Abstract

 本発明に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムは、高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着配向させたヨウ素系偏光フィルムであって、前記ヨウ素の含有量が2.85mm3当たり1.9~3重量%の範囲内であり、単体透過率43~45%の範囲内における波長480nmの直交吸光度A1に対する波長610nmの直交吸光度A2の比(A2/A1)が1.16以下であることを特徴とする。

Description

ヨウ素系偏光フィルム及びその製造方法
 本発明は、液晶表示装置、エレクトロルミネッセンス(EL)表示装置、プラズマディスプレイ(PD)及び電界放出ディスプレイ(FED:Field Emission Display)等の画像表示装置に使用するヨウ素系偏光フィル、及びその製造方法に関する。また、本発明は、当該偏光フィルムを備えた偏光板に関する。
 画像表示装置(特に液晶表示装置)に使用する偏光フィルムは、明るく、色の再現性が良い画像を提供するために、高い透過率と偏光度を兼ね備えることが必要とされている。この様な偏光フィルムは、従来、ポリビニルアルコールフィルム(以下、「PVAフィルム」という。)を膨潤水で膨潤した後、染色工程において二色性を有するヨウ素又は二色性染料等の二色性物質を吸着配向させると共に、一軸延伸を行うことにより製造されている(下記特許文献1)。
 しかし、前記の様な一般的な製造方法では、染色工程において染色液に浸漬させた状態で延伸をしているため、ヨウ素又は二色性染料をPVAフィルムに過剰に吸着させることになる。その結果、吸着されたヨウ素等に配向の低下が生じ、これにより、偏光フィルムにおいては可視光(380~780nm)の短波長域(380~410nm)における光漏れが生じるという問題がある。
 前記光漏れの防止を図り、配向度の高い偏光フィルムを製造する方法としては、下記特許文献2に記載の方法が挙げられる。当該製造方法によると、PVAフィルムを乾式延伸させた後、ヨウ素又は二色性染料に吸着配向させる。次いで、ホウ酸水溶液に浸漬しながら延伸させている。また、乾式延伸としては、熱ロールを用いて一軸延伸する方法、加熱オーブン内に設置されたロール間で引張力を加えながら延伸を行うロール間一軸延伸法などの一般的な方法が記載されている。
 しかし、前記の製造方法では、膨潤工程が行われないままPVAフィルムを加熱して延伸倍率4~5倍程度に乾式延伸し、更に染色工程を行うので、ヨウ素等をPVAフィルムに十分に吸着させることが困難になっている。その結果、前記製造方法では、高偏光度の偏光フィルムを作製するのは困難となっている。更に、偏光特性を向上させるため、ホウ酸水溶液中で行う延伸の延伸倍率を大きくすると、PVAフィルムの破断が生じるという問題がある。

 本発明は前記問題点に鑑みなされたものであり、その目的は、可視光(380~780nm)の短波長域(380~410nm)における光吸収を増大させて、当該短波長域に於ける光漏れの発生を防止し、光学特性に優れたヨウ素系偏光フィルム及びその製造方法を提供することにある。
 本願発明者らは、染色工程における染色浴中では延伸を行わずに、染色浴外で延伸を行ったヨウ素系偏光フィルムであると、可視光の短波長域における光吸収が改善されることを見出し、本発明を完成させるに至った。
 即ち、本発明に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムは、前記の課題を解決する為に、高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着配向させたヨウ素系偏光フィルムであって、前記ヨウ素の含有量が2.85mm当たり1.9~3重量%の範囲内であり、単体透過率43~45%の範囲内における波長480nmの直交吸光度A1に対する波長610nmの直交吸光度A2の比(A2/A1)が1.16以下であることを特徴とする。
 一般に波長480nmの直交吸光度は三価のヨウ素錯体の含有量の指標となり、波長610nmの直交吸光度は五価のヨウ素錯体の含有量の指標となることが知られている。高分子フィルムにヨウ素が吸着して形成される三価ヨウ素錯体は、可視光(380~780nm)の短波長域(380~410nm)における光吸収能が高い。このため、前記構成のように、単体透過率43~45%の範囲内における波長480nmの直交吸光度A1に対する波長610nmの直交吸光度A2の比(A2/A1)を1.16以下にし、三価ヨウ素錯体の含有量を増大させることにより、可視光(380~780nm)における短波長域(380~410nm)の光吸収を向上させることができる。その結果、前記短波長域に於ける光漏れの低減が可能になる。
 前記構成に於いて、前記高分子フィルムはポリビニルアルコールフィルムであることが好ましい。
 本発明に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法は、前記の課題を解決する為に、高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着配向させたヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法であって、前記高分子フィルムを、ヨウ素を含む溶液中に浸漬させることにより、当該高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着させる染色工程と、染色後の前記高分子フィルムを前記溶液から取り出し、その状態で前記高分子フィルムを加熱することなく所定の延伸倍率に一軸延伸する延伸工程と、前記一軸延伸後の高分子フィルムを架橋浴中に浸漬することにより、当該高分子フィルムを架橋する架橋工程とを含むことを特徴とする。
 前記方法によれば、ヨウ素を含む溶液中で染色された高分子フィルムを、当該溶液から取り出した状態で延伸工程を行う。また、この延伸工程は、熱ロールや加熱オーブン等を用いることにより、高分子フィルムに対し加熱を行うものではない。従って、前記方法における延伸工程は従来の乾式延伸とは異なるものである。この様な延伸工程を行うことにより、ヨウ素を吸着させた高分子フィルムにおいては、三価ヨウ素錯体の含有量を増大させることが可能になる。三価ヨウ素錯体は可視光(380~780nm)における短波長域(380~410nm)の光吸収能が高いので、前記延伸工程を行うことにより、三価ヨウ素錯体を多く含有する偏光フィルムを製造することができる。即ち、前記方法であると、前記短波長域に於ける光漏れを低減させることが可能なヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造が可能になる。
 前記方法に於いては、前記染色工程ではヨウ素を含む溶液中での高分子フィルムの一軸延伸を行わないことが好ましい。これにより、ヨウ素が高分子フィルムに過剰に吸着するのを防止し、吸着されたヨウ素の配向低下を低減することができる。その結果、可視光の短波長域における光漏れを一層防止することができる。
 前記方法において、前記延伸工程において行う一軸延伸の延伸倍率は1.2~1.8倍の範囲内であることが好ましい。
