Definitions
- the present invention relates to an anchoring device for safety barriers or railings of roads of application in terrains or substrates of rigid type (concrete, asphalt, rock, ...) that allows the fixing of the vertical support-clamping elements of the road safety barriers, for use in road safety, in a rigid terrain with the ability to behave in a fused manner, that is, releasing the union between the vertical support element of the barrier and the terrain, from a certain level of impact energy.
- Vehicle containment systems meaning any device installed on a road whose purpose is to provide retention and redirection to a vehicle that, out of control, leaves the roadway, reducing the severity of accidents caused , in such a way that the damages and injuries are limited both for its occupants and for the rest of the users of the road and other persons or objects located in the vicinity.
- Vehicle containment systems are safety barriers, pretils, impact attenuators, terminals and brake beds.
- metal safety barriers used in medium and medium margins of roads, and metal screens, analogous to safety barriers, but specifically designed for the edges of passage panels (bridges , viaducts, etc.), coronations of supporting walls, and similar works.
- These elements have the purpose of resisting vehicle impacts preventing them from passing through them and, thereby, guaranteeing protection to third parties and, at the same time, proceeding to their controlled redirection and deceleration, in such a way that the vehicle leaves the impact stable and continues to run at a reduced speed next to the system of containment in the original traffic direction and, in this way, guarantee the safety of the occupants of the vehicle and that of other road users.
- Containment systems and, in particular, safety barriers and parapets should, in general, be designed to be able to respond adequately to the impact of different types of vehicles that use the roads: light vehicles such as passenger cars and heavy vehicles such as trucks and coaches. Sometimes, even, safety barriers and pretiles must be designed to behave safely against the impact of vulnerable users, such as motorcyclists and cyclists.
- a containment system successfully fulfills a crash test on a real scale when the requirements and acceptance criteria defined in the regulations regarding the level of containment, the severity of the impact, the stability of the vehicle, the deformation and the angle of departure and, consequently, guarantees adequate safety conditions, mainly for Occupants of the vehicle ⁇ mpactado and for third parties. It is then affirmed that a containment system has the capacity to contain a certain type vehicle.
- the type of foundation usually used is the partial insertion of the vertical support in the ground, being partially embedded in it.
- the most common type of foundation consists in fixing the base plate of the vertical post in the ground by means of a plurality of bolts of anchorage partially embedded in the ground and integral with it, which vertically pass through two holes for this purpose made in the base plate, so that the upper part of the bolts is emerging above the plate and these are fixed to it by joints bolted (bolt assembly, nut / s and washer / s).
- Another type of foundation of barrier or parapet anchor used also for rigid terrain consists in the union between an anchor plate embedded in the ground in solidarity with it and a base plate of the vertical support or post, by means of suitable fixing elements ( mainly screws and, exceptionally, welding).
- the behavior of a vehicle containment system in the face of vehicle impact depends on and includes its anchoring or foundation.
- the response of the anchor to impact conditions the behavior of the system.
- An anchorage that is excessively rigid or that disengages from the ground too late may result in an undesired reaction of the barrier or parapet against the vehicle that negatively affects its stability. If the vehicle overturns, the test result is negative.
- An anchor that is too “soft” or a premature decoupling can lead to excessive cross-sectional deformation of the system, the bagging of the vehicle therein, the I overturn and, where appropriate, the system postage, with a negative result.
- a bad behavior of said anchor can cause the destruction of the board, punching it or cutting it. In case of destruction of the board, its rehabilitation is very difficult and expensive.
- a type of barrier or high containment barrier capable of offering efficient behavior by guaranteeing a reduced transverse deformation and, in turn, a transmission of actions to the ground limited to a maximum load value is one that incorporates an anchor of type " fuse "or type
- the "fuse" type anchor consists of an anchor plate embedded in the ground and integral with it, with a plurality of vertical cylindrical holes with an internal thread in such a way that the vertical support, post or post of the barrier or parapet is fixed to said plate by means of screws that cross the base plate of the post and are screwed into the internal thread of the holes of the anchor plate.
