Description

放電灯点灯装置、プロジェクター及び放電灯点灯装置の制御方法
 本発明は、放電灯点灯装置、プロジェクター及び放電灯点灯装置の制御方法に関する。
 プロジェクターの光源として高圧水銀ランプやメタルハライドランプなどの放電灯が使用されている。放電灯の最適な駆動条件(駆動電流の電流値、周波数及び波形)は放電灯の状態により異なる。例えば、点灯開始直後と点灯からある程度の時間を経過した後では最適な駆動条件は異なり、放電灯の使用期間が短いものと寿命が近いものでも最適な駆動条件は異なる。また、放電灯の種類によっても最適な駆動条件は異なる。
 放電灯を最適ではない駆動条件で使用することは、放電管が黒化したり失透したりする原因となる。また、フリッカの発生原因にもなり、例えば放電灯をプロジェクターに用いる場合には、プロジェクターの使用中に投射される映像の明るさが変動することになる。
 そのため、例えば特表2002-533884公報では、放電灯点灯装置の内部にあらかじめ複数の駆動条件を設定した制御回路を設け、放電灯の状態に応じて駆動条件を適宜選択可能とする放電灯点灯装置が提案されている。
 しかしながら、あらかじめ駆動条件を設定した制御回路は放電灯点灯装置の内部にあるため、放電灯点灯時には、あらかじめ設定した駆動条件以外の駆動条件に変更することはできなかった。そのため、放電灯点灯装置の柔軟な設計変更は困難だった。
 また、放電灯の種類により最適な駆動条件が異なるため、放電灯の種類ごとに放電灯点灯装置を別個に用意する必要があった。
 さらに、高圧放電灯の場合には個体による特性の差が大きいため、放電灯単体ごとに異なった駆動条件での制御が求められる。このため、放電灯点灯装置(バラスト)内部に放電灯単体ごとに対応できるだけの駆動波形を発生させる装置や記憶装置(メモリ)等を用意しておくのは非常に困難であった。
 本発明は、以上のような問題点に鑑みてなされたものであり、放電灯の駆動条件を放電灯点灯装置の外部から自由に設定可能な放電灯点灯装置、これを用いたプロジェクター及び放電灯点灯装置の制御方法を提供することを目的とする。
 (1)本発明に係る放電灯点灯装置は、放電灯を駆動するための駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作を行う制御部を含む放電灯点灯装置において、前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを前記第1制御動作とは異なる態様で制御可能な駆動制御信号を受け付ける信号受付部を含み、前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けた場合には、前記駆動制御信号に基づいて前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第2制御動作を行うことを特徴とする。
 本発明によれば、放電灯の駆動条件を放電灯点灯装置の外部から自由に設定することが可能な放電灯点灯装置を実現することができる。
 (2)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに関連する駆動情報を記憶する記憶部を含み、前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けなかった場合には、前記記憶部に記憶された前記駆動情報に基づいて前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作を行ってもよい。
 (3)この放電灯点灯装置は、放電灯駆動用電力を生成する電力制御回路と、前記電力制御回路が出力する直流電流を所与のタイミングで極性反転することで前記放電灯を駆動するための前記駆動電流を生成出力する交流変換回路とを含み、前記制御部は、前記直流電流の電流値を制御するための電流制御信号を前記電力制御回路に対して出力するとともに、前記駆動電流の極性反転タイミングを制御するための制御信号を前記交流変換回路に対して出力することにより、前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御してもよい。
 (4)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記電力制御回路は、前記直流電流を出力するスイッチング制御電力回路を含み、前記制御部は、前記電流制御信号としてパルス幅変調信号を前記スイッチング制御電力回路に対して出力することにより、前記直流電流の電流値を制御してもよい。
 (5)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記スイッチング制御電力回路は、降圧チョッパー回路であってもよい。
 (6)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記交流変換回路は、前記駆動電流を生成出力するインバーターブリッジ回路を含んでもよい。
 (7)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けたか否かを判定する判定部を含み、前記制御部は、前記判定部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けたものと判定した場合には、前記第2制御動作を行い、前記判定部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けなかったものと判定した場合には、前記第2制御動作を行ってもよい。
 (8)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記判定部は、前記駆動制御信号の振幅が閾値を超えた場合には前記駆動制御信号を受け付けたものと判定し、前記駆動制御信号の振幅が閾値を超えなかった場合には前記駆動制御信号を受け付けなかったものと判定してもよい。