 更に、本発明に係る偏光板は、前記に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの少なくとも一方の面に、透明保護フィルムが設けられたことを特徴とする。これにより、可視光(380~780nm)の短波長域(380~410nm)における光漏れの発生がなく、光学特性に優れた偏光板を提供することができる。
 本発明は、前記に説明した手段により、以下に述べるような効果を奏する。
 即ち、本発明に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムによれば、単体透過率43~45%の範囲内における波長480nmの直交吸光度A1に対する波長610nmの直交吸光度A2の比(A2/A1)を1.16以下にすることで、可視光における短波長域の光吸収を向上させ、当該短波長域に於ける光漏れの低減が可能になる。その結果、光学特性に優れたヨウ素系偏光フィルムを提供することができる。
 また、本発明に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法によれば、染色工程後の高分子フィルムを前記溶液から取り出した状態で延伸工程を行うことにより、三価ヨウ素錯体の含有量を増大させることが可能になる。その結果、可視光における短波長域の光漏れを低減させ、光学特性に優れたヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造が可能になる。
 本実施の形態に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルム(以下、「偏光フィルム」という。)は高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着配向させた構成を有するものであり、自然光や偏光から任意の偏光に変換し得る素子をいう。本発明に用いられる偏光フィルムは、特に制限はないが、好ましくは、自然光または偏光を直線偏光に変換するものである。このような偏光フィルムは、入射する光を直交する2つの偏光成分に分けたとき、そのうちの一方の偏光成分を透過させる機能を有し、且つ、他方の偏光成分を、吸収、反射、および散乱等によって透過させないものである。
 前記高分子フィルムとしては、例えば、ポリビニルアルコールフィルム(以下、「PVAフィルム」という。)が好ましい。前記PVAフィルムはポリビニルアルコール系樹脂からなり、例えば、ポリ酢酸ビニル系樹脂をケン化することにより得られる。ポリ酢酸ビニル系樹脂としては、酢酸ビニルの単独重合体であるポリ酢酸ビニルのほか、酢酸ビニル及びこれと共重合可能な他の単量体の共重合体等が挙げられる。酢酸ビニルに共重合される他の単量体としては、例えば、不飽和カルボン酸類、不飽和スルホン酸類、オレフィン類、ビニルエーテル類などが挙げられる。
 ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂の重合度は、一般に500~10,000であり、1,000~8,000の範囲であることが好ましく、1,400~7,000の範囲にあることがより好ましい。更に、ケン化される場合、そのケン化度は、例えば、水への溶解性の点から、75モル%以上が好ましく、より好ましくは98モル%以上であり、98.3モル%以上の範囲にあることがより好ましい。
 ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂からなるPVAフィルムの製造方法としては、水又は有機溶媒に溶解した原液を流延成膜する流延法、キャスト法、押出法等任意の方法で成膜されたものを適宜使用することができる。このときの位相差値は、5nm~100nmのものが好ましく用いられる。また、面内均一な偏光フィルムを得るために、PVAフィルム面内の位相差バラツキはできるだけ小さい方が好ましく、原反フィルムとしてのPVAフィルムの面内位相差バラツキは、測定波長1000nmに於いて10nm以下であることが好ましく、5nm以下であることがより好ましい。
 本発明に係る偏光フィルムのヨウ素の含有量は、2.85mm当たり1.9~3重量%であり、好ましくは2.2~3.0重量%、より好ましくは、2.5~3.0重量%である。ヨウ素はPVAフィルムとの間で、三価のヨウ素錯体及び五価のヨウ素錯体を形成するが、前記含有量は偏光フィルムに含まれる全てのヨウ素を含むものである。
 ここで、単体透過率43~45%の範囲内における波長480nmの直交吸光度A1に対する波長610nmの直交吸光度A2の比(A2/A1)は1.16以下である。1.16を超えると、五価ヨウ素錯体の含有量が増大することになるので、可視光(380~780nm)における短波長域(380~410nm)の光吸収能が低下し、当該短波長域での光漏れが増大し、光学信頼性が低下する。尚、可視光の長波長域(700~780nm)における光漏れの防止の観点からは、0.5以上であることが好ましい。
 前記単体透過率43~45%の範囲内における波長域480nmの直交吸光度(A1)は三価のヨウ素錯体の含有量の指標であり、波長域610nmの直交吸光度(A2)は五価のヨウ素錯体の含有量の指標である。前記単体透過率は、測定波長380nm~780nmの測定結果をもとにJIS Z8701の2度視野(C光源)により視感度補整したY値で示すものである。また、波長480nm及び610nmの直交吸光度は、紫外可視分光光度計を用いて、偏光フィルムの480nm及び610nmにおける直交透過率Tcをそれぞれ測定し、(直交吸光度)=Log10Tcにより求めた値である。
 偏光フィルムの厚さは特に限定されるものではないが、一般的に、5~80μm程度である。この偏光フィルムの片面又は両面に透明保護フィルムを積層することにより偏光板となる(詳細については、後述する。)。
 次に、本実施の形態に係る偏光フィルムの製造方法について説明する。本実施の形態に係る偏光フィルムの製造方法は、初期原反フィルムとしてのPVAフィルムに対し、少なくとも染色工程、延伸工程、架橋工程を順次行うものであれば特に限定されない。例えば、前記染色工程の前に従来公知の膨潤工程を行ってもよい。
 前記膨潤工程としては、例えば、水で満たした膨潤浴にPVAフィルムを浸漬する。これによりPVAフィルムが水洗され、PVAフィルム表面の汚れやブロッキング防止剤を洗浄することができるとともに、PVAフィルムを膨潤させることで染色ムラ等の不均一性を防止する効果が期待できる。この膨潤浴中には、グリセリンやヨウ化カリウム等を適宜加えてもよい。添加する濃度は、グリセリンの場合5重量%以下、ヨウ化カリウムの場合10重量%以下であることが好ましい。膨潤浴の温度は、20~45℃の範囲であることが好ましく、25~40℃であることがより好ましい。膨潤浴への浸漬時間は、2~180秒間であることが好ましく、10~150秒間であることがより好ましく、60~120秒間であることが特に好ましい。また、この膨潤浴中でPVAフィルムを延伸してもよく、そのときの延伸倍率は膨潤による伸展も含めて、未延伸状態のフィルムに対し1.1~3.5倍程度である。
