond and a siloxane capable of conducting lithium ions are included, thereby helping to form an SEI film through crosslinking.

<비교예 3>
<실험예 1>
<실험예 2>
<실험예 3>