 (9)この放電灯点灯装置は、アナログ信号をデジタル情報に変換する変換部を含み、前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに対応するアナログ信号として受け付け、前記変換部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記アナログ信号をデジタル情報に変換し、前記制御部は、前記変換部で変換された前記デジタル情報に基づいて前記第2制御動作を行ってもよい。
 (10)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の極性反転タイミングに対応する極性反転タイミングを有するアナログ信号として受け付け、前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の極性反転タイミングに関連付けたタイミングで前記駆動電流が極性反転するように前記交流変換回路を制御してもよい。
 (11)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の周波数に対応する周波数を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の周波数に関連付けた周波数で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記交流変換回路を制御してもよい。
 (12)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流のデューティー比に対応するデューティー比を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号のデューティー比に関連付けたデューティー比で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記交流変換回路を制御してもよい。
 (13)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の電流値に対応する振幅を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の振幅に関連付けた電流値で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記電力制御回路を制御してもよい。
 (14)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の波形に対応する波形を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の波形に関連付けた波形で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記電力制御回路を制御してもよい。
 (15)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記駆動制御信号は、プロジェクターの制御部から供給されてもよい。
 (16)この放電灯点灯装置は、前記放電灯の駆動電圧を検出し、駆動電圧情報を出力する動作検出部を含み、前記駆動制御信号は、駆動電圧情報に基づいてプロジェクターの制御部から供給されてもよい。
 (17)本発明に係るプロジェクターは、これらのいずれかの放電灯点灯装置を含むことを特徴とする。
 (18)本発明に係る放電灯点灯装置の制御方法は、放電灯を駆動するための駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御可能な駆動制御信号を受け付ける信号受付部を含み、前記駆動電流を出力する放電灯点灯装置の制御方法であって、前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作を行い、前記信号受付部が、前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御可能な駆動制御信号を受け付け、前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けた場合には、前記駆動制御信号に基づいて前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第2制御動作を行うことを特徴とする。

 以下、本発明の好適な実施形態について図面を用いて詳細に説明する。なお、以下に説明する実施の形態は、特許請求の範囲に記載された本発明の内容を不当に限定するものではない。また以下で説明される構成の全てが本発明の必須構成要件であるとは限らない。
 1.放電灯点灯装置
 (1)放電灯点灯装置の構成
 図1は、本実施の形態に係る放電灯点灯装置の回路図の一例である。
 放電灯点灯装置10は、電力制御回路20を含む。電力制御回路20は、放電灯90に供給する駆動電力を生成する。電力制御回路20は、例えばスイッチング制御電力回路で構成してもよい。本実施の形態においては、電力制御回路20は、直流電源80を入力とし、当該入力電圧を降圧して出力する降圧チョッパー回路(スイッチング制御電力回路の一種)で構成されている。
 電力制御回路20、スイッチ素子21、ダイオード22、コイル23及びコンデンサー24を含んで構成されてもよい。スイッチ素子21は、例えばトランジスターで構成されてもよい。本実施の形態においては、スイッチ素子21の一端は直流電源80の正電圧側に接続され、他端はダイオード22のカソード端子及びコイル23の一端に接続されている。また、コイル23の他端にはコンデンサー24の一端が接続され、コンデンサー24の他端はダイオード22のアノード端子及び直流電源80の負電圧側に接続されている。スイッチ素子21の制御端子には制御部40から電流制御信号が入力されてスイッチ素子21のON/OFFが制御される。電流制御信号には、例えばパルス幅変調(PWM;Pulse Width Modulation)信号が用いられてもよい。