 前記染色工程は、前記PVAフィルムを、ヨウ素を含む溶液(染色浴)に浸漬することによって、前記ヨウ素をPVAフィルムに吸着させる工程である。また、本工程では染色浴中でのPVAフィルムの延伸は行わない方が好ましい。これにより、ヨウ素がPVAフィルムに過剰に吸着するのを防止することができ、吸着されたヨウ素の配向低下を低減することができる。その結果、可視光の短波長域における光漏れを一層防止することができる。但し、上記不都合が生じない範囲であれば、染色浴中でのPVAフィルムの延伸を行ってもよい。この様な観点から行う延伸の総延伸倍率は、5~6.5倍程度であることが好ましい。
 前記染色浴の溶液としては、ヨウ素を溶媒に溶解した溶液が使用できる。前記溶媒としては、水が一般的に使用されるが、水と相溶性のある有機溶媒が更に添加されてもよい。ヨウ素の濃度としては、0.010~10重量%の範囲にあることが好ましく、0.020~7重量%の範囲にあることがより好ましく、0.025~5重量%であることが特に好ましい。
 また、染色効率をより一層向上させるために、更にヨウ化物を添加することが好ましい。このヨウ化物としては、例えば、ヨウ化カリウム、ヨウ化リチウム、ヨウ化ナトリウム、ヨウ化亜鉛、ヨウ化アルミニウム、ヨウ化鉛、ヨウ化銅、ヨウ化バリウム、ヨウ化カルシウム、ヨウ化錫、ヨウ化チタン等が挙げられる。これらヨウ化物の添加割合は、前記染色浴に於いて、0.010~10重量%であることが好ましく、0.10~5重量%であることがより好ましい。これらのなかでも、ヨウ化カリウムを添加することが好ましく、ヨウ素とヨウ化カリウムの割合(重量比)は、1:5~1:100の範囲にあることが好ましく、1:6~1:80の範囲にあることがより好ましく、1:7~1:70の範囲にあることが特に好ましい。
 前記染色浴へのPVAフィルムの浸漬時間は特に限定されるものではないが、1~20分の範囲であることが好ましく、2~10分であることがより好ましい。また、染色浴の温度は、5~42℃の範囲にあることが好ましく、10~35℃の範囲にあることがより好ましい。
 前記延伸工程は、前記染色浴から取り出した高分子フィルムをそのままの状態で一軸延伸する工程である。当該工程は、従来公知の乾式延伸と異なり、熱ロールや加熱オーブン等を用いて高分子フィルムを加熱したりしない。また、本工程は常温(20~30℃)、相対湿度45~85%Rhの下で行うことができる。更に、本工程を行うにあたっては、染色工程におけるヨウ素を含む溶液の液切りを行わなくてもよい。
 また、本工程における延伸倍率は、延伸直前のPVAフィルムに対し1.15~1.8倍の範囲内であることが好ましく、1.3~1.65倍の範囲内であることがより好ましい。延伸倍率が1.15倍未満であると、短波長域の光洩れ防止効果が十分に得られない場合がある。その一方、1.8倍を超えると、十分な偏光特性が得られない場合がある。
 前記架橋工程は、例えば、架橋剤を含む架橋浴中にPVAフィルムを浸漬して架橋する工程である。前記架橋剤としては、従来公知の物質を使用することができる。例えば、ホウ酸、ホウ砂等のホウ素化合物や、グリオキザール、グルタルアルデヒド等が挙げられる。これらは一種単独で、又は二種類以上を併用してもよい。二種類以上を併用する場合は、例えば、ホウ酸とホウ砂の組み合わせが好ましい。その添加割合(モル比)は、4:6~9:1の範囲にあることが好ましく、5.5:4.5~7:3の範囲がより好ましく、6:4であることが最も好ましい。
 前記架橋浴の溶液としては、前記架橋剤を溶媒に溶解した溶液を使用することができる。前記溶媒としては、例えば水を使用できるが、更に水と相溶性のある有機溶媒を含んでもよい。前記溶液に於ける架橋剤の濃度は特に限定されないが、1~10重量%の範囲であることが好ましく、2~6重量%の範囲内であることがより好ましい。
 前記架橋浴中には、偏光フィルムの面内において均一な光学特性が得られる点から、ヨウ化物を添加してもよい。このヨウ化物としては特に限定されず、例えば、ヨウ化カリウム、ヨウ化リチウム、ヨウ化ナトリウム、ヨウ化亜鉛、ヨウ化アルミニウム、ヨウ化鉛、ヨウ化銅、ヨウ化バリウム、ヨウ化カルシウム、ヨウ化錫、ヨウ化チタン等が挙げられる。また、ヨウ化物の含有量は、0.05~15重量%の範囲内であることが好ましく、0.5~8重量%の範囲内であることがより好ましい。前記に例示したヨウ化物は一種単独で、又は二種類以上を併用してもよい。二種類以上を併用する場合は、ホウ酸とヨウ化カリウムの組み合わせが好ましい。ホウ酸とヨウ化カリウムの割合(重量比)としては、1:0.1~1:3.5の範囲にあることが好ましく、1:0.5~1:2.5の範囲にあることがより好ましい。
 前記架橋浴の温度は、通常20~70℃の範囲であり、PVAフィルムの浸漬時間は通常1秒~15分の範囲であり、好ましくは5秒~10分である。更に、架橋処理は、架橋剤含有溶液を塗布又は噴霧する方法を用いてもよい。また、架橋浴中でPVAフィルムの延伸を行ってもよく、その場合の総延伸倍率は、1.1~4.0倍程度であることが好ましい。
 本実施の形態においては、更に、適宜必要に応じて洗浄工程及び乾燥工程を順次行ってもよい。当該洗浄工程としては、例えば、洗浄浴の水溶液中にPVAフィルムを浸漬することにより、前の処理で付着したホウ酸等の不要残存物を洗い流すことができる。前記水溶液には、前記2族元素の塩を添加してもよく、当該塩としては、例えばヨウ化物が好ましく用いられる。ここで、前記ヨウ化物としては、例えば、ヨウ化カリウム、ヨウ化リチウム、ヨウ化ナトリウム、ヨウ化亜鉛、ヨウ化アルミニウム、ヨウ化鉛、ヨウ化銅、ヨウ化バリウム、ヨウ化カルシウム、ヨウ化錫、ヨウ化チタン等が挙げられる。洗浄浴に2族元素の塩を添加する場合、その濃度は通常2.2~3.8重量%であり、2.7~3.3重量%であることが好ましい。更に、前記洗浄浴の温度は、10~60℃であることが好ましく、15~40℃であることがより好ましい。また、洗浄工程の回数は特に限定されることなく複数回実施してもよい。また、各洗浄浴中の添加物の種類や濃度を変えてもよい。
 尚、PVAフィルムを膨潤浴や架橋浴、洗浄浴から引き上げる際には、液だれの発生を防止するために、従来公知であるピンチロール等の液切れロールを用いてもよく、エアーナイフにより液を削ぎ落とす等の方法により、余分な水分を取り除いてもよい。
 前記乾燥工程としては、自然乾燥、風乾、加熱乾燥等、適宜な方法を用いることができるが、通常、加熱乾燥が好ましく用いられる。加熱乾燥を行う場合、加熱温度は20~80℃程度であり、乾燥時間は1~10分間程度であることが好ましい。
 前記の各工程を行うことにより作製された偏光フィルムの最終的な総延伸倍率は、前記初期原反のPVAフィルムに対して5.0倍以上であることが好ましく、5.5~6.5倍であることがより好ましい。最終的な総延伸倍率が5.0倍未満であると、高偏光度の偏光フィルムを得ることが困難になる場合がある。尚、総延伸倍率を6.5倍以下にすることで、PVAフィルムが容易に破断するのを防止することができる。
 前記製造方法で得られた本実施の形態に係る偏光フィルムは、偏光フィルム単体で測定したときの単体透過率が43%~45%の範囲内であることが好ましく、43.5~45.0%の範囲にあることがより好ましい。