- the screws may have a throat of a smaller diameter at a certain height than that of their main rod in order to ensure that the breakage thereof always occurs in the strangulated section.
- the "ductile" type anchor consists of a deformable vertical anchor bolt, partially embedded in the ground which has a free chamber located just behind said bolt, in the sense of the impact of a vehicle, of such so that before the impact of a heavy vehicle the bolt is deformed inside the chamber and, in extreme case, it becomes broken.
- the maximum transmissible load to the board before the collapse of the bolt is also limited thanks to the expansion chamber.
- a simple rigid anchor is usually used with a plurality of anchor bolts partially embedded in the ground and bolted joints with conventional nut and washer through of the base plate of the post.
- This type of anchor forces the use of deformable posts that collapse for not very high load levels (since once the post collapses, the load stops being transmitted to the anchor) and that requires the provision of numerous railings or horizontal elements of great rigidity, in addition to expensive horizontal or diagonal rear wraps, to limit transverse deformation to reasonable levels.
- barrier or parapet anchor are simple or direct systems, in which the same fixing element is the one that is embedded in the ground and that provides the union with the base plate of the support post.
- the components of the described anchors that is, the bolts, nuts, washers, spacers, as well as the base plate and the posts are generally metallic (for example, steel or aluminum), but they could also be manufactured to from other non-metallic materials.
- the present invention provides a mechanism for direct or simple anchoring on rigid terrains (concrete, asphalt, rock, ...) of safety and pretable barriers made up of vertical supports or posts at regular intervals that support one or several fences or railings continuous horizontals, said anchor presenting a "fuse" character, that is to say, capable of releasing the union between the base of the barrier post or parapet and the ground during the impact of a heavy vehicle, starting from a certain level of load and being able to execute said Anchoring on an already constructed land, without the need to demolish it to embed the anchoring elements and have to rebuild it later.
- the anchoring mechanism object of the present invention consists of one or several vertical anchor bolts (3) partially embedded in the rigid ground (7) and rigidly attached to it by preferably mechanical or chemical means, each of which has a separate emergent that crosses vertically the base plate (2) of the vertical support (1) of the safety barrier or parapet, passing through the corresponding hole (6) of the base plate (2) and is fixed to it by means of one or several lock nuts (4) and one or several fuse washers (5), the latter located below the lock nuts and above the plate, as indicated in FIGURE 1 and FIGURE 3.
- the fuse washer (5) consists of a section piece preferably in the form of "U”, as shown in FIGURE 2, but which can also have other geometries such as the flat section, in the form of "C”, in the form of "omega”, symmetrical or asymmetric, with a spherical, conical or pyramidal trunk ...
- FIGURE 4 being located below the lock nut (4) and presenting a hole (9) for the purpose of be pierced by the bolt (3), called bolt passage hole, such hole (9) being designed in a manner that is capable of deforming by the pressure of the lock nut (4) when the post (1) is subjected ) at a vertical tractor effort, allowing the closing nut (4) to deform first, then tear and finally pass through the fuse washer (5) and then the corresponding hole (6) of the base plate (2), releasing it way the union of the base plate (2) with the anchor bolt (3) and, consequently, of this c on the ground (7).
- the size of said hole (6) must be greater than that of the nut (4).
- the fuse washer (5) has a "U”, a “C”, an "omega” shape, a spherical cap, a conical or a pyramidal trunk with a hole (9) for the bolt (3) located on the upper face, the free space (15) located below said hole (9) and above the base plate (2), allows the deformation of the hole (9) by the lock nut (4) It is carried out without interference from it by contact with the plate.
- the fuse washer (5 ) preferably in the form of" U “,” C “,” omega “, flat, spherical cap, conical trunk or pyramidal trunk, arranged in the upside down anchor assembly, that is, with the face containing the bolt passage hole (9) (3) located in the lower part of the washer (5 "), as shown in FIGURE 7
- the anchoring mechanism must incorporate a spacer element (12) located between the lower face of the washer (5 ") and the base plate (2) of the post (1), so that a space is created free below the hole (9) of passage of the bolt which facilitates the deformation, tearing and passage of the closing nut (4) through the hole (9).