 ここで、スイッチ素子21がONすると、コイル23に電流が流れ、コイル23にエネルギーが蓄えられる。その後、スイッチ素子21がOFFすると、コイル23に蓄えられたエネルギーがコンデンサー24とダイオード22とを通る経路で放出される。その結果、スイッチ素子21がONする時間の割合に応じた直流電力が発生する。これにより、電力制御回路20は、この直流電力と放電灯90の駆動電圧とに基づいて定まる直流電流を出力する。
 放電灯点灯装置10は、交流変換回路30を含む。交流変換回路30は、電力制御回路20が出力する直流電流を所与のタイミングで極性反転することで、任意の周波数及びデューティー比の放電灯駆動用の駆動電流を生成する。本実施の形態においては、交流変換回路30はインバーターブリッジ回路(フルブリッジ回路)で構成されている。
 交流変換回路30は、例えば、トランジスターなどの第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34を含んで構成され、直列接続された第1及び第2のスイッチ素子31及び32と、直列接続された第3及び第4のスイッチ素子33及び34を、互いに並列接続して構成される。第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34の制御端子には、それぞれ制御部40から制御信号が入力され、第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34のON/OFFが制御される。
 交流変換回路30は、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34と、第2及び第3のスイッチ素子32及び33を交互にON/OFFを繰り返すことにより、電力制御回路20の出力電圧の極性を交互に反転し、第1及び第2のスイッチ素子31及び32の共通接続点及び第3及び第4のスイッチ素子33及び34の共通接続点から、制御された周波数の駆動電流Iを出力する。
 すなわち、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34がONの時には第2及び第3のスイッチ素子32及び33をOFFにし、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34がOFFの時には第2及び第3のスイッチ素子32及び33をONにするように制御する。したがって、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34がONの時には、コンデンサー24の一端から第1のスイッチ素子31、放電灯90、第4のスイッチ素子34の順に流れる駆動電流Iが発生する。また、第2及び第3のスイッチ素子32及び33をONの時には、コンデンサー24の一端から第3のスイッチ素子33、放電灯90、第2のスイッチ素子32の順に流れる駆動電流Iが発生する。
 放電灯点灯装置10は、制御部40を含む。制御部40は、駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作と、後述する駆動制御信号Sに基づいて駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを、第1制御動作とは異なる態様で制御する第2制御動作を行う。駆動電流Iのデューティー比は、駆動電流Iの1周期の長さに対する正極性となる期間の長さの割合である。
 制御部40は、電力制御回路20が出力する直流電流の電流値を制御するための電流制御信号を電力制御回路20に対して出力するとともに、駆動電流Iの極性反転タイミングを制御するための制御信号を交流変換回路30に対して出力することにより、放電灯90の駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する。
 本実施の形態においては、制御部40は、判定部41及びマイコン42含んで構成されている。なお、判定部41は、制御部40とは独立に設けてもよい。また、判定部41は、例えばマイコン42に含まれてもよい。
 判定部41は、駆動制御信号Sの有無を判定する。判定部41は、例えば駆動制御信号Sの振幅が閾値を超えた場合には駆動制御信号Sを受け付けたものと判定し、駆動制御信号Sの振幅が閾値を超えなかった場合には駆動制御信号Sを受け付けなかったものと判定してもよい。
 マイコン42は、判定部41が駆動制御信号Sを受け付けたものと判定した場合には、駆動制御信号Sに基づいて駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第2制御動作を行い、判定部41が駆動制御信号Sを受け付けなかったものと判定した場合には、後述する記憶部43に記憶された駆動情報に基づいて駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作を行う。
 なお、マイコン42は、後述する放電灯点灯装置10内部に設けた動作検出部60により検出した放電灯90の駆動電圧及び駆動電流Iを監視しながら、所望の駆動条件で放電灯90を駆動するように電力制御回路20及び交流変換回路30を制御してもよい。
 本実施の形態においては、マイコン42は記憶部43を含んで構成されている。なお、記憶部43は、制御部40やマイコン42とは独立に設けてもよい。
 マイコン42は、記憶部43に格納された情報に基づき、電力制御回路20及び交流変換回路30を制御してもよい。記憶部43には、例えば第1制御動作時の駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに関連する駆動情報が格納されていてもよい。また、記憶部43には、例えば駆動制御信号Sに基づいて、第2制御動作時の駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形に関する情報が格納されてもよい。
 なお、制御部40は、後述する信号受付部50から記憶部43までの経路の途中(判定部41との前後は問わない)に、アナログ信号をデジタル情報に変換する変換部44を含んでもよい。変換部44は、制御部40とは独立に設けてもよい。