 前記偏光フィルムの少なくとも片面には、透明保護フィルムを設けてもよい。この透明保護フィルムを構成する材料としては、例えば透明性、機械的強度、熱安定性、水分遮断性、等方性等に優れる熱可塑性樹脂が用いられる。この様な熱可塑性樹脂の具体例としては、トリアセチルセルロース等のセルロース樹脂、ポリエステル樹脂、ポリエーテルスルホン樹脂、ポリスルホン樹脂、ポリカーボネート樹脂、ポリアミド樹脂、ポリイミド樹脂、ポリオレフィン樹脂、(メタ)アクリル樹脂、環状ポリオレフィン樹脂(ノルボルネン系樹脂)、ポリアリレート樹脂、ポリスチレン樹脂、ポリビニルアルコール樹脂、及びこれらの混合物が挙げられる。尚、偏光フィルムの片側には、透明保護フィルムが接着剤層により貼り合わされるが、他の片側には、透明保護フィルムとして、(メタ)アクリル系、ウレタン系、アクリルウレタン系、エポキシ系、シリコーン系等の熱硬化性樹脂又は紫外線硬化型樹脂を用いることができる。透明保護フィルム中には任意の適切な添加剤が1種類以上含まれていてもよい。添加剤としては、例えば、紫外線吸収剤、酸化防止剤、滑剤、可塑剤、離型剤、着色防止剤、難燃剤、核剤、帯電防止剤、顔料、着色剤等が挙げられる。透明保護フィルム中の前記熱可塑性樹脂の含有量は、好ましくは50~100重量%、より好ましくは50~99重量%、更に好ましくは60~98重量%、特に好ましくは70~97重量%である。透明保護フィルム中の前記熱可塑性樹脂の含有量が50重量%未満の場合、熱可塑性樹脂が本来有する高透明性等が十分に発現できないおそれがある。
 また、透明保護フィルムとしては、特開2001-343529号公報(WO01/37007)に記載のポリマーフィルム、例えば、(A)側鎖に置換及び/又は非置換イミド基を有する熱可塑性樹脂と、(B)側鎖に置換及び/又は非置換フェニルならびにニトリル基を有する熱可塑性樹脂を含有する樹脂組成物が挙げられる。具体例としてはイソブチレンとN-メチルマレイミドからなる交互共重合体とアクリロニトリル・スチレン共重合体とを含有する樹脂組成物のフィルムが挙げられる。フィルムは樹脂組成物の混合押出品等からなるフィルムを用いることができる。これらのフィルムは位相差が小さく、光弾性係数が小さいため偏光板の歪みによるムラ等の不具合を解消することができ、また透湿度が小さいため、加湿耐久性に優れる。
 透明保護フィルムの厚さは、適宜に決定しうるが、一般には強度や取扱性等の作業性、薄層性等の点より1~500μm程度である。特に1~300μmが好ましく、5~200μmがより好ましい。透明保護フィルムは、5~150μmの場合に特に好適である。
 尚、偏光フィルムの両側に透明保護フィルムを設ける場合、その表裏で同じポリマー材料からなる保護フィルムを用いてもよく、異なるポリマー材料等からなる保護フィルムを用いてもよい。
 本実施の形態に係る透明保護フィルムとしては、セルロース樹脂、ポリカーボネート樹脂、環状ポリオレフィン樹脂及び(メタ)アクリル樹脂から選ばれるいずれか少なくとも1つを用いるのが好ましい。
 セルロース樹脂は、セルロースと脂肪酸のエステルである。このようセルロースエステル系樹脂の具体例としでは、トリアセチルセルロース、ジアセチルセルロース、トリプロピルセルロース、ジプロピルセルロース等が挙げられる。これらのなかでも、トリアセチルセルロースが特に好ましい。トリアセチルセルロースは多くの製品が市販されており、入手容易性やコストの点でも有利である。トリアセチルセルロースの市販品の例としては、富士写真フイルム社製の商品名「UV-50」、「UV-80」、「SH-80」、「TD-80U」、「TD-TAC」、「UZ-TAC」や、コニカ社製の「KCシリーズ」等が挙げられる。一般的にこれらトリアセチルセルロースは、面内位相差(Re)はほぼゼロであるが、厚み方向位相差(Rth)は、~60nm程度を有している。
 環状ポリオレフィン樹脂の具体的としては、好ましくはノルボルネン系樹脂である。環状オレフィン系樹脂は、環状オレフィンを重合単位として重合される樹脂の総称であり、例えば、特開平1-240517号公報、特開平3-14882号公報、特開平3-122137号公報等に記載されている樹脂が挙げられる。具体例としては、環状オレフィンの開環(共)重合体、環状オレフィンの付加重合体、環状オレフィンとエチレン、プロピレン等のα-オレフィンとその共重合体(代表的にはランダム共重合体)、及び、これらを不飽和カルボン酸やその誘導体で変性したグラフト重合体、ならびに、それらの水素化物等が挙げられる。環状オレフィンの具体例としては、ノルボルネン系モノマーが挙げられる。
 環状ポリオレフィン樹脂としては、種々の製品が市販されている。具体例としては、日本ゼオン株式会社製の商品名「ゼオネックス」、「ゼオノア」、JSR株式会社製の商品名「アートン」、TICONA社製の商品名「トーパス」、三井化学株式会社製の商品律「APEL」が挙げられる。
 (メタ)アクリル系樹脂としては、Tg(ガラス転移温度)が好ましくは115℃以上、より好ましくは120℃以上、更に好ましくは125℃以上、特に好ましくは130℃以上である。Tgが115℃以上であることにより、偏光板の耐久性に優れたものとなりうる。前記(メタ)アクリル系樹脂のTgの上限値は特に限定きれないが、成形性当の観点から、好ましくは170℃以下である。(メタ)アクリル系樹脂からは、面内位相差(Re)、厚み方向位相差(Rth)がほぼゼロものフィルムを得ることができる。
 (メタ)アクリル系樹脂としては、本発明の効果を損なわない範囲内で、任意の適切な(メタ)アクリル系樹脂を採用し得る。例えば、ポリメタクリル酸メチル等のポリ(メタ)アクリル酸エステル、メタクリル酸メチル-(メタ)アクリル酸共重合、メタクリル酸メチル-(メタ)アクリル酸エステル共重合体、メタクリル酸メチル-アクリル酸エステル-(メタ)アクリル酸共重合体、(メタ)アクリル酸メチル-スチレン共重合体(MS樹脂等)、脂環族炭化水素基を有する重合体(例えば、メタクリル酸メチル-メタクリル酸シクロヘキシル共重合体、メタクリル酸メチル-(メタ)アクリル酸ノルボルニル共重合体等)が挙げられる。好ましくは、ポリ(メタ)アクリル酸メチル等のポリ(メタ)アクリル酸C1-6アルキルが挙げられる。より好ましくはメタクリル酸メチルを主成分(50~100重量%、好ましくは70~100重量%)とするメタクリル酸メチル系樹脂が挙げられる。
 (メタ)アクリル系樹脂の具体例として、例えば、三菱レイヨン株式会社製のアクリペットVHやアクリペットVRL20A、特開2004-70296号公報に記載の分子内に環構造を有する(メタ)アクリル系樹脂、分子内架橋や分子内環化反応により得られる高Tg(メタ)アクリル樹脂系が挙げられる。
 (メタ)アクリル系樹脂として、ラクトン環構造を有する(メタ)アクリル系樹脂を用いることもできる。高い耐熱性、高い透明性、二軸延伸することにより高い機械的強度を有するからである。
 ラクトン環構造を有する(メタ)アクリル系樹脂としては、特開2000-230016号公報、特開2001-151814号公報、特開2002-120326号公報、特開2002-254544号公報、特開2005-146084号公報等に記載の、ラクトン環構造を有する(メタ)アクリル系樹脂が挙げられる。