- FIGURE 8 The operating mechanism of the fuse anchor with bolt (3), nuts (4) (1 1) and fuse washer (5) is described in FIGURE 8.
- the post (1) with base plate (2) of the barrier or pretil receives an impact of vehicle and transmits a vertical tensile load to the fuse anchor assembly above a given threshold level or value
- the passage hole of the fuse washer (5) begins to be deformed by the pressure of the lock nut (4), at be requested the post (1) upwards with a certain force and remain the bolt (3) and the lock nut (4) integral with the ground (7).
- a fuse anchor with controlled behavior is achieved that guarantees the release of the anchor for a given load level and the conservation of the rigid ground without damage during the impact of a heavy vehicle and which, in addition, can be executed directly and simple by means of the simple partial insertion of the anchor bolt itself (3) in the ground (7), without the need to demolish the surface part of the ground.
- the anchor bolt (3) is preferably embedded in a cylindrical drill previously practiced in the surface part of the ground for this purpose and is fixed thereto by chemical or mechanical means.
- two or more anchor bolts (3) with fuse washer mechanism (5) can be arranged in the same base plate (2) in the same base plate (2) in the same base plate (2) two or more anchor bolts (3) with fuse washer mechanism (5) can be arranged.
- a constructive variant of the fusible mechanism with bolt (3) and fuse washer (5) described above, can be achieved by arranging the same washer (5 1 ) for two or more anchor bolts (3), as shown in FIGURE 6.
- This type of direct fuse anchor can also be made with two or more bolt fuse washers, arranged successively one above the other, around the same anchor bolt (3) and below the same lock nut (4), as illustrated in FIGURE 9 and FIGURE 10.
- the arrangement of two or more fuse washers (5) and (13) in the same anchor bolt (3) allows to increase the threshold level of fusibility load without having to do so at the cost of an increase in the thickness of a single fuse washer (5).
- the use of a single fuse washer (5) of great thickness impairs the fine control of the deformation and tearing of the passage hole (9) with the lock nut (4).
- the additional fuse washer (13) has a through hole (14) whose geometry can coincide or not coincide with that of the through hole (9) of the other fuse washer (5).
- Two or more loose fusible washers (5), (13) successively positioned one above the other, can also be rigidly joined together, by suitable fixing means, to form a single composite body or part.
- a complex fuse washer is obtained from two simple fuse washers (5) and (13), which successively offers two through holes (9) and (14) to the lock nut (4).
- the spacers (12) described in the present invention are preferably made of metallic materials (for example, steel and its alloys, aluminum and its alloys , ).
- one, two or more bolt assemblies (3), nuts (4) (1) are normally available 1) and fuse washers (5), (5 ') or (5 ") with spacer (12) which, in addition, may be accompanied (on the same plate) by other" non-fuse "direct anchor bolts or rigid direct anchors
- the fusible anchor bolts (3) are arranged in the front part (3 ') of the base plate (2) of the post (1) according to the direction of traffic flow (which is the side where it would receive the impact of a vehicle) and the direct "non-fuse" or rigid anchor bolts on the back (3 ") of said base plate, as shown in FIGURE 12.
- FIGURE 1 1 shows a fusible anchoring device where both the anchor bolts (3 1 ) located in the front part of the base plate (2) of the post (1) of the safety barrier or parapet, as the bolts of anchor (3 ") located at the rear, incorporate the mechanism of the fuse washer (5) with lock nut (4).
- FIGURE 12 shows a fusible anchoring device where the anchor bolts (3 1 ) located in Ia front part of the base plate (2) of the post (1) of the safety barrier or parapet, incorporates the mechanism of the fuse washer (5) with lock nut (4) and the anchor bolts (3 ") located in the back of the base plate (2) are rigid "non-fuse" anchors.