 放電灯点灯装置10は、信号受付部50を含む。信号受付部50は、駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御可能な駆動制御信号Sの入力を受け付ける。
 信号受付部50は、例えばフォトトランジスターを含み、発光ダイオードを介した光信号として駆動制御信号Sを入力することにより、駆動制御信号Sの信号源と放電灯点灯装置10を絶縁した構成としてもよい。
 信号受付部50は、例えばフォトカプラを介した駆動制御信号Sを受け付けてもよい。また、信号受付部50は、例えばフォトカプラを含み、フォトカプラを介して駆動制御信号Sを受け付けてもよい。
 駆動制御信号Sの信号源と放電灯点灯装置10を絶縁する必要がない場合には、信号受付部50は、例えばバッファアンプを含み、バッファアンプを介して駆動制御信号Sを受け付けてもよい。
 信号受付部50は、例えば、駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに対応するデジタル情報を含む駆動制御信号Sを受け付け、制御部40は、駆動制御信号Sに含まれるデジタル情報に基づいて第2制御動作を行ってもよい。
 また例えば、信号受付部50は、駆動制御信号Sを駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに対応するアナログ信号として受け付け、変換部44は、信号受付部50が受け付けたアナログ信号をデジタル情報に変換し、制御部40は、変換部44で変換されたデジタル情報に基づいて第2制御動作を行ってもよい。
 放電灯点灯装置10は、動作検出部60を含んでもよい。動作検出部60は、放電灯90の動作、例えば放電灯の駆動電圧や駆動電流Iを検出し、駆動電圧情報や駆動電流情報を出力してもよい。本実施の形態においては、動作検出部60は、第1乃至第3の抵抗61乃至63を含んで構成されている。
 動作検出部60は、放電灯90と並列に、互いに直列接続された第1及び第2の抵抗61及び62で分圧した電圧により駆動電圧を検出し、放電灯90に直列に接続された第3の抵抗63に発生する電圧により駆動電流Iを検出している。
 放電灯点灯装置10は、イグナイター回路70を含んでもよい。イグナイター回路70は、放電灯90の点灯開始時にのみ動作し、放電灯90の点灯開始時に放電灯90の電極間を絶縁破壊して放電路を形成するために必要な高電圧(第1制御動作時よりも高い電圧)を放電灯90の電極間に供給する。本実施の形態においては、イグナイター回路70は、放電灯90と並列に接続されている。
 (2)放電灯点灯装置の動作
 次に、本実施の形態に係る放電灯点灯装置10の動作を説明する。図2は、放電灯点灯装置10の動作を説明するためのフローチャートである。
 ユーザーの操作等により点灯命令を受け付けた後の放電灯点灯装置10は、駆動制御信号Sの有無を判定する(ステップS10)。駆動制御信号Sの有無を判定は、判定部41で行う。判定部41は、例えば駆動制御信号Sの振幅が閾値を超えた場合には駆動制御信号Sを受け付けたものと判定し、駆動制御信号Sの振幅が閾値を超えなかった場合には駆動制御信号Sを受け付けなかったと判定してもよい。
 閾値は、駆動制御信号Sとして有意な信号が入力されたか否かを判断するために十分な値を設定する。これにより、ノイズ等の入力による誤動作を抑制することができる。
 駆動制御信号Sを受け付けなかったものと判定した場合(ステップS10でNOの場合)には、放電灯点灯装置10は、第1制御動作で放電灯90を駆動する(ステップS12)。第1制御動作は、放電灯点灯装置10に設定された電流値、周波数、デューティー比又は波形をもった駆動電流Iで放電灯90を制御する動作である。放電灯点灯装置10に設定された電流値、周波数、デューティー比又は波形に関連する駆動情報は、例えば記憶部43に格納されていてもよい。
 ステップS12で駆動制御信号Sを受け付けたものと判定された場合(ステップS12でYESの場合)には、放電灯点灯装置10は、第2制御動作で放電灯90を駆動する(ステップS14)。
 第2制御動作は、駆動制御信号Sに基づいて駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御して、放電灯90を制御する動作である。
 例えば、信号受付部50が、駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに対応するデジタル情報を含む駆動制御信号Sを受け付け、制御部40が、駆動制御信号Sに含まれるデジタル情報に基づいて第2制御動作を行ってもよい。
 また例えば、信号受付部50が、駆動制御信号Sを駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに対応するアナログ信号として受け付け、変換部44が、信号受付部50が受け付けたアナログ信号をデジタル情報に変換(サンプリング)し、制御部40が、変換部44で変換されたデジタル情報に基づいて第2制御動作を行ってもよい。
 この場合、例えば、信号受付部50は、駆動制御信号Sを駆動電流Iの極性反転タイミングに対応する極性反転タイミングを有するアナログ信号として受け付け、制御部40は、信号受付部50が受け付けた駆動制御信号Sの極性反転タイミングに関連付けたタイミングで駆動電流Iが極性反転するように交流変換回路30を制御してもよい。
 また例えば、信号受付部50は、駆動制御信号Sを駆動電流Iの周波数に対応する周波数を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、制御部40は、信号受付部50が受け付けた駆動制御信号Sの周波数に関連付けた周波数で駆動電流Iを供給するように交流変換回路30を制御してもよい。
 また例えば、信号受付部50は、駆動制御信号Sを駆動電流Iのデューティー比に対応するデューティー比を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、制御部40は、信号受付部50が受け付けた駆動制御信号Sのデューティー比に関連付けたデューティー比で駆動電流Iを供給するように交流変換回路30を制御してもよい。