 前記透明保護フィルムは、正面位相差が40nm未満、かつ、厚み方向位相差が80nm未満であるものが、通常、用いられる。正面位相差Reは、Re=(nx-ny)×d、で表わされる。厚み方向位相差Rthは、Rth=(nx-nz)×d、で表される。また、Nz係数は、Nz=(nx-nz)/(nx-ny)、で表される。[ただし、フィルムの遅相軸方向、進相軸方向及び厚さ方向の屈折率をそれぞれnx、ny、nzとし、d(nm)はフィルムの厚みとする。遅相軸方向は、フィルム面内の屈折率の最大となる方向とする。]。尚、透明保護フィルムは、できるだけ色付きがないことが好ましい。厚み方向の位相差値が-90nm~+75nmである保護フィルムが好ましく用いられる。かかる厚み方向の位相差値(Rth)が-90nm~+75nmのものを使用することにより、透明保護フィルムに起因する偏光板の着色(光学的な着色)をほぼ解消することができる。厚み方向位相差値(Rth)は、更に好ましくは-80nm~+60nm、特に-70nm~+45nmが好ましい。
 一方、前記透明保護フィルムとして、正面位相差が40nm以上及び/又は、厚み方向位相差が80nm以上の位相差を有する位相差板を用いることができる。正面位相差は、通常、40~200nmの範囲に、厚み方向位相差は、通常、80~300nmの範囲に制御される。透明保護フィルムとして位相差板を用いる場合には、当該位相差板が透明保護フィルムとしても機能するため、薄型化を図ることができる。
 前記透明保護フィルムは、接着剤を塗工する前に、表面改質処理を行ってもよい。具体的な処理としてば、コロナ処理、プラズマ処理、プライマー処理、ケン化処理等が挙げられる。
 前記透明保護フィルムの偏光フィルムを接着させない面には、ハードコート層や反射防止処理、スティッキング防止や、拡散ないしアンチグレアを目的とした処理を施したものであってもよい。
 尚、前記反射防止層、スティッキング防止層、拡散層やアンチグレア層等は、透明保護フィルムそのものに設けることができるほか、別途光学層として透明保護フィルムとは別体のものとして設けることもできる。
 本発明の偏光板は、透明保護フィルムと偏光フィルムを、前記接着剤を用いて貼り合わせることにより製造する。当該製造方法は、前記接着剤を、偏光フィルムの前記接着剤層を形成する面及び/又は透明保護フィルムの前記接着剤層を形成する面に、塗工する工程;偏光フィルムと透明保護フィルムとを、前記偏光板用接着剤を介して貼り合わせる工程を有する。
 本実施の形態に係る偏光板は、実用に際して他の光学層と積層した光学フィルムとして用いることができる。その光学層については特に限定はないが、例えば反射板や半透過板、位相差板(1/2や1/4等の波長板を含む)、視角補償フィルム等の液晶表示装置等の形成に用いられることのある光学層を1層又は2層以上用いることができる。
 偏光板に前記光学層を積層した光学フィルムは、液晶表示装置等の製造過程で順次別個に積層する方式にても形成することができるが、予め積層して光学フィルムとしたものは、品質の安定性や組立作業等に優れていて液晶表示装置等の製造工程を向上させうる利点がある。積層には粘着層等の適宜な接着手段を用いうる。前記の偏光板やその他の光学フィルムの接着に際し、それらの光学軸は目的とする位相差特性等に応じて適宜な配置角度とすることができる。
 前述した偏光板や、偏光板を少なくとも1層積層されている光学フィルムには、液晶セル等の他部材と接着するための粘着層を設けることもできる。粘着層を形成する粘着剤は特に制限されないが、例えばアクリル系重合体、シリコーン系ポリマー、ポリエステル、ポリウレタン、ポリアミド、ポリエーテル、フッ素系やゴム系等のポリマーをベースポリマーとするものを適宜に選択して用いることができる。特に、アクリル系粘着剤の如く光学的透明性に優れ、適度な濡れ性と凝集性と接着性の粘着特性を示して、耐候性や耐熱性等に優れるものが好ましく用いうる。
 粘着層の露出面に対しては、実用に供するまでの間、その汚染防止等を目的にセパレータが仮着されてカバーされる。これにより、通例の取扱状態で粘着層に接触することを防止できる。セパレータとしては、前記厚さ条件を除き、例えばプラスチックフィルム、ゴムシート、紙、布、不織布、ネット、発泡シートや金属箔、それらのラミネート体等の適宜な薄葉体を、必要に応じシリコーン系や長鎖アルキル系、フッ素系や硫化モリブデン等の適宜な剥離剤でコート処理したもの等の、従来に準じた適宜なものを用いうる。
 本実施の形態に係る偏光板は液晶表示装置や有機エレクトロルミネセンス装置等の各種画像表示装置に好ましく用いることができる。液晶表示装置に適用する場合、本実施の形態に係る偏光板は、液晶セルの表面及び裏面にそれぞれ光透過軸が直交する様に配置される。これにより、可視光の波長域における光漏れが低減され、表示画面に変色が生じるのを防止した液晶表示装置が得られる。前記液晶セルとしては特に限定されず、例えばTN型やSTN型、π型、VA型、IPS型、等の任意なタイプのものを適用することができる。
 以下に、この発明の好適な実施例を例示的に詳しく説明する。但し、この実施例に記載されている材料や配合量等は、特に限定的な記載がない限りは、この発明の範囲をそれらのみに限定する趣旨のものではない。
 (実施例1)
 平均重合度2400、厚さ75μm、フィルム幅50mmのポリビニルアルコール(PVA)フィルム(クラレ(株)製、商品名;VF-PS7500)を用い、以下の工程を順次行うことにより、本実施例に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムを作製した。
  <膨潤工程>
 30℃の純水で満たした膨潤浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、前記純水中に30秒間浸漬して膨潤させた。また、延伸倍率が2.2倍になるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <染色工程>
 ヨウ素10重量%を含む30℃のヨウ素含有染色溶液で満たした染色浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ素含有染色溶液に5秒間浸漬して染色を行った。本工程では、延伸処理は行わなかった。
  <延伸工程>
 染色後の前記PVAフィルムを染色浴から取り出し、浴外(温度25℃、相対湿度45%Rh)で一軸延伸を行った。延伸倍率は初期の未延伸状態のPVAフィルムに対し3.3倍(浴外での延伸倍率1.48倍)とした。
  <架橋工程>
 ホウ酸3重量%とヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ホウ酸水溶液中に28秒間浸漬しながら、延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し3.6倍になるまで一軸延伸して架橋させた。その後、ホウ酸4重量%とヨウ化カリウム5重量%を含有する60℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴中で60秒間浸漬しながら延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し5.92倍になるまで一軸延伸をした。
  <洗浄工程>
 ヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のヨウ化カリウム水溶液で満たした洗浄浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ化カリウム水溶液中に10秒間浸漬して水洗処理を行った。
 前記洗浄浴からPVAフィルムを取り出し、オーブンを用いてPVAフィルムの乾燥を行った。乾燥条件としては、乾燥温度60℃、オーブン内の通過時間を4分間とした。これにより、本実施例に係る偏光フィルムを作製した。
 (比較例1)
 実施例1で用いたPVAフィルムと同様のものを用いて、以下の工程を順次行うことにより、本比較例に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムを作製した。
  <膨潤工程>
 30℃の純水で満たした膨潤浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、前記純水中に30秒間浸漬して膨潤させた。また、延伸倍率が2.2倍になるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <染色工程>
 ヨウ素3.8重量%を含む30℃のヨウ素含有染色溶液で満たした染色浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ素含有染色溶液に27秒間浸漬して染色しながら一軸延伸を行った。延伸倍率は、初期の未延伸状態のPVAフィルムに対し3.3倍とした。
  <架橋工程>
 ホウ酸3重量%とヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ホウ酸水溶液中に28秒間浸漬しながら、延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し3.6倍になるまで一軸延伸して架橋させた。その後、ホウ酸4重量%とヨウ化カリウム5重量%を含有する60℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴中で60秒間浸漬しながら延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し5.92倍になるまで一軸延伸をした。
  <洗浄工程>
 ヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のヨウ化カリウム水溶液で満たした洗浄浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ化カリウム水溶液中に10秒間浸漬して水洗処理を行った。
 前記洗浄浴からPVAフィルムを取り出し、オーブンを用いてPVAフィルムの乾燥を行った。乾燥条件としては、乾燥温度60℃、オーブン内の通過時間を4分間とした。これにより、本比較例に係る偏光フィルムを作製した。
 (実施例2)
 前記実施例1で用いたPVAフィルムと同様のものを用いて、以下の工程を順次行うことにより、本実施例に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムを作製した。
  <膨潤工程>
 30℃の純水で満たした膨潤浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、前記純水中に30秒間浸漬して膨潤させた。また、延伸倍率が2.2倍になるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <染色工程>
 ヨウ素9重量%を含む30℃のヨウ素含有染色溶液で満たした染色浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ素含有染色溶液に5秒間浸漬して染色を行った。また、延伸倍率が2.4倍となるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <延伸工程>
 染色後の前記PVAフィルムを染色浴から取り出し、浴外(温度25℃、相対湿度45%Rh)で一軸延伸を行った。延伸倍率は初期の未延伸状態のPVAフィルムに対し3.3倍(浴外での延伸倍率1.4倍)とした。
  <架橋工程>
 ホウ酸3重量%とヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ホウ酸水溶液中に28秒間浸漬しながら、延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し3.6倍になるまで一軸延伸して架橋させた。その後、ホウ酸4重量%とヨウ化カリウム5重量%を含有する60℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴中で60秒間浸漬しながら延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し5.92倍になるまで一軸延伸をした。
  <洗浄工程>
 ヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のヨウ化カリウム水溶液で満たした洗浄浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ化カリウム水溶液中に10秒間浸漬して水洗処理を行った。
 前記洗浄浴からPVAフィルムを取り出し、オーブンを用いてPVAフィルムの乾燥を行った。乾燥条件としては、乾燥温度60℃、オーブン内の通過時間を4分間とした。これにより、本実施例に係る偏光フィルムを作製した。
 (実施例3)
 前記実施例1で用いたPVAフィルムと同様のものを用いて、以下の工程を順次行うことにより、本実施例に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムを作製した。
  <膨潤工程>
 30℃の純水で満たした膨潤浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、前記純水中に25秒間浸漬して膨潤させた。また、延伸倍率が2.0倍になるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <染色工程>
 ヨウ素10.5重量%を含む30℃のヨウ素含有染色溶液で満たした染色浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ素含有染色溶液に5秒間浸漬して染色を行った。本工程では、延伸処理は行わなかった。
  <延伸工程>
 染色後の前記PVAフィルムを染色浴から取り出し、浴外(温度25℃、相対湿度45%Rh)で一軸延伸を行った。延伸倍率は初期の未延伸状態のPVAフィルムに対し3.3倍(浴外での延伸倍率1.64倍)とした。
  <架橋工程>
 ホウ酸3重量%とヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ホウ酸水溶液中に28秒間浸漬しながら、延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し3.6倍になるまで一軸延伸して架橋させた。その後、ホウ酸4重量%とヨウ化かリム5重量%を含有する60℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴中で60秒間浸漬しながら延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し5.92倍になるまで一軸延伸をした。
  <洗浄工程>
 ヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のヨウ化カリウム水溶液で満たした洗浄浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ化カリウム水溶液中に10秒間浸漬して水洗処理を行った。
 前記洗浄浴からPVAフィルムを取り出し、オーブンを用いてPVAフィルムの乾燥を行った。乾燥条件としては、乾燥温度60℃、オーブン内の通過時間を4分間とした。これにより、本実施例に係る偏光フィルムを作製した。
 (比較例2)
 前記実施例1で用いたPVAフィルムと同様のものを用いて、以下の工程を順次行うことにより、本比較例に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムを作製した。
  <膨潤工程>
 30℃の純水で満たした膨潤浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、前記純水中に25秒間浸漬して膨潤させた。また、延伸倍率が2.0倍になるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <染色工程>
 ヨウ素3.8重量%を含む30℃のヨウ素含有染色溶液で満たした染色浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ素含有染色溶液に32秒間浸漬して染色しながら一軸延伸を行った。延伸倍率は、初期の未延伸状態のPVAフィルムに対し3.3倍とした。
  <架橋工程>
 ホウ酸3重量%とヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ホウ酸水溶液中に28秒間浸漬しながら、延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し3.6倍になるまで一軸延伸して架橋させた。その後、ホウ酸4重量%とヨウ化カリウム5重量%を含有する60℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴中で60秒間浸漬しながら延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し5.92倍になるまで一軸延伸をした。
  <洗浄工程>
 ヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のヨウ化カリウム水溶液で満たした洗浄浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ化カリウム水溶液中に10秒間浸漬して水洗処理を行った。
 前記洗浄浴からPVAフィルムを取り出し、オーブンを用いてPVAフィルムの乾燥を行った。乾燥条件としては、乾燥温度60℃、オーブン内の通過時間を4分間とした。これにより、本比較例に係る偏光フィルムを作製した。
 (実施例4)
 前記実施例1で用いたPVAフィルムと同様のものを用いて、以下の工程を順次行うことにより、本実施例に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムを作製した。
  <膨潤工程>
 30℃の純水で満たした膨潤浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、前記純水中に25秒間浸漬して膨潤させた。また、延伸倍率が2.0倍になるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <染色工程>
 ヨウ素10.5重量%を含む30℃のヨウ素含有染色溶液で満たした染色浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ素含有染色溶液に5秒間浸漬して染色を行った。本工程では、延伸処理は行わなかった。
  <延伸工程>
 染色後の前記PVAフィルムを染色浴から取り出し、浴外(温度25℃、相対湿度45%Rh)で一軸延伸を行った。延伸倍率は初期の未延伸状態のPVAフィルムに対し2.5倍(浴外での延伸倍率1.25倍)とした。
  <架橋工程>
 ホウ酸3重量%とヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ホウ酸水溶液中に28秒間浸漬しながら、延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し3.6倍になるまで一軸延伸して架橋させた。その後、ホウ酸4重量%とヨウ化カリウム5重量%を含有する60℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴中で60秒間浸漬しながら延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し5.92倍になるまで一軸延伸をした。
  <洗浄工程>
 ヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のヨウ化カリウム水溶液で満たした洗浄浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ化カリウム水溶液中に10秒間浸漬して水洗処理を行った。
 前記洗浄浴からPVAフィルムを取り出し、オーブンを用いてPVAフィルムの乾燥を行った。乾燥条件としては、乾燥温度60℃、オーブン内の通過時間を4分間とした。これにより、本実施例に係る偏光フィルムを作製した。
 (比較例3)
 実施例1で用いたPVAフィルムと同様のものを用いて、以下の工程を順次行うことにより、本比較例に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムを作製した。
  <膨潤工程>
 30℃の純水で満たした膨潤浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、前記純水中に25秒間浸漬して膨潤させた。また、延伸倍率が2.0倍になるまでPVAフィルムの一軸延伸を行った。
  <染色工程>
 ヨウ素4.5重量%を含む30℃のヨウ素含有染色溶液で満たした染色浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ素含有染色溶液に13秒間浸漬して染色しながら一軸延伸を行った。延伸倍率は、初期の未延伸状態のPVAフィルムに対し2.5倍とした。
  <架橋工程>