 また例えば、信号受付部50は、駆動制御信号Sを駆動電流Iの電流値に対応する振幅を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、制御部40は、信号受付部50が受け付けた駆動制御信号Sの振幅に関連付けた電流値で駆動電流Iを供給するように電力制御回路20を制御してもよい。
 また例えば、信号受付部50は、駆動制御信号Sを駆動電流Iの波形に対応する波形を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、制御部40は、信号受付部50が受け付けた駆動制御信号Sの波形に関連付けた波形で駆動電流Iを供給するように電力制御回路20を制御してもよい。
 図3は、駆動電流Iと駆動制御信号Sとの対応関係の一例を示すタイミングチャートである。図3の100で示すタイミングチャートの横軸は時間、縦軸は駆動電流Iの電流値である。図3の200で示すタイミングチャートの横軸は時間、縦軸は駆動制御信号Sの電圧値である。
 時刻t1までにおいては、信号受付部50に駆動制御信号Sは入力されていない。この場合、制御部40は、第1制御処理を行う。図3の100に示す例では、第1制御処理時の駆動電流Iは、周波数f1でデューティー比が50%の矩形波になっている。
 時刻t1以降では、信号受付部50に駆動制御信号Sが入力されている。図3の200に示す例では、駆動制御信号Sは、周波数f1でデューティー比が50%、半周期内で電圧値の絶対値が直線的に単調増加する波形になっている。
 信号受付部50にアナログ波形として入力された駆動制御信号Sは、変換部44でデジタル情報に変換(サンプリング)され、記憶部43に格納される。記憶部43に格納されたデジタル情報を基に、制御部40は、時刻t2から第2制御処理を行う。時刻t2は、例えば時刻t1からサンプリング及び駆動電流Iの波形の生成に必要な時間経過後の時刻である。また、時刻t2を駆動電流Iの極性反転タイミングに同期させてもよい。第2制御処理時の駆動電流Iは、駆動制御信号Sと同様に、周波数f1でデューティー比が50%、半周期内で電流値の絶対値が直線的に単調増加する波形となる。
 図3に示す例では、駆動制御信号Sに基づいて駆動電流Iの波形を変更する例について説明したが、同様の手法により駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の条件を任意に組み合わせて駆動条件を設定することが可能である。
 このように、本実施の形態における放電灯点灯装置10は、駆動制御信号Sをアナログ信号として受け付け、変換部44でサンプリングされた振幅、周波数、デューティー比又は波形に基づいて駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比又は波形を設定できることにより、駆動条件を設定する自由度が大きくなる。
 図2におけるステップS14の後、放電灯点灯装置10は、ユーザー操作等により消灯命令の有無を判定する(ステップS16)。ステップS16の判定は、例えば制御部40で行ってもよい。消灯命令があった場合(ステップS16でYESの場合)には、放電灯点灯装置10は、放電灯90の駆動を終了する。消灯命令がなかった場合(ステップS16でNOの場合)には、放電灯点灯装置10は、ステップS10~S16を繰り返す。
 図4は、駆動電流Iの波形と、制御部40から電力制御回路20のスイッチ素子21及び交流変換回路30の第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34への制御信号波形との関係の一例を示すタイミングチャートである。図4では、上から順に、駆動電流Iの波形、スイッチ素子21への電流制御信号波形、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34への制御信号波形、第2及び第3のスイッチ素子32及び33への制御信号波形を示している。駆動電流Iの波形の波高は電流値を表している。また、例えばスイッチ素子21及び第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34を電界効果トランジスター(FET)で構成した場合には、制御信号波形の波高は電圧値を表す。
 本実施の形態に係る放電灯点灯装置10においては、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34への制御信号波形がONになっている区間、例えば区間T1では、駆動電流Iの波形は正の電流値示す。第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34への制御信号波形がONになっている区間、例えば区間T2では、駆動電流Iの波形は負の電流値を示す。交流変換回路30を構成しているインバーターブリッジ回路(フルブリッジ回路)の短絡を防止するために、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34への制御信号と第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34への制御信号は、同時にONにならないように制御されている。なお、区間T1と区間T2の間に、第1及び第4のスイッチ素子31及び34への制御信号と第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34への制御信号が同時にOFFになる区間Tdを設定してインバーターブリッジ回路(フルブリッジ回路)の短絡を防止してもよい。区間Tdにおいては、駆動電流Iの波形は0の電流値を示す。
 本実施の形態に係る放電灯点灯装置10においては、駆動電流Iの波形が示す電流値の絶対値は、対応する区間においてスイッチ素子21がONになっている時間の割合(デューティー比)に比例する。例えば、区間T3よりも区間T4において、スイッチ素子21がONになっている時間の割合(デューティー比)が大きくなるように制御することにより、区間T3よりも区間T4において相対的に駆動電流Iの電流値の絶対値が大きくなるように制御することができる。
 したがって、制御部40から電力制御回路20のスイッチ素子21及び交流変換回路30の第1乃至第4のスイッチ素子31乃至34への制御信号を任意に組み合わせることにより、駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形を任意に設定することが可能になる。
 このように、放電灯点灯装置10を、駆動制御信号Sに基づき、制御部40から電力制御回路20及び交流変換回路30への制御信号波形を制御できる構成とすることにより、放電灯の駆動条件を放電灯点灯装置10の外部から自由に設定することが可能な放電灯点灯装置を実現することができる。
 放電灯90の駆動条件(駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形)を決定するための代表的なパラメータとしては、初期の放電灯電圧、直近の放電灯電圧、放電灯の点灯中におけるフリッカの発生の有無に加え、放電灯の点灯時間、放電灯の点灯回数、放電灯を最後に消灯してからの経過時間等がある。このうち、放電灯の点灯時間、放電灯の点灯回数、放電灯を最後に消灯してからの経過時間等の放電灯の点灯履歴に関する情報は、例えばプロジェクター等の放電灯を使用する装置側の記録として残っているのが通常であり、放電灯点灯装置側には残っていなかったために従来は利用することが困難であったパラメータである。
 本実施の形態に係る放電灯点灯装置10においては、駆動制御信号Sに基づき放電灯点灯装置10の外部から駆動電流Iの波形を制御することが可能になるため、例えば駆動制御信号Sをプロジェクター等の主制御部から供給することにより、従来は利用することが困難であったパラメータを利用して、より適切な駆動条件(駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形)で放電灯90を駆動することができる放電灯点灯装置を実現することができる。
 例えば、動作検出部60により、放電灯90の駆動電圧の時間的な変化(上昇や下降)が検出された場合やフリッカが検出された場合に、プロジェクター等の主制御部は駆動電圧情報に基づいて、さらに放電灯90の点灯時間、放電灯90の点灯回数、放電灯90を最後に消灯してからの経過時間等の放電灯の点灯履歴に関する情報も考慮して、より適切な駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形を設定するための駆動制御信号Sを放電灯点灯装置10に供給して、放電灯90を駆動することが可能になる。これにより、フリッカの発生や輝度の変化を抑制することが可能になる。
 2.プロジェクター
 図5は、本実施の形態に係るプロジェクターの構成の一例を示す図である。プロジェクター500は、画像信号変換部510、直流電源装置520、放電灯点灯装置530、放電灯540、ミラー群550、液晶パネル560R、560G、560B、画像処理装置570を含む。
 画像信号変換部510は、外部から入力された画像信号502(輝度-色差信号やアナログRGB信号など)を所定のワード長のデジタルRGB信号に変換して画像信号512R、512G、512Bを生成し、画像処理装置570に供給する。
 画像処理装置570は、3つの画像信号512R、512G、512Bに対してそれぞれ画像処理を行い、液晶パネル560R、560G、560Bをそれぞれ駆動するための駆動信号572R、572G、572Bを出力する。
 直流電源装置520は、外部の交流電源600から供給される交流電圧を一定の直流電圧に変換し、トランス(図示しないが、直流電源装置520に含まれる)の2次側にある画像信号変換部510、画像処理装置570及びトランスの1次側にある放電灯点灯装置530に直流電圧を供給する。
 放電灯点灯装置530は、起動時に放電灯540の電極間に高電圧を発生して絶縁破壊させて放電路を形成し、以後放電灯540が放電を維持するための駆動電流を供給する。本実施の形態においては、図1を用いて説明した放電灯点灯装置10と同じ構成の放電灯点灯装置を使用している。
 放電灯540が発する光束は、ミラー群550に含まれる2つのダイクロイックミラーを通してそれぞれR、G、Bの色光に分離され、その他のミラーで反射されて、それぞれ液晶パネル560R、560G、560Bに透過される。
 液晶パネル560R、560G、560Bには、それぞれ駆動信号572R、572G、572Bによる画像が表示されており、当該画像によって各液晶パネルに入射する色光の輝度が変調され、再びダイクロイックプリズムで合成されてスクリーン700に投射される。
 CPU580は、プロジェクターの点灯開始から消灯に至るまでの動作を制御する。プロジェクターの電源が投入され直流電源装置520の出力電圧が所定の値になると、点灯信号582を発生して放電灯点灯装置530に供給する。また、CPU580は、放電灯の点灯時間、放電灯の点灯回数、放電灯を最後に消灯してからの経過時間等の放電灯の点灯履歴に関する情報を取得する。さらに、CPU580は、放電灯540を駆動する駆動電流の電流値、周波数及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する駆動制御信号584を放電灯点灯装置530に供給する。また、CPU580は、放電灯点灯装置530から放電灯540の駆動電圧情報532を受け取ってもよい。
 時計590は、例えば、プロジェクター500の電源を切ってもバックアップ電池で動作して、ネットワークや電波を介して常に現在の時刻情報592を出力することができる。
 このように構成したプロジェクター500は、放電灯540の駆動条件を放電灯点灯装置530の外部(本実施の形態においてはCPU580)から自由に設定することが可能となるので、従来はランプの仕様に応じて専用の設計をしていた放電灯点灯装置530の共用化を図ることができ、最終製品であるプロジェクターのコストダウンを実現することができる。