 ホウ酸3重量%とヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴に、前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ホウ酸水溶液中に28秒間浸漬しながら、延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し3.6倍になるまで一軸延伸して架橋させた。その後、ホウ酸4重量%とヨウ化カリウム5重量%を含有する60℃のホウ酸水溶液で満たした架橋浴中で60秒間浸漬しながら延伸倍率が初期のPVAフィルムに対し5.92倍になるまで一軸延伸をした。
  <洗浄工程>
 ヨウ化カリウム3重量%を含有する30℃のヨウ化カリウム水溶液で満たした洗浄浴に前記PVAフィルムを搬送し、ヨウ化カリウム水溶液中に10秒間浸漬して水洗処理を行った。
 前記洗浄浴からPVAフィルムを取り出し、オーブンを用いてPVAフィルムの乾燥を行った。乾燥条件としては、乾燥温度60℃、オーブン内の通過時間を4分間とした。これにより、本比較例に係る偏光フィルムを作製した。
 (単体透過率)
 各実施例及び比較例に係る偏光フィルムの単体透過率は、積分球付き分光光度計(日本分光株式会社製のV7100)を用いて、JIS Z 8701-1982に規定の2度視野(C光源)により視感度補整したY値で示した。結果を表1に示す。
 (直交吸光度)
 480nm及び610nmの直交吸光度は、前記分光光度計を用いて、偏光フィルムの480nm及び610nmの直交透過率Tcをそれぞれ測定した後、(直交吸光度)=Log10Tcによりそれぞれ算出して求めた。
 (直交透過率)
 各偏光フィルムにおける410nmの直交透過率は、前記分光光度計を用いて測定した。
 (ヨウ素含有量)
 ヨウ素系偏光フィルム中における2.85mm当たりのヨウ素含有量は、蛍光X線分析装置[理学電気工業(株)製、商品名「ZSX100e」]を用いて測定した。
 (結果)
 後記表1から明らかな通り、実施例1に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムは、延伸工程ではなく染色工程において染色浴中で延伸を行った比較例1に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムと比較して、410nmにおける直交透過率が低減していることが確認された。同様に、実施例2に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムは比較例2に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムに比べ、実施例3に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムは比較例3に係るヨウ素系偏光フィルムに比べ、それぞれ410nmにおける直交透過率が低減していた。以上より、各実施例1~3に係る偏光フィルムを備えた偏光板であると、可視光の短波長域における光漏れの低減が可能であることが分かった。

Claims (15)

  1.  高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着配向させたヨウ素系偏光フィルムであって、
     前記ヨウ素の含有量が2.85mm当たり1.9~3重量%の範囲内であり、単体透過率43~45%の範囲内における波長480nmの直交吸光度A1に対する波長610nmの直交吸光度A2の比(A2/A1)が1.16以下であるヨウ素系偏光フィルム。
  2.  前記高分子フィルムはポリビニルアルコールフィルムである請求の範囲第1項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルム。
  3.  前記ポリビニルアルコールフィルムは、重合度が500~10000のポリビニルアルコール系樹脂により形成されたものである請求の範囲第1項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルム。
  4.  高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着配向させたヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法であって、
     前記高分子フィルムを、ヨウ素を含む溶液中に浸漬させることにより、当該高分子フィルムにヨウ素を吸着させる染色工程と、
     染色後の前記高分子フィルムを前記溶液から取り出し、その状態で前記高分子フィルムを加熱することなく所定の延伸倍率に一軸延伸する延伸工程と、
     前記一軸延伸後の高分子フィルムを架橋浴中に浸漬することにより、当該高分子フィルムを架橋する架橋工程とを含むヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  5.  前記染色工程ではヨウ素を含む溶液中での高分子フィルムの一軸延伸を行わない請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  6.  前記延伸工程において行う一軸延伸の延伸倍率は1.2~1.8倍の範囲内である請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  7.  前記染色工程における前記ヨウ素を含む溶液の温度が5~42℃の範囲内であり、前記高分子フィルムの浸漬時間は1分~20分である請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  8.  前記染色工程のヨウ素を含む溶液におけるヨウ素の濃度は、0.010~10重量%の範囲内である請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  9.  前記染色工程におけるヨウ素を含む溶液にはヨウ化物が添加されており、前記ヨウ化物の濃度が0.010~10重量%の範囲内である請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  10.  前記架橋工程における架橋浴の温度は20℃~70℃の範囲内であり、前記一軸延伸後の高分子フィルムの浸漬時間は1秒~15分である請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  11.  前記架橋工程における架橋浴中の架橋剤の濃度は、1~10重量%の範囲内である請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  12.  前記架橋工程における架橋浴中にはヨウ化物が添加されており、前記ヨウ化物の濃度が0.05~15重量%の範囲内である請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  13.  前記架橋工程後の高分子フィルムを洗浄浴中に浸漬して洗浄する洗浄工程を含む請求の範囲第4項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
  14.  前記洗浄工程後の高分子フィルムを、乾燥温度20℃~80℃、乾燥時間1分~10分の条件下で乾燥させる乾燥工程を含む請求の範囲第11項に記載のヨウ素系偏光フィルムの製造方法。