 また、放電灯の点灯時間、放電灯の点灯回数、放電灯を最後に消灯してからの経過時間等の放電灯の点灯履歴に関する情報のように、放電灯点灯装置側には履歴が残っていなかったために従来は利用することが困難であったパラメータを利用して、より適切な駆動条件(駆動電流Iの電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形)で放電灯540を駆動することができるプロジェクターを実現することができる。
 例えば、CPU580が、放電灯540の駆動電圧の時間的な変化(上昇や下降)、フリッカの発生を駆動電圧情報532により検出した場合に、CPU580は駆動電圧情報532に基づいて、さらに放電灯540の点灯時間、放電灯540の点灯回数、放電灯540を最後に消灯してからの経過時間等の放電灯の点灯履歴に関する情報も考慮して、より適切な駆動電流の電流値、周波数及び波形を設定するための駆動制御信号584を放電灯点灯装置530に供給して、放電灯540を駆動することが可能になる。これにより、フリッカの発生や輝度の変化を抑制することが可能になる。
 なお、本発明は本実施形態に限定されず、本発明の要旨の範囲内で種々の変形実施が可能である。

Claims (18)

  1.  放電灯を駆動するための駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作を行う制御部を含む放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを前記第1制御動作とは異なる態様で制御可能な駆動制御信号を受け付ける信号受付部を含み、
     前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けた場合には、前記駆動制御信号に基づいて前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第2制御動作を行うことを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  2.  請求項1に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに関連する駆動情報を記憶する記憶部を含み、
     前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けなかった場合には、前記記憶部に記憶された前記駆動情報に基づいて前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作を行うことを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  3.  請求項1及び2のいずれかに記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     放電灯駆動用電力を生成する電力制御回路と、
     前記電力制御回路が出力する直流電流を所与のタイミングで極性反転することで前記放電灯を駆動するための前記駆動電流を生成出力する交流変換回路とを含み、
     前記制御部は、前記直流電流の電流値を制御するための電流制御信号を前記電力制御回路に対して出力するとともに、前記駆動電流の極性反転タイミングを制御するための制御信号を前記交流変換回路に対して出力することにより、前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  4.  請求項3に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記電力制御回路は、前記直流電流を出力するスイッチング制御電力回路を含み、
     前記制御部は、前記電流制御信号としてパルス幅変調信号を前記スイッチング制御電力回路に対して出力することにより、前記直流電流の電流値を制御することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  5.  請求項4に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記スイッチング制御電力回路は、降圧チョッパー回路であることを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  6.  請求項3に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記交流変換回路は、前記駆動電流を生成出力するインバーターブリッジ回路を含むことを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  7.  請求項1及び2のいずれかに記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けたか否かを判定する判定部を含み、
     前記制御部は、前記判定部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けたものと判定した場合には、前記第2制御動作を行い、前記判定部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けなかったものと判定した場合には、前記第2制御動作を行うことを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  8.  請求項7に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記判定部は、前記駆動制御信号の振幅が閾値を超えた場合には前記駆動制御信号を受け付けたものと判定し、前記駆動制御信号の振幅が閾値を超えなかった場合には前記駆動制御信号を受け付けなかったものと判定することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  9.  請求項3に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     アナログ信号をデジタル情報に変換する変換部を含み、
     前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つに対応するアナログ信号として受け付け、
     前記変換部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記アナログ信号をデジタル情報に変換し、
     前記制御部は、前記変換部で変換された前記デジタル情報に基づいて前記第2制御動作を行うことを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  10.  請求項9に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の極性反転タイミングに対応する極性反転タイミングを有するアナログ信号として受け付け、
     前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の極性反転タイミングに関連付けたタイミングで前記駆動電流が極性反転するように前記交流変換回路を制御することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  11.  請求項9に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の周波数に対応する周波数を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、
     前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の周波数に関連付けた周波数で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記交流変換回路を制御することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  12.  請求項9に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流のデューティー比に対応するデューティー比を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、
     前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号のデューティー比に関連付けたデューティー比で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記交流変換回路を制御することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  13.  請求項9に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の電流値に対応する振幅を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、
     前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の振幅に関連付けた電流値で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記電力制御回路を制御することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  14.  請求項9に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記信号受付部は、前記駆動制御信号を前記駆動電流の波形に対応する波形を有するアナログ信号として受け付け、
     前記制御部は、前記信号受付部が受け付けた前記駆動制御信号の波形に関連付けた波形で前記駆動電流を供給するように前記電力制御回路を制御することを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  15.  請求項1及び2のいずれかに記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記駆動制御信号は、プロジェクターの制御部から供給されることを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  16.  請求項15に記載の放電灯点灯装置において、
     前記放電灯の駆動電圧を検出し、駆動電圧情報を出力する動作検出部を含み、
     前記駆動制御信号は、駆動電圧情報に基づいてプロジェクターの制御部から供給されることを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置。
  17.  請求項1及び2のいずれかに記載の放電灯点灯装置を含むことを特徴とするプロジェクター。
  18.  放電灯を駆動するための駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御可能な駆動制御信号を受け付ける信号受付部を含み、
     前記駆動電流を出力する放電灯点灯装置の制御方法であって、
     前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第1制御動作を行い、
     前記信号受付部が、前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御可能な駆動制御信号を受け付け、
     前記信号受付部が前記駆動制御信号を受け付けた場合には、前記駆動制御信号に基づいて前記駆動電流の電流値、周波数、デューティー比及び波形の少なくとも1つを制御する第2制御動作を行うことを特徴とする放電灯点灯装置の制御方法。
